Work Text:
It was always cold during January in Small Heath. Winter was raging, snow was falling, and for some reason, your boyfriend and his friends decided to go bar hopping after Bonnie won the boxing match. You thought you were going to the Garrison and back home, but as it unfolded, Bonnie was still high on adrenaline, and the rest of the guys wanted to celebrate with him. You went along with it, but after the sun went down, you regretted not wearing a thicker coat.
“When do you think we will be going home?” You whispered as you leaned your head against Finn’s shoulder. You were on your way to the fifth bar of the night, and you were starting to lose interest in the conversations around you. Heck, you stopped listening a long time ago when it became mostly drunken rambles.
“I don’t know yet,” Finn responded as he wrapped an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him. Finn wasn’t drinking much, opting to limit himself to one drink per location, and even then, he hadn't finished his last two drinks. He kinda just swirled the amber liquid around the glass until Isaiah or Bonnie decided to head to the next place. “You tired? We can head out if you want.”
“Yeah, but I’m also cold,” You chuckled quietly as you moved your arms under his suit jacket to hold yourself closer to him. He radiated so much heat, and you wanted to be as close to him as possible without actually being under his shirt. “There’s nothing I love more than celebrating our friends, but it’s freezing, and I would rather be cuddled up against you in front of a fire and drinking tea or something.”
“We can go home when they head out for the next pub,” Finn comforted as he wrapped his other arm around you and rubbed up and down your arm to generate heat. “They’ll probably be heading out shortly anyway, so it shouldn’t be long.”
It really didn’t take long for Bonnie, Isaiah, Michael, and a couple of their other friends to decide to head out. They threw some money on the table before drunkenly starting their walk to the next pub. Granted, Bonnie was being partially held up by Isaiah and Michael, but they were still set on being out until sunrise.
Finn and you stayed back a little, making sure the bartender got the money and making sure it was all there. No one noticed you were gone, and even if they did, they could tell you were ready to tap out.
“Here,” He said, moving to take his top coat off as soon as you stepped outside of the pub, “You can wear my coat.”
“No, are you insane?” You lectured, putting a hand on his shoulder to stop his movements. “You’ll get yourself sick!”
“Then I guess you’ll have to take care of me if I get sick,” Finn joked with a shrug, continuing to take the thick coat off. “If I do get sick, I know I won’t regret giving you my jacket.”
“No,” You whined as he put the coat over your shoulders despite your protesting, “the problem is, I don’t want you getting sick in the first place!”
“I won’t get sick,” Finn replied, meeting your pouting face. While you wanted to be angry at him, you couldn’t keep the pout up when you were finally warm for the first time in hours. “You already look happier in my jacket. Is it because you’re warm or because it’s mine?”
“Your clothes are always better than mine,” You admitted as you grabbed his hand and started walking through the snowy streets of Small Heath. “And yes, I am warm, too. I still feel bad, though.”
“Don’t start,” Finn pressed, pulling your interlaced hands into his pants pocket. “I wanted to give you my jacket because you were cold. I wanted you to be warm, and if I didn’t, you wouldn’t be wearing it.”
“Such a gentleman,” You sighed, leaning into his side with a lovesick smile on your face. “Wait, I have an idea that will keep us both warm without me taking your jacket off.”
“And what’s that?” He asked with a smirk as he looked over at you, “We still have a few blocks to go before you get your fireplace, cuddles, and tea.”
“You could carry me,” You replied just as you almost slipped on ice. Thankfully, Finn had fast reflexes and immediately wrapped his other arm around you to stop you from falling into a snowbank. You waited a second to catch your breath, yours and his mixing in the crisp air between you before you chuckled, “Good catch.”
“You’re an accident waiting to happen,” He sighed under his breath with a smile but still lifted you anyway. He wrapped an arm under your legs and held you close to his chest while you rested your head against his shoulder. He began walking back home once he determined you were comfortable and securely held in his arms. “Let’s go home.”
When you finally reached the threshold of Finn’s house, he carried you all the way to his room. He gently set you down on his bed, so he could start running a fire and place a kettle of water over it. You wrapped your arms around yourself and tucked your legs under yourself as you waited for him to set up the fire. You watched his back as he stoked the fire, added tea leaves to the kettle, and set aside two mugs on the table before leaning over you to leave a kiss on the top of your head. You looked down at your outfit before you realized something.
“Can I actually wear your shirt? I realized that don’t have anything to sleep in here,” You asked as you looked over at him. He was just leaning down, adding some wood to the fireplace, and he looked at you over his shoulder. He gestured to his wardrobe but frowned when you shook your head and pointed at him. “I want that one, Finn. It’s already warm.”
“Just trying to steal all of the clothes off my back, aren’t ya? First my jacket, now my shirt?” He chuckled as he shook his head in disbelief. Still, that didn’t stop him from removing his shirt and handing it over to you
“You offered the jacket, and I can’t help it that you’re a walking furnace,” You responded as you changed into his shirt and wrapped yourself back in his jacket for the time being. You walked up behind Finn and jokingly posed in front of him. “How do I look? Nice? Extravagant? Gorgeous?”
“All of that and more,” He chuckled, pulling you down onto his lap after he poured you both a mug of tea.
