Work Text:
Ilsa hasn’t ever really believed in ESP, not ever…. Still, she has to admit she finds a strange sense of peace when Mae drops into her life. Finding her just on time to save her life, it was something close to ESP, even if it made no sense.
She’s quiet as she turns the boat throttle all the way up, the boat almost skipping over the waves even as she looks back at the thin, trembling girl staring at her, waiting for the question.
“How did….”
“Must be ESP or something…. What’s your name?”
“Mae….”
“Ilsa…”
Ilsa smiles even as she turns the boat through the maze of rivers and pulls up to a second boat, moving to scoop the girl into her arms and deposit her on the bed below deck before nodding to the men waiting.
“Let’s go…”
Mae trembles as she moves closer and Ilsa feels her pulse race under her fingers before sighing and moving to scoop the, thankfully un-swallowed, pills from the girl’s mouth moving to a window to throw them out.
“That’s enough of those for you… now… Mae… care to explain?”
Days later, Mae’s slim body pressed into her side, Ilsa will bring the girl home with her, sheltering the shivering girl as she works her way through the needed rehabilitation stages, cradling her close when the girl needs her most.
They look, to people who don’t know them, like sisters…. But the truth is far more muddled. Ilsa, somewhere along the way, falls for Mae and swears she will find a way home to her, always.
