Work Text:
Dean doesn't recognize the unassuming woman staring at them in the soup aisle of the grocery store until she addresses Cas as "Emmanuel".
How could he have forgotten? She was Cas' friggin' wife. No, she was Emmanuel's wife. What was her name again? Something Allen. Doesn't matter. Dean is already storming over, something ugly unfolding in his chest.
"That's not his name," Dean says sharply.
She remembers Dean. "You took my husband away."
"You married an amnesiac," Dean countered. "Cas and I were best friends long before he met you. We're leaving."
Cas doesn't budge. "Please don't be angry at Daphne. She took me in when I was at my most vulnerable," he says, big blue eyes pleading for Dean to understand.
"Yeah, fine. I have no problem with that. But she did more than take you in. She took advantage of you by marrying you when your memories were gone. You had another life, friends who thought you were dead. For all she knew, you could've already been married!" Dean says furiously. It looks like Daphne still has not truly realized the severity of her actions after all this time.
"I wasn't."
"Doesn't matter!" Then Dean realizes something. "Damn it, Cas. Are you still married to her?"
Cas blinks in affirmation.
"That's it. We are going to get you two divorced."
"My religion does not believe in divorce," Daphne says apologetically.
Dean rounds on her, absolutely fed up with this bullshit. "Should've thought about that before you married an amnesiac, huh?" he sneers. "Look, Cas here is an angel of the Lord. You know what that means? It means he's not human, which means the church aspect of the marriage isn't valid. All we have to do is go to the town hall and sign some papers."
"Dean," Cas says, alerting the hunter to Daphne's wide-eyed look. She was probably thinking that marrying an angel was blasphemous or something. Good for her. He reaches for Dean’s arm. “Let’s go.”
Dean tries to avoid his touch, but to no avail. To Angel Airways they go.
