Charlene Elder
Charlene Elder is a judge of the Michigan 3rd Circuit Court. She assumed office in 2006. Her current term ends on January 1, 2027.
Elder ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 3rd Circuit Court. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Elder was appointed to the court by former Governor Jennifer Granholm in December 2005 and assumed office in January 2006.[1] Elder was then elected to the court in 2006 and re-elected in 2008, for a full six-year term ending on January 1, 2015.[2] On November 4, 2014, Elder was re-elected unopposed for another six-year term.[3]
Elder is the first Arab-American female judge on the 3rd Circuit Court. She is also the first female, Arab-American, and Muslim judge in the country.[4][5]
Biography
Education
Elder received her B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1991 and her J.D. degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1995.[1]
Career
Early in her career, Elder worked as a sole practitioner, specializing in consumer protection, commercial transactions, and general litigation. She was appointed a magistrate of the 19th Judicial District Court in 2003. She was then appointed to the 3rd Circuit Court in 2005.[1]
