Work Text:
“Geeta, love, what were you thinking for dinner?” Rika asked ducking her head through the doorway of Geeta’s office. “Poppy wants spaghetti for the third night in a row, but I don’t think I could possibly take another night of it.”
Geeta barely looked up from her work, but Rika knew she had her wife’s attention.
“That’s something you’re going to have to take up with our little Glimmet. Perhaps we order out tonight? I’m not in the mood to make anything.” Geeta mumbled, her remarking pulling a genuine laugh from Rika as she fully entered the room.
“You never cook, you dork. That’s my job. Last time you tried you nearly burned down the kitchen.” Rika teased as she approached her wife.
Geeta finally set down her papers and turned to face Rika with her goofy smile. As Rika admired her wife up close something odd caught her eye, causing her smile to falter. A part of Geeta’s dark hair seemed to be wiggling.
A flash of concern graced Geeta’s features as she registered Rika’s confusion.
“Don’t move.” Rika breathed as she reached her gloved hand toward the moving locks as the other hand gripped Geeta’s chin to hold her in place. As her fingers disappeared she felt something squirm.
“THERE’S SOMETHING IN YOUR HAIR!” Rika shrieked in genuine surprise, yanking her hand back. The look of fear in Geeta’s eyes was enough to make her bravely reach back in and grasp the squirming creature. In a fluid motion she withdrew her hand and tossed whatever she was holding away. To her surprise the thing she threw began to float up into the air and start zooming around in a confused panic.
“It’s a Glimmet!” Geeta exclaimed in genuine surprise.
“How did that get in there?” Rika chuckled.
“I don’t have the slightest clue. I’ve been inside all day.”
The girls shares a small laugh over the whole incident as Rika shewed it out the window.
Later that night Geeta had pretty much forgotten about her stow-away incident. Her new focused was getting her toddler to eat something for dinner.
“I want spaghetti.” Poppy whined.
“Please, Kiddo. Mama can’t take another night of that. Mommy said we can get take out.” Rika tried to persuade.
“Really?! Mommy we can get take out?!” Poppy looked wide-eyed at Geeta for confirmation.
“Yes really. We deserve an easy night after all the hard work we’ve done lately.” Geeta smiled as the little family walked out of the league headquarters.
They laughed and talked about their day as they walked into town to find food. Poppy playfully ran ahead by a few feet as Rika and Geeta walked behind her hand in hand.
Rika found her gaze drifting from her daughter to love of her life. But the moment of peace was interrupted. Geeta’s hair was wiggling again!
“No way!” Rika gasped causing Geeta to jump slightly at the sudden noise. “You have something in your hair again!” Rika quickly combed her fingers through Geeta’s hair to flush out the invasive creature. Sure enough, another Glimmet came tumbling out and scampered away.
“Did a Pokémon just fall out of Mommy’s hair?” Poppy giggled. “That’s so silly!”
“This is so odd that it would happen twice in one day.” Geeta murmured to herself as she raked her gloved fingers through her hair.
But once again the little family brushed it off and went and found their dinner and brought it home.
As they sat at their kitchen table, happily eating their food Poppy noticed more Glimmets wriggling in her mommy’s hair. They’d dart out to snag food when no adults were looking and it would send Poppy into a roaring fit of laughter. Finally Rika caught on to what was causing their daughters mirth.
“Arceus, Geeta there’s more of them! When was the last time you brushed your hair?” Rika said snagging the little intruder out of the air and tossing it out the open window.
“This morning. I honestly have no idea where they’re coming from.”
“Come here.” Rika motioned for Geeta to stand up as she walked onto the porch. “Bend down a bit.” She guided her wife to bend over slightly as she flipped her hair to hang down. Quickly Rika removed her gloves and set them on the patio table. Poppy looked on curiously from the door way.
“Imma shake out your hair, okay love? Just try and keep steady.”
Geeta nodded and adjusted her stance as she felt Rika’s fingers intertwine with her hair. As gently as she could, Rika shook out her wife’s hair.
“Wow!” Poppy clapped, running out to join her parents, as at least six Glimmets made their escape.
“There we go. You should be pest free now.” Rika smiled as she helped her wife right herself.
“I feel bad though. I never noticed they were there using my hair as a home and I really didn’t mind. Now where will they go?”
“Mommas look!” Poppy shrieked excitedly, pointing toward the edge of their yard.
A wild Glimmora hovered just in the shadows the little Glimmets eagerly swarming her.
“I think they’re going to be just fine.” Rika reassured her.
“They must have thought I was a Glimmora when I was out on that field trip!”
“No! That my mommy. Shoo shoo!” Poppy whined waving her hands at the Pokémon. The Pokémon family floated away into the night.
“You never fail to surprise me, love.” Rika chuckled rubbing Geeta’s back.
“I honestly seem to surprise myself at times.” Geeta blushed, leaning slightly against Rika.
Poppy bounded back up on to the patio. She had shoved flowers into her short black hair and a large smile was plastered on her face. “Look, I’m just like mommy with friends in my hair.”
“Yes you are squirt, yes you are.” Rika tussled Poppy’s hair with a smile.
