Work Text:
Anita lay in Edwards arms and watched as the time on her digital clock flipped to five o'clock. Then her gaze shot to his cell phone just before it rang and flashed 'Donna' on the screen. Anita teared up as Edward reached over her and grabbed the phone.
"Hello Honey- pot....Really!...Yeah, I'll be there in a few hours....Okay. I do have something we need to talk about though....Me too," then he hung up the phone.
When he saw her tears Edward hugged her and said, "Hey, please don't cry."
"Can't you stay a little longer?"
"You know I can't," Edward said as he got dressed. "I'll be back. Trust me I won't be gone that long."
"Anytime away from you is too long. I wish you wouldn't go, I feel so lonely without you here."
"I'll break it off with her very soon. Then I'll be all yours," Edward said pulling her into a hug.
"Yeah, right," she said. "I'm not getting my hopes up; you've said that before."
"I know, I'm sorry it's taken so long but I will leave her," Edward said before kissing Anita and walking out of her bedroom.

Two weeks later, Edward came to Anita's door with her favorite lilies and a wide smile, "I told you I would be back."
Anita shook her head, "I can't do this anymore, Edward. It hurts too much. I don't think we should see each other anymore. I deserve better than to share you."
Edward's face turned serious, "Anita, I left her, and I'm not going anywhere. I move here to be closer to you."
Anita shot him a skeptical look.
"I'm serious; my place is five minutes from here. You can even call Donna if you don't believe me."
Anita took him at his word and called Donna, "What do you want, Anita; Ted doesn't live here anymore?
"I was just making sure he was telling the truth."
"He is; we split up a week ago, and to be honest, it's been over for a while. I've gotta go; bye, Anita."
Anita hung up the phone and let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She pulled Edward to her by his shirt and kissed him.
Edward pulled back and said, "I love you, Anita, and I'm sorry it took me this long to realize it."
She grinned at him, "I love you, too."
