Chapter 1: slaves of the feast

Chapter Text

December 5th 1832, It was dark and cold evening in mid-December and Cossette was embarrassed. That night she had determined to celebrate the fresh snow with a fest. She had been planning this for mouths but now that she was here well all she wanted to be anywhere else. Why? For two reasons, she was out of her depth and Marius had refused to attend calming a head ack. She had decided to begin in the undertaking to bring Marius back to her. he had ben distance obsessed with some prepose. She had wanted to bring him back to earth. He had ben tender to her loving but since he had recovered from his injuries, he had been different. Now Cossette is sitting on the head of the table alone picking at her food. The women around her were talking about dresses and gossip but Cossette has not gossip to share and every time she tried to comment upon fashion, she was unable to please the other. The thing is she should be able to please women she has one in her bedroom, Marius. Cossette knows he is in sists on her and everyone referring to him as a man but she knew the truth the waste coat there is a pair of firm breasts. Cossette blushes thinking of how she had fondled them but, sadness crunched her lust. ‘She must have experienced something terrible to make her deny that she is a woman. If I was open with my love of women, would I have to hide like her, so hidden that not even I will admit I am a woman? Never mind I will make her comfortable enough to come out of her sheal.’ Thought Cossette.

As Cossette fumbles her way throw an explanation of how pink ribbons were a much better fit for her Bonnette then a black one like, madame Comvert suggested, the dinner was cleared away and the desert was brought on. “You see pink matches the rosses on the side here. do you see.” Explains Cossette. “But the black makes them stand out more.” Says Comvert. M. Comvert was her next-door neighbor so there for well acquainted with Cossette’s lack of knowledge on the goings on in society. “My daring you have got to git that over worked husband of you to take you to the louvre. There you will see how lovely contrast can appear on a pallet such as yours. Gist makes sure he does not speed to much time on the nudes.” Says m. Comvert with a wink. There were nudes Cossette was going to have to see them. perhaps she would even have to go to the art auction and git one to hang on her wall. “I will have to consider your proposition madame but, my Marius is a very busy man. His work as a lawyer keeps him occupied all time and when he is home he must do his research. How ever will shall I tear him from his work? it is very important you know. he is bringing criminals to justice.” Complains Cossette. “Oh, dear there is power a woman has. You will think of something.” Says m. Comvert. but the truth was lawyering was only half of It when he got done, he would work on his project as he called It., he would not even tell her what it was. how was she supposed to git around that. He, or rather as Cossette thought it, she, seemed so determined. Like Marius life hinged on the completion of it. Cossette could almost not bare to take him away from it.

madame Comvert noticing Cossette silence continued “a woman ought to have power over he owns home. that Is one power a woman has left after her marriage. It is unacceptable to go out on our own the vary poor do it. but we are ladies which mean we need escort. If we cannot git our husbands to come with us. Why were practically prisoners of the home. that revolution ought to have done something about that.” Here madame Comvert paused in her ramble lost in some great emotion. “Poor dears, did even stand a chance, not a single survivor, Girls and children to you know.” madame Comvert fell silent. Cosette was silent to. Marius had survived but he was the only one. He had once told her of his friends. He often swore that one of his friends a girl would be one of her closest friends if she had lived. Cossette had told him that she would have raised the urchin Gavroche who had died. That seemed to comfort him. sense both of them were female they are unable to have a child of their own. Cossette desired to lighten the mood. This was her party, and she was going to have fun. She and Comvert spent the rest of the evening conversing about the upcoming opera session. Madame Comvert was a woman of remarkable contrast. She has a round voluptuous fame with the palest skin and dark eyes and hair. at the end of the night Comvert was collected by her imposing husband. How escorted her home. with left Cossette to put away the dishes on her own.
