Chapter Text

Hey guys, my name is Bailey Briggs, but you can refer to me as Spider-Boy.

I'm not exactly related to Spider-Man himself or any of his amazing friends, but I've been quite a fan of them for some time, as far as I could even remember. While they may be cool and spectacular, with all the flying, swinging, web-slinging, and kicking the butt of injustice, what really captivates kids like me about them are their strong will, good teamwork, sense of humility, and decision to mutually aid others in need.

With great power, there might also come great possibilities, I'll just have to see and find out...

...It all started, for me at least, on a mostly nice and normal morning in the weekend. Having already kicked myself out of bed, scrubbed my teeth, got myself dressed, and munched up my breakfast, I prepared myself for yet another normal day. At least, as normal as a world populated by countless super-powered people can be.

I walked along down the street, carrying a small rucksack with one hand and a skateboard with the other, while listening to some nice old-skool rock music on my Osberry. Soon enough, I made my way to the local park nearby from home, complete with many things like swings, see-saws, roundabouts, and even a few open courts to play sports in.

"Hi, Bailey," a familiar voice called my name.

I turned my head to see who exactly it was, and that would be my bestest best friend, Ben Simmons. "Hey, Ben," I replied with a wave.

"How you doing, man?" He asked.

"Good and well," I answered with a smile almost as bright as the sun.

"You hear the latest about the local Spider-Heroes?" He asked me.

"As in Spider-Woman, Spider-UK, and Spider-Punk?" I pretty much knew right away who he was referring. "What happened lately this time?"

"Some team of baddies were gonna bomb the Big Ben clock tower, but those plans were thwarted," Ben explained away with excitement in his voice. "The Spider-Heroes saved the day by using the bells' vibrations to backfire against the villains".

"I can imagine," I openly admitted, picturing what such a fight would've been like. Probably nowhere near as cool and awesome as what might've actually happened, but hey, I like to dream and imagine.

"You should've been there to see and believe it".

"Have you been there?" I asked back.

"I mean I wasn't really there myself either," Ben shrugged. "But I saw it on telly. At least as much as they could show".

"Of course," I nodded.

"Don't you ever wish you could have superpowers?" He asked me.

The moment that question came out, seeming from nowhere, I took a little while to think about. "I dunno," I lightly shrugged. "May depend on what kind of power it is, and how I'd get such".

"You think it might be possible?"

"Maybe, and even then, I would still wanna do good and help out other people".

"Anyone can," Ben patted my shoulder. "With or without superpowers".

"Sure..." I agreed with another nod. "Anyway, let's go to play some football". I changed the subject and smiled.

However, little did I know at the time, something much bigger would be coming, and I was tempting fate itself...

Out in the middle of a fresh green park under a mostly bright day, with a particular city just close enough in the horizon, a lone kite of green and yellow flew wild and free in the wind. Keeping the kite stable and about was a lone human with short blond hair while wearing a white undershirt vest, black tights, and a bright purple open shirt over it.

They held the reel loose yet tightly enough to keep a good enough grip of the kite. A small hint of a smile crossed their face and a light enough breeze blew on by. However, along with the wind came something rather unnatural, a large cloud of dull-green mist rolling over the countryside and closing in. Only when the sun was briefly blocked out did the person snap away from the brief moment of peace and tranquility, as they turned to see the fog heading over their way.

Eyes widened and mouth slightly gaped open, the person hastily rolled back down the long string holding the kite itself, struggling as the wind soon started to blow hard against it. They already knew well that while they're fighting the kite and wind, time itself was wasting away as that green misty fog drew even closer. As soon as the kite was rolled in enough, the person now made a break for it and dashed off as far and fast as humanly possible.

But as fast as the person may be, the dense fog somewhere remained faster still, as it soon caught up and completely enveloped and covered the person entirely, tripping down and losing grip of the kite. While nothing could be seen at all, strange croaking sounds could be heard from within. Soon enough after a while, the dense mist carried on, onward, and away. And in the person's place, where they once last stood, ran, and tripped over, now stood a large fresh pulsing chrysalis of bright green surrounded by a few bits of ripped clothing and skin.
