Chapter Text
Sonia made it to the restaurant, carrying a black clasp purse in her hands. It was to a restaurant she had never been to before. It looked nice, she smiled at the gigantic sign which read the restaurant’s name.
Then, Sonia waited a bit, holding the purse in front of her. She looked down and began to think. He did take a while to get there, she was beginning to worry if he wasn’t gonna show up at all. What if Shadow had ditched her for someone else? What if the first impression she made for him was too much for him? What if everything goes horribly? Sonia frowned, growing a bit restless as she started to kick at the ground with her left foot.
However, her worries subsided when she spotted the red and black hedgehog approaching. She put a hand towards her mouth as she saw his outfit. That cool gray look of the vest and pants looked rather nice on him. Her heart was racing as she looked at him and her cheeks turned rosy.
Over with Shadow, he had his hands in his pants pockets as he walked over to Sonia. He kind of stopped to look at her. There was a faint radiant glow emanating from her. That purple on her looked extremely pleasing to the eye. Shadow felt a burning sensation in his chest, prompting him to check his heart rate, and it was racing. Though, he did not know why. He hoped he wasn’t having a heart attack.
The two hedgehogs merely stood feet away from each other, unsure of what to say. They were standing in the front of the restaurant as silence filled the air.
“...So… are you ready to go?” Shadow spoke up.
“...Yeah! I am!” Sonia said with a grin.
So the two went inside, Shadow had opened the door for her. Sonia thanked him and went to their table. They sat in the middle of the restaurant.
“Nice place you picked out!” Sonia said in a cheery tone.
“...It is indeed…” Shadow replied.
“You have good tastes in restaurants!” She exclaimed. “I LOVE fancy restaurants, but I’ve never been here!”
Shadow did not say anything as he looked at her, looking down at his seat after a while.
“So, I should probably start off,” Sonia began, while a busboy came and gave them their drinks. Shadow perked his head towards her.
“I’m part of a band called Sonic Underground. Although I do have some solo acts!” She explained.
“I see… what kind of music do you play?” Shadow asked.
“Mostly pop and R&B,” Sonia replied. “So music from the 80s, like Madonna! “
Shadow perked up even more. He was a sucker for girly pop music. Though, was it lame to tell her that?
“I see…” Shadow responded.
“Let’s see…. I also like other music, fashion, shopping, and sparring!” Sonia beamed. “When I was little, apparently I had super strength!”
“Interesting…” He nodded.
“I have a loving family, but I mostly spent time with my Aunt Windermere! She taught me everything there was to be prim and proper!” Sonia explained. “I have these two annoying brothers… and well, one of them has been really overprotective of me recently for some reason…”
“I see…” Shadow nodded. “Well, he’s just looking out for you…”
“ACHOO!” Sonic sneezed. Sally was reading a book next to him on the bed.
“Are you ok?” She inquired, turning her head towards him.
“...I don’t know why, but… I feel like someone’s talking about me…” He explained.
“Ah, well whatever it is, I’m sure it’s nothing major.” Sally replied back with a smile.
“Yeah… he wasn’t really like this before…” Sonia said with a sigh, as she took a straw and started stirring her water.
Shadow didn’t know what to say after that, sweating down bullets.
“...Rouge… what do I say…” Shadow whispered through gritted teeth.
“Tell her you have beautiful eyes!” Rouge’s voice chimed. The Ultimate Lifeform nodded in response.
“...I have beautiful eyes.” Shadow said, not blinking as he stared at her with his big red eyes.
“Indeed you do~” Sonia said in a dreamy tone.
“NO!” Rouge exclaimed. “SHE has beautiful eyes!”
“...You have beautiful eyes…” Shadow said.
Sonia was taken aback and blushed. Shadow was quite the charmer, wasn’t he?
“..Thank you…” Sonia replied with a giggle.
“She’s turning red…” Shadow whispered through gritted teeth once more. “What does that mean? Is she sick?”
Shadow did not get a response, instead, all he heard was an audible facepalm through the microphone.
“Hi, what can I get you?” The waiter finally came. He had a really obvious prepubescent voice as it cracked every two syllables.
“Hi!” Sonia said with a smile. “Let’s see… I’ll have your confit byaldi please, with sparkling lemonade!?”
“Fine..” The waiter said, writing it down. “And what do you want?” He asked, motioning to Shadow.
“...I’ll take your chicken cordon bleu please…” Shadow finally said.
“Alright.” The waiter said, as he took their menus, leaving the two hedgehogs alone once more.
“Well, I believe I’ve said enough about me!” Sonia exclaimed. “What about you, Shadow?”
Shadow blinked for a bit, hesitating on what exactly he should say.
“Well… I was made in a place called the Ark….” Shadow began. He saw Sonia place her hand on the table and rested her chin, listening to him.
“As the Ultimate Lifeform… I was created rather than being born. I have two “fathers”, One is my creator, and one is my biological father… we don’t talk about him…” Shadow explained, muttering that last part for a bit.
‘Ooh~, how interesting,” Sonia commented.
“... I also have a half brother but… we also don’t talk about him…” Shadow explained. “Then there’s… blah blah blah…”
As Shadow spoke, Sonia began to fall in a dreamy trance. Her eyes turned to hearts as the surroundings changed and they were in a field of flowers. Sonia was a white flowy dress looking in the opposite direction as the wind was blowing. Suddenly Shadow appeared with a red rose in his mouth as he gave her a seductive look. Sonia’s heart fluttered until she felt herself getting picked up and twirled around. She was giggling a lot.
“...And that’s my life story…” Shadow said.
“Huh?!” Sonia squeaked out, as she saw Shadow’s gaze on her. She shook her head, snapping out of her trance. “Sorry, what were you saying?”
“Um… I was telling you about my life story…” Shadow replied.
“Right!” She said with a sheepish grin. “...Good story!”
Shadow nodded in acknowledgement. Though admittedly he was feeling a little hungry, where was their food?
“Here.” The waiter said, setting down their plates on the table. Though there was something wrong with their dishes.
“....Um, excuse me, but this isn’t what we ordered…” Shadow spoke up.
“Yes it is!” The waiter squeaked out. “It’s what you ordered.”
Sonia’s cheeks puffed up as she was glaring at the waiter. No way was this date gonna get ruined because some dumbass couldn’t do their job correctly.
“I’m sorry.” Sonia said in a stern voice. “But HE SAID that this isn’t what we ordered!”
“Fine.” The waiter turned around, only for him to give the same thing… which blew off Sonia.
“LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT. YOU GO BACK INTO THE KITCHEN AND GIVE US OUR CORRECT ORDERS OR ELSE I WILL BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT WITH MY KEYTAR. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!” Sonia said, grabbing the waiter by his shoulder and pointing her gun on him.
Shadow perked up and his eyes widened. Damn, who knew Sonia could be feisty?
“Alright geez! You don’t need to be so angry!” The waiter said as he frantically took the dishes.
By then, other patrons in the restaurant stared at the magenta hedgehog, who blushed from embarrassment.
“...I’m… sorry, you had to see that,” Sonia began. “That wasn’t very ladylike of me…”
“....It’s ok…. That was hot…” Shadow said, before realizing what he said.
“What-” Sonia blushed.
“...Nothing!” He said quickly. “So where did you get that gun?”
“Oh, it’s my medallion!” Sonia said in a cheery tone. “Mine turns into a weapon/ For some reason, it’s a gun that shoots lasers….I’ll still take whatever weapon necessary though!”
“I see….” Shadow nodded, as his cheeks turned rosy as he listened to her talk. There was something about Sonia that really intrigued Shadow. Perhaps it was her contrasting feisty yet kind attitude. There were times where she was a bit overdramatic, but for some reason, he did not seem to mind. If anything, this quirk of hers amused him in a way, and he wasn’t the hedgehog to smile or find anything entertaining.
Eventually though, their food did come and it was in the correct order. Throughout the course of the dinner, Sonia was mostly doing all of the talking while Shadow just listened and looked at her. When it was time to pay however…
“I’ll pay, I have all the money in the world!” Sonia said with a smile.
Shadow blinked. Though Rouge whispered at him through the microphone, which caught his attention.
“Yeah, what is it, Rouge?” He whispered through gritted teeth.
“Pay for her, be a gentleman.” She stated.
“I’ll pay.” Shadow declared. “As the Ultimate Gentleman, I must!”
“Oh no, Shadow, it’s ok, I-” Sonia was cut off as Shadow took out a comically large stack of dollars on the table.
“Shadow, really, the bill isn’t that much, it’s only going to be like 0.5 percent off my bank account!” Sonia explained, placing her debit card down, only for Shadow to grasp her hand. There was a long pause between them as they both were flustered. Sonia was red and unable to move while Shadow was just staring at her with wide eyes. This caused Shadow to jump back in surprise, falling into his seat and knocking out the microphone/earbud in his ear, which caused it to fall into a cup of water. Sonia gasped as she put a mouth over her head. She didn’t mean to knock out his earbud!
“...Ok… I guess you win…” Sonia said with a soft smile, prompting Shadow to slap down the comically large stack of money.
Before they left, Sonia took out her phone and snapped a picture of her and Shadow together. Finally, they left the restaurant.
“Thanks so much for dinner, Shadow!” Sonia said, giving him a hug, which caused the ebony hedgehog to freeze up.
Shadow did not know how to respond to this hug. It wasn’t a normal friend hug like Amy or Rouge would give him, and it was certainly different from the kind of hug Maria would give him. It felt weird to be hugged. This kind of hug felt more… special. They just kind of stood there for what felt like minutes.
Well at least according to Shadow, Sonia let go after a few seconds. She was kind of frowning as she was expecting him to hug her back, but her look softened when she saw how tense he was.
“...Sorry about the hug,” Sonia apologized, grabbing his hand, only for him to take it away, leaving the magenta hedgehog sad.
“...No worries…” Shadow replied back, looking at the floor.
“Wow… the stars look so beautiful!” Sonia exclaimed, looking up at the night sky above them. “I wish I was able to see them from up close!”
“...I see…” Shadow responded, as he too did the same thing. He was whispering to Rouge about what to do next, but he got no answer from her. He began to get a little frustrated, but then he remembered that his earbud fell into water shortly before they left.
Well fuck.
He panicked for a bit. What was he supposed to do now? The woman wanted to see the stars damn it.
“Hold still.” Shadow said, grabbing her hand. “Chaos Control.”
Shadow and Sonia were then teleported to a really tall hill. Sonia was in awe as she was able to see Mobius, well not all of it, just the whole of Knothole.
“Wow… it’s so beautiful up here!” Sonia exclaimed. She laid down on a patch of soft grass as she stared at the stars around her. “Have you ever seen anything more beautiful Shadow~”
Shadow’s eyes only widened as he remembered how Maria had asked him a similar question. He tensed up and had his hands close to his face.
“...Yes… Yes I have…” He finally spoke up, earning a giggle from Sonia. There was something about her giggle that made Shadow feel a weird feeling inside.
“How did you do that though?” Sonia inquired as she turned her head towards the Ultimate Lifeform.
“How did I do what?” He repeated.
“Your teleportation power thing” Sonia replied. “It kind of disoriented me to be honest…”
“...I see… sorry about that…” Shadow apologized. “Chaos Control is a special power that I wield… it is extremely powerful…”
Sonia looked at him in awe. Everything about Shadow was just so cool! Not to mention he was incredibly handsome too. She looked at the watch on her wrist and the time read ‘12:00’ on the dot. Sonia smiled. Tonight was a good night, and it was still early too-
Wait a minute.
“OH DEAR! I’M LATE TO GO HOME!” Sonia shrieked, startling the jet black hedgehog.
“...What-” Shadow replied.
“I’M LATE!” Sonia repeated. “I promised my brother I would be home by 10 o'clock!”
“I see…” Shadow nodded. “Hold still. I’ll take you home.” He said, grabbing her hand again.
“Thank goodness we made it!” Sonia exclaimed. “Now my brother doesn’t have to have a heart attack!”
Shadow nodded as he looked at the place in front of him. Nice quaint place, he thought to himself. Though there was something about the place that seemed familiar…
As Sonia was about to open the door, she was interrupted by Sonic opening it instead.
“Hey there Sonia.” Sonic greeted with a smile through gritted teeth. “You’re… late, coming home.”
Sonia just smiled nervously as she put her hand behind her head. Sonic peered his head towards Shadow.
“And you brought HIM here!” Sonic said in a passive-aggressive tone.
“Sonic? What are you doing here?” Shadow gawked as he glared at his arch rival.
“...Sorry about him, Shadow,” Sonia began. She then motioned to the blue hedgehog. “This is Sonic, my annoying brother.”
Annoying brother.
Annoying brother.
Annoying brother.
Annoying brother.
Those two words rang in Shadow’s mind. Who knew the hedgehog that he had just gone on a date with was related to the most annoying blue hedgehog in the world?
“I see…” Shadow began.
And then he smirked.
Sonic and Sonia’s jaws both dropped to the floor. Sonia in particular had a bit of a nosebleed. The jet black hedgehog then grabbed Sonia by the waist and was inches close to her face, almost as if he was about to kiss her. Sonia turned an even deeper shade of red as she felt Shadow’s breath close to her face and how he held her.
“...See you next time… gorgeous…” Shadow said with a smirk, leaving her speechless.
He then gently let go of her, and turned to leave. Sonia fainted after a while as she was practically a tomato. Sonic on the other hand, was flopping on the floor again as he was rambling nonsense.
Needless to say though, Shadow left feeling satisfied, having a smirk on his face on his way home.
