Chapter Text
When Sirius and Remus make it home later that night after talking with Lucius, they find Hadrian still in the dueling room. Their hearts hurt at the sight of their son, sitting with his back against the wall, knees bent with his elbows resting on his knees and his head hanging low. The room itself is a mess, all of the dueling dummies either torn apart or burnt beyond recognition, the walls and floors with huge deep burn marks in them and a giant hole in one of the walls.
They approach him slowly with caution, but make an abrupt stop halfway through the room when Hadrian’s head snaps up with a deep growl, his eyes glowing with slit pupils, large fangs filling some of his mouth and long and sharp claws sprouting from his fingers. After a few seconds the growl stops and his head drops back down again before saying in a quiet voice.
“Sorry” The couple comes and sits on either side of him in silence for a while before the werewolf speaks up in a reassuring voice
“He’ll come around Hadrian, he just needs a little time to process.”
“Yeah Pup, once he thinks it through he’ll be right back by your side.” Hadrian sighs at that, lifting his head and leaning it back against the wall.
“I really hope so, I don’t think I can go on without him.”
1 week later
It’s been a week, a full seven days since Hadrian and Draco have talked, and Hadrian has been miserable. It has been so long since they have gone more than a day without at least a note between them. He doesn’t like this. He has barely left his room and when he does he only goes to the forest to sit by his oak tree and to the dueling room to unleash his magic. His fathers are getting more worried as the days go by, usually Hadrian is almost always up and about doing something whether it’s reading a book, practising a spell, making a potion, following Draco around, or buying Draco things. He never just sits around staring off into space like Nippey(the only person Hadrian will allow into his room at the moment, they have to spend time with him when he is in the duelling room) says he does constantly these days.
It was on Wednesday at 10:13am when Draco and Narcissa flooed into the Black Manor, Sirius as lord of the house knew from the wards and immediately alerted his husband and they made their way to the floo room, and Hadrian who could smell and feel the second Draco stepped inside popped into the room not even a second later.
The three of them were still standing there in silence when Sirius and Remus walked into the room. Narcissa clears her throat
“Remus, Sirius how about we go to the sitting room for some tea and leave the boys to have a chat?” They both nod and with one last glance the three of them leave the room.
Draco observes Hadrian for a second, he hasn’t taken his eyes off the blonde since he came into the room, his hair is extremely disheveled, he is wearing a pair of sleep pants and a wrinkled black shirt, which is so very unusual for him, he is usually so very put together. Draco gives him a small smile
“Let’s sit and talk.” He gestures to the two chairs in the room and Hadrian nods and immediately takes a set and Draco takes the other.
“I may have overreacted a tad bit when you gave me the news, but with many talks with Mama and much thinking. I understand why you have to do it, I hate that stupid old goat all the more now, but I understand. Plus like you said we have ways to be in constant contact so I think we will be okay. Just promise me you won’t find another best friend, that I’m your number one always.” The blonde ends with a pleading conviction and Hadrian smiles for the first time since he last saw Draco
“I kind of expected a reaction of that magnitude. I mean not for you to stop talking to me, that I absolutely hated, but for you to go off. Thank you so much angel for understanding, our separation will be torture for me, only to be soothed by me being able to hear your voice everyday. And know and believe this cause I mean it with everything I am,” Hadrian kneels down in front of him “No one can ever take your place, you will always and I do mean always be number 1, I promise.” He holds his pinkie to him and Draco wraps his around it with a beautifully brilliant smile on his face. After they let go Draco throws himself off the chair and into Hadrian’s arms wrapping his arms around his neck and hugging him like his life depends on it, Hadrian wrapping his arms around his waist and hugging just as desperately.
6 weeks later
Tomorrow is Hadrian’s birthday and Draco is going a little crazy, he has yet to find the perfect gift for him and he simply cannot show up empty handed especially after Hades gifted him this beautiful thoughtful charm bracelet. He’s walking around Knockturn Alley with his Mama having already finished his perusal of the other alleys when he spots a pet shop. They go in and begin to look around, it isn’t until they get all the way to the back of the store that Draco sees her. A beautiful white snake with purple eyes, she’s large, the placard next to her tank says 5 feet she’s a magical king cobra. As soon as he locks eyes with her he knows that she is meant for Hadrian. Immediately alerting the sales clerk that he wants her only getting mildly annoyed when she asks him if he is sure. Draco and his mom return home with the snake and Lucius almost faints at the sight of it, happy that his son doesn’t intend to keep the thing as his own pet.
Hadrian’s birthday is a smashing success, he only spends it with his father’s and the Malfoy’s considering he really doesn’t like other people very much, he loves all the gifts from the adults mainly getting clothes, jewelry(more shiny, pretty things for his growing collection), and quidditch supplies. He turns to Draco lastly who is bouncing in his seat
“What do you have for me mon ange ?” With that Draco beams brightly and calls for Dobby who brings the tank in the room.
“Isn’t she just beautiful Hades? I just knew she was perfect for you the moment I saw her. She’s a magical king cobra and she’s 5 feet long, the clerk at the shop says they aren’t sure how old she is.” Hadrian, who only takes his eyes off Draco when he is done speaking, looks at the snake who had raised her head up and is looking right at him. The moment they lock eyes a bond snaps into place.
