Chapter 4: S1 E5. Breaking Black

Notes:

I’m so sorry this took so long- I had such a struggle with this chapter, idk why, but I did. Also, why did I just find out that Riley is canonically gay? Plus the entire time I was writing the flashback scene, I was hoping an old person wouldn’t ask me what I was doing. I wrote the entire scene at the hair salon-

Chapter Text

Laioth sighed, sitting as he stayed in the kitchen, hiding away from anyone who wasn’t one of the Rangers.

He would usually be wandering the halls, looking out for any suspicious behavior or lost children, but right now, Miss Morgan wanted him in the kitchen since Chase was even more distracted than usual.

The Black Ranger in question was supposed to be manning the grill, though he more focused on his phone, not noticing the fact that at least four of the burgers had caught on fire. Again.

Laioth sighed, bored as he tuned into to whatever was going on looking past the half wood doors as he watched people move around.

“Ugh, Chase! Cant you get anything done?” He heard Shelby say, looking over to see the Pink Ranger finish fixing an order for two customers, walking out quickly, clearly frustrated.

Chase barely noticed though, instead squirting the mayo in the counter as he stayed focused on his phone.

Laioth looked away, rolling his eyes as he watched Shelby give the customers their order, walking over to the next two.

”I’m Shelby, can I take your-“ She cut herself off as she saw Chase. “Chase? I thought you were manning the grill.” She said, staring at the New Zealander.

“The grill?” He asked, tilting his head before panic settled in, gasping. “The grill! Sorry! Sorry! I’m so sorry!” He yelled, running back to the kitchen as the food on the grill finally caught on fire, smoke detectors beeping loudly as chaos erupted.

”I’ll get the fire extinguisher!” Tyler yelled, running off to find it.

Laioth just sighed, watching the chaos. He did not like how he thought about the destruction him and Heckyl had brought to planets when he saw that fire.

“Come on! One little fire?” Chase said, throwing his hands up in disbelief.

”That could’ve burned down the entire museum!” Miss Morgan said, clearly frustrated with the kiwi as she stared at Chase.

”That would have also exposed the base.” Laioth chimed in, flicking his tail as he wiped ash off his coat, slightly annoyed. Did Chase even know how long it took to make this? Really, if he sold it, it would be almost 20-thousand space bullion, as much as some outlaw monster, probably someone like Duplicon or Spellbinder if he thought about it.

”Okay, I get it, I’ll promise to pay more attention to- Moana!” Chase cut himself off, going to hug an oddly dressed woman as he smiled. “It’s been a long time!”

“Who is that?” Shelby asked, while Tyler shrugged.

Moana pulled away from the hug, putting her hands on his shoulders as she spoke. “Chase, I need your help.” She said before pulling him off to the side, clearly nervous.

”What is it?” Chase asked, looking slight concerned.

”I’ve had a vision, and- and someone, no- something, is going to steal something of great value from me.” Moana said, fidgeting with her hands.

“Moana’s a matakite, a Māori fortune teller from New Zealand.” Chase said, turning to the group as if to supply some sort of information that would better help them grasp the situation, though the others just looked confused to Laioth, probably even suspicious too.

”I need you to guard my shop!” Moana exclaimed, sounding clearly desperate as she grabbed Chase by the shoulders, a look of sorry on her face.

”Really? Chase is gonna guard it?” Shelby asked, raising a brow as she crossed her arms.

”I hope you have a fire extinguisher.” Miss Morgan said, a still annoyed look on her face. A few of the Rangers let out laughs, while Laioth just yawned, quietly growing bored already. Things would never be normal for him, would they? “What is that?” Koda asked, tilting his head as he looked at Miss Morgan.

”What about the police?” Chase asked, crossing his arms over his chest as he raised a brow.

”Oh, they think I’m crazy.” Moana said, moving her fingers around the sides of her head in a circular motion before she chuckled. “You have special strength Chase, only you can help me.” She said, while Chase pulled out his Energem from under his shirt.

Chase looked at her, before a slight smile spread across his face, nodding. “Alright.” He said, before Moana dragged him away, Chase talking as he almost tripped. “Don’t worry, I can handle this!” He said, leaving the rest to look at eachother in confusion.

Chase held up a Māori mask to his face, talking as he smiled. “Woah, Moana, this Māori makes us cool.” He said before Moana shrieked, rushing over.

She grabbed the mask from his hands, muttering as she held up a finger. “Touch nothing!” She said, putting the mask back on the shelf where it belonged.

”Chase. You must stay alert at all times.” Moana said, putting a hand on his arm.

Chase inhaled sharply before he spoke. “Don’t worry, Moana, I will protect your shop.” Moana sighed, not looking convinced before he spoke again. “Go on.” He urged.

Moana looked at him before nodding, slightly hesitant as she called out behind her. “I’ll be back tomorrow!”

Chase sighed, looking around the shop. “Better get settled in…I guess.”

Spellbinder walked almost silently into the odd human shop, chuckling to himself. “Nehehe…Once I do this, Sledge will finally free me….”

The bird like monster, finally spotting the thing he was looking for, picked it up, examining it as he laughed. “Ah, yes! Soon the Rangers will be under my control.” He said, examining the gold object, similar to a vault door.

Chase, suddenly waking up, and having previously gone unnoticed, sprang to his feet, shouting, “Hey! Put that back!”

Spellbinder looked over as the mini-vault merged with him, a swirl of purple light shooting out of it. “Take that, human!” He said, snapping his beak as he ran away.

Chase ran after him, throwing his skateboard helmet on and grabbing his board. He stopped on the steps of Moana’s shop, blinking a few times. “What’s…wrong with me?” He mumbled before getting on his board, chasing after the monster as he grabbed his Dino Comm. “That feels better…” He mumbled before speaking into his comm. “Guys, I’m gonna need some backup.” He said, hoping someone heard him.

He gritted his teeth, saying a quick ‘Energize’ before he morphed, which felt much more comfortable as he jumped over two cars, continuing to skate after Spellbinder. “Let’s do this!”

Spellbinder cackled, sliding under a garage door. “I’ll lose this punk in here!”

Chase stopped, watching the monster disappear into the garage. “There he is. I’ve got to find up what he’s up to.” He paused, groaning as he felt an odd, almost…twinkling? Was that even a thing? Oh, whatever- He shook his head, blinking as he shook his head, taking his hand away from his head before running inside the garage.

”Stop right there!” He yelled at the…cloud of purple smoke? What? He shook his head, firing at it with his blaster, missing again and again.

”So you’re the Black Ranger? Relax, soon you’ll be under the control of the great Spellbinder!” The cloud of smoke yelled, cackling.

”Wrong! No one controls me mate!” Chase said, shooting at the monster as he jumped over a crate, launching himself forward.

“Well aren’t you in for a surprise!” Spellbinder said, firing explosive sparks at the Black Ranger, still cackling like a villain in some crappy rip-off version of a Disney movie.

”Hah! Wrap your beak around this!” Chase said, firing at least ten shots at Spellbinder before they were thrown back at him.

He let out a shout, hitting the concrete and rolling before he felt his head pound, that twinkling(?) feeling back again.

”Chase!” He heard Tyler’s voice, clutching his arm as he noticed the rest of the team there, already morphed.

“Monster! You might be tough one on one, but your odds just got a whole lot worse!” Tyler said, grabbing his Dino Morpher and a Dino Charger, the other three doing the same.

“Dino Steel! Armor on!” The four rangers said in unison, charging at Spellbinder at once.

“You’re too slow!” Spellbinder yelled, throwing Riley and Koda to the side, while Tyler got flung into a few metal barrels.

”Tricera Drill!” Shelby shouted as she aimed her drill at Spellbinder, only to get knocked back, landing next to Koda.

Tyler grunted, trying to get a hit on the monster before being thrown into some crates.

”He’s so fast.” Shelby said, slightly out of breath.

”His cape, hard like rock.” Koda said, pushing himself up slightly.

”We’ve got to get through it.” Shelby said, looking over at Koda.

”Good thing Im the hot shot.” Chase said, coming out from behind a crate as he held his Dino Morpher as he aimed at Spellbinder’s chest, where the pendant was.

“That’s right, Spellbinder, I’m not gonna miss this time.” Chase said, hesitating for a second, just long enough for Spellbinder to grab Tyler, holding him infront of the pendant like a human shield.

“Time to change your target, Black Ranger.” Spellbinder said, letting out a almost squawk as Tyler kicked him, though didn’t let go.

”Take the shot, Chase! I trust you!” Tyler said, still struggling as he tried to break free from Spellbinder’s grip.

”I have to be careful….it’s too risky..” Chase mumbled, hesitating as his eyes darted between the two.

”Shoot your friend, Black Ranger! I command you!” Spellbinder yelled, as if annoyed that Chase was hesitating.

Chase froze, that twinkling feeling coming back as he felt his arms move down without his permission, aiming at Tyler instead of Spellbinder. “Ugh..what’s happening to me..?”

”Chase?! What are you doing?!” Tyler yelled, feeling Spellbinder tighten his grasp almost painfully as he kicked.

”I don’t know-“ Chase started, but was cut off my Spellbinder. ”Shoot him!”

”Chase! No!” Koda yelled, slightly panicked.

”I can’t…control myself- What’s happening to me?” Chase mumbled, his hands shaking before his Morpher fell from his hands, clutching his head as he felt a pain shoot through his head, falling to his knees.

”Chase! What’s wrong?!” Came Riley’s voice, sounding more panicked than he had been before on a mission.

”Koda! Let’s get him while we have the chance.” Shelby said, aiming her Tricera Drill at the ground, while Koda threw himself at Spellbinder and Tyler.

”Stego Shield punch!” Koda shouted, managing to his Spellbinder in the arms, strong enough to get Spellbinder to release his grasp on Tyler for him to get out of the monster’s grip, while Shelby attacked from behind.

“Tricera Drill!” She shouted, attempting to get through the monster’s cape before grabbing Tyler’s hand. “Run you idiot!” She yelled, while Tyler chuckled slightly, grabbing Koda’s arm. “Thanks Koda!”

Spellbinder snapped his beak, growing frustrated. “You won’t win that easily! Soon you’ll all be under my control!” Spellbinder yelled, moving his cape and flapping it like a pair of wings.

”Not if I can help it!” Riley yelled, jumping infront of his friends as he loaded one of his Dino Charges into his Morpher, shooting at Spellbinder as the monster shouted, covering himself with his keep before disappearing after the explosion settled.

”Huh..?” Riley muttered, looking over at the others.

”Hey! Where’d he go?” Shelby asked, sounding slightly annoyed as she ran up to Riley’s side.

“What did he mean, “under his control?”” Riley asked, looking over at Shelby.

”Hey, Chase. What went on back there?” Tyler asked, putting a hand on Chase’s shoulder.

“Hey! ..Just give me some space, mate.” Chase snapped, sounding slightly less upset at the end as he slapped Tyler’s hand away, walking off.

”Huh..?” Tyler mumbled, watching as Chase stalked off. “Chase!” He called out, only to get ignored.

”Something’s…not right.” Tyler mumbled, looking at the ground before back at the rest of the team.

”Spellbinder! You said once you had that pendant, the Rangers will fall under your spell! And yet they’re still fighting you!” Sledge yelled, throwing the crow monster at the dashboard before yelling at Wrench and Fury. “Lock him in solitary!”

”Yes Master Sledge.” Fury said, almost grumbled as him and Wrench grabbed each of Spellbinder’s arms, rolling his eyes as the bird monster kicked his legs.

”No! Not solitary! Heckyl’ll destroy me! He’s nearly destroyed the cell since Laioth escaped! And the Black Ranger is under my spell, it just takes time to grow! Once it’s done, he’ll help me bring all the Ranger’s under your command!” Spellbinder yelled, letting out a sigh of relief as Fury and Wrench stopped dragging him.

“Just get me one Ranger, and you’ll be free, Spellbinder.” Sledge said, not turning to look at the monster as he paused long enough for Spellbinder to speak.

”Uh- I can do that!” Spellbinder said, snapping his beak at a Vivix who tried to grab his cape.

”Because if you get none, I’ll pluck you for dinner.” Sledge finsihed, looking over at the three monsters as he walked off.

”Oh dear…” Wrench murmured, looking at Spellbinder who’s feathers were now ruffled slightly.

Kendall sighed, listening as Tyler, Riley, and Shelby were trying to explain what happened out there. “He blocked all of our attacks with that cape.” Riley said, crossing his arms over his chest.

”None of our weapons could break through it.” Shelby huffed, leaning against the counter.

”That, is why you have me.” Kendall said, looking at them before pulling out one of the Dino Spike Chargers. “I give you, the Dino Spike Charger. It should harness the power of all five of your Energems.”

Tyler looked at the Dino Charger, as he had been the one to grab it before looking back at Miss Morgan. “Dino Spike? Perfect.”

”Just know, it takes all five Rangers to activate the Dino Spike.” Kendall said, sighing as she looked over at Chase, Koda, and Kepler, before her eyes momentarily flickered to a zonked-out Laioth, who was just laying on the floor. She sighed, shaking her head. Okay…maybe running tests on a not that healthy alien wasn’t the smartest idea…

”There is definitely something wrong here.” Keeper said, waving his staff in front of Chase’s face, a slight look of concern on his face as he set the end of the staff on the floor.

“Ugh…it’s in my head.” Chase mumbled, blinking a few times before letting out a groan. “I feel like I’m losing control of my body.”

The other three walked over, looking slightly more worried at Chase’s statement.

”Though whatever he hit me with, it seemed to go away when I was on my skateboard.” He muttered, rubbing his face as he remembered the moment of full control he had once he had gotten on his board.

”The spell will grow stronger, until it controls you completely. Perhaps if you knew the origin of the pendant-“ Keeper started, before pausing as Chase seemed to get an idea.

”Moana!” Chase said, trying to get up as he ignored the concerned words from his friends before he felt himself being pushed back down, Riley’s hands on his shoulders.

”She’ll know where it came from..” Chase mumbled, trying to stand again before being pulled back down more roughly, Laioth’s tail wrapped firmly around his leg.

”Don’t. You’re a risk to everyone right now.” The half-asleep alien muttered, seeming to fall back asleep as he flicked his ears.

“You mean..the lady of the black magic?” Koda asked, looking at Chase and ignoring Laioth as he scrunched his face up slightly.

”It’s not black magic. Trust me, Moana is on our side.” Chase said, sniffling as he looked at Koda.

”Stay here. We’ll figure out how to break the spell.” Tyler said, patting Chase’s shoulder before nodding towards the others. “Let’s go see Moana.”

”Back soon.” Koda said as he walked away.

Chase, watching them live as he scowled, attempting to get back up, only to get tugged back down. Ugh…why did they have to find an alien of all things? Why not like, a squirrel or something?

”Chase. Stop. You are more of a danger than a help right now, you will put them all at risk. You must stay.” Keeper said, putting a clawed hand on his shoulder as he sighed.

”If only I had stayed focused in Moana’s shop, Spellbinder would have never gotten that pendant in the first place.” Chase said, feeling a slight twinkling feeling again as he shook his head.

”You can’t change the past, but you can learn from it.” Keeper said, before a walking away.

Moan hummed, flipping through her book of the many items she had before stopping at the page with the pendant on it, letting out a gasp of horror. “Oh! This is the pendant that was stolen!” She said, the Ranger’s leaning slightly closer as they exchanged nervous glances.

”It was forged from an evil heart, in the darkest corner of New Zealand. Destroy it! Or soon, Chase will forget he’s your friend and turn against you!” Moana said, moving out from behind the counter.

Tyler looked at the others, quietly uncomfortable before he spoke. “We have a weapon that might be strong enough, but it won’t work without Chase.”

”If he can focus, Chase can push the spell long enough from his mind to use your weapon.” Moana said, looking at the Rangers with an unsettling hard look in her eyes.

Riley raised a brow, scoffing slightly. “I doubt that.” He muttered, glancing over at Shelby.

”Chase has the attention span of a flea, he’s worse than a toddler.” Shelby said, crossing her arms over her chest.

Moana frowned, looking at them before speaking. “Long ago, your friend Chase proved to me that he can focus very deeply, even in the most dire of circumstances.” Moana said, turning and walking behind the counter as she continued. “It happened one day, just as I was closing my shop.”

(Flashback)

Moana hummed, setting her stroller out on the steps of the porch of her shop before remembering she hadn’t locked up yet. “Ooh, better lock up, I do need to remember that.” She said, turning around and letting go of the stroller as she started to lock up the shop before turning around, letting a gasp as she realized the stroller had moved, rolling down the steps. “Oh, Tabitha!” She said, going to move before realizing her dress was caught on one of the items she had outside.

She looked over, letting out a slight shriek of fear. “Oh, my Tabitha!”

Chase looked up, clasping his helmet on his head before looking towards the stroller, almost immediately getting on his skateboard as he chased after the runaway stroller.

He gritted his teeth, pushing himself further as he swerved between people, ignoring people shouting as he groaned. Ice cream cart. Why?

He jumped off his board, rolling over the top of the cart that luckily wasn’t open before landing back on his board. He quickly ignored the shouts from the ice cream man behind him as he jumped onto a table, ignoring the people shouting as he jumped onto the next table.

He shook his head, rolling his eyes as some guy flipped him off before he stopped at the edge of the steps by the sidewalk, letting out a sigh of relief as the stroller came to a stop, before realizing it was in the middle of the cross walk. With a dump truck heading straight for it.

Oh shit.

He gritted his teeth, moving quickly as he launched himself off the steps, unintentionally doing a backflip as he reached his arm out, grabbing the bundle of blanket in the stroller before landing as close to the sidewalk as he could manage, holding it close to his chest as the dump truck slammed into the stroller, continuing to drive through the busy street.

Chase sighed, handing the bundle to the lady, watching as she held it close, cooing. “Oh, my Tabitha. Thank you so much sir.” She said, moving some of the blanket to show a small orange tabby cat.

Chase blinked, staring at the cat as he spoke. “I just…risked my life for..” He started, trailing off as the lady, which he remembered had introduced herself as Moana, looked at him, tilting her head.

”….The most beautiful little kitty I’ve ever seen.” He finished, looking back at the cat as he nervously smiled.

”Oh! Come with me, such bravery must be rewarded!” Moan said, grabbing his wrist as she led, well, dragged him inside her shop.

”Hey! Uh- it’s fine, really!” Chase said, though Moana didn’t listen as she put Tabitha down on the counter.

”No, no! I insist. Such selfless bravery, so rare, must be rewarded with something of equal rarity.” Moana said, reaching as she opened a cabinet, pulling out a small box, a brown one with intricate black carvings covering it.

She handed it to him, urging him to open it.

Chase starred at her, hesitating before opening it, staring at the black crystal lying on some sort of fabric, wait was it velvet? He idly reached out, grabbing it before watching as it glowed, purple lines appearing on the stone. He stared at it before the lines followed his body, were they tracing his veins?

He felt his eyes widen, going black for a split second as the image of a dinosaur took over his vision before disappearing, his eyes returning to normal.

(end flashback)

“So that’s how Chase got his Energem.” Riley said as Moana finsihed her story, the slightest tug of a smile on his lips.

”Hmm..” Moana hummed, closing the book as she put it back in its place under the counter.

”So..easy for him. I froze in glacier, for thousands of years.” Koda said, his eyes wide as he held his hands like he was eating a burger.

Tyler and Shelby chuckled, not noticing how Moana didn’t seem shocked by what Koda said. Tyler grabbed his Dino Comm as it started beeping, listening to what Moana was saying.

”When he’s on his skateboard, Chase can push everything else from his mind.” She said, looking at Riley as she hummed.

”That’s right. He said that when he was on his board, the spell went away.” Shelby said, snapping her fingers as she smiled.

Tyler idly put his Dino Comm back, speaking up. “Guys, Kendall said that Spellbinder’s returned. And Chase…he’s disappeared.”  He said, looking at the others before turning to Moana as him and the others started walking out of the store. “Thanks Moana, but we gotta go.”

”Come on, let’s hurry!” Shelby said, while Moana watched them with a concerned expression.

“You told Sledge that the Black Ranger was under your control!” Wrench snapped, kicking a metal bucket as Curio jumped off the crate he was sitting on, standing next to Spellbinder.

”Relax, he’s going to join us soon. Don’t get your screws in a rust.” Spellbinder assured, placing a hand on Wrench’s shoulder that was slapped off. “Rude tin of bolts…” Spellbinder grumbled before looking up as the Rangers ran into the warehouse.

“Wrong on both accounts.” Tyler said, slightly annoyed.

”Huh?” Curio said, peering curiously at the Rangers.

“Chase never join you!” Koda said, looking like he was ready to punch someone.

”It’s too late for your friend! And now your time is up!” Spellbinder cackled, blasting at the Rangers with the pendant.

The rangers dodged and ducked, avoiding the blasts as Spellbinder yelled. “Destroy them!” Before the three monsters charger at the Rangers, Curio running towards Shelby.

”You’ll all be under Spellbinder’s control soon!” The plush like monster said, ducking out of the way as Shelby tried to kick him.

”Not a chance!” Shelby said, rolling out of the way as she glared.

”Hey! We’re not done fighting yet!” Curio said, moving closer as he grumbled. Maybe he should’ve just stayed with Poisandra.

”Oh, I know.” Shelby said before pushing a wooden dolly towards the monster as he started to run forward, stepping on the dolly and tripping into a pile of metal barrels.

”Whoa! Ah-!” Curio yelped, groaning as he just laid on the floor, mumbling under his breath. “I should’ve stayed with Poisandra, taunting prisoners is way more fun than this.”

”Face it Rangers, you’ll never beat us!” Wrench yelled, successfully kneeing the blue one in the stomach, before going to grab the green one, throwing him to the floor after he managed to grab his arm.

”Don’t even try.” Wrench said, rolling his eyes before shouting as he was kicked into a pile of junk by the blue one.

”My spells are impossible to resist.” Spellbinder said, going to kick Tyler in the stomach before the Red Ranger dodged out of the way.

”We’ll see about that.” Tyler said, jumping out of the way as Riley and Koda both attacked Spellbinder.

”You don’t scare us!” Riley huffed, landing a punch that unfortunately hit Spellbinder’s cape before the four of them were thrown back, hitting the floor.

”We…have to try the Dino Spike.” Tyler grunted, trying to push himself up as he breathed heavily, hissing as he felt a pain in his chest.

”But- need Chase!” Koda protested, looking at Tyler as he grunted.

”Your turn!” Spellbinder yelled, succeeding in hitting three of them but stomping his foot frustratedly as the pink one hid behind a crate. “That’s right, Rangers! You’re mine now, just like your friend!” Spellbinder cackled looking very pleased with himself as the Black Ranger finally arrived, holding his Morpher as he stopped in front of Spellbinder.

”It’s time..” Spellbinder murmured, his feathers ruffling almost happily as he looked at the Ranger.

”What is your command?” Chase asked, not seeming to notice his friends behind him.

”Destroy her.” Spellbinder commanded, pointing towards the girl as she seems to flinch as the Black Ranger slowly turned his head.

”Wait-! No, Chase! Resist it, fight it!” Shelby said, panting slightly as she finally realized how out of breath she was, clutching the side of the crate he was next to.

”You defy my master.” Chase said in response, his eyes glowing a vivid orange as he walked closer, aiming his Morpher at Shelby. “Must obey.”

Shelby quickly swallowed the bile rising in her throat at that statement. That, would never sound right…ever. Ugh- what was with monsters and being called ‘master’? She looked over at the guys, flinching at how they were all still on the ground, clearly in pain.

She felt fear settle in her stomach, looking around frantically before spotting a wooden dolly, rushing over to grab it as she dodged a shot fired at her. She pushed it to the floor, kicking it over as it rolled, Chase luckily stepping on it as it rolled back towards her, the orange color in his eyes flickering as he balanced himself on the makeshift board.

”Destroy her! I command you!” Spellbinder yelled, as Shelby fell back into a few boxes, holding herself up while Chase simply rolled closer to her. Oh gosh…that looked so much more intimidating than Chase just walking towards her-

“What the-“ Chase muttered, the spell breaking as he clutched the edge of a barrel, leaning forward and close to Shelby as he stared at her, while she scrunched up her face in disgust.

Chase blinked before he spun the board around a few times, trying to feel like he was actually in control before stopping as he looked at Spellbinder, aiming his Morpher at the bird monster. He smirked, speaking. “Command this.” He said, shooting the pendant directly as he heard Spellbinder yell out a loud “No!”

Spellbinder was thrusted backwards, crashing through a few piles of junk as he collapsed onto the ground, gasping as the pendant was destroyed, relaxing the spell on the rest of the Rangers was destroyed.

”Good on you, Shelby. That was quick thinking.” Chase said, extending his hand as she grabbed it, pulling her up.

”Good to have you back, but never get that close to me again.” She said, walking over while Chase chuckled nervously, calling after her as he followed. “Uh- thanks…? And got it.”

He looked at the others, hearing Koda’s voice. “Where he go?”

Chase looked over, seeing Wrench get out of a pile of buckets as he ran over to Spellbinder. “You birdbrain! They’ve broken the spell, what are we gonna do now?!” Wrench yelled, slapping the monster over the head, while Spellbinder snapped his beak at him in retaliation.

”I may not be able to control them, but I’ll still destroy them, rust-bucket!” Spellbinder snapped, the two monsters ignoring the Rangers.

”Sorry, but, your time is up.” Chase said, snapping the two monsters back into reality as he spoke again. “It’s morphin’ time!” He yelled, holding out one of his Dino Chargers. He, with the rest of the Rangers, pressed down on the button on the negative side of the Charger, building the charge as they grabbed their Morphers. “Dino Charger, ready!” They yelled in sync, loading the Charger into their Morphers before shooting, morphing as they activated Dino Steal.

”I don’t like this…” Curio said as he charged with the other two, wanting to be back on the ship now.

“Time to finish you!” Wrench swung his axe, nearly hitting the Blue Ranger as he got hit with the Green Rangers weapon, before getting punched with the Blue Ranger’s.

”Riley, go now!” Koda said, moving so Riley could jump from Koda’s back.

”Got it!” Riley said, running before jumping onto Koda’s back, launching himself as he aimed his weapon at Wrench. “Raptor Slash!” He yelled, throwing Wrench back as he landed on the ground.

Curio yelped, dodging another attack from the Pink Ranger. “I wish I stayed with Poisandra!” He cried, stomping his foot as he dodged out of the way again.

Shelby jumped onto the monster’s hat, balancing on the edged of it as she spoke. “Here, up here!“ She said, unable to keep the slight laugh out of her voice, even if she tried.

”Where are you?! Where are you?!” Curio yelled, raising his hands to his hat as he tried to grab what he thought was the Pink Ranger’s feet.

”Hi! Here!” Shelby said, jumping off the monster’s hat and scaring him before aiming her drill at him. “Tricera Drill!” She yelled, swearing she thought she heard the monster say ‘ow’, though she didn’t pay attention to it as she landed on the ground, the explosion booming behind her.

”Pera Chopper!” Chase yelled, charging towards Spellbinder with Tyler, who yelled out, ”T-Rex Smasher!”

”Bring it on!” Spellbinder yelled, using his cape to block their attacks as he spun, successfully blocking on of the Black Ranger’s attacks. “Is that all you got?” He challenged, letting out a creepy crow like…laugh? Could you even call it that?

”Damnit! He keeps blocking our attacks with that cape!” Tyler said, frustrated as the rest ran up behind them. “Guys! Let’s use the Dino Spike. Kendall said we had to have all five of us together, right?” He said, looking between them as he itched to grab the Dino Spike Charger.

”I’m ready if you are.” Chase said, shrugging his shoulders in such a casual way you’d think they weren’t fighting deadly alien monsters right now.

”Yes! That’s what I like to hear!” Tyler said, grabbing the Dino Charger as he clicked the button before throwing it. “Weapons, combine!” He said, watching as their weapons combined. Shelby’s at the top, Riley’s after that, then Koda’s, then Chase’s, and finally Tyler’s.

He reached out, all of them grasping eachother’s hands before launching Tyler, shouting, “Red Ranger, launch!”

Tyler grinned under his mask, aiming the Dino Spike as he yelled out. “Dino Spike, final strike!” He threw the Dino Spike, successfully hitting Spellbinder as the monster tried to save himself, only to get destroyed as he blew up.

Tyler landed, catching the Dino Spike. “Awesome!” He said, grinning like an idiot under his mask.

Sledge slammed his fist on the side of his chair, getting up as he threw a vivix out of the way. “Out of my way!” He yelled as he slammed his fist down on the Magma Beam button. “Magma Beam!” He yelled, mostly to refrain from destroying something else.

He heard an alarm blare, and he clenched his jaw. He huffed, satisfied as he saw the blue-white beam of the Magma Beam launch down to earth.

Spellbinder laughed, snapping his beak at a passing flock of birds as he felt himself become giant.

”Oh cmon! Not again!” Tyler yelled as the Rangers ran out of the warehouse.

”I’ll handle this!” Koda said, moving forward as he went to grab one of his Dino Chargers before Chase stopped him.

”Wait. I’ve got a score to settle with this crow.” Chase said, grabbing his second Dino Charger. “Dino Charger, ready. Summon Para Zord.” He said, throwing his Dino Charger as it flew to wherever the Para Zord stayed when it wasn’t in battle.

He looked up, hearing a roar as the Para Zord spun in the air, firing at Spellbinder from its tail before it landed next to T-Rex Zord, the Raptor Zord appearing a moment later as Rexy seemed to say something to the Raptor, who roared something back.

“Gah! I almost had him!” Chase shouted, watching as Para, which he decided he would call…Blackberry, yah that sounded nice, did a backflip over Rexy.

”Chase! We summoned our Zords too! What about…we combine your Para Zord, with the Dino Charge Megazord?” Tyler asked, jumping up and down like an excited child, even if they were quite literally fighting for their lives and the city right now. “Come on! We’ll have awesome new powers!”

”Yah!” Shelby said, clearly looking excited.

”Wait. I’m not sure about this, do you guys really think we’re ready?” Riley interjected, once again being the voice of sense, which seemed almost impossible to find when Tyler was like this.

Chase sighed, feeling Tyler lean on him as he friend looked up at their Zords, clearly not going to budge from this thought. “You guys broke me out of that spell, now it’s time to return the favor.” Chase said, grinning as Tyler pumped his fist in the air.

“Yeah! Woooo!” Tyler cheered, while Riley just quietly sighed, shaking his head.

How could Tyler act like a child when they were trying not to die? Is this how Kendall felt?

“Dino Charge Megazord, Para Raptor Formation!” The three called out, watching as their Zords combined before getting teleported into the Zord’s cockpit.

”This birdbrain is in for a surprise…” Chase said, grinning as he put his Morpher into the keyhole, locking it in.

“Time to get charged up!” The three yelled in sync once again, Tyler’s voice sounded the most enthused.

”Arrow Feathers!” Spellbinder yelled, feathers shooting out from his hands while the Megazord jumped out of the way, spinning in air as it fired shots at Spellbinder, successfully hitting the monster.

“No!” Spellbinder yelled, snapping his beak angrily.

“Here’s some more!” Tyler said, while they fired a few more shots at the monster before launching the Megazord at him, jumping over Spellbinder as they launched their next attack. “Blade Raptor Slash!” They yelled in unison, hearing Spellbinder let out a pained shout.

”Let’s barbecue this chicken!” Tyler yelled, clearly running on a truck load of adrenaline.

The Zord’s left arm raised, a ball of green flames appearing before they shouted in sync. “Para Zord Fireball Finish!” As the Megazord threw the fireball, successfully destroying Spellbinder.

”Monster extinct.” Tyler said, grinning proudly.

Sledge yelled, crumbling the wanted poster for Spellbinder as he threw it on the floor, stomping on it. “Ugh! I could’ve gotten 20,000 space bullion for Spellbinder! What a waste.” He grunted, looking over at Wrench, who was sorting through what remained of the monster.

”Wait…stop.” He said, walking over as he stares at the pendant Spellbinder stole, seeing a faint purple glow coming off of it. “Maybe it’s not a total loss.” He said, grabbing the pendant.

”Hmm…” He grunted, inspecting the pendant as Wrench leaned closer.

“Could he have survived?” The rust-bucket asked, looking at Sledge with a maybe hopeful look.

“Doubt that.” Sledge snapped, holding the pendant.” “But…there might still be some magic left in it. Might come in handy someday, save it.” Sledge finished, shoving it into Wrench’s hands before walking away.

“Yes, Master Sledge.” Wrench said, nodding as he looked at the pendant.

”I’m sorry about all the trouble I’ve caused you. Telling the future can be a messy business.” Moana said, chuckling as she looked at Chase.

”No worries. At least I proved to everyone I can focus, am I right?” Chase said, trying to joke as he chuckled with Moana before sighing as she hugged him.

He pulled away from the hug, watching as Moana left.

Koda came up behind him, pulling the cleaning cart with him. “Uh, today your day, uh- focus, clean museum floors.” Koda said, handing him the broom with a suspiciously sheepish smile.

”I’ll do it. Last time he cleaned the floors, he left half-way through.” Shelby said, grabbing the mop out of Koda’s hands as she walked past, rolling her eyes.

”Hey! There was a rugby match!” Chase defended himself, grabbing the broom back from him as he walked out of the cafe, huffing. “And don’t worry guys, because I’ve got a plan.” He said, grabbing his skateboard as he grinned. “No more distractions.” He said, putting the board down as he put his headphones on, getting on started mopping.

Tyler chuckled, watching as Chase skated off. “Looks like he, uh, definitely figured out a way to concentrate.” He said, jumping slightly as he heard Laioth’s voice, the still tired alien leaning against Riley.

”About damn time. His concentration is as bad as his fashion sense.” Laioth grumbled, his eyes closed as Riley rolled his eyes, not bothering to push the alien away. He and the others had grown used to it whenever he was like this.

Shelby snorted, looking away before staring at the schedule sheet in Koda’s hand, grabbing it. “Wait a second. Koda, it’s your day to mop the floors.” She said, putting a finger under Koda’s name as she looked at him.

”Oh- I…maybe he need, uh- concentrate on schedule to.” Koda said, grabbing the clipboard back as he hid it behind his back.

The others laughed, unable to hide their amusement, though Laioth was already about to fall asleep again.

Maybe he shouldn’t have stayed up so late again…eh, whatever. He’ll be fine.

He watched as Chase continued to mop for a few seconds before just falling asleep, an unfortunate habit he had picked up after being in solitary for so long as he fell down on the floor, oblivious to the Ranger’s concerned and thrown off reactions.
