Love Stinks

Summary:

A marriage of convenience? Who are you two idiots trying to fool?

Work Text:

"Love stinks, Man." Dean collapsed into the seat Castiel saved for him at their favorite table at The Roadhouse. Sam , Jess, Charlie, Gilda, Gabriel and Kali were already there.

"What's eating you now, Dean?" Sam reached for a nacho from the platter in the center of the table.

Dean helped himself to a loaded chip before he answered. "I've decided that I'm done with dating. I tried it, it didn't work out, I'm done!"

Jess looked at Dean as he signaled for a beer. "What exactly do do you mean by done?"

"I mean I've deleted the apps and I'm not trolling any more bars. I. Am. Done. Love just isn't for me."

"Dean, you shouldn't give up on finding your person. Just because you've been unlucky in love doesn't mean they aren't out there. " Gilda reached across the table to grab an onion ring.

"I have a person. Ain't that right, Cas? I can always count on you. "

"Thank you , Dean. I know I can rely on you as well."

Sam huffed out a breath. "This isn't still about Lisa is it?"

"In a way. Lisa. Cassie. Lydia. Bela. I thought I'd found the one in each of them. And look at me! Still alone. Bela wiped my bank account. Lydia tried to pass off some other dudes kid as mine. Cassie was too wrapped up in her career.

"But Lisa really hurt. I'm ready to settle down. I thought she and Ben were going to be my family. But then Ben's sperm donor comes back to town and I'm out like yesterday's news."

"Nope. I am over it. I can't do it anymore."

Gabriel laughed. "Dean Winchester going celibate? This I've got to see!"

Jo brought Dean his beer. "What's this about Dean and celibacy?"

Dean looked a little troubled at the work celibate, but he shook his head. "Doesn't matter. I'll make do with the five knuckle shuffle. It's better than chasing what I'll never find."

Dean looked at his best friend . "You know what I'm saying, right Cas? I mean you've had just as much bad luck as I have. Meg, April, Hannah. They all did you wrong and then left you high and dry.

"What we should do is marry each other. We've been best friends since high school. You've never let me down Cas. Not once. "

Castiel tilted his head to the side. "I have been thinking about starting a family. I thought Daphne was going too be it, but she just sort of vanished."

"Getting ghosted is the worst!" Charlie agreed with Cas.

Dean looked at Cas with a serious expression on his face. "I mean it , Cas. Let's get married. You and me could build a pretty good life. Best friends is a pretty good start."

Castiel looked thoughtful. "I have recently looked into adoption. A single man isn't as desired as a married couple by prospective birth mothers."

"And out combined incomes would look better at the bank. We could get a mortgage on a house with a yard and a garage for Baby."

Gabriel cleared his throat. "You two idiots are planning a celibate marriage over there?"

"It needn't be. " Castiel said. "I'm given to understand that two men can have a very pleasurable sexual experience."

Dean's eyebrows rose almost to his hairline. "What he said." Dean said with a smirk.

Sam gave his brother a disbelieving look. "You shouldn't joke about this, Dean." He looked at Jess. He's joking, right?"

Gabriel laughed again. "I don't think he is, Sambo! I think you brother just proposed to mine!"

"Dean! You are talking like a crazy person!" Sam looked around the table. "Doesn't anyone else hear how crazy this sounds?"

Charlie shook with excitement. "Sorry , Sam! All I hear is Big Gay Wedding."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! " Dean said. "No one said anything about being gay."

"Pretty sure you did." Kali said, sipping wine.

"I heard it, too." Gilda said. "Having sex with people of the same gender is the actual definition of gay."

Jess nodded. "I mean, gay or not, if you guys get married, everyone will assume you're gay. Or Bi at least."

Dean drank down his beer, and signaled Jo for another. Then he shrugged. "Who cares. Me and Cas will be living our best life and everyone can think whatever they want."

Gabriel grabbed a chicken wing. "So, how are ya'll doing this? Gonna shake some sheets and try this thing out, or just get married and hope everything works out."

Kali slapped at Gabriel . "Don't be crass."

"I'm just being real. These two idiots are talking about playing hide the salami like it's no big deal. I think it's kind of a big deal."

Castiel looked bashful. "I like the idea of making our wedding night special."

"Of for God's sake! " Sam threw his hands up. "What are you going to tell Bobby and Ellen? And your parents Cas! What will Chuck and Naomi think about this hair brained scheme?"

"Tell me about what?" Ellen put a hand on the back of Dean's chair. She put a platter of mini cheeseburgers in front of him. "Here you go, Sugar. Made these special for you."

"Thanks, Ellen. " Dean grabbed a couple of the sliders.

"Tell her your good news, Dean."

Dean looked up at the woman who'd practically raised him. "Me and Cas are going to get married." He said around a mouthful of beef and cheese.

Ellen had had enough practice understanding Dean when he talked with his mouth full to know what he'd said. She looked between the two men.

"You boys have always been close, but I didn't know you'd been dating . "

"We haven't ." Castiel explained. "We've just decided to get married. We want to start a family."

Ellen looked a little bewildered . "You want to start a family ? Give me grandbabies?"

"That's the plan." Dean said, grabbing another slider.

Jess patted Sam's hand. "I think you just lost Ellen , Babe."

Sam sighed. " I give up."

"Might as well. " Kali laughed. "That's the exact look Naomi Novak will get when she hears, and Chuck will fall in with whatever Naomi says."

"Dean, you've come up with you fair share of hair brained schemes, but this one takes the cake" ********************************************************

"Dean, you're really going through with this?" Sam had pulled his brother off to the side as they started up the steps of the courthouse, both wearing their Sunday best suits.

"Sammy! I swear to God! I'm about to go in here and marry my best friend . Be happy for me, or go home."

"I just don't want you to do something you're going to regret later. "

"This is probably the best idea I've ever had, Sammy. I'm going to make you an uncle!"

Sam took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Ok, let's do this."

********************************************************

Inside the courthouse, Cas, Gabriel, Bobby , Ellen, Naomi, Chuck, Charlie, Kali, Jess and Gilda were waiting in the lobby. Charlie rushed up to Dean with a boutonniere for his lapel. Dean smelled the rose after Charlie pinned it on.

Walking over to where Cas stood with his brother and parents, Dean grinned and slapped Castiel on the shoulder. "You still up for this , Buddy?"

"Of course, Dean. Your plan is the best course of action if we want to be fathers. Which I very much do. "

"Alright! Let's do this!"

************************************************

They filled out paperwork, Castiel deciding to take the Winchester name, they paid their fee, and now all that was left was to go before the judge.

Judge Zachariah Adler didn't look thrilled to be joining two men in Holy Matrimony , but it was the law and his job so he did.

"By the power vested in me by the state of Kansas, I now pronounce you married. You may now kiss your husband , " he managed to say, looking only slightly disgusted.

Dean looked at Cas. To be honest, he'd forgotten that he would have to kiss Cas for the first time in front of everyone . He leaned in for a quick peck, but the instant their lips met, Dean felt electricity jumping between them. Dean put his arms around Cas' and pulled him in tight, deepening the kiss. When several people, including the judge cleared their throats, they broke apart with wondering looks on their face.

Charlie squeeed and jumped up and down. Gilda took her girlfriend's hand. "Calm down. You've seen your gay wedding. We have to head over to The Roadhouse and get things set up for your gay reception."

Ellen and Naomi fussed over the newly married couple, and they snapped a few pictures, but soon Dean and Cas were left alone at the courthouse.

"How long are we supposed to wait before we head to The Roadhouse?" Dean asked.

"Ellen and Charlie wanted an hour to set things up."Castiel told him . "I told them this wasn't really necessary."

"Charlie's loving it. Let her have her fun. " Dean started walking to the Impala, and Cas sat in the shotgun position. "What are we supposed to do for an hour?" Dean wondered aloud.

"I don't know Dean. Wait here, I guess?"

Dean waggled his eyebrows at Cas. "Or we could go park somewhere and fool around. That was some kiss in the courthouse, huh?"

Castiel looked bashful. "I did find the kiss stimulating."

"I know, right? I know you said we would have sex, but I'm really looking forward to it now."

"Dean ." Cas blushed and looked out the window. "Have you been with a man before?"

"No." Dean admitted , "But I've seen porn. I know how it works. Basically."

Castiel nodded. "I guess we could kiss some more."

Dean grinned. "Yeah we can. But not here. I know a place."

************************************************

Dean killed the engine at a popular make out spot. They sat silently for a few minutes.

"This is a little awkward." Castiel said.

"Maybe. But we're married now. Married people kiss.Come here, Cas ."

They slid toward each other, and after a few false starts they found each other's lips. The electricity was still there, and they were soon pushing suit jackets off and loosening ties.

"Dean, everyone's going to be waiting for us."

"Let them." Dean pushed Cas back until he was practically laying down. They kept making out, clothes getting more and more disheveled as they both got more and more turned on.

"Dean, your phone is ringing."

"Fuck," Dean sat up and grabbed his phone. "What?"

"People are wondering where you and Cas are." Sam said.

"We'll be there in a minute." Dean looked over at Cas. "Dude , you look like you just got fucked."

"So do you , Dean. I told you we needed to stop."

"Yeah, yeah. You're nagging already. Is that what married life is going to be like?"

Cas rolled his eyes.

************************************************

"Where the Hell have you two been?" Sam was waiting outside when the Impala pulled up.

"Doing married people stuff. We lost track of time. *******************************************************

The Roadhouse was full of all Dean and Cas' family and friends. Charlie got carried away with the decorating, and it looked a little like a rainbow threw up. She was bouncing up and down when Dean and Cas walked in."You couldn't wait until after the reception?" She winked at them.

"We had some time to kill. " Dean grabbed Cas around the waist and pulled him close to his side.

Sam and Jess walked over. "Congratulations!" Jess said, hugging both men in turn. Sam was still wearing a little bit of a bitch face , but Dean grabbed the beers he held out for him and Cas.

"Thank you, Sam . " Cas said quietly.

Dean looked at his brand new husband. Husband! He knew why Sam was hesitant to embrace this idea, but Dean couldn't feel anything but optimistic when he looked at Cas. Yeah, he hadn't put a lot of thought into this marriage, but he still thought this could wind up being the best idea he'd ever had.

Cas looked over at Dean. Dean pressed a kiss to his lips. "Thank you for marrying me Cas. "

"Of course, Dean."

************************************************

It wasn't a fancy reception, but Ellen had prepared all of Dean's favorite appetizers and Charlie and Gilda had a baker friend make a small rainbow wedding cake. Dean was usually more of a pie guy, but the cake was really good.

"Did you notice Benny and Garth huddled up in the corner? " Charlie asked Dean and Cas. ''

Dean looked around until he saw his two friends with their heads close together . He raised his eyebrows at Cas.

Charlie squeeed . "I love the friends to lovers trope!"

"Speaking of lovers," Dean said. "It's my wedding night. Me and Cas gotta go."

Cas turned beet red. "Dean , don't be rude. Our friends and family went to a lot of trouble. "

"It was no trouble, Cas . " Ellen said "We were happy to do this for you and Dean. "

Dean got up and hugged his "mom". Ellen had stepped in after he lost his mom to a fire and his dad to the bottle a few years later. Bobby and Ellen took Dean and Sam in so they never knew the horrors of the foster care system.

"Thanks, Ellen. You and Bobby have always been there for me and Sam. "

"And me," Cas added.

"You are family. Family don't end in blood." Bobby said.

"Cas and I can't wait to add to the family."

"We're pretty excited for that too. " Naomi said. " I thought Gabriel and Kali might have news by now."

Gabriel looked horrified. Kali on slightly less so. "We are still enjoying being newlyweds. " Gabriel said.

"Speaking of newlyweds." Dean said.

"Oh my God! Just go! " Sam said.

Castiel blushed again, but followed his husband to the car.

************************************************

Since the wedding came together so quickly, Dean and Cas had a lot of big decisions to make. For one, they had to decide where to live.

"Where are we spending tonight?" Dean asked as he cranked the Impala.

"I bought some supplies for tonight. They're at my apartment."

"Okay, your apartment tonight, but you are planning to move in with me, right?"

"It makes the most since. You own your house. I know you mentioned house hunting, but your house is perfect. I think we'll be fine there, at least for a while."

Dean like that. He loved his little house. It wasn't to small. It had three bedrooms. He was using one room as a home gym, but there was plenty of room for any kids he and Cas could adopt.

************************************************

Dean made the short drive to Cas' apartment in record time, but as they walked up the three flights of stairs, awkwardness began to creep back in.

Castiel could see that Dean was a little uncomfortable. "You know , Dean , nothing has to happen tonight. We don't have to have sex just because we got married."

Disappointment crossed Dean's face. "You don't want to have sex?"

"It's not that Dean. It's just that there's no rush. We can take our time. So, how about we just get ready for bed, and just let things progress naturally."

Dean nodded. "You are so smart, Cas. I'm really glad I married you." They shared a sweet kiss and then headed down the hall to the bedroom.

"Do you want to borrow some pajamas?" Cas asked.

"Nah. I'm fine in my boxers. You probably don't need pajamas tonight either. "

"I don't ?"

Dean shook his head. "PJ's might get in the way of natural progression. " Dean took a few steps into Cas' personal space. "Let's get ready for bed. " Dean gave Cas teasing little kisses.

They both stripped down to their boxer briefs and Castiel pulled back the covers. They slid beneath the sheets and lay down next to each other.

"I have a confession to make Dean."

"How can we have any secrets after all this time?"

"Because I've never told you this. I didn't want it to hurt our friendship."

"You can tell me anything, Cas. You know that."

Castiel took a big breath.. "It's only that I've always found you very attractive. You're a beautiful man. I've always thought so , but I know that's not really what one man tells another. I've suspected I might not be 100% straight. But I was never attracted to any other man the way I am to you. So I didn't see a reason to say anything."

Dean looked into Cas' earnest blue eyes.. Anyone could see that Cas was a handsome man. You didn't have to be gay to acknowledge a fine looking man when you saw one. And Cas was definitely a beautiful man.

A look of wonder crossed Dean's face. "I'm attracted to you , too. "

They slid together, fusing their bodies at the lips and hips. Dean pushed a thigh between Cas' legs, feeling the thickness of the other man's erection.

Dean pushed over so that Cas was on his back. Using his mouth, Dean explored what felt like miles of Castiel's firm, naked flesh. Licking his nipples, then blowing on them so they pebbled, causing Cas to groan and throw his head back.

Dean put his lips on that long throat that was bared to him. Cas had his hands all over Dean's back , letting them slide down to cup his ass.

"Cas. Let's loose the boxers. I want to see you. Maybe taste you."

Cas lifted his hips and Dean stripped the boxer briefs off. "I know you said you bought condoms, but I'm clean. Lisa wasn't exactly faithful, so I got myself a clean bill of health to be on the safe side."

"I'm clean too. Just had my annual checkup."

"Then yeah. Definitely taste. " Dean slid his body down Castiel's . There was a small part of his brain that was freaking out that he was about to put his lips around a dick. Dean's own dick was currently running the show, however, and it was so up for it.

"Dean!" Cas thrust his hip up as his erection was engulfed in the warm heat of Dean's mouth.

"Sorry, sorry." Cas tried so hard to keep still.

"I'm not. " Dean looked up at Cas through his lashes. "You taste fucking amazing. " Dean dropped his mouth back to the task at hand. Licking, and sucking up and down Cas' dick, front and back, careful not to neglect the balls. This might be the first blow job Dean ever gave, but he'd been on the receiving end of a few. He knew what he liked. Given the litany of swear words and Dean's name coming out of Cas' mouth, Dean was doing a pretty decent job.

Dean felt Cas' hand grasping for purchase in his hair. "Dean, I'm close." He moaned. Dean really wanted to feel Cas erupt down his throat, but he also wasn't ready for this to be over, so he pulled off with a pop.

Dean crawled up to lay half on Castiel's chest, wriggling out of his own briefs on the way. Dean's own firm length was laying very close to Castiel's. Moving his hips just a bit, he was able to bring them into contact.

Cas hissed like he'd been burned . "Dean, I want this to be good for you, but I'm afraid I can't last."

Dean helped Cas roll so they were facing each other again. "Where's the lube , Cas?"

"Drawer, your side." Cas panted.

Dean stretched to reach for the purple capped bottle, then scooted close so he could line his erection up with Castiel's. Taking them both in hand, Dean drizzled lube over them both. "Help me Cas. I can't get my hand around both of us."

Cas joined his hand around both of their slick lengths. "Dean, I'm so close."

"Me too." They moved their hands up and down in a rapid rhythm. Just a few strokes had Cas' climax all over him, had Dean following close behind.

They lay together panting and coming back down to earth. "OK, " Dean said after a bit. "That's messy."

Cas laughed. Reaching beside the bed, he grabbed a towel he'd put there earlier. "I did a little research."

Dean laughed.as he wiped them clean. "Of course you did."

************************************************

"Cas! " Dean growled. "I'm gonna blow."

Cas looked up from where he was kneeling in front of Dean in the shower. "I thought that's what I was doing." He quipped, then put his mouth back to work. A few minutes more and Dean was coming with the force of a fire hose. Cas tried to swallow it all, but a few drops escaped. Cas stood up, wiping those few stray drops away with his thumb, then popping that thumb in his mouth.

"That is so fucking hot!" Dean said, as he engulfed Castiel's mouth with his own.

************************************************

"Dean, that's ...uhg...right there." Dean's fingers were working over Castiel's prostate, and soon he was screaming out a climax." Castiel fell to the bed.

"Jesus , Dean! Where'd you learn to do that?"

"Porn."

***********************************************

The sun was shining in his eyes when Cas rolled over and reached for Dean. The other side of the bed was empty. "Dean!"

"Good morning, Sunshine!" Dean said, coming back through the door. He extended a mug of coffee to Cas. "I don't think I realized how many coffee mugs you have with bees on them."

Castiel sat up and took the mug of coffee. "You didn't get anymore sleep than I did. How are you so perky?"

"Just comes naturally." Dean winked at his husband and perched on the edge of the bed. "Man! Can you believe that we're married?"

"It's still a little shocking,"

"Yeah. And, Cas, man, I got to say it. The sex? I'm wondering why we didn't try that years ago.And we haven't even rounded fifth base yet."

Cas blushed into his coffee mug. "I thought we'd ease into that?"

"Pun intended?" Dean asked with an eyebrow waggle. Dean pressed his lips to the side of Cas' neck. "You're right though. No need to rush. We gonna rock, paper, scissors for who bottoms first?"

"Are you sure that's how you want to decide?" Cas asked with a head tilt.

"Ha Ha." Dean nudged Cas with his shoulder. "Since i'm wearing your underwear this morning, I think we need to look into getting you moved."

"I was thinking after breakfast I'd pack up a few essentials, then this weekend I'll come back and start packing everything up."

"We'll come back this weekend. I've already got bacon in the oven. You want pancakes or an omelet?"

"I love your pancakes."

Dean gave Cas' a quick kiss. "Get a shower, and I'll have a short stack waiting for you when you get out."

"Careful, Dean. You'll spoil me."

"Hurry up. The sooner we get you moved, the sooner we can get back to doing what newlyweds do." Another eyebrow waggle and a hip shake and Dean was headed back to the kitchen , leaving his husband chuckling on the bed.

***********************************************

"You need to stop throwing scissors."

"Fuck. From where I'm sitting , " Dean panted, "I think I might have won this one. " Dean rocked back on his husbands fingers as he opened him up, brushing over his prostate just enought to keep Dean's dick in the game.

"I think I could take another finger." Dean wiggled his ass, rocking back again.

"So impatient, " Cas said under his breath, brow furrowed in concentration as he added more lube and a third digit.

Dean grunted, but kept chasing them everytime Cas pulled his fingers out. Cas put a hand on Dean's back. He worked Dean until he was sure he could take his girth without pain.

"Cas! Come on!"

"So impatient," Cas repeated as he lubed himself up and then lined himself up at the entrance to Dean's tight channel. Slowly, a few centimeters at a time, Castiel pushed himself inside Dean.

It took an eon, or at least it seemed that way to Dean, but finally he could feel Cas' balls pressed against his ass. "Fuck me , Cas! You won't break me."

Cas smoothed his hands over Dean's ass to grab hold of his hips. He pulled almost all the way out, then snapped his hips back to nail Dean's prostate. Dean let out a yell that made Cas glad they didn't try this at his apartment. The neighbors definitely would have called the landlord.

Cas settled into a rhythm of rolling and snapping his hips. Dean was whimpering and calling Cas' name. When Cas felt the tell tale tingling and tightening that signaled his end was near, he reached around and took Dean in his hand matching his strokes to the rhythm of his thrusts. Soon, Dean was spurting ropes of cum and tightening down around Cas, which was all it took for Cas to finish.

They collapsed onto the bed together. Dean winced a little when Cas slipped out of him. "I'm gonna feel that tomorrow." Dean said into the pillow.

Cas put a hand on Dean's back. "I wasn't too rough, was I?"

Dean flipped over and winced again. "I liked it, Cas. A lot."

"I'm anxious for my turn."

"If I was a younger man, I'd give you your turn right now."

************************************************

"Do you want to watch the video again?"

"No, I know how I want to do this." Cas flopped onto his belly . "You prep me, the I'm going to ride you."

"You make it sound so sexy." Dean snarked as he positioned himself between Cas' legs. "I want to try something." Dean took both hands and pushed Cas' ass cheeks out of the way, then he licked a broad stripe over his hole with the flat of his tongue.

Castiel yelled and tried to come off the bed, but Dean had him more or less pinned. "I didn't ... What...Dean!"

"Liked that, did ya?" Dean chuckled, then dove back in. Dean didn't imagine he'd ever want to try rimming someone, but he'd discovered a lot of things about himself over the past two days.

Dean used his tongue and fingers to prepare Cas. "Dean, I'm ready."

"So impatient," Dean mocked. He gave the three fingers he had in Cas' ass a few more twists. He pulled them out and wiped his hand on the sheet. "I think you're ready."

Dean sprawled out on the bed, lubing his shaft up. Cas crawled over to straddle Dean. "It isn't nice to tease people Dean. " Cas lined himself up and sunk to the hilt, causing them both to cry out.

Dean ran his hands up Cas to toy with his nipples. Cas put his hands on Dean's thighs for leverage as he worked himself on Dean's dick. "This won't take long." Dean grunted.

"No, it will not," Cas said , panting between each word.

Dean reached for Cas' erection, slipping up and down as Cas exerted himself. He finally got his fingers around him, just as Cas screamed his name and shot thick ropes of cum over Dean's chest and belly." Dean followed soon after and filled Cas full.

Cas slumped onto Dean's chest. He tried to roll off once he caught his breath, but Dean brought his hands up to hold him in place.

"I'm too heavy , Dean!" Cas complained as Dean slipped free of him.

"Shhhh, Angel. Light as a feather."

Castiel waited until Dean fell asleep, then rolled off. He pressed a kiss to Dean's forehead. He didn't question Dean's reasons for marrying him, but Castiel knew that whatever he'd said, he'd only had one reason for agreeing. He wondered what would happen when he confessed that reason to Dean.

************************************************

"Cas, I'm starving, but I'm too tired to cook. Pizza?"

"Whatever you want. I'm taking a nap."

***********************************************

"Pizza's here, Cas."

Cas sat up in bed, yawning. Dean handed him a beer and tossed the pizza box on the bed. "Really, Dean?"

"What? People eat breakfast in bed.We can't eat dinner in bed?"

"We've hardly left this bed all day."

"Cas, now that I've got you and this pizza in this bed, everything I need is right here."

**********************************************

Cas woke up Sunday morning with Dean wrapped around him like an octopus. It took some work, but Cas finally managed to extract himself without waking Dean.

He grabbed a quick shower, then set coffee on to brew. He walked to the little kitchen table by the window overlooking Dean's backyard with his mug of coffee once it brewed . Cas supposed it was his backyard now too.

Dean staggered to the coffee maker and poured himself a cup. He pressed a kiss to the side of Cas neck, then perched on the chair next to him. "Good morning, Sunshine. " Dean mumbled.

"Good morning, Dean." Cas took another sip of coffee and looked back out the window.

They sat in silence, drinking their coffee and waking up. "Cas?" Dean finally asked.

"Yes, Dean?"

"I'm glad we got married. We should have done this years ago.

Cas smiled into his coffee mug.

***********************************************

"Missed you and Cas at dinner last night." Bobby said gruffly as he riffled through the papers on his desk.

Dean blushed. " We were coming, but then we got a little distracted."

Bobby laughed."I'll bet. Ellen understood, but she ain't liable to excuse you two Sundays in a row"

"Message received. Cas and I will definitely be there this weekend."

Bobby chuckled."It may have been a little while, but I remember what it's like to be a newlywed. I'm glad to see you so happy, Boy."

Dean grinned. "I really am happy." He said with a tone of wonder in his voice. "Bobby, you ever been sure you knew something, only to find out you were completely wrong?"

"Time or two." Bobby smirked . "What you wrong about?"

"When I told Cas we should get married, I thought I was through with love. " Dean shook his head. "All those relationships that crashed and burned. Maybe it's been Cas all along. "

<*************************************************

Castiel was pulling something from the oven when Dean walked in from work that evening. "Man! Does it smell good in here!"

Cas placed the pie on the trivet by the stove. "Hello, Dean."

Dean came and wrapped his arms around Cas' waist. "I missed you today." The two men shared a gentle kiss. "It sure is nice to come home and find someone waiting. And dinner too. You didn't have to cook. I thought we'd cook together."

"Somedays we will, but I wanted tonight to be special. "

"Well it can't be our anniversary, and it's not my birthday. What's the special occasion?"

Cas plated up the steak and potatoes he'd made for dinner. Putting the plates on the table, he gestured for Dean to sit. "I have something I want to tell you, and I wanted us to have a nice meal first."

Dean sat down, watching Cas warily as he opened a beer for each of them.

"You're freaking me out a little , Cas ."

"It's nothing bad. At least, I think it's a good thing." Cas sat down. "Just something I think you should know. And this is the first time you're coming home from work to your husband. I want it to feel like a special occasion"

"I see you made pie. And this dinner looks amazing. And as long as you tell me its nothing bad, then I'm all good."

Cas smiled at his husband and they tucked into their dinner. It wasn't long before Cas was serving up two big slices of apple pie a la mode.

Dean sat back after he'd polished off his pie. "So good, Babe.Thank you ."

Cas smiled and cleared their plates. He took Dean's hand and led him to the sofa.

"Dean, I admitted that I've been attracted to you for a while. But, I have one more confession to make, and I hope you're ok with it."

Dean held onto Cas' hand and looked into his blue eyes. "Cas. What is it? Just tell me."

"I'm in love with you Dean. I know it's odd to be married already, a professing my love, and I know you aren't ready to love me back, but I wanted you to know why I said yes. I do want to start a family, and I was looking into adopting by myself. But I married you because I love you, Dean."

Dean sat there stunned for a moment. He couldn't believe what Cas was saying. "You love me?" He asked in disbelief .

"I do." Cas said simply. "But this doesn't have to change anything."

Dean looked at Cas, his green eyes glowing with wonder. "Are you kidding me , Cas? This changes everything!"

Dean pushed Cas back and straddled his lap, raining kisses down on his face. "Fuck , Cas! I love you too! I was telling myself that I wanted to marry my best friend because love stinks, but I've been in love with you this whole time. And you love me too!"

Dean kissed Cas with his whole being. Drawing away, Dean smiled down at Cas. "This is awesome!" They crashed their lips back together.

***********************************************

They were on the floor in front of the sofa, coffee table knocked out of the way. Their clothes thrown everywhere, they lay in a sweaty, messy tangle of limbs."You are so fucking good at this."

Cas chuckled. "I've thought about this a lot, Dean."

"Well, you should have clued me in sooner. We've been missing out!"

Cas chuckled again.

************************************************

"What time is everyone coming over tomorrow?" Dean asked Cas . They were spending Friday night at Cas' apartment to get things ready for the move. Currently they were boxing up the books from Castiel's office.

"Garth and Benny are gonna take Sam by to pick up the moving truck. They open at 9 , so I figure they'll be here a little after that. "

"Was Sam cool when you talked to him? He didn't give you any crap about our marriage ,did he?"

"He was find, Dean.Your brother loves you. He just wants you to be happy. He'll come around."

"Well, he'd better do it quick." Dean kissed Cas, taking the box he'd just taped closed. He really needs to get used to us. "

"He will, Dean."

************************************************

Boxes were stacked all over the apartment like a giant Jenga maze. Cas had just finished cleaning out the fridge, and came to lay down beside Dean.

"Well, I guess that about wraps it up until Sam gets here with the truck. "

Dean rolled over onto his side, propping up on his elbow. "So, what do you say we bid a fond farewell to this apartment. " Dean asked with an lascivious grin.

**********************************************

"Jesus, I'm coming. Stop pounding on the door." Dean was pulling on a T-shirt as he opened the door. Sam , Benny and Garth stood in the hall. Benny and Garth both wore knowing smirks, but Sam was wearing what Dean called bitch face #3.

"Dean, we came to help Cas move, and we've been waiting for you for thirty minutes!"

"Sam, I'm sorry. We were up late packing and we overslept."

"Packing , huh?" Garth asked. "That's what the kids are calling it these days?"

Dean flushed. "Shut up, Garth!"

"Let's just get started. I don't want this to take all day." Sam groused.

Dean was about to tell his brother to shove it, when Cas walked into the room, wearing jeans and Dean's favorite Zeppelin t-shirt . "I really appreciate you guys helping us out this morning. I think everything is ready to go. I know Dean has burgers ready to go on the grill at our house , so I'm anxious to get this chore done too, Sam."

"I love your burgers, Brother," Benny said, slapping Dean on the back. "Let's do this . What's the plan?"

Dean looked around. "We've got to break down the bed and the bedroom furniture. The office furniture is coming , but Cas' landlord bought the sofa and living room stuff, lamps and all. Just the boxes are coming from in here."

"We'll load the furniture first, then all the boxes. This should take long." Garth said.

It wasn't a small job, but five strong men made short work of it. By lunch time, they were unloading the truck at Dean and Cas' house. Once the last of the boxes was out of the truck, Dean went to the backyard to fire up the grill.

Cas went into the kitchen. He took out a head of cabbage and started grating it. "I thought I'd make some coleslaw to go with the burgers. Please make yourselves at home. Dean's got plenty of beer in the fridge. Sam stood back and watched his brother in law. Cas looked very at home in Dean's kitchen, but then , he always had. Cas was making a dressing for the slaw. "Sam," he called, "Dean's got the burgers all pattied up and ready to go. Do you mind taking them out to him? " Castiel held a saran wrapped platter out to the taller man, Sam took the platter. "Uhm...yeah. Sure thing Cas." ****************************************************** Dean looked up as his brother stepped on to the brick patio where his grill lived. "I was just about to come for those. Thanks Sammy. " Dean slapped the burgers onto the grill, then turned to his outdoor sink to rinse his hand. "These won't take too long. Maybe just long enough for you to tell me what's got you ass up on your shoulders lately." Sam sighed and ran his hand through what his brother thought was overly long hair. "I bought Jessica a ring. I've been thinking about popping the question for a while now. But then the next thing I know, you and Cas are getting married. It's like some big joke! You woke up one morning after thirty years of being straight and decide you're gay! Now you and Cas are just this perfect couple, that can't keep your hands off each other! Jess will laugh at me if I ask her to marry me now! You've made a mockery of the whole institution of marriage !" "Ok, wait just a damn minute!" Dean flipped the burgers, then poked a finger in his little brothers chest. "Number one, me marrying Cas is NOT a joke! I'm sorry if me not agonizing over a decision is a problem for you, and I've only just realized that I'm probably the luckiest son of a bitch on the planet, because Cas loves me, and isn't holding the crappy way I proposed against me. Jess loves you too, Sam, so just nut up and give the girl the ring!"

Dean took a clean platter from Castiel , who had quietly walked up while the brothers were talking. "Also, I'm pretty sure I'm bi, not gay. But that doesn't really matter, because Cas is it for me."

Cas put a hand on Dean 's chest and gave him a gentle kiss. "Come on. Those burgers smell really good."

They walked slowly back inside . Benny and Garth jumped apart when the other three men came back in. "Hey, Brother! Those burgers smell amazing. " Benny said.

Dean put the burgers on the table where Cas had everything else ready and waiting. "Everyone dig in." He said. Dean let Sam sit at the head of the table, so he and Cas could take one side , Benny and Garth the other. Dean was happiest when his table was full like this.

Benny and Garth scarfed their burgers and slaw down in record time. "We hate to eat and run, but Garth and I have an early morning tomorrow ." Benny said, taking his empty plate to the sink

"Yeah," Garth seconded. "Got a lot to do. We better get going."

Dean looked at Cas after his friends left. "That was weird, right? Tomorrow's Sunday. What could they be getting up so early for?"

Cas smiled and shrugged.

The three men finished their meal, then worked together to clear and clean up. When the kitchen was put to rights, Sam started to make his goodbyes.

"Sam, " Cas began quietly , "before you go, I just want to say that I'm sorry if Dean and I getting married has made things difficult for you. I've been in love with your brother almost since I first met him, and I took advantage of his impetuous nature to get what I've always wanted. I didn't stop to think that it might affect anyone else."

"But I really don't think you need to worry about Jess turning you down when you propose. That girl looks at you like you hung the moon. Just ask her Sam."

Sam looked bashful. "Ah, Cas. I've been a dick. I knew how you felt about my brother. And I really am happy you and Dean seem so..happy. I guess I'm just nervous, man."

"Don't be nervous, Sam. Just ask her. I'm sure she'll say yes."

**********************************************

Cas lay down beside Dean. "I am so glad to be all moved in!"

"Yeah. " Dean said.

Cas looked at his husband. Is everything alright, Dean?"

"Cas, I'm so sorry. I don't deserve you."

"Dean, I'm so tired. Can we do this in the morning?"

"I'm serious Cas! You deserved to be proposed to! And you should have had the wedding of your dreams!"

"Who says I didn't?"

"Come on, Man! The courthouse? We could have at least done it somewhere nicer. We don't even have rings.

Cas sat up against the headboard. "Now, it is. " He sighed, and held out his hand until Dean entwined their fingers.

"I never spent a lot of time thinking about a dream wedding. A wedding at all really. I've thought about being married though. What happily ever after might look like. A dream life, if you will? The details are always changing. Where I live. How many kids. But for last dozen or so years, one thing about the dream has remained the same. You , Dean Winchester are the only partner I want in this life."

Dean pressed his lips to Castiel's . "God , I am such a lucky son of a bitch." Dean said when they pulled apart. "But we are going ring shopping in the morning."

**********************************************

"Well, well, well! Look what the cat dragged in." Ellen said, wrapping Dean and then Cas in a tight squeeze. "Married life must agree with you."

"From what I hear they've hardly come up for air since the wedding. " Jo said teasingly from the sofa. Dean pushed the back of her head playfully. "Hey! " she complained.

"I'm gonna remember all the teasing when you get married JoAnna Beth!"

"You'll be remembering a long time!"

Jess and Sam arrived soon after Dean and Cas.Jess was beaming ear to ear. "Oh! My! God! What's that on your finger?" Jo exclaimed.

Jess held up her hand for everyone to see. "We're getting married!"

Hugs were exchanged as well as congratulations. Dean clapped his brother on the back. "We all good now, Sammy?"

"Yeah, Dean. We're fine. I was letting my nerves get the better of me. And maybe the jealousy, too! You managed to get yourself happily married without any of the stress of popping the question!"

"Trust me, Sammy . I know how lucky I am. It could have blown up in my face. I could have lost Cas forever."

The Winchester boys looked over to where Cas was admiring Jess' new ring. Jess grabbed Cas' hand too. They were laughing and smiling together. "Yeah, Sammy . We are both lucky sons of bitches."

**********************************************

They had a great time at the family dinner, but Dean wasn't exactly sad to head home that evening. Being with the whole family was great, but nothing beat being alone with Cas.

Dean Winchester didn't want it to get out, but cuddling with his husband was his favorite thing. "Cas, you should have told me we were in love years ago. We've missed out on a ton of cuddles."

Cas sighed and wrapped his arms more securely around Dean." I think things worked out just like they needed to. I was barely able to wrap my mind around the way you made me feel when we met. I think we were meant to be best friends first."

"I know you're right. I just can't help but feel like we wasted time."

"People always talk about making up for lost time. I've never really known what that means. We can't go back and change anything. All we can do is make the most of the time we have."

Dean twisted. His neck around for a kiss. "How the fuck did I know realize that I was in love with you?"

************************************************

"Have you given any thoughts to how we want to start our family?"

Dean smiled at his husband over his coffee mug. "It's really a shame we can't make a baby the old fashioned way. One of us would surely be pregnant by now if we could." Dean waggled his eyebrows.

Castiel smirked. "That truly is a shame. You'd look beautiful swollen with our child."

Dean laughed. "Ok, so option one is out. That leaves surrogacy and adoption."

Castiel nodded. "Both options are expensive. Although, I have a good bit of savings. I was saving for a house as well as family planning. "

"And you don't need a house anymore. I don't have a tong of savings, but I do have some. I'd want to contribute too."

"I've always favored adoption. There are a lot of kids that need a good home. I like the idea of fostering to adopt. But it's risky. We could fall in love with a child, only to have to give them back."

Dean put his coffee mug down. "This is gonna be a huge decision."

"It is. One we might need help making."

************************************************

Charlie and Gilda refilled the wine glasses for Dean and Cas. The pair of couples had enjoyed light conversation over dinner. Charlie, Dean and Cas had been friends for so long and Gilda fit in like she'd always been one of them. As they cleared the table and took their wine to the living room, the tone of the room turned serious.

Charlie locked eyes with her wife. "Gilda and I were really glad to get your call, Dean. We'd wanted to invite you both for dinner, but we know how it is with newlyweds."

Dean and Cas blushed. "I have a smoking hot husband." Dean said. "It's hard to find a good reason to leave the house. But there is something Cas and I have been talking about and we wondered if you two had been thinking about it too."

"Of course, Dean. You know we're always here for you."

Dean took Cas' hand. "So , you know Cas was talking about starting a family before we got married. But we've gotten kind of overwhelmed by exactly how we want to try to do that."

Cas nodded. "We thought it might help to talk this out with someone who might be starting to think about the same thing."

Gilda looked at Charlie before she spoke. "We have been thinking about wanting to start a family too. In fact, Charlie and I had wanted to ask to you Dean."

"Me? What about?"

Charlie looked at her friend. "Dean, you know that I'm as gay as you can get, and even I can appreciate that humans don't really come any more attractive than you."

"Charlie," Dean murmured, blushing. "Come on."

Cas laughed. "He is a beautiful specimen."

Dean shook his head. "Ok, everyone just shut up."

"We know it's kind of a big ask, but we're hoping you would consider donating some genetic material for us."

Dean looked at Cas. "It's your decision, Dean."

"Charlie, you know I'd do anything for you."

Charlie wrapped her arms around Dean. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Charlie sat back. "And of course, we're willing to do the same for you."

"Surrogacy is something we've considered." Cas said quietly. "We've thought about adoption too, though."

Gilda shared a look again with her wife."We've decided that I will carry for us. But Charlie and I both got checked out by the doctors, and either of us could carry."

"If we got lucky, Gilda and I could be pregnant together." Charlie said."I'd be proud to help you and Cas start your family, Dean."

The two men looked at one another. "You've certainly given us something to think about. Can we let you know in a few days?"

"Of course!" Gilda said. "It's a lot to think about. Charlie and I are a little ahead of you guys on this. Take some time and talk it over."

***********************************************

In bed that night, Cas fell down the Google rabbit hole, reading adoption horror stories. Surrogacy was pretty scary too, but many of the perils seem to stem from finding the surrogate. They wouldn't have that problem.

"I can hear you thinking over there, Angel." Dean rubbed circles on Castiel's back.

"I'm just debating adopting versus surrogacy. The offer that Gilda and Charlie made is so generous. I'm just worried that it might blur the boundaries with us being such good friends."

"Are you ok with me helping them conceive? I was quick to say yes, but I don't want you to be uncomfortable."

"I'm not sure, Dean. How are you going to feel knowing you fathered a child, but that child isn't yours?"

Dean was quiet for a long moment. "Charlie and Gilda will be amazing parents. I think I'll be okay being Uncle Dean. Especially once we have our own kids."

Castiel took his husband's hand. "I think I'd like to try surrogacy. I never thought that a biological child would be possible when I was considering being a single parent."

"Well, you won't be a single anything from now on. We're in this together."

 ************************************************/p>

3 Years later

Dean stood behind his husband , his arms wrapped around him, his head resting on his shoulder. "They are all partied out, huh?"

Cas smiled at his husband and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Turning one is hard work. " Castiel turned into Dean's embrace. "Can you believe our babies are a year old?"

"No! Seems like just yesterday they were still in Charlie's belly."

They grabbed the baby monitor and headed for the living room. They sank down on the sofa together. "We should really be cleaning."

"No. We should sit here and reflect on the first year of the twins lives."

Cas smiled indulgently at Dean. "I suppose this mess can wait til morning."

There hadn't been much time for cuddling together on the sofa over the last year. People will tell you twins are twice the work, but they don't know the half of it. Sleepless nights and endless bottles and diaper changes. Endless loads of laundry. The hard work was all worth it though when those babies looked at their fathers with their big blue eyes and said. "DaDa."

"We can never repay Charlie for the gift she gave us. "

The surrogacy couldn't be said to have gone off without a hitch. Their first attempts didn't take, for Gilda or Charlie. They decided to try two embryos each the next time. To double the chances that one would stick. To everyone's surprise, all four embryos stuck! Charlie and Gilda had planned to be pregnant together, but twins made for an extra challenge.

Dean and Cas spent a lot of time on craving runs. A lot of time. Charlie couldn't get enough nougat. For Gilda, it was pickled everything. It was hard to watch as she powered through jars of pickled eggs and pig's feet.

Dean and Cas basically lived with Charlie and Gilda during the last trimester . Which was a pretty good thing, since neither woman could rise from a chair unaided and had to pee every five minutes.

Charlie and Gilda had essentially the same due date, but Gilda went into labor ten days early and Charlie was five days late.

Gilda fought hard, but when it came to names, Charlie won the war and their twins were christened Luke and Leia Bradbury. Dean let Castiel have his way and their twins were named Jack and Claire Winchester.

The first few months were chaos. Cas worked from home, but with infants in the house, working from home was impossible. Dean came home one evening and found his babies and husband all in tears.

"Why did I think I could do this?" Cas wailed. "I haven't showered today, Dean. I don't know why they won't stop crying. They've eaten , they've had fresh diapers."

Dean took the babies from Cas'. I want you to go get a shower. I got this for a while. And we'll make a plan. We're in this together, Babe."

Cas had a shower and when he came back, both babies were sleeping on Dean's chest.

"I don't know wether I love you or hate you right now."

"You did the heavy lifting on this one. They finally cried themselves out."

Castiel sat gently beside Dean and the babies. "Dean, I'm in way over my head here. I thought I was ready to be a parent, but this is so much harder than I thought it would be."

"So I'm gonna jiggle things around at work. The shop's doing well enough they can do without me a couple more days a week. And I'll bet Ellen will help out , too."

Cas leaned against Dean's side, careful not to jostle the twins. "We don't have to figure this all out tonight. Rest, Baby, you'll feel better after a nap."

That day was about as bad as it got. Castiel and Dean worked out a plan for Dean to take more of the childcare load, and Ellen kept the babies one night a week, so Dean and Cas could have a date night. Or sometimes just a nap.

That first year was full of tears, but laughter and love too. Watching the twins grow and develop into little people. At a year old, they were starting to walk and talk. They laughed and smiled. Their father's could hardly get enough of their smiles and laughter.

"Having everyone here for their birthday was great, " Dean said, " But I am exhausted."

"Yes. It's a good thing birthdays come once a year. We should just about have this place back together in time for their second birthday."

"Oh, no! They're second birthday party will be at Chuck E . Cheese's . Someone else can clean up that mess. Can you just imagine?"

"I can."

Castiel stood up. "Those two will be ready to go again before we know it. We should sleep." He extended a hand to his husband.

Dean took the hand Cas held out to him and stood up. He pulled Cas' in, so their bodies were flush together. The two men shared a tender kiss.

"Thank you , Cas. Thank you for loving me and saying yes when I proposed in the dumbest way possible. "

"Thank you , Dean. You have given me the life I always dreamed of. All those years I was content being your friend. If that was all we could ever be, it would have been enough. But then you said you wanted to marry me, and start a family with me. How could I say anything but yes to that?"

"I was an idiot, Cas. I think I've always loved you. How could I not have known?"

Castiel pressed his lips to Dean's . "It felt like my love for you was self evident. It felt like I did a very poor job of keeping it secret. I am so grateful that I never have to say that's just my friend. You are my friend. You are my love. You are the father of my children."

Dean smiled. "Unh Unh Unh. What am I Cas?"

Castiel shook his head. "You're my baby daddy, Dean. "

"Damn right I am!"

Dean kissed his husband once more. "Come on, Sunshine. I need to make love to my husband and get some sleep before Jack and Claire get their second wind. "

"I think I'm amenable to this plan."
