Chapter 1: an unexpected guest

Chapter Text

The sky was a mix of light gray and blue as you made your way towards your apartment. It was a nice day outside, not too hot and a warm breeze would pick up now then. It did little however, to brighten up your mood. You were going back to your apartment because you forgot your wallet and you had to do some grocery shopping and have even more chores to do. You clicked your toungue, ignoring the stares from the other passerbies. You kept muttering until you reached your home, only you hadn't expected someone to be in front of your door. Moreover someone who was covered in cuts and bruises.

You stood still for a moment, feeling a slight chill on your spine and instantly perking up with alertness. It wasnt long before you relaxed, noticing the familiar blue hoodie, sleeves tucked near the elbow and the seq- oh wait, he wasn't wearing any sequin pants to your surprise. But anyway his clothes were far from the point of the subject.

You narrowed your eyes and blinked. 'What the hell is Karamatsu doing here? '

What made you even more confused was how the usually confident man looked so... sad. He was staring at your door, shoulders slumped and eyes seemingly to be in deep thought mixed with doubt. Something clicked in your mind and you walked toward him.

You silently tapped his shoulder with your hand and whispered, "Ka-ra-ma-tsu. "

"Aaagh!" He jumped, usual deep voice cracking as he jerked his face towards you. "(N-name)!"

Karamatsu desperately tried to put his cool guy mask back on. "W-w-what are you doing h-here? "and seemingly out of nowhere, he pulled out his shades and covered his eyes, starting to ramble about how much of a beautiful day it was and how the wheels of fate have brought the two of you together and a bunch of other stuff you didn't understand.

You sighed, still feeling a bit edgy, "Cut the shit Karamatsu."

That got his attention, his body quickly stiffened and his smirk faltering. You quietly walked past him to your door and unlocked it, opening it and turned your head back towards the now silent blue clad man.

"Well? Aren't you coming in? "

"Wh-? Oh! Yes, my, the gods have truly smiled upon me with your grateful actions! I-"

"Kara.Go in. We talk. Let's get this over with. "

"R-right." his voice was small now, and for a second your face twisted into one who might call guilt. He already looked grim earlier, maybe you should've have been more gentle with him. Karamatsu noticed this however and quickly smirked at you, as if there was nothing to worry about.

As if he wasn't covered with injuries.

As if he didn't look like someone who's life was a whole disappointment to him.

Well maybe it was, he was just too stubborn to admit it.

Once you entered and closed the door behind you, you awkwardly rubbed the back of your head. You didn't really think about on what to do once he was inside.

"Uhm, go take a seat at the couch, I'll try to look if I have some stuff to take care of.. " your voice trailed off, your hand gesturing at his bruises. "Ill go prepare some tea too."

This time, Karamatsu just nodded, his hands tucked in his hoodie pockets. He slowly made his way toward your living room as you frowned at him. After a few seconds you went towards the bathroom and opened the cabinet. There was some cotton swabs and cotton balls and thankfully a bottle of alcohol and some kind of antibiotic ointment. Carefully taking them you went back to your guest.

As you got there, Karamatsu greeted you with a smirk and 'heh'd'. You rolled your eyes, shoving a pillow at his face by the couch and placed the medical equipment at the small table in front of him.

"So!" you huffed, placing your two hands on your hips "I'll go prepare the tea while you clean up, just call if you need help kay?"

He placed his fingers under his chin and closed his eyes in a rather dramatic way, "Heh, of coarse my dear, you shouldn't have me keep you waiting, I truly am blessed today by the heavens and the path of.... oh. "

You were actually already making tea, letting Karamatsu do his job and you doing your own. As you idly stirred the two drinks, your thoughts went toward your bond with Karamatsu.

You honestly couldn't believe that you had such a guy as a friend. One simple accident with him falling off the bridge was all that happened and before you knew it you took him to your apartment. You didn't mind his rather interesting fashion choices and the way he verbally express himself with dramatic flares and his rather painful, as one would call it, attitude. Karamatsu was very nice though, you would think he was only acting but the way he would get flustered and cry at the slightest compliment you gave him you'd rather think not. And if you were really honest, you'd admit that him being with you actually made you feel relaxed. The way you two talked would put you in a good mood, the stories you'd tell each other and the times when you two hung out. Public images weren't your biggest concern so you never cared if people thought that Karamatsu was embarrassing you, it would piss you off though. The way they would insult him behind your backs and the way his smile would waver and the slightest tint of water would prick at the corners of his eyes. You wanted to punch them so bad. But Karamatsu would assure you one way or another that he was fine and you would always let him. Seriously, what would it take for a guy to have some friends that would understand him. He even let you know about his problems and insecurities a few weeks before, making you to want to punch the people who caused them even more. You held it in though, knowing Karamatsu, he would likely appreciate that. But you were also quite happy that he trusted you enough now to even open up about his problems.

You released a breath you didn't know you were holding until now and took a glance at the clock, it was already 11:46 am.

"Might as well eat out." silently murmuring, you furrowed your brows a bit and went to your fridge, grabbing a pack of ice and the two drinks you went back to Karamatsu.

You stopped when you saw him in his slightly slouched position, he was tending to some cuts on his left arm but you knew by the look in his eyes that he was in his own little world.

You sighed for the second time today. 'Work can wait for another time.'
