Chapter Text
Yeosang worked as an assistang for an enigmatic and strange professor who never seemed to actually teach. He would claim he was working on planning his lessons and would drag Yeosang along with him on numerous adventures. The man had a way of viewing the world as if he had been around for centuries. But that couldn't be possible. That would make Professor Park hundreds of years old and he didn't look a day over 25.
Yeosang had found himself in creepy catacombs and misty forests. Nervous and convinced he would be eaten by some mysterious monster. But Seonghwa never seemed bothered. He seemed to enjoy the danger, laughing after the two ran for their lives in the dead of night.
Honestly, Yeosang wasn't sure how they survived that last one. It felt like they had moved far too fast to be humanly possible.
Today, Yeosang found himself following the Professor on another of his crazy adventures. Yeosang had thought he signed up to support a sociology professor but the longer he was with Seonghwa the more he questioned it.
"Why are we in the middle of a half-dead field?" Yeosang asked as he trudged along behind Seonghwa. The trail was barely there but the man ahead seemed to know exactly where they were going. Seonghwa wore his dress slacks complete with button up shirt and well-fit vest. Yet here they were, making their way through dry grasses and dirt paths.
"I told you, there was a rumor of a massive dire wolf. They don't live here naturally." Seonghwa explained as he followed the map he'd screenshot on his phone. Yeosang was amazed he'd even managed to do that. Seinghwa's ability with technology was boomer level at best.
"A dire wolf?! Do you know how big those are? This has nothing to do with sociology." Yeosang looked around nervously.
"Yes it does. You just choose not to believe more than you can see." Seonghwa stopped and looked around. He gasped excitedly and pointed at the ground. "There! Tracks in the moistened soil."
Yeosang peered down and a shiver ran through his spine. The tracks were clearly from a wolf but they were much larger than Yeosang expected them to be.
"Maybe we shouldn't --"
"No time to waste, let's go." Seonghwa started running toward the forest. Not wanting to be left alone, Yeosang followed after him.
The two entered the forest and Seonghwa slowed down. He listened and turned his head toward sounds that Yeosang couldn't even hear. Just when he was about to ask a wolf howl pierced the stillness.
Yeosang jumped, immediately clinging onto Seonghwa's arm. He looked around for the wolf but couldn't see where the sound was coming from. It echoed around them masking it's direction.
"He's here somewhere...." Seonghwa said to himself. He pat Yeosang's head but continued to search for the wolf.
"P-professor...." Yeosang shakily spoke. He noticed two wolves moving toward them and gasped. "We really should leave."
"Nonsense, they won't harm us unless you give them a reason to." Seonghwa cooed at his assistant then rolled up his sleeves and held up his hands, palm up.
The two wolves growled and sent goosebumps scattered across Yeosang's skin. He clutched more tightly to Seonghwa's arm and was glad when the professor pulled him close.
"What's a creature like you doing in wolf territory?" A gruff voice asked. There, where a wolf had been only moments ago, stood a man. Tall with tattoos on his arms.
"I'm here for the lone wolf in your territory." Seonghwa called out.
Yeosang looked up at him, confused and scared. The second wolf was still standing guard. It's teeth bared threateningly.
"And why would we believe a blood sucker?" The man glared.
"I believe he's an old friend. Someone I knew a long time ago." Seonghwa kept his hand on Yeosang's back.
The touch felt warm and protective but Yeosang was focused on the words being spoken around him. Lone wolf? Blood sucker? He must have fallen and hit his head.
"A wolf is friends with the likes of you?" The tattooed man sneered. "Get out of my forest before I send my pack after you and your....human." His eyes trailed to Yeosang and seemed to flash golden a moment.
Human as he was, Yeosang startled and gasped. He covered his mouth with one hand but clutched Seonghwa's vest tightly with the other. Nothing made any sense but the overwhelming feeling of power around him was nearly suffocating.
"Mingi, wait." Another voice joined them. A man in a powder blue velvet suit walked up behind the others. The wolf stepped aside for him and stopped snarling.
The suit was dirtied with a dark brown substance and the man looked exhausted. He squeezed the other man's shoulder then stepped forward.
"You shouldn't be here." The suited man said.
"Neither should you, Yunho." Seonghwa sighed and dropped his hand to his side. "You disappeared months ago- you're still in your suit!"
"If you had been there, maybe you could have helped me. But you were off gallivanting in some country with this--" Yunho gestured at Yeosxng with a mixture of disgust and interest. The longer his eyes stayed on Yeosang the more his expression shifted. He had to tear his eyes away.
"I wanted to be at the wedding. I swear it! But the council made demands I couldn't ignore." Seonghwa explained. "I'm so sorry Yunho. Had I known the town planned to turn on you...I would have done all I could to stop it."
"Yeah well...I didn't know either. And hunters came for me." Yunho huffed. His gaze landed back on Yeosang and he stared at him for several long minutes.
"I don't know what's going on but...do you...do you know each other?" Yeo9sxng asked. Once the words were out though he realized how dumb it sounded. Of course they knew each other.
"Not anymore." The man- Yunho started to turn away.
"I found him Yunho." Seonghwa quickly stepped forward. He pushed Yeosang behind him but kept his eyes on the wolves.
Yunho stopped and turned. Even the man with tattoos, Mingi, if Yeosang remembered correctly, dropped his crossed arms. All eyes were suddenly on Yeosang.
The human straightened his back, on alert. He looked at the three people looking at him then at the few wolves that had slowly ventured out of the forest trees. He hadn't even seen them appear.
"This is her descendent?" Yunho asked. "He's human."
"He is...but he has her blood." Seonghwa explained. He realized he had never said anything to Yeosang before suddenly throwing him into this world. He'd been so caught up in finding proof and seeing if Yeosang could handle the supernatural. He'd done well, but seemed like he didn't even know what he'd done.
Yeosang had calmed the unruly spirits in the catacombs with his soft singing. He'd claimed it helped calm his nerves but Yeosang didn't even know the magic he held.
He'd been able to withstand Seonghwa's unnatural speed when they ran through the forests of Romania after Seonghwa delivered an artifact to the council of elders. An artifact that humans couldn't even touch yet Yeosang had handled like it was nothing.
"Please, Yunho, you promised to help protect her bloodline...he's all that's left. The balance of our world has been undone for too long."
Yeosang felt dizzy. He didn't have family. He lost his parents when he was merely an infant. He had no blood relatives. The family he stayed with until he was a teen was killed in a house fire. Yeosang had been the only one to escape. Falling chandeliers, cars running red lights several times. More dangerous situations than the average human found themselves in. All his life strange things happened but they were just mundane enough to be explained away. Except for this.
Mingi moved closer. The wolves all froze as they watched their leader move. Ready to attack if the vampire amongst them tried anything.
"Don't hurt him." Seonghwa suddenly pulled Yeosang close again.
"If I hurt anyone, it's you." Mingi replied. He gave Seonghwa a look then reached out to take Yeosang's chin in his rough fingers.
Scared out of his mind, Yeosang didn't dare fight him. The man's golden eyes searched his face then he bent down with his nose against his head then his neck. Yeosang whimpered but tried to hold still.
Then, suddenly, Mingi was staring down at him again. He watched the human for a moment then turned to Yunho and nodded his head.
Yunho was watching the entire time. He let out a sigh. "This doesn’t mean I forgive you, Seonghwa."
"Come with us." Mingi gruffed then turned. The wolves surrounded them and nudged at Yeosang and Seonghwa.
"What's happening?" Yeosang asked as he was guided along. Wolves on all sides with Seonghwa's hand on his back.
Seonghwa looked down at him with an expression he'd seen many times. As if he'd known Yeosang before but that was impossible.
"I'm sorry I didn't say anything earlier but...Yeosang...I have a lot to tell you."
