The Language of Power
In the fourth and as yet final book of the Steerswoman series, Rowan and Bel return to Donner, where they last barely escaped an attack of dragons. Rowan finally has a lead about how one of the Guidestars came down: an oblique reference in an old log to a meeting between a steerswoman and the wizard Kieran, both long dead. But as soon as she starts looking into it, questioning older townspeople who may remember details from decades back, it becomes clear that she’s being followed. With the aid of a friend, Rowan will learn more about magic and the wizards than she thought possible, including that magic—like the rest of the world—operates on a set of parameters that can be learned. But whether she can use that knowledge to deter the wizards and prevent the war that is coming remains to be seen. Kirstein has promised two more books, and I intend to clear my calendar the moment the next one arrives.
