Chapter Text

Soaring over the city, her hands carefully holding the takeout bag close to her midsection, Power Girl made her way to the Metropolis Central Park. It wasn’t that the paper bag was particularly big or heavy; Karen just didn’t want the flimsy material to tear and for their lunch to go tumbling to the ground, maybe even splattering some unsuspecting civilian. That would surely put a damper on the guy or gal’s day.

Descending as she neared the agreed-upon spot, she touched down in front of a large tree in one of the more secluded areas of the expansive green space. Wonder Woman and Krypto, her two lunch buddies, were already there. Relaxing under the shade of the verdant foliage, the latter was nuzzling and lapping at the former's cheek and neck. It was a completely normal and natural act for someone with a pet, if not for the fact that not even two hours back, said ‘pet’ had been knot deep inside the woman he now showered with affectionate licks.

"Down, Krypto," Diana chuckled, playfully pushing the large, white dog away. Though at the same time, she leaned her head back to give better access to Krypto’s tongue. "Mmm, feels nice," she murmured at the arousing sensations rising from the thick, rough tongue on her flawless skin. Her hand, as if holding him close, scratched behind the dog’s ear.

"Hey guys!" Karen cheerfully called out, unknowingly interrupting the intimate moment. “Lunch is here.”

Her eyes snapping open, Diana reacted as if she had been caught with her hands in the cookie jar. She pulled away and sat up straight, a blush rising to her cheeks. As for Krypto, with his nose twitching, tail wagging, and tongue lolling out, it looked like it was the food that he was anticipating and not the female's warmth.

Walking up to the duo already there, Power Girl handed the takeout bag to the seated Amazon before settling down herself next to them. Now sitting in a cross-legged position, she popped open the bag to take out the trio’s lunch order. First up was Diana. She had selected the vegetarian 'power' bowl and a bottle of water. Next was Karen's double-bacon third-pound burger, large fries, and a soda. Keeping it aside on the grass, the blonde reached in for the final and biggest container of all, setting it down in front of the dog. Krypto's eyes lit up as the box containing the twelve-ounce steak was flipped open, the aroma of freshly cooked, delicious meat assaulting his senses. Digging in almost immediately, the dog started to make quick work of the tender meat. For the next twenty or so minutes, he did not give a care to anything going on around him, least of all the spoken words exchange happening between the two females.

"So, tell me, Diana," Karen began, as she lifted her burger up to take a bite. "What's going on with you?" At the questioning look, she elaborated. "I mean, outside of this. How's the love life? Meet anyone new?" Crunch!

Diana's eyes flickered over to Krypto, who was busy devouring his steak. She felt a twinge of guilt at the question. Her on-again, off-again thing with Steve Trevor was known in the League, and it was likely that that was what Karen was referring to. Yet, it wasn’t her ancient relationship with the first man she had ever met that occupied Diana’s thoughts anymore. And it definitely wasn’t the one that she wished to be able to talk about. Unfortunately, her current relationship, the one that surpassed anything that she had ever had with Steve, wasn’t one that she could talk about, not even with her close friends. While she wished she could openly share with Karen the reality of her deep love for Krypto, she knew the truth would be too much for Power Girl to handle. So she played it safe.

"Well, you know how it is," she replied with a shrug. "Between the League, the consulate, and everything else going on, it doesn't leave much room for dating.” Though not quite the complete truth, it was accurate enough. Krypto and she weren't exactly dating; they were way beyond that.

Power Girl nodded, swallowing another mouthful. "Yeah, tell me about it. Shit’s busy. But you can't tell me there hasn't been someone who’s caught your eye?"

Once again, Diana felt a blush creep up her cheeks. Oh, there had been catching, only it was her who had been caught and definitely more than just by his eye. Her mind flashed back to their lovemaking and the way Krypto’s knot would lock them together. She cleared her throat and took a sip of water. "Well, this weekend I have Krypto," her voice was a little too bright as she tried to redirect the conversation. "He’s enough to keep me company." Yet another lie of omission.

At the mention of its name, the dog momentarily looked up his meal, his half-eaten steak hanging from his mouth.

"Oh, yeah. He can be a handful," Power Girl nodded her head. "But, you know, a girl's gotta have a little fun, too." She ruffled the dog’s fur, watching Diana closely. "You can tell me. I won’t judge."

The air between them seemed to grow thicker as if teetering on the brink of an unspoken revelation. The allure of sharing her secret was tempting, but Diana knew the reality would be met with anything but understanding. Just when it looked like she would have to fabricate another half-truth half-lie, Karen resumed talking. "Besides, I wouldn't blame you. I swear, given the number of sleezoids I seem to exclusively attract, I'd consider switching teams if it meant avoiding all the drama. It’s all about the cape, costume, and tits with those losers. It's like everyone forgets that I have a brain too, one just as powerful as Superman’s and Supergirl's. One look at these," she pointed to her chest, "and it's all they see."

Diana chuckled awkwardly, not because of the blonde's candidness, but because of how close her remarks were to the Amazon’s own situation. Even though she knew Karen's remark referred to her potentially dating women, it hit a little too close to home for Diana. After all, hadn't she too switched teams with Krypto?

---

A new universe diverges from the main timeline.

---

“In fact," Power Girl continued, her voice dropping an octave and gaining an unfamiliar, mysterious tone. “Everyone seems to forget that I have the same powers, the same senses, as either of them. And I have more than enough training and experience on how to use them.”

While the words were straightforward enough, there was something about the way Karen said them that had Diana instantly on guard. It was almost as if the blonde was hinting at something. And while it could just be wishful thinking or referring to someone else, for Diana, her mind immediately went to her own situation. Was it possible that Karen knew? That she had figured it out? Her heart hammering in her chest, she swallowed hard, trying to maintain a neutral expression.

Her ears ringing with the sudden quickening of the Wonder Woman's heartbeat, Power Girl watched the fellow superheroine take a sip from her water bottle. Instead of giving her pause, the Amazon's reaction only bolstered Karen's suspicion. "You know,” she started evenly so as not to startle the other woman. “On my Earth, Superman and Batman, they were much older than me."

It wasn't often that Power Girl mentioned the fact that she came from an alternate reality, let alone divulge any details about it. One of the few that had made it out of that universe when it met its end in a multiversal crisis event, Kara Zor-L nee Karen Starr had reestablished herself on this new Earth. And while her heart did ache for her lost home, Karen didn't do anything stupid like going back in time to mess with the fabric of reality. Instead, she had made a life here, made new friends with strangers with familiar faces. Along with establishing her Power Girl persona, she had even started her own technology company, Starrware Inc. So, yes, even though she might look the part, Karen was definitely much more than a flaky, dumb, big-titted blonde.

And while Diana wasn’t one of those who thought of Power Girl this way, she was nevertheless confused as to where Karen was taking the conversation. The blonde heroine’s eyes searched Diana’s, looking for something that she couldn’t quite pinpoint. It was as if Karen was testing the waters, probing for a reaction without revealing what was really on her mind.

"They were mentors to me and other heroes my age. In fact, I even trained with Robin and Huntress on some of the more cerebral skills."

"Huntress?" Diana was really confused now. "Helena Bertinelli?"

"No," Karen shook her head. "Helena—" she stopped mid-word, not wanting to reveal the parentage of her best friend, Helena Wayne. Never mind that said Helena was long gone. "Not Bertinelli. Different Helena."

"Oh."

"Yes. It was... intense," Karen's eyes grew distant. "Batman, as expected, didn't go easy on any of us. Not on his kids and definitely not me, his best friend’s cousin-cum-daughter. He pushed me to my limits and beyond. Taught me to think strategically, to use data and information to extrapolate and anticipate threats. and even to better use my powers and abilities for detective work. He made me into a, as Robin called it, walking-talking chemistry lab." The longing in her voice was palpable.

Diana nodded, empathizing with her friend's nostalgic remembrances and understanding the value of such intense training. Her own upbringing on Themyscira had been rigorous, though admittedly less about stealth and more about combat and diplomacy. "Sounds like he was quite the mentor."

“Yes, he was.” A wry smile forming and disappearing on her lips, Karen looked back at the duo, her gaze flickering between the two; it was clear she was weighing her words carefully.

"So, Diana," Karen took a deep breath, letting it out in a soft sigh. Looking directly at the Amazon, she steeled her resolve, knowing what she was about to say next was really going to rock the boat. Screw that; it was going to downright demolish it. "I know."

"Know?" The ground seemed to shift under Diana. "Know what?" she asked, her voice suddenly tight with anxiety.

Taking the time to set aside her half-eaten burger, Karen tried to come up with the most nonexplosive way to deliver her words. "I know about you and..." The blonde pointed a slim finger at Diana, flicking it then at the dog. "Him."

Diana's eyes widened, her hand tightening around her water bottle. The revelation had indeed thrown a proverbial grenade into the middle of their relaxing picnic. "What... what do you mean?" she managed to squeak out, her mind racing, trying to figure out how Karen could have possibly found out. She had been so careful, so meticulous about keeping her and Krypto’s secret. Yet here it was, laid bare in the open, by Power Girl of all people. Not that Diana doubted Karen’s abilities, but Power Girl wouldn't have been on her bingo card of people who would stumble upon this particular truth.

Karen leaned closer, her expression earnest. "Do you really need me to spell it out?"

Diana felt like she had been punched in the gut. How could this possibly happen? Had Power Girl been spying on them in the Wonderdome? Had she seen them making love? There was no way and no place else that she could have discovered their secret. Who else knew? But before she went even further down that rabbit hole of panic and mistrust, Karen held up a hand. "Don't worry. I haven't told anyone, nor am I going to."

“Why?” Diana blurted out even before she could stop herself. "How... how did you know?" Her second question was much more sensible and, as expected, subdued.

"Super-senses," Karen replied simply, as if those two words should explain everything. "Walking-talking chemistry lab."

Even though it didn't look like it outwardly, internally the blonde was more than a little nervous. She had just accused Wonder Woman, of all people, of bestiality, of being in a relationship with a dog. And instead of knocking her into the next county, Diana had all but confessed.

Diana felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. Super-senses could mean anything: super-hearing, sight, or smell. Had Karen used her x-ray vision to spy on them in the Wonderdome? After all, while her inner sanctum, her bedroom, bathroom, and adjoining work areas were all lead-lined, the rest of the Wonderdome wasn't. Or maybe she used her superhearing? No, for both of them, Karen would need to be close enough to the Amazon's flying base that the Wonderdome's security systems would have detected her. That only left one other option. Karen had smelled Krypto on her, or her on him, or maybe both.

"It's not like that, Karen," she began, her voice a mix of defensiveness and desperation. "It's not just..."

"You don't have to explain," Karen held up both hands in a placating gesture. "It's your life, Diana. Your business."

Diana really wasn't sure of what to do. She could still deny the entire thing, feigning anger at the accusation, or at least dial it back down to something much less intimate. She could even try to pass off her and Krypto's mingling scents as a result of their time in the Wonderdome's training facility. On the other hand, she knew that, one, Karen wouldn’t have said anything if she wasn’t sure. Besides, at a certain level, Diana was relieved that the secret had finally come out, even if it was just with one person. It was still one less person than before.

"But why?" Diana asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why wouldn’t you…?"

"Why?!” Karen started with her usual cheeky grin, “Well, for one, who would even believe me?” She then faltered, the longing returning in her eyes. "Besides, I know better than most others how fleeting life can be. One minute you have a universe full of people you know and love, and the next, you are all alone. Even worse, you are surrounded by people who, though looking and sounding the same, are absolute strangers."

This seesawing of emotions was something Diana had expected whenever she thought about the day her secret would be out. Oh, she did imagine anger, disgust, and loathing. And, maybe, just maybe, even a  bit of pity and even lesser understanding. But in all the maybes and what-ifs that her mind had cooked up, it had never been even remotely close to this. Karen's reaction had been, at least until now... surprisingly personal.

So, deciding to put it all out there, Wonder Woman took a deep, fortifying breath. "You're right," she whispered, looking down at her hands, which were fidgeting in her lap. "Krypto and I... yes." Try as she might, that first step into admitting the truth was like jumping off a cliff. "It's true."

Power Girl studied Diana for a moment, her gaze piercing. "It's—He's a dog!" She stated the simple fact. "You are not." She did not have anything against Krypto. His being a dog wasn’t an issue, and neither was Diana’s being a woman. It wasn’t even that one was from Earth and the other an alien. It was the simple fact that they were two beings from vastly different species. Heck, both on Earth and on Krypton, people had creatures like Krypto as pets.

The statement stung, but Diana knew it was a fair one. "He's more than that, Karen. He's... special."

Karen couldn't stop the burst of laughter that escaped her lips. "Special!" She exclaimed, immediately dialing back at the fire in Diana's eyes. "Sorry, sorry. But don't tell me that you and he," Once again, she pointed at the blissfully ignorant Krypto. "Have a thing going on. I mean, come on."

The determined look on Diana's face made the truth more than clear. "It is more than a thing."

"Fuck me!" Karen cursed audibly, her mind spinning. She had had no idea that her confronting Diana would lead to this. She had suspected that, at most, apart from the outright denial, the most she would discover was that Wonder Woman had gotten a bit handsy with Superman’s dog. Maybe it was just a kink of the Amazon. After all, she was supposed to have a connection or something with animals. Maybe this was just part of that. But this? This was much more than that. This was on a whole new level. "You and him? Don’t tell me you are in love with him." There, she finally said it. "Diana, are you okay?"

The Amazon looked up at her, the seriousness in her eyes unmistakable. "Yes. Absolutely so. I understand that it might not be... it is not conventional, but Krypto and I, we share a connection. It is a love that transcends species."

Karen's eyes narrowed, her mind still trying to process this revelation. "But how? How is it possible?"

With the proverbial dam broken, Diana decided to do away with the half-truths and evasions.

With the proverbial dam broken, Diana decided to do away with the half-truths and evasions. With her hand trembling slightly, she reached out to her lover. Her fingers treading into the canine's plush, white fur, gripping it as if he were her anchor. "As I said, what Krypto and I have is unconventional. Krypto is not just a pet. He's a being with depth, with feelings, with intelligence far more than anyone gives him credit for." Her last comments mirrored Karen's own from a few minutes before.

"Yes, but once again: He. Is. A. Dog." Power Girl enunciated each word as if trying to explain a foreign concept to the Amazon.

Diana nodded solemnly, somewhat muted but not at all apologetic. "I know it's hard to understand, but our bond is real."

Karen studied her friend for a moment, searching for any signs of doubt, or delusion, heck, even any mind control, but all she saw was earnestness, the same earnestness she had seen in Diana countless times before. "I guess everyone's got their kinks. I mea..."

"It is not a kink," Diana cut her off. Now that it was all out in the open, both literally and figuratively, she would not bear anyone trivializing her and Krypto's love. "It is not."

"Okay, okay. Calm down.” Power Girl held her hands up in surrender. That was definitely not the thing to say. “I get it. It's just..." she searched for the right word, "unconventional." She ended with a smile, hoping it would assuage the increasingly tense Amazon.

Diana's expression didn’t waver, although her body language did relax a bit. "It is. But that doesn't make it any less true."

--

Not knowing what else to say, the two heroines grew quiet, neither interested anymore in their leftover lunch. While Diana wanted to really share more, Karen's initial reaction had really put her on her guard. Although it was nowhere near as an abject horror that she had feared, the blonde's shock was palpable. For Power Girl, the last five minutes had seismically altered her perception of this reality's Wonder Woman. Oh, she was still the same fearless, all-powerful Wonder Woman, but now, with this revelation, she had become something more human. Heck, even that wasn't the right word. Not that Karen thought of Diana as anything less than human (Amazon), but this was like discovering your neighbourhood nun moonlighted as a BDSM mistress. Okay, wrong choice again. Not a nun. While many people did tend to treat Wonder Woman as a proverbial superpowered nun, the Amazon was very much a woman with a heart that wanted love and to love. The fact that the love in question was for a dog, that was where the story lost its plot.

After what felt like an eternity, Power Girl spoke again. "Look, Diana, I don't get it, but you have got to agree, this is weird."

Diana nodded quietly, not trusting herself enough or Karen to share anything more.

With that line of conversation ending as soon as it began, once again silence grew between the two females.

--

"I think we should leave." It was Wonder Woman who broke the stillness, her voice firm but with an unmistakable hint of sadness. "Thank you for the lunch." She started to stand up, only to be stopped by Power Girl’s hand on her forearm.

"Hold on, Diana. Don't go." Karen firmed her grip. "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." She urged the Amazon to sit back down. "I'm just surprised, that's all."

The look that the Amazon gave was one of pure hurt. "It's okay," Diana assured her, though it was clear it was a lie. "I know it's not something everyone will understand." She took a deep breath, trying to push away the sadness that was creeping in.

Power Girl nodded, her mind racing with the implications of what she had just learned. "Look, Diana. I'm not judging you, okay." As soon as the words left her lips, both her own mind and the look on Diana’s face told her that just like Diana’s ‘It’s okay,’ this too was a lie. "Well, I am. Yet, I am not. It's just... I wasn’t expecting this, you know?"

Diana's eyes searched Karen's, looking for any hint of malice or mockery but found only genuine confusion. Despite the unexpected revelation, Diana was thankful for the fairly calm and mature reaction from the other woman. While they hadn't been exactly the closest of friends, Karen's behaviour so far had been surprisingly objective, almost bordering on supportive.

"I know it's a lot to take in," Diana said evenly, her hand gently stroking Krypto's fur.

"No shit, sister." Power Girl said with a small laugh, trying to break the tension that had settled between them like a thick fog. "I mean, I knew Wonder Woman had a thing; I mean, I knew you liked animals, but this is... a whole new level."

Diana couldn’t help but smile a little at that. "It's more than just liking animals, Karen. It's about finding someone who truly understands you and who you can be yourself with. And for me, that someone is Krypto."

Hearing his name from the lips of his loving female, the canine, who had been relaxing in a post-lunch food coma, perked his ears up. Instantly sensing her sadness, he rose up off the grass and stepped up to her. Watching, as if in a dream, Karen saw the majestic dog sidle up to Wonder Woman. A low whine emitting from his throat, he nuzzled at her cheek, as if worried about her well-being. As for the other half of this unorthodox pair, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, Diana wrapped her arms around her lover's neck, holding him close as if he were the only thing keeping her up.

The sight, once again, utterly normal, though not for the three of them. For Karen, although still utterly bizarre, it was also incredibly beautiful. It was in that moment that Power Girl felt something shift within her. The way Diana's arms tightened around Krypto, her eyes closing as she buried her face in his fur, and the way he leaned into her, it spoke volumes. It was clear that their bond was something much more profound than any mere friendship or companionship. It was love, pure and unadulterated.

Even if the whole thing about this being the interspecies duo's version of the love between two consenting adults was still a bit much to digest.

--

"You know," Karen said after a moment of watching them. "It doesn't matter to me who or what you love. What's important is that you are happy."

Her face still buried in Krypto's fur, Diana looked up at the blonde. "Thank you, Karen."

"Woof." Krypto too seemed to answer with a low bark of his own.

Waiting patiently until the couple had their moment, Karen cleared her throat. "Okay," she started once Krypto had settled back down. "You have to tell me more. How did this happen? I am sure you didn’t just wake up one day and think, 'You know what I want? An alien dog'. Did you? I mean, how does it even work?" She shook her head to clear out the unnatural yet somehow erotic images that were forming in her head. "Spill the beans."

The blonde’s questions took Diana by surprise, her bluntness making the Amazon chuckle despite herself. "It was nothing like that," she began. "It started with us forming a deep friendship. It could have something to do with my innate empathy with all natural creatures. But it wasn't like I just woke up one day and decided to—" she paused, her cheeks colouring as she looked for the right words, "—be with him in that way."

"But it happened?" Karen pressed, her curiosity really piqued. Mentally though, she corrected that to 'it happens.' After all, if the dog's lingering scent on the Amazon was anything to go by, they would have been most likely at it again when they got called in for the Legion of Doom emergency.

Diana nodded, her cheeks still aflame with the embarrassment of the conversation. "It was gradual. We grew closer, and one day, things just... changed."

If not for the gravity of the situation, Karen might have laughed out loud. She might be an immortal Amazon princess with the power of the gods at her disposal, but here, in this moment, Wonder Woman was looking like a teenager talking about her first crush.

"How? Did he just look at you with those puppy dog eyes and wave that doggy dic—"

"Power Girl!" Diana exclaimed in warning, her cheeks burning even more intensely than before.

"Sorry, sorry." Karen held her hands again in apology, although the wink she gave told Diana that she wasn't entirely sorry and would definitely come back to it later. "So, one day you realized..."

"That we had something more than friendship," Diana said, her voice soft but filled with conviction. "It was as if we both just knew, on some instinctual level. It was love."

“We?” The blonde heroine's eyes grew wide. "You’re saying it’s not just you. You mean he... he loves you back? I mean, that way."

Diana nodded, her gaze lingering on Krypto, who was now sitting beside her, tail wagging happily. "Yes, in his own way, he does."

Power Girl took a moment to process this revelation, her burger long forgotten. "Wow. I mean... I didn't... how is that even possible? Do you two have some sort of telepathic connection or something?"

"No." Diana smiled as she shook her head. The truth was, in the earlier days, she herself had wished for something like this. How much easier it would be if she and Krypto could communicate in some way that both would understand. As it turned out, love had its own language that didn’t require words. "No telepathy. It's more about understanding each other’s emotions and needs. I know his body language, his sounds, and his moods. Just as he knows mine."

With so much more to ask and yet so much to digest, the Kryptonian superheroine was the one who grew quiet this time around. This truly was a revelation beyond anything she could have imagined. Was it weird? Yes, it was weird; it was downright odd. Was it wrong? Most, if not all, would say yes. Karen herself would have agreed with them until an hour or so ago. Yet, sitting here, watching the two of them, it was hard not to see the genuine affection and love that existed between them. It was incredibly wholesome in its own absolutely weird, mostly wrong, yet surprisingly pure way.

Finally reaching her decision, Power Girl spoke again. “Look, Diana, I'm not going to lie; this is messed up in a lot of ways.” She paused, looking for the right words. "But if it makes you happy, and it's not hurting anyone, then who am I to judge?"

Diana looked up, her eyes guarded yet clear. "Thank you, Karen. Does this change things between us?"

Power Girl took a moment before speaking, her gaze drifting to the dog. "Well, it's certainly going to make team meetings more interesting." The attempt at humor fell flat, but she tried again. "But no, Diana, it doesn't change anything. As I said, I haven't told anyone, and nor am I going to."

Diana let out a relieved sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly.

However, just as that tension began to ease, another wave of anxiety washed over the Amazon. "But if you found out, does that mean others could too? Kal? Any of the other Leaguers with enhanced senses? Our enemies?"

Karen shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe. With me it wasn't just the scent; there were other clues too." While she didn’t go into the details with Diana, her mind flashed back to the time when, during one of her rare visits to the Kent farm, she had been tussling with Krypto. It was then that she had detected a different scent on the dog. It wasn’t the usual scents of the farm or even those from the other residents and visitors to Superman’s parents’ house. What was even more surprising was that Karen had smelled the same scent on someone else too, although not on the farm. It had been in the Hall of Justice, and the person who had that same scent had been Wonder Woman.

When asked, Martha had mentioned that the dog had just returned from a weekend on the Wonderdome. It was a regular monthly occurrence. One weekend a month, the Pooch of Steel would spend with the animals in the Wonderdome's menagerie. Yet, the scent wasn't just from any other animal, or even the normal scents of a human (Amazon) and dog rubbing off on each other. It wasn't even strong, requiring Karen to get in really close to the dog to properly catch it. But once she smelled it, its origin and nature were unmistakable. It was a mix of pheromones and bodily fluids, the kind that were released during intimate encounters.

Initially chalking it off to coincidence or her own overactive, potentially sex-starved, imagination, Karen had decided to keep an eye out. Over the next couple of months, she made biweekly visits to the aging Martha Kent. On her own Earth she ever got a chance to meet or get to know Superman’s Earth mother, for that world’s Martha and Jonathan Kent were long dead by the time Karen’s ship reached Earth. So, being able to form that relationship with this world’s Martha was something that both women welcomed.

By the time of her first visit in two weeks, Krypto smelled just as expected: of Martha, the farm, Clark… usual shit. But when she returned for the second time, once again a day after the dog had returned from his regular trip to the Wonderdome, the scent was back. It was no longer just a mere coincidence.

But it was the third month that sealed the deal for Karen. It was a pattern now. And while she didn't know the exact details of the how, the what, or the why, the Kryptonian blonde did know that something was definitely up. The question then became what should she do with the information? Should she talk to Clark about it? Well, no, definitely not that. While she did not know if and what her cousin knew about this, Karen couldn't see a scenario in which Superman would knowingly let his best friend and his dog be involved in something like this. Unless this world’s Superman turned out to be so vastly different than her cousin.

And so Karen decided to bide her time, hoping against hope that she would get some alone time with Wonder Woman. Not in the Watchtower, or the Hall of Justice, or even anywhere else with any of the other heroes in close proximity. No, something like this would have to be done in private.

Now, here they were, in a neutral, public place, surrounded by the oblivious civilians, and Power Girl had not only had her suspicions confirmed, but as it turned out, reality was way more out there than she had anticipated.

"Diana, look," Karen began, her voice earnest. "I don't know who else knows it. Trust me when I say, I haven't told a soul. As for others, Superman included, well, if I had to venture a guess, I would say that either he doesn't know or doesn't want to know." At the look on Diana's face, Karen clarified. "Us Kryptonians, and I would guess even you and other beings with super-senses, we have to always be consciously limiting what we see, smell, hear, or taste. It was one of the first things my cousin taught me when I first arrived on Earth. If we don't, it will drive us insane. So, unless someone knows what it is and is specifically looking for it, I'd say you are safe."

Diana nodded, the weight of her secret slightly lifted by Karen's understanding. "Thank you, Karen. I appreciate your discretion."

---

Although they grew quiet again, this time the silence was much less suffocating than before. Diana felt a strange sense of relief, knowing that at least one person knew the truth and wasn’t immediately repulsed by it. Power Girl, on the other hand, was still trying to digest the information she had just been handed. It was definitely not your everyday superhero gossip.

"But you know," Karen continued, her voice a mix of curiosity and something else that Diana couldn't quite put her finger on. "I need to know something," the buxom blonde leaned in closer. "What's it like? I mean, physically."

Diana felt a blush creep up her cheeks, but she also felt a strange comfort in Power Girl's curiosity. "It's... different," she said, her voice low. "But it's also incredible. He's so strong, so attentive to my needs."

Power Girl nodded, her own mind racing with thoughts she had never allowed herself to entertain before. "Does he... you know, how is his...?" She ended her question by raising her hands, spacing her index fingers a few inches apart.

Diana knew exactly what she was asking. "Yes, he is... well-endowed and incredibly skilled," she replied with a sense of pride in her voice. "But it's not just about that. It's about the connection we share, the love and trust between us."

Power Girl leaned back, nodding slowly. "Yeah, yeah. You already said that," she said. "But, I mean, how does it even work? Do you always do it, y'know," she dropped her voice to a whisper, "doggy style?"

Diana couldn't help but laugh, the tension of the conversation easing a bit. "Karen," she admonished, "that's not exactly the kind of thing one discusses over lunch."

"Hey, I'm just saying, if I had to guess, I would have gone with that one," Power Girl said with a shrug.

Diana took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. "We're more... versatile than that," she said, her cheeks still flushed. "It's not just about the physicality of it; it's the intimacy."

The blonde heroine nodded, her curiosity not entirely satisfied but respecting Diana's boundaries. "Okay, okay," she said, raising her hands. "I'll drop it." For now.

What happened next was something that neither Diana nor Karen had expected. Well, at least Karen. As for Diana, if she were to be asked where her next words came from, she would blame it on temporary insanity brought on by the relief of sharing her secret of the love and passion she felt for Krypto. Or maybe it was a heretofore unexplored kink of multiple partners that the Amazons were rumored to have. It could also just be that it was a perverted plot to ensure that her and Krypto’s secret remained safe. Whatever the case, Diana leaned in closer to Karen and whispered something that made the blonde's eyes go so wide that they practically bugged out of her eye sockets, her cheeks becoming redder than her cape.

"You want me to what?" Karen couldn’t believe her ears.

Diana's eyes held a spark that was half mischief and half challenge. "Why not experience it for yourself?" she murmured.

Karen stared at Diana, stunned. "What? With Krypto?" she squeaked, the shock of the suggestion reverberating through her body.

"With me," Diana clarified, her voice dropping even lower. "You said you want to know how it works?"

"I did," Karen said, her voice barely audible, "but that doesn't mean I have to..." She trailed off, looking at Diana with a mix of shock and... something else. Something that Diana couldn't quite read but definitely intrigued her.

"Participate?" Diana finished for her. "I'm not asking you to do anything you don't want to. But think about it, Karen."

The logic was sound, if not entirely ethical. But Power Girl had to admit it was also incredibly tempting.

"But what if someone sees?" Karen's eyes darted around the park nervously.

"We will be in the Wonderdome," Diana looked up at the clear sky. "It's secure. No one can get in without permission."

The thought of taking this conversation to the next level was a heady one. Karen's heart raced as she considered the proposition. "And you'd be okay with this?" She had to clarify, though she could feel the heat building in her own body as the images Diana's words painted grew more vivid. "I mean, didn't you just say that you love him?" Things had gone totally off the rails, and she felt like she was in a dream.

Diana took a moment to respond, her stroking of Krypto's fur now taking on an almost erotic quality, at least to Karen. "I do love him," she said, her voice firm. "My trust in our bond is absolute. But as with joy, love too grows when we share it." Her eyes meeting Karen's, she held the blonde’s attention as if casting a spell. "But this is about trust and understanding, Karen. You are my friend, and I want to trust you when you say you won't judge or betray us. And if this helps you understand what we have, then yes, I'm okay with it."

'Leave, now! Stop this madness and just run the fuck away!' The sane voice in Karen's head screamed at her. This was just fucked up on so many levels that calling it fucked up didn't even begin to cover it. It was as if she was having an out-of-body experience. And it was in the same state of outside-looking-in that Karen felt herself nod. "Okay," she heard herself say. "I'll do it."

Diana looked at her for a long moment, her eyes growing dark with something that was definitely not just friendship anymore. "Okay," she said finally.

Power Girl took a deep breath, her hand unconsciously moving to her neck to play with the neckline of her costume. "Alright," she said. "But if this gets weird, I'm out."

"Agreed," all the tension seemed to leave Diana's body, instead replaced with something primal. This had gone beyond just a discussion of her relationship. It had turned into a proposal that she had never seen coming. But now that it was here, she found herself eager to explore it. "Let's go back to the Wonderdome."

"What? Now?" Power Girl's eyes widened as the gravity of her agreement hit her. "You mean right this instant?"

Diana's tone was unwavering. "Yes, now," she said, standing up. "Unless you have somewhere to be, someth... "

"No, I don't." Karen shook her head, her voice a mix of nerves and excitement. "But should I get something? Do some preparations? I mean... I don't know if I'm ready for this."

Diana gave her a warm smile, the kind of smile that made men want to confess their darkest secrets and women wobble. It was this smile that, if asked, Karen would blame for her final surrender. Even though she had never been with a woman, let alone a dog or anything more exotic, if there was one woman who Karen would say could ‘turn’ her, it was the one in front of her. Even before today, Karen had definitely given more than a few appreciative glances at the Amazon’s perfect form, especially when she would wear one of those old-fashioned but incredibly sexy Grecian dresses of hers. When it was said that Wonder Woman's connection was with all of Mother Nature's creatures, it included superpowered, hot-blooded, big-bosomed, invulnerable, blonde Kryptonian females too.

"There's nothing you need to do, Karen. Just come as you are." Diana reached out and took her friend's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "We have all we need."

"Good. I mean, okay," the impromptu invitee to the Amazon and her canine's taboo romance nodded. "Let’s go."

"Wait, Karen," Diana stilled her movements. "Stop." Just when it looked like the Amazon warrior was going to say that it had all been a joke, just something to get back at Karen for what the blonde had just put her through, she instead pointed to the leftover food. "At least finish your burger first."

"Fuck the burger," the blonde bombshell cursed. "I don't want the fucking burger."

A minute or so later, the normal park goers looked up to the sky, a few of them even snapping photographs of the three figures rising into the air.
