Chapter Text
“So what is this thing called again?” Jason Maxwell asked Barry Allen.
“It’s a Tachyon Enhancer.” The Flash explained.
“Uh huh. And why are we at some random landing strip?”
“Dude, this is where it all began.” Cisco Ramon said.
“Huh?”
“This is where we did our first tests with my speed.”
“Huh. And why am I here?”
“You wanted to try this thing on. And I’m curious how fast you are with it on.” Barry reminded him.
“Ok. So are there any side effects from using this thing?”
“When I first used it, I accidentally traveled to Supergirl’s universe.”
“Before the Crisis, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Look, you’ve told me these stories of before the Crisis, I just don’t know if I believe them all. Seriously, Supergirl is from a different universe? Come on, man.”
“Just put it on.” Barry sighed.
“Ok, whatever.” He put the tachyon enhancer on his chest, around his emblem, and turned it on. He gasped as he felt the energy course through him. “Holy shit.”
Jason put his helmet on and pulled the hood over it.
“Ok, let’s see how fast you can go. Everyone else is waiting back in STAR Labs for you.”
“Cool. Everyone in STAR Labs, see you in a flash.”
Barry groaned. “Really?”
“Fuck you! You’re right here next to me, I had to make the joke at least once. It’s not as funny when not around anyways.”
Spirit reached back and made sure his sword and axe were secured to his back and then checked to make sure his dagger was secured to his leg. He got down to a starting position, took a breath, and took off. He ran faster than he ever ran before.
“HOLY FUCK!” He screamed as he raced through Central City.
But as he got faster and faster, he broke through the dimensional barrier.
/
Jason came out of the breach on top of a snowy mountain. Once out, he stumbled and tumbled through the snow.
“Ow.” He gasped once he came to a stop. “That hurt. Don’t wait up Barry. I'm gonna get some Zs.”
And Jason passed out.
/
When he woke up, he was no longer in the snow. Also, his helmet, gloves, weapons, and tachyon enhancer were gone.
“Uh, feels like my first hangover, and the second, and the fourth. Don't remember what happened to three.”
“Who are you?” A voice came.
“Hang on, let me wake up first. God I hated waking up for school.”
Jason slowly got up, his speedforce healing kicking in. He looked around and saw he was in a cell. But standing outside the cell was three people. All three in blue and black, but two of them wore masks while the middle guy had no mask or headgear at all.
“Who are you?” The middle man asked.
Jason quickly checked his face seeing there was no helmet.
“No helmet, no point in keeping the secret. Ok, Blue and Scary, my name is Jason Maxwell.”
“Why have you come here?”
“Dude, I don't know where here is. Look, I was doing some tests, went for a run, and now here I am.”
“You are in the home of the Lin Kuei.”
“Lin Kuei, that sounds so familiar.”
Suddenly, a blast of light came from behind them and a man appeared.
“Kuai Liang.” The man said, voice booming through the room.
“Kuai Liang? That also sounds familiar.” Jason said, confused as hell.
“Lord Raiden?” Kuai Liang asked.
“Raiden? What the fuck is going on here?”
“He's not from around here.” This Raiden replied.
“Netherrealm? Outworld?”
“Neither. If I am correct, he's not from this timeline.”
“Oh!” Jason said as part of the answer clicked with him. “I was running tests with the Tachyon Enhancer. I was warned this might happen.”
“Tachyon Enhancer?” Kuai asked.
“Long story. My biggest point should be I am not a threat to you or any of your, uh, what did you call yourselves again? Lin Kuei?” Kuai and Raiden remained quiet. “I'll take that as a definitely maybe.”
“He talks more than Cage.” Kuai said.
“Don't know who this ‘Cage’ is, but I'll take that as a compliment. Look my point is, I'm not a danger to you and your people. Boy scout's promise.”
“That is yet to be seen.” Kuai said before turning away. He spoke to one of his men in a different language and he ended up staying. But as this Raiden approached where he entered, Jason noticed something weird. His blue lightning started to glow red.
“If Thawne taught me anything, going red is a bad sign.” He said to himself.
Raiden thrust his hand up into the sky and disappeared into a bolt of red lightning.
“Dude's more dramatic than me. Shit.” He turned to his guard. “Hey, yo, what's your name?”
“Quiet.”
“Hey, I'm just asking. Might as well get to know you better, seeing that I am going to be staying here a lot longer than I planned.”
The Lin Kuei stayed silent.
“You know, I think you're a Carl. Maybe Jeff. David? Junior? Samatha? Olaf? Wade?”
The guard quickly turned around and hit the bars.
“QUIET!”
“Sorry, I'm trying to form a bond here.”
The guard walked up to him.
“If you don't button that lip of yours, I'll sew it shut myself.”
“Before you do, want to see a magic trick?”
“What is wrong with you?”
“It's a disappearing trick. Now you see me.” In a flash of white light, Jason was gone, but before the guard could react, his head was slammed into the cell bars, knocking him out. “Now you don't.” Jason said, now behind him. “Maybe next time, don't put me in a cell I can phase out of. Speaking of.”
He quickly searched the guard's person and found a set of keys. He quickly put him into the cell and locked it up behind him. He very quickly searched the room until he found his gear. But as he grabbed the Tachyon Enhancer, he noticed something.
“Is this fucker broken? FUCK! Ok, it's ok. I'm smart, I'm an engineer, I designed my own suit and helmet, I can figure out tachyons.”
He sheathed his sword, axe, and dagger before putting his helmet on and pulled his hood up. He began to speed around the complex, and it turned out to be bigger than he first thought.
“Place's a fucking maze! I need my own Marauder's Map just to find the bathroom.”
He sped off again, checking every door and room, until,
“I swear I was just here a second ago. Of course this whole duplex looks exactly the same from north to south. What the fuck!”
Then he suddenly heard a gunshot. Time slowed down as he turned around. He saw a blonde girl wielding dual pistols. He quickly grabbed his axe and spun it around, cutting the bullet to pieces.
“Ma'am, I suggest you not do that. I am quite fast if you can't tell.”
“Kabal.” The blonde growled.
“Gesundheit.”
Another gunshot came from behind him. He turned around and cut this bullet down and saw a black woman wearing arm bracers that reminded him of Deadshot.
“Oh come on! How many of you are there?”
Right on cue, he turned and saw an arrow coming right at him. He dropped the Tachyon Enhancer and caught the arrow.
“Ha! Look Green, I don't have time to deal wi- you're not the Green Arrow.”
Suddenly, a cable wrapped around his arm.
“What the fuck?”
He turned and saw an asian man on the other end of the cable. Suddenly, blades came out of the cable starting the man's side. Jason yelped and quickly phased out of the cable's grasp.
“WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
Jason started to speed around the room, running on the walls and even the ceiling, the girls and archer tried shooting him down while the other guy tried to whip him down. But then and bluish white beam hit Jason square in the chest and ice formed. The speedster fell down to the ground, unable to phase.
“So. Cold.”
“Now that I got your attention.” The guy before, Kuai Liang, spoke. “I suggest you stop running.”
“Deal. No more shooting or fighting. Please.”
Kuai nodded and gestured for the others to lower their weapons. He then waved his hand and the ice broke. Spirit jumped up and started vibrating his whole body, generating electricity and warming himself up.
“Thanks.” He said once he was done.
“Who are you?” The blonde asked.
The speedster took his helmet off. “Name's Jason Maxwell, but you can call me Spirit. Better question is, who are all of you? And how come Kuai is Frosty the Snowman?”
“Kung Jin.” The archer answered.
“Takeda Takahashi.” The asian cable guy answered.
“Jacqui Briggs.” She-Deadshot answered.
“Cassie Cage.” The blonde answered.
“Cage? Is she the talker you mentioned, Frosty?”
“Do not call me that.”
“Ok, fine. Whatever.”
“You must be talking about my dad.”
“Your dad?”
“Johnny Cage.”
Then suddenly, it hit him.
“JOHNNY CAGE! Wait, you wouldn't be known as Sub-zero too, would you?”
“I am.” Kuai replied, seeming confused.
“OH FUCK! I'M IN MORTAL KOMBAT!”
Then in a flash of now blue lightning, Raiden was back.”
“Not exactly. Mortal Kombat has come and passed. Now we fight against Outworld.”
“Against Shao Kahn?”
“No. Empress Kitana and Emperor Liu Kang.”
“Wait what? He’s dead? Hold on? Is Shinock still a problem?”
“No. I kicked his ass.” Cassie said with a laugh.
“Shit. Then we should be fighting, uh, why can't I remember?”
“Perhaps the memories will come in time.” Raiden replied.
“And me getting home?”
“We can help you work on your Tachyon Enhancer, but you must be patient.”
“Dude, I'm a speedster, we’re either very patient or not patient at all.”
“Perhaps you can join these four in their return to the Special Forces. I believe Cassie should be getting a promotion here soon.” Raiden suggested.
“Ok, fuck it! I'll go with them. Maybe get some training in on the side. I mean I was sort of trained by the League of Assassins.”
“Sort of?”
“Well, my girlfriend is a former member, you know, before they were disbanded, and she trained me in some fighting styles.”
“Cage, your ship has arrived.” Kuai said.
“Thanks sir. Team! Let's move out!”
“Wahoo! Let's go Kombat Kids!” Jason shouted.
“We are not, actually, you know, I like the sound of that.” Cassie started before changing her mind on it.
“Fuck yeah. The only thing we're missing now is Sub-zero Jr.”
Suddenly, Cassie blushed as the other three groaned.
“Uh, did I say something wrong?”
“Frost.” Jacqui replied, spitting the name out with venom in her voice.
“Uh, Killer?” He said, thinking she was referring to Killer Frost.
Takeda walked over and laced his fingers in between Jacqui's.
“Frost was one of us. Until she betrayed us when Kuai and Hanzo formed an alliance.”
Jason looked over at Cassie, he's always been good at reading people, then he became a speedster and it became even easier. Everyone has micro expressions, he can just see things go slower than everyone else. He used this skill to find out his best friend was being abused by her then-boyfriend. He was able to figure out that when his niece went to hospital and was diagnosed with chlamydia, that it wasn't consensual. Of course both those men are now dead because of him. He may be a speedster, but he is most certainly not The Flash. But here, right here, Cassie's expression told him that she was hurt the most by Frost's betrayal. Where the other three were betrayed by a friend, Cassie was broken heartened by the betrayal of a loved one. Whoever this Frost is, she was romantically involved with Cassie.
