Chapter Text
They fall in a nice routine. Jason makes breakfast which they eat together, then they each do their own thing, and Arlo has taken the freedom to go a few times to the park to play with the dogs there.
They eat lunch together and afterwards go to watch a movie or just chill with a book. Dinner and Jason goes on patrol.
And slowly Arlo feels at home and with the normal food intake, also stronger. That's when he asks after a week at breakfast a question.
"Jason, will you teach me how to handle weapons?"
"You're not looking to become a superhero, are you?" He responses with suspicious look.
"No thank you, but we live in Gotham, you know the most dangerous city in America" he replies sarcastically, "I'm not looking to get killed again anytime soon"
Jason laughs at that. "You have a good point, we can start this afternoon"
That's how they ended on top of their building again. To his left there is a small pile of weapons and Jason is standing opposite of him. He first wanted to see how good he is with hand-to-hand combat.
"Let's see what you got, kid" Jason smirks.
Jason stands relaxed waiting for him to attack. So Arlo decides to throw a punch with a bit of force.
And hits Jason in the stomach who makes an ‘oofh’ sound and slightly bends over, he seems surprised at the force behind the punch. Oh shit, wasn't he supposed to do that, was it with too much force. He wasn't meant to hurt him.
Jason sees the panic om Arlo's face and quickly assures him that's it alright.
"Shouldn't have assumed you didn't know a thing or two. Taking you escaped a highly secured laboratory" Jason says now taking on a fighting stand. The next punch he sees coming and deflects.
They use hand to hand combat for a while, but after Jason realised that he knew a few fighting styles of his own they went to weapons.
"First rule of any weapon. Only point it at anything you intend to harm, maim and/or kill" Jason says handing him a gun, barrel down.
Arlo takes it carefully, he wasn't trained in any use of firearms.
After Jason explained the way he was supposed to use it and what he should expect he points at a target.
"Shoot"
Arlo points the gun at the target and does as told.
He hits it! It might be just the edge but he hit it! He turns to Jason with the biggest smile on his face.
"I hit it!" He says enthusiastic. Jason looks just as happy as he is.
"You did, I’m proud of you!" He says with a smile.
He's proud, he's proud, he's proud of him.
He laughs and for the first time in a long time he is truly happy.
