|I am running for re-election to the Board of Education (BOE), with 20+ years as an education advocate, with experience ranging from preschool to post-undergraduate university. I raised three children in Howard County that graduated from Wilde Lake, Harpers Choice, and Swansfield. During my two years on the BOE, I have collaborated extensively with all Board members to: -Ensure the passage of the first-ever HCPSS equity policy to address achievement and opportunity gaps, -Focused on diversification of the educational workforce, -Passed budgets that significantly increased special education staffing and increased diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, -Reduced school overcrowding through balanced enrollment to ensure continued capital construction funds for new schools

Current: -Only Board member with experience on HCPSS policy review. -Chair of the BOE Policy Committee -Director to Maryland Association of Boards of Education Legal Services Administration -Blessings in a Backpack Coordinator, food program for food-insecure youth -University Administration
Prior Experience: -Elected Chair of the Community Advisory Council (liaison between Board of Education and the community), Vice Chair -PTAs-President, Reading Room Coordinator, Science Fair Coordinator, Grant Writer, Cultural Arts Coordinator -Literacy project(s) development and management -Classroom volunteer
- Public education has never faced a bigger challenge than it has during the coronavirus pandemic. With five of the seven Board of Education positions up for election, we need candidates with my extensive experience to determine how our students and staff can safely return to the classroom. Our decisions must be grounded in science and data while applied to the vast background of knowledge about school system operations, curriculum, and teaching.
- The achievement and opportunity gaps are real and must be addressed. This must be done through aligning our budget to our values, providing high-quality instruction for all students, diversification of the curriculum and staff, anti-bias and restorative justice efforts, as well as acknowledging and addressing systemic and institutional racism present in our schools.
- As the result of COVD-19, we are going to face incredible budget challenges. I have over ten years of experience analyzing and testifying on the HCPSS budget. My experience analyzing, researching, and ultimately passing the billion-dollar HCPSS budgets gives me the background and experience to get the job done on day one even when difficult decisions must be made.
-Fully funded public schools
-Universal preK access for all students through adequate state funding
-Reducing the achievement and opportunity gaps in education
-Dismantling systemic and institutional racism
-Using public money for public schools instead of charter schools and school-choice
-Increased funding for mental health supports for our children
-Starting school later in the day for the health and well-being of our students
-Providing the educators with the tools necessary to ensure that all children can read fluently
-Advocating for sensible gun reform to make our schools safer for our children
