Oct 13, 1877 A.C.G.
Link was never that fond of autumn, but this time was different. This was the last time he would see Hyrule like this. It was the last time he would see Hyrule at all. He admired all the colours of the trees and the grass, the birds flying and chirping, and the people outside raking their lawns. Yes, this was the last time he would see them as well. It was a still morning with a faint breeze. The overcast skies gave the Faron Grasslands a more depressing look. Oddly fitting given it was Link's last day in Hyrule.
As the last box was rolled out of his room, a sense of awe and sombre filled the space. Link had only lived in it for two years, but nonetheless, he felt saddened by its bareness. All the belongings he wanted to bring were packed up in either the moving truck or his suitcase. If this was any other move to somewhere else in Hyrule, Link may have felt a sense of excitement; but given where he was going, it left an empty feeling inside him. He had heard of New Hyrule before, that it was the largest city in the kingdom. And he had technically been there before when he was very little. But the size of the city frightened Link. He had never been in such an environment before, besides Castle Town and Hyrule Field. He was excited, scared, and saddened by the move all at once. He was going to miss his friends, but excited to make new ones. He was saddened that he would not be living with his parents, but delighted to be with his grandma. He was worried about moving to the big city, but was ready to face it.
A knock at the door disrupted Link's thoughts. He made his way through the empty hallways towards the front door. He was filled with joy when he saw Medli and Komali on the porch.
“Link!” Medli called. Makar, Maggie and Mila accompanied her and Komali.
“You’re here!” Link cheered, as he ran into Medli with a hug.
“Aha. Of course we would silly,” giggled Medli.
“Yeh, you think we would just let our friend go without saying goodbye?” Makar joked. Link went to hug Komali. The rito wasn’t expecting such a kind gesture but he cherished it deeply.
“Oof. Hey Link,” he quivered. Link gave Makar a head pat before Makar jumped in with a Korok hug.
“Ya haha,” they both laughed. Link stopped in front of Maggie before kneeling as if he was her knight.
“And to you, my princess.”
“Oh stop you,” she blushed before messing up Link's hair. They all laughed before he went to greet Mila, who put out her fist.
“Sup dude,” she said as they fist bumped and bro hugged.
“Sup,” Link said toughly. “I'm so glad you all came down here!”
“Of course! You excited to go to New Hyrule?” Medli asked.
“Ehh… sort of,” Link said sheepishly. “Like, I'm excited… but also nervous yah know”
“Yeh I get it,” Medli replied. “Even Central Hyrule is a little big for me. I couldn’t imagine moving to such a big city.” Link nodded.
“But you’ll get to have lots of fun adventures right?” asked Makar.
“Yeh yeh of course. I'll be sure to send pictures and tell you guys everything!” Link exclaimed. Makar flew around in excitement.
“Link do you have your bag and suitcase?” Link’s mother called. “Oh, hello guys.”
“Hi Mrs. Windin,” they greeted.
“We were just saying hi to Link,” explained Medli
“Oh, that's nice,” Link's mom replied. “I know you guys are going to miss him.”
“Yeah, but I was talking to Dad and he said that we can visit whenever we want!” Medli explained.
“Oh yeh,” Link realized. He had forgotten the possibility of his friends coming to his new home.
“That's a great idea! We will have to organize something when he gets settled in,” Link's mom explained. Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Will Link ever come here to visit?” asked Komali.
“Of course I will, right Mom?” Link noticed the look of uncertainty in her eyes as if she wasn’t sure she knew what to say.
“I’m sure we can figure something out,” she said neutrally.
“Honey, the taxi will be here any minute. Did Link get his stuff?” Link's dad came to the doorway with Aryll by his side. “Ah, hello everyone.”
“Hi Mr. Windin,” everyone greeted.
“Oh and hi Aryll!” said Medli.
“Hi,” she said, waving back at everyone else.
“Link do you have your stuff?” Link’s dad asked again.
“Yes it’s in the living room.”
“Can you please go get it? The taxi will be here soon,” Link's dad asked. Link ran to the living room. His bag and suitcase were near the entrance. It looked so eerie without any furniture. His parents had decided to move to a smaller apartment in Hyrule Field, as it was closer to their work. Link remembered all the fun times they had during their short time here. He was going to miss his home in Hyrule.
“Link the taxi is here!” called his mom. He grabbed his stuff before having one last look at his old house.
“ Goodbye home… goodbye Hyrule,” Link thought. His parents had started getting some of the bags in and settling down Aryll when Link came out. The moving truck had closed up and the Goron and Hylian were waiting for his parents to talk to them.
“Well… this is it. I’m really gonna miss you guys.”
“Don't worry, we'll keep in touch!” assured Medli. Everyone nodded in agreement. “But yeh… We’ll miss you too.”
“GROUP HUG!” Makar shouted, and everyone surrounded Link in a big group hug. He cherished this moment as if it was his last. Even if he knew that they would see each other again. The silence was broken by sniffling from a well-known rito.
“Don’t worry Komali, you’ll see me again.”
“How did you..” he whimpered. Everyone giggled. Komali had been visibly sad the entire time they were there, but they all knew why. Link had helped and touched the hearts of all his friends, but Komali was a special case.
“It's just… y-you’ve really meant a lot to me Link,” Komali was trying so hard not to cry. “But… I’m excited to hear about your adventures. Th-Thank you for everything.”
“Aww now you’re gonna make me cry,” Link whimpered. Everyone giggled.
“Link, it's time to go,” His mom called. She was waiting with the door open.
“Just a sec!” he shouted, pulling out his Sheikah Pod. “One last selfie guys?” They all huddled together for one last selfie together.
“Say cheese!” Link called. They all cheered before a click from the camera finalized the picture. After putting it back into his pocket, Link said goodbye to his friends before stepping into the car.
“Good luck Link!!” everyone shouted, as the taxi drove away.
Link watched as his old house disappeared over the crest, as they descended Mt. Faloraa. He reflected on all the memories going up and down this road, whether it was going to school or visiting friends. They passed his old primary school in Nautelle Wetlands as they made their way towards Taobab Town Center. He remembered reuniting with Maggie and Mila when he first went there. Their parents also moved to Hyrule for much the same reasons his parents did. He remembered all the games they played both at school and online. It was at that point he got a text on his Sheikah Pod. It was from Mila.
Mila: 8:09 am
Sup nerd. I know we didn’t get a lot of time to talk but I just want to say that I am excited for you! I’ve been to New Hyrule many times before to visit family and don’t worry, you'll get used to its size. Hopefully when you’ve gotten moved in we can finish that kingdom on Blockcraft. Oh, and Maggie says hi and hopes you have fun!
Link giggled while reading her message. He, Mila and Maggie had been building a kingdom on Blockcraft called Magoria, as insisted by Maggie. They had almost completed it but needed to finish the outer castle walls.
Link: 8:10 am
Tanks dude! I’ll text you guys when I'm ready and we’ll finish that wall!
Mila liked his message as a reply. They had made it past Lake Hylia before hitting traffic. The lake looked still, with only a few boats on the water. Or so he thought, Link only got a quick glimpse of it. The main road went through East Post Industrial Park, where much of the traffic was. It felt like it was busier than usual for a cool morning. He saw glimpses of the buildings of Hyrule Field, spread across the landscape. Most of the tallest buildings were in Castle Town but there were a small handful near Lake Kolomo and Windvane Meadows. Their tall glass facades looked out of place around the more traditional mid-rise apartments. As they passed Lon Lon Farms he tuned into the radio. It was the classical station, and it was playing one of his favourite songs, The Great Sea Awaits. Link reminisced on its tune and remembered his childhood home on Outset Island. He remembered meeting Medli and Komali on Dragon Roost, as well as Makar on Forest Haven. He missed living on the Great Sea Islands, with its warm weather and ocean breeze; for Link, no matter where he went, that was always home.
“And that was The Great Sea Awaits by Kenta Nagata. You’re listening to 83.3 Hyrule Public Radio with your host Henery Cruze.” The news jingle started to play, which is usually when Link would tune out.
“An update to the traffic situation in Hyrule. The M1 and Akkala Expressway are quite busy this morning going southbound and there is an accident on the M1, south of Tribly Plain, both ways have slowed down so look out –” Link had pretty much tuned out at that point. He saw Hyrule Castle overlooking Castle Town. The overcast skies made it look quite gloomy, compared to its commanding appearance on sunnier days.
“- speech given by Queen Zelda a few days ago, concerning the return of Ganon –”
“Um. is it ok if I…” Link’s dad asked the taxi driver, gesturing over to the radio.
“Oh um… sure,” he replied. Link only got the tail end of what the radio was saying.
“-some felt the speech was too pro-monar–”. The station changed to a punk rock station, which surprised Link given his dad didn’t like punk. He thought about what the radio said.
‘The return of Ganon…’ He didn't know who Ganon was, or what significance he had. Though he did remember his parent's sudden announcement that they would be moving to New Hyrule. They explained to him that he and Aryll would be living with their grandma, but never explained why. Link had asked repeatedly why they were leaving given they were happy in Hyrule, but the question frustrated his parents. He never got a real answer to why they were leaving. But this Ganon person may have had something to do with it, he thought.
They had finally cleared the traffic and were well on their way to the airport. Link got one last look at Akkala before it eventually disappeared behind the mountains. The airport was in Termina, north of Hyrule. Link could vaguely see Clock Town in the distance, surrounded by industry, mountains, and farmland. Much of Termina was farmland or wetland, with mountains forming as the backdrop. The airport was outside of the city near the coast of the Great Bay. When they arrived Link grabbed his bag and suitcase as they made their way to check in. The departure terminal was big, with high ceilings littered with ads or information boards. His parents explained that their flight was not scheduled to depart for another hour and a half, which felt like an eternity. They checked in their bags and went through security, before going through towards their gate. They did make a stop at a sandwich shop to get breakfast beforehand. Link got his favourite tuna melt sandwich, while his parents got a simple egg and sausage. Aryll had a ham and cheese sandwich, which she accidentally spilled on herself.
They began to board the plane a few minutes before departure. Link got the window seat, with Aryll next to him. He got a good view of the wing of the airplane and the airport. It was at this point that he felt anxious about flying. Link had never been on an aircraft before, besides the time he went to New Hyrule when he was very little. But he didn’t remember what it was like at that time.
“You ok Link?” his dad asked. He was sitting in the aisle seat in the same row. Link nodded, but his dad could tell that he was nervous.
“Do you want me to sit next to you?” he asked. Link wasn’t sure how to respond. On the one hand, he would’ve liked his father to be next to him, but he also wanted to be brave. He shook his head in disagreement.
“I’m ok.” His father nodded in confirmation.
“Good morning folks and welcome aboard this Air Hyrule flight to New Hyrule,” greeted the rito flight attendant. The cabin crew began to prepare the plane for taxi and takeoff. They went through the safety pamphlet and discussed emergencies, while the airplane pushed back from the terminal. Link’s anxiety rose as the plane moved. The sound of the engines gave an eerie hum to the cabin, which didn't help. As the plane got closer to the runway his hands got clammy and his nerves were on edge. He wasn't allowed to use his HS2 to distract him until they had taken off. He tried to calm himself down.
“Link?” his dad called. “Do you want to hold my hand? It helped me when I first flew.” He accepted his dad's hand.
“If you ever feel scared, just squeeze it.” Aryll also joined in holding both Link and her dad's arms. The plane finally turned onto the runway and began to take off. The engines screamed with life and buzzed with power, as Link was taken back into his seat. He closed his eyes and clenched on his chair. He felt every bump and shake of the aircraft as it sped down the runway. He braced himself as the plane began to lift off; he felt every organ in his body be squeezed towards the ground. Aryll began to cry in pain as she had never been on a plane before. Time felt like it stood still for an agonizingly long time for Link. He kept squeezing his dad's hand as the plane turned towards Hyrule.
Eventually, the feelings stopped. Or at least subsided enough to be manageable. Link finally opened his eyes just in time to see Hyrule from above. Everything looked so small from his perspective. The large and commanding castle looked like a small toy, the sprawling city looked like the size of a saucer, and the mountains looked like small rocks. He didn’t realize how surrounded Hyrule was by mountains; it looked as if it was a secluded and secret civilization. His dad was trying to calm Aryll down from the experience they went through. Link joined in by making silly faces to her. She giggled in glee and had completely forgotten about their take-off experience.
“You’re silly, big brother,” she giggled. Link laughed as well before looking back outside the window. He got to see the vast ocean that was the Great Sea, and he got to see what looked like the islands. Outset looked so small from the sky. He remembered how big it seemed when he was little, but from up in the clouds it looked like a penny. Even the other islands, Windfall, Dragon Roost, Forest Haven, and Greatfish Isle looked so small from up in the sky. He cherished this experience, as it may be the last time he got to see his home like this. As the islands went out of view, he remembered his friends. He remembered his home. He remembered Hyrule.
“Dang it,” Link thought, as he lost another rabbit. He always found the rabbit quest in Rails of the Spirits quite annoying. Sometimes the touch screen would register his taps too late, if not at all. And the accuracy was less than to be desired. He was thinking about asking for the Hatendo HS3D which had recently been released, as one of his Holly Day gifts. However, that wouldn’t be for a few more months. The flight was relatively uneventful. Though, it was long, at seven hours. Most of what Link did was play on his HS2 or watch some of the shows on the in-flight entertainment system. He was glad that the Nicktoon Channel was available onboard, so he was able to catch up on some cartoons he’d missed. The pilot had previously announced that they were making their final descent into New Hyrule. The cabin crew was preparing for landing and asking passengers to pack away large electronics into their bags, as well as collecting garbage. Aryll had fallen asleep next to Link, so he was trying his best to be quiet. The sun had set a while ago, so there was not much to see outside, not yet at least
“Link, we’re landing. Could you please put that away?” his dad asked.
“Ugh, do I have to?” Link moaned.
“Yes Link,” his dad replied. He closed the HS2 and put it in his bag. He would have to finish that quest later.
“How much longer?” Link moaned.
“We’ll be there in about 10 minutes,” his dad explained. The screen showed the flight path, and the plane was practically over New Hyrule. He couldn’t see anything outside other than the dimly lit ocean.
“Good evening passengers this is your pilot speaking. This is just a reminder for all passengers to prepare for landing as we make our final approach into New Hyrule…” Link tuned out the announcement whilst thinking about his new life. He thought about where he was going to live. His grandma had bought a new condo a couple of years ago in the Outset Beachside district. As the name suggested it was close to a beach, New Hyrule Beach to be exact. From what he had heard it was a big beach made up of smaller beaches, stretching all along the west coast of New Hyrule. He was excited to see it. Link then thought about where he would be going to school. The plan was after landing and settling in they would all explore New Hyrule the next day, as a way to get used to the big city. There were a couple of attractions they were going to see, such as the Zorania Aquarium and the Harborfront Sky Tower. After that Link would prepare for school the next day. He would be going to Minish Park Primary School, which was a little over a 30-minute walk from the condo. Going to new schools was nerve-racking for Link, even though he was good at making new friends and getting accustomed to new environments. He wondered about the types of people at the school. Link had only been in suburban or rural schools before. He remembered how Mila said that city schools tend to be more eventful than suburban schools. He didn’t know what that meant however and instead hoped it wasn’t too scary of an experience.
“Hey look, you can see New Hyrule!” His dad explained. What Link saw blew his mind. The city was far larger than anything he had ever imagined. The dots of the street lights and buildings seemed to go on forever, and there was far more life than what he had seen before. The city seemed to be 10 times the size of Central Hyrule.
“Woah!... that’s New Hyrule!?” He shouted.
“Shhh, you’ll wake up Aryll,” his dad whispered. Link corrected his mistake.
“Sorry,” he whispered, “but that’s really New Hyrule?”
“Yup, that's New Hyrule.”
“It’s huge!” As the plane turned he was able to get a better view of the city. It was mostly urban sprawl with what looked like a mountain of some sort in the distance. There were dozens of what appeared to be lights of boats in the harbour, tall buildings littered the skyline, and a river of vehicles flowed down the main roads and highways. The plane jostled slightly as they made their way to the airport. Link was amazed by the millions of houses and towers around New Hyrule.
“How many people live here?” he asked his dad.
“Well for the city, I think it’s somewhere around 11 million people.”
“WHAT!” Link shouted before covering his mouth. Aryll shuffled in her chair but didn’t seem to wake up.
“Yeh, it’s pretty big,” His dad explained. “And that's just New Hyrule. The neighbouring city of Hytopia is another 4 million. And then you have the metro area of those cities which I think is a combined population of around 20 million.” Link couldn’t believe what he was hearing; it boggled his mind how big the cities were.
“Don’t worry though, you’ll still have lots of fun here,” his dad reassured.
Looking back outside the window, there were more tall buildings in the distance, but most of the buildings seemed to be houses. The airport then came into view as the plane landed. Link was so distracted by the numerous buildings that he didn’t even notice that the plane had touched down. The engines roared as they slowed down to taxing speed.
“Welcome everyone to New Hyrule,” the pilot announced. “The time is currently 10:45 pm and it's a clear 9°C tonight. On behalf of the flight crew, we thank you for joining us today, and hope you have a great time in New Hyrule.” The plane slowly made its way towards the terminal. The airport was much bigger than the one in Hyrule, and there were far more planes. After the plane had stopped at the gate everyone started to get their stuff together. As they made their way towards the terminal, Link felt like he was being teleported to a whole new world. The terminal was similar to the one in Hyrule, though it was stand-alone to the main terminal. There was something about the airport however that made it feel distinctly different. Was it the people? The layout? The smell? He didn’t quite know, though he suspected it was a combination of all those things. His parents explained that they were in Terminal Two, where flights bound for Hyrule were stationed. To get to the main terminal they had to use the people mover, which was situated downstairs under the airport. When they got downstairs, there were plenty of people waiting for it. There were four platforms for the trains to pull in, both with a diagram of the airport and times for when the next train would arrive. They were much smaller than Link was expecting. There was a spot at the front where he could watch the train go down the tunnel towards the other terminal. The doors closed and the train started making its way through the tunnel. It glided with ease and was quite smooth, especially compared to the buses that Link had ridden in Hyrule. It was far quieter as well with no engine sound disrupting the journey. He felt like he was on a spaceship.
The train soon docked at the Terminal One platforms. As they made their way up towards the arrivals section, Link was astonished by its size. There were luggage carousels littered throughout the terminal as far as he could see. And then he saw his grandma, waiting for them near the train exit.
“Mhamó! (Grandma!)” Link called as he ran towards her. She held out her arm and gave him a warm hug.
“Ooff, Dia duit mo Link milis (Ooff, Hello my sweet Link),” she said. Link always loved Mhamó’s hugs. They always felt warm and cozy, like a warm glass of milk and a cookie before bed.
“Hey, mama. Conas atá tú? (Hey, Mom. How are you?)” Link’s dad asked.
“Ó, tá mé ag déanamh go breá mo bhuachaill. Conas a bhí an eitilt? (Oh, I'm doing fine my boy. How was the flight?)”
“Fada, ach go maith (Long, but good).” Mhamó spoke Great Sea Dialect (GSD), though she did know enough Hylian to get around. Link and Aryll were being taught GSD so they would be able to communicate with their grandma more easily, which Link didn’t mind since he liked learning other languages. He was also taking Gerudo immersion in school and was fairly good at reading it, though speaking and holding a conversation was much more difficult. After their reunion, they went to the carousel to pick up their bags; then, they made their way to the parking garage, dodging all the cars and taxis picking up and dropping off people. They climbed into the hatchback and set off for Outset Beachside.
Besides Link admiring the concrete interchange around the airport, the drive was rather uneventful. It was quite dark out, so there was little to see besides the lights of houses and apartment buildings. Link was exhausted; the trip was quite long, with a lot of sitting in cramped seats. He eventually fell asleep while they were on the freeway towards New Hyrule.
Link woke up to a jostle from his dad. They had arrived at the condo parkade and were getting their stuff out of the car. The parkade was dimly lit, with lights that illuminated with motion. He grabbed his suitcase and bag from the truck and made his way to the elevator.
“Where’s mum going?” Aryll asked.
“She is going to the hotel to check in for herself and me,” their dad replied.
“Oh… can’t you sleep here?”
“There isn’t enough space for us, so you and Link are going to be sleeping here with Mhamó, remember?”
“Awwww,” moaned Aryll. They stepped in and with a soft chime made their way to the 11th floor. The building was relatively new, only having been built a couple of years ago. The corridors had ocean blue carpet with the walls painted in blue, white, and sand yellow. Mhamó let them in unit A-1102. The condo opened up into the living and dining room, with the kitchen directly to their right. Everything was new and sleek, and it smelled like the ocean and bamboo. Link was amazed by how nice everything looked.
“Tá cuma deas ar an áit (The place looks nice),” Link’s dad spoke.
“Go raibh maith agat. Chríochnaigh mé é a ullmhú le haghaidh do theacht (Thank you. I finished preparing it for your arrival),” Mhamó explained. “Ar mhaith leat do sheomra a fheiceáil, a Link? (Would you like to see your room, Link?)”
“Ó, cinnte (Oh, sure),” he replied. He followed his grandma down a small hallway to a door on his right. His room was a similar size to the living and dining room, and there was already a bunk bed and chest for his and Aryll’s toys.
“Seo an áit a mbeidh tú féin agus Aryll ina gcodladh. An maith leat é? (This is where you and Aryll will sleep. Do you like it?)”
“Sea, tá sé ar fheabhas (Yes, it's great),” replied Link. He was a little bummed out that he would be sharing a room with his sister, but the room itself was nice.
“Ó is maith sin (Oh that’s good),” his grandma said, as she walked out of the room. Link set down his bag and suitcase and sat on the lower bunk. Looking outside he saw a bunch of other condo towers and what looked like the beach. There was not a lot to see other than that, however, because it was so dark. It felt weird to be in his and Aryll’s room. That this was where he was going to be sleeping. He thought about how all his friends were so far away from him now. In a way, it made him feel alone.
“Link, Mhamó was going to warm up some soup. Do you want some before going to bed?” his dad asked.
“Oh um… sure,” he replied. Aryll walked in to see their room.
“See Aryll? This is where you and Link will be sleeping,” his dad explained. She admired the bare room, before going to the chest and opening it.
“Ooh gifts!” she shouted. As she started to grab the toys, Link and his dad came to see them. There were two plushes inside, one was a seagull squshmarshmello plush and the other was a lobster one.
“Ó, feicim go bhfuil mo chuid bronntanais feicthe agat (Oh, I see you have seen my gifts),” Mhamó explained, entering the room.
“Tá sé seo chomh deas. Go raibh maith agat mamaí! (This is so nice. Thanks, mom!)” replied Link's dad.
“Go raibh maith agat, Mamó! (Thank you, Grandma!)” cheered Link.
“Thank you Mhamó!” cheered Aryll before running in for a hug.
“Ooff, Rud ar bith do mo chlann clainne (Ooff, Anything for my grandchildren),” said Mhamó. “Tá an anraith réidh más mian leat roinnt a bheith agat (The soup is ready if you want to have some).”
“Le do thoil (Yes, please),” Link replied. They all went to the dining room table and were greeted with five hot bowls of soup.
Link loved his grandma's soup. It was creamy and smooth, sweet but savoury, and just the right temperature and thickness. The hint of pork and corn mixed well with the vegetables and garlic. And the pear added a nice hint of flavour.
“Dad?” asked Link. “Do you and Mum really have to go to the hotel? Can you sleep here for at least one night?”
“Yeah, can't you stay?” Aryll added. Their dad pondered the question. They intended on going to a hotel nearby so that Link and Aryll could have a chance to sleep in the condo together. Additionally, there was no other bed for them to sleep in. But Link did have a point, and Aryll seemed to insist on them staying.
“I'll ask your Mum when she gets back,” Link’s dad replied. “Maybe we can figure something out.”
“Ok,” said Link and Aryll. Link was hoping his dad would say yes, but he technically didn’t say no. It was at that moment that their mom walked in.
“All checked in,” she said, putting down her bag. “Oh, I see we have soup over here.”
“Yeh, it’s really good,” Link replied.
“Bhuel, go raibh maith agat Mamó as an anraith (Well thank you Grandma for the soup),” said Link’s mom.
“Doire am ar bith (Anytime dearie).” She sat down and started eating.
“So mum,” asked Link. “Me and Aryll were wondering if you and Dad could sleep here for at least one night?”
“Pleeeeese,” Aryll added.
“Well…” she thought. Aryll was trying her best to seem cute, as was Link.
“I can sleep on the tolg if you want, Dearie,” Mhamó added. “I don’t mind.” Her accent was thick, but Link was able to understand what she was saying.
“Oh no Mhamó, you don't have to do that,” Link’s mom replied.
“No, I insist. This is you baile as well dearie,” Mhamó insisted. “I would love it if everyone was here.” Link’s mom looked at Link and Aryll, then his dad, then finally back at Mhamó.
“Well… if you sure–”
“Yaaaay,” Link and Aryll cheered. Mhamó smiled with glee.
“Tá mé an-cinnte (I am very sure).”
After dinner, Link and Aryll brushed their teeth and got into their pyjamas. His parents helped set up the couch for Mhamó to sleep on and set up their bed, before Link’s mom went back to the hotel to get their pyjamas from their suitcases. Link had claimed the top bunk, while Aryll settled in the bottom bunk. Their dad tucked them both in.
“So we are going to see all the cool sites of New Hyrule tomorrow right?” Link asked his dad
“Yup, we’re going to the aquarium, the sky tower, and we think we will have time to go to the bug zoo. But we will see,” his dad explained. “Are you excited?”
“Yes! Yes, I am!” Link exclaimed.
“Great! But you two will need to go to sleep tonight alright? It’s going to be a busy day tomorrow,” their dad added.
“Ok,” Link and Aryll replied.
“If you need anything we will be in Mhamó’s bedroom ok? It's to your right down the hall.”
“Ok, Dad.”
“I love you,” Link’s dad said. He gave both Link and Aryll a hug and a kiss before turning off the light. The glow from the night light was the only thing illuminating the room.
“Goodnight kids,” their dad said.
“Goodnight Dad.” The door closed as he went to the living room. It was silent besides the faint sounds of the city.
“Goodnight big brother,” Aryll wished.
“Night Night Aryll.” Link laid in bed and reflected on the day. He thought about his old house in Hyrule and his friends. He thought about living his new life in New Hyrule. He thought about the fun adventures he was going to have with his family. He thought about all the potential friends he would make in school. It was weird being in a new place, a new home, a new environment.
“Well… welcome to New Hyrule Link,” he thought as he slowly fell asleep.
