Chapter Text
We Got This Wrong
Willow Rosenberg was a High School student at Sunnydale High, an overachiever, a great friend to Buffy Summers (the resident Vampire Slayer) and she was a budding young witch!
Today she was taking a shortcut through the cemetery to get home. Yes, it was a cliché horror trope. She knew the risks. She just didn’t expect THAT vampire to show up!
“Evening, gorgeous! Out for a night-time stroll?”
Willow gasped and fumbled for the crossbow in her backpack. Only in America, right? “Leave me alone, Spike!”
The bleach-blond punkish vampire called Spike casually walked adjacent from her, pace perfectly matched. “Is that a crossbow in your hand or are you just excited to see me?”
She stepped back. This was bad. “J-Just let me go home and I won’t hurt you!”
A soft cackle and Spike was suddenly behind her, causing her to instinctively bear her neck to him as he reached around and claimed the crossbow for himself. His fangs were out. She was the prey.
Willow elbowed him in the ribs and ran as fast as she could. Her new cellphone rang in her pocket. “BUFFY! Help! I’m in the cemetery! I--!”
Pain.
Oh no.
She collapsed onto the grass and burst into tears. A bolt had pierced her shoulder. This was bad!
Spike leered over her. “Inviting Buffy? Kinky! Adding Slayer to the menu will be a fine dessert.”
His gloating was ended by another bolt whizzing past his ear. Spike ducked. “Hey! Watch it!”
“Get away from her!” It was Mr. Giles! The school librarian and Buffy’s Watcher.
Giles managed to fend off the vampire and hurried to tend to Willow’s injury. “Willow, I didn’t realise you were patrolling tonight. You shouldn’t go alone.” He found the phone and reassured Buffy that he would get her friend to the hospital. He ended the call and called an ambulance.
Willow sobbed a thank you.
Giles waited for the ambulance with her.
That was a close call.
“I got it all wrong.” Willow sobbed. She attempted some humour. “I had m-my crossbow to stake a vampire. I-Instead, I got s-staked.”
Giles smiled at her wryly. “Yes, it appears that way. You’re safe now. I’ll protect you. Buffy will visit you in the hospital.”
“O-Okay. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Help is on the way.”
