Cord Byrd (Republican Party) is the Florida Secretary of State. He assumed office on April 26, 2023. His current term ends on January 5, 2027.
Byrd (Republican Party) ran for election to the Florida House of Representatives to represent District 11. He did not appear on the ballot for the Republican primary on August 23, 2022.
Byrd also ran for election to the Florida State Senate to represent District 4. He did not appear on the ballot for the Republican primary on August 23, 2022.
Byrd was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to replace Laurel Lee (R), who resigned in May 2022. Byrd was appointed on January 3, 2023.[1]
Biography
Cord Byrd was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and lives in Neptune Beach, Florida. Byrd served in the U.S. Air Force. He earned a B.A. in political science and government from the University of North Florida in 1993 and a J.D. from St. Thomas University in 1997. Byrd's career experience includes working as an attorney.[2][3][4]

Noteworthy events
On March 9, 2020, Byrd announced that he would self-quarantine after having recently attended the Conservative Political Action Conference, where an attendee tested positive for the coronavirus. Byrd returned to work the next day after being cleared by the Florida Department of Health.[10]
