Work Text:
It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon. I’ve been napping in my spot since lunch. My spot, well, my spot is anywhere I want it to be, but the spot that my humans respect most is the cushion with the blanket. Ladybug’s Blanket, on the side of the couch by the window.
The blanket hasn’t always been there. The rule used to be “No Furniture,” but Isa stopped enforcing that once Demyx started using it on him.
Isa and Demyx are my humans. They’re a special little pair. I don’t know if I’d have picked them, but they were so heart-bent on being mine, I couldn’t help but take them in. All in all, it’s been a good time. They’ve learned some tricks.
I was Number Sixteen when I took in my humans. Number sixteen of ninety-nine. Now my name is Ladybug, and my humans call me by it. They used to have numbers, too.
They’re not in the living room or the kitchen right now. That’s a bit of a shame. They should be getting me a snack. After all, I just woke up.
To hear Demyx tell it, I’m “Princess Number Eight.” Then Isa will say that eight is an unlucky number, and, the cute little things, they’ll laugh.
They’re a special little pair. I’m quite fond of them.
I’m rising from my blanket because they need to get me a snack.
Mmmmm, big stretch. Eventful day.
I shake out my ears a bit. Quite invigorating. If you haven’t tried it, you should.
And I can hear they’re across the house. So there I go, on the carpet and the floor.
The bedroom, unlatched. I nudge the door open and go inside.
“But then I’ll just have to put it back ON.”
The humans are mating again. Isa is on the bottom.
I jingle my necklace to get their attention.
“Well, look who’s up from her nap,” Demyx looks back at me. “It’s our little princess.”
“Ladybug,” Isa points at the door. “Get out.”
“Ladybug can stay,” Demyx says.
Isa makes a growl face.
“You know I don’t like doing this in front of the dog.”
“She’s a DOG,” Demyx says.
That I am.
“Take her out,” Isa says.
“What, ME?” Demyx says. “But I took my leg off for this.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Oh, well, you wanted me to, so I was gonna.”
Demyx puts a hand on the man-made leg. Isa stops him.
“You’re… so…”
Demyx looks down at him.
“What am I so?” he says.
Isa lets out a breath and doesn’t say anything. Demyx kisses him.
A special pair indeed.
I put up my paws on the bed. Wag, wag.
“Okay, Ladybug,” Demyx starts to get up. “I’ll get you a cookie.”
“You’re REWARDING her for this?” Isa says. “You’re teaching her to interrupt.”
“What,” Demyx says. “Everyone takes a bribe.”
He walks to the dooryway. I beat him there first.
Isa needs to learn how to give a bribe.
“You’re going like THAT?” Isa says.
“Like what,” says Demyx.
“The shades are up,” Isa says.
“Who do you think is looking?” Demyx says. “And so what if they see a good ass?” He pushes the door back open. “Come on, Ladybug.”
Isa makes some kind of sound on the bed. There’s a FEELING for what it means, but not a word.
He gets up and throws on a robe and pulls Demyx back from the door.
“Ladybug.”
He snaps twice. The man isn’t always a gentleman.
Demyx takes back his spot on the bed. I take it with him.
“Ladybug.”
Snap, snap.
“Try calling her Princess,” Demyx says.
“No,” Isa says. “She knows her name.”
“I think you mean she knows her PLACE,” Demyx says. “Looks like you gotta bring the cookie back HERE.”
Wag, wag.
Isa breathes out loud and goes into the hallway. Oh, little Isa.
Demyx ruffles my ears in his hand.
“You good girl,” he says.
Of course he’s pleased.
We’ve been working very hard on Fetch.
