The book Good to great interviewed 1,500 companies and came up with 11 great companies and 11 good companies. Carl has been in management with three: Pitney Bowes, Philip Morris, USA and Wells Fargo & Company Three quick reads are

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
I plan to listen -- learn -- then act. I understand the importance of compromise[3]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
1) I have worked with lobbyist in State and National venues.
2) I have worked with in business for over 30 years

Assignations of John F Kennedy in 1963, I was ten. He said "One person can make a difference and everyone should try."[3]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I moved to the farm from KCMO when I was ten. Ten miles SW of Selby, SD. This was a non paid position I had until attending college at Northern State University in Aberdeen.[3]
What happened on your most awkward date?
I don't have anything for this.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Tie for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Christmas is the best of my three, The celebration of Christ's birth is awesome.[3]
What is your favorite book? Why?
I read the Left Behind series and it was very interesting.[3]
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
1) Mighty Mouse
2) Thor[3]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
1) My wife of nearly 44 years.
2) My office, (command central) Computer, Monitor, speakers, printer, power and more.[3]
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
I can only Imagine Mercy Me[3]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
Some times I forget to include others.[3]
(For non-Nebraska candidates) What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?
We have legislative teams that work together.[3]
(For Nebraska candidates) What are the benefits and drawbacks of a unicameral state legislature, in your opinion?
The difference is unilateral is one legislative body versus two in bicameral areas.[3]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
Yes is a good answer. However, how do you gain experience (coffee, golf, etc.) Many non political candidates provide a thought process that sometimes represents the average constituent.[3]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Keeping the budget balances while providing services for the people in our area. I believe we need to always ask 'How do we pay for it[3]
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
It is best when they work together. Both the executive and the legislature need to work for the betterment of the area, the state and yes even the country[3]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Absolutely, as a team many things can happen, I will make changes but will provide a better service if I understand my fellow legislative[3]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
I actually worked on Aberdeen's city redistricting. Both parties should be on the redistricting team[3]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
My first choice is the Appropriations Committee[3]
If you are a current legislator, what appealed to you about your current committees?
NA[3]
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
Yes, but I believe that I have a learning curve up coming. I will serve in a way that makes sense[3]
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Al Novstrup Senator from Aberdeen is one of my favorite all time[3]
Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?
no desire, I will help our parties candidates[3]
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
I need to be elected before I can adequately address this answer[3]
