Work Text:
Tim is sitting on the bench in the locker room, needing a minute after today. He knows he pushed Lucy too far today but he had to see where her head was at. Tim finally finds the courage to walk out and he decides that he will go talk to Lucy. He’s in the lobby when he sees Chris and Lucy talking outside. A knot forms in his stomach.
Lucy looks up and sees Tim staring at them. Her face gets a weird look and before Tim can comprehend what’s happening, Lucy’s down on one knee in the damn parking lot.
Tim’s jaw drops and he has to fight everything in him to go out there. He wants to cry, he wants to plead with her not to, but instead he stands there staring at the sight in front of him.
“Wow I didn’t think Lucy would ever propose especially to this asshat.” Angela is by his side and Tim loves his friend, but he just can’t handle her comments right now.
“Umm, whatever makes her happy.” Tim stands there awkwardly when they see Chris with a weird look on his face. Tim can’t do this right now. He is pissed he didn’t park in the garage today, but he would rather walk than deal with seeing them together. He turns and walks away, not wanting to see any more of this.
Angela goes after him. “Tim-”
“I can’t Ange! Okay. I lost the one person I love tonight. I just can’t.” Angela feels terrible because she knows that Tim has feelings for Lucy.
Angela pulls him in for a hug. “You need to go talk to her. Lucy is not happy with him. I don’t care what just happened. Don’t let her get away and marry that fucking idiot.”
Tim pulls away and looks at her. “I don’t..Ange.”
“Stop making excuses. Go get your girl. I swear Tim, go.” Tim’s phone goes off just as Angela walks away.
From Lucy:
Gotcha! 🤭
Tim’s face drops and he’s in shock. This was a prank? After tonight, he won’t let her get away. His heart is still beating out of his chest thinking she would marry that. Tim drives to Lucy’s apartment and doesn’t even think about what would happen if Chris was there. He takes the stairs two at a time before he’s at Lucy’s door. Tim didn’t think he would get himself this far. Now that he’s here, he is nervous. What if she doesn’t feel the same? What if I ruin us? Dammit Tim what are you doing? Tim’s hand is knocking on her door anyways. His hands are clammy and he is nervous.
Lucy opens and smiles softly when she sees his face. “Hey.”
“Um, can we…can we please talk?” Tim hates how much his voice cracks. Lucy stands there and looks at his face. She can see he’s tense and nervous.
“Of course. Come inside.” Tim moves into her apartment. He stands there awkwardly. “So?” Lucy’s head cocks to the side as she waits for Tim to speak. She is curious as to what this could be about.
“Do you really want to marry him?” It’s the first thing Tim blurts out and he instantly regrets it. He closes his eyes and Lucy’s got an amused look on her face when he finally opens them.
“Honestly, I wasn’t sure. Before today, I was ready to settle with Chris, which is stupid.”
“And now?” Tim asks softly.
Lucy lets a soft hum. “I’m not sure. Do I have a reason not to?”
Tim knows he has to be honest. It scares him, but he’s going to be honest and see what happens. “I don’t know. Do you?”
“I’m not sure.” Lucy’s eyes are twinkling.
Tim grips the edge of her kitchen counter. Get the words out Tim. “Don’t marry him. Lucy, you aren’t happy with Chris, are you?”
Lucy taps the counter. “I’m not fully happy but maybe one day I could be.”
“Please don’t marry him. Please don’t stay with him. Please give me a chance. I thought I lost you today and I was ready to go drown my sorrows. I would have left Los Angeles because I can’t watch you marry anyone else. It hurts me too much. I know I pushed you today, but I had to know if you were truly happy. I can see that you aren’t Lucy. You are amazing and I don’t think that my feelings are one sided.” It’s the most Tim’s spoken to her…pretty much ever.
“Chris is not who I want. I’ve stayed in this relationship because it’s safe. I don’t even like him that much.” Tim has to bite back a laugh.
“Please Lucy, give me a chance. I know I’m not the easiest person to be around but you’re everything to me. I said yes to a date with a freaking lifeguard because I was scared. My feelings for you are strong.” Tim knows that Lucy is nervous, but he needs her like he needs air to breathe.
“Tim, if we do this and it doesn’t work, I’ll have ruined the most important relationship in my life.” Lucy looks into his eyes and continues. “Is it worth that risk?”
“Lucy, it is. You are worth it. I’ll give my job up for you. I don’t want to spend another minute without you. Watching you fake propose almost killed me. I can’t lose you.”
“You won’t Tim.” Lucy grabs his hands. “I was working up the courage to come to you tonight.”
Tim looks down at her. “Break up with Chris. Be with me, please. Let me love you.”
Lucy smirks and grabs her phone just as there’s a knock on the door. She walks over and through the peephole sees Chris standing outside the door.
“It’s Chris.” Tim shrugs and stands there, refusing to move and he doesn’t really care what Chris has to say.
Lucy opens it slowly, but doesn’t let him in. “What do you want, Chris?”
“I wanted to apologize. I know I shouldn’t have done what I’ve done, but I care about you.”
Lucy pinched the bridge of her nose. “We’re done Chris. I’m sorry about tonight, but it opened my eyes about a lot. I don’t want you.” Chris huffs out.
“Lucy, please.”
“No Chris. I don’t love you, I never have. Please just go away. You don’t like my job, you don’t respect me, and you can’t get me off, ever.” Tim’s jaw drops and he has to stop himself from coughing.
Tim isn’t trying to be quiet and Lucy doesn’t care if Chris knows he’s there. “It’s him isn’t it?” Chris sees Tim standing in the kitchen. “I knew it.”
Lucy puts her hand up and dares him to continue. “Honestly, yes, he’s the one I want Chris. I have not acted on anything and if you think otherwise you’re a moron. Now I’m breaking up with you and I’m going to be happy.” Chris scoffs.
“What does he have that I don’t?”
Lucy is done with words and goes to Tim. She pulls him down and kisses him hard. Chris’ jaw drops and Tim’s brain is broken. She pulls away and Tim can see she is seething. “Everything. What does he have? He has love, he cares, he is everything you’re not, and I know that he will actually take care of me when we have sex. Have you seen his fingers? Plus I know his mouth will drive me wild and I know he’s very well endowed. Now, are we done?”
Chris’ face is red and Tim’s grinning like an idiot. “Whatever.” He turns and leaves. Lucy slams the door and Tim’s got her up against it before she can lock it.
“You’re very confident in me.” Tim’s voice is husky in her ear.
Lucy’s hands graze from his chest and over his pants where she can feel him twitch. He’s certainly not tiny. “Well you just showed me what your tongue can do with only a kiss and I can feel that you’re not small. I have a very good feeling about you.”
Tim smirks and kisses her hard. “Well, I guess I better go show you what these hands and mouths can do.” Lucy shivers as Tim picks her up and brings her into her bedroom. “Don’t worry baby, it’ll be better than you can imagine.” Tim tells her before slamming the bedroom door shut.
