Chapter Text
Moving out of their homes and into the UA dorms had brought the class closer together than ever before. Sure, they all had bonded quickly over their shared trauma of the USJ, but living together brought them closer in different ways.
They learned about their classmates much faster than they would have living apart. It was in the little things their classmates did on a daily basis, like how Iida drank orange juice every morning to fuel his engines, Tokoyami shed his feathers and turned them into windcatchers, and how Uraraka wore mittens to bed so she wouldn’t float in her sleep.
One of these situations was when Mina Ashido came down from her room late one weekend, hair pinned up in a various assortment of crazy clips, ribbons, barrettes, bobby pins, and a leopard print cloth headband holding her hair out of her face.
“Mornin’!” The girl greeted her classmates cheerily as she set around the kitchen making herself a bowl of cereal.
Sero let out a snicker upon seeing her. “Ashido what’s with the hair?” The fellow bakusquad member inquired looking up from his homework. The question alerted the rest of the group that was sprawled around the living room, and they blinked up at their crazy haired classmate in confusion.
“Oh, do you like it?” Ashido smiled spinning around so the class could see her hair from all angles.
“Its- definitely interesting.” Yaoyorozu gave her a nod before sipping her morning tea.
“What do you think Bakugo?” Mina pressed, leaning over the explosive blonde who was scowling at his phone.
“Eh? Why would I care about your hair, Racoon Eyes?” He growled looking up from his phone. “It looks like-”
“I think it looks pretty funky, in a cool way!” Kaminari shot finger guns at her as he interrupted Bakugo’s crude language.
Ashido let out a laugh. “Thanks Kami!”
It became a common sight on weekends to see Ashido bouncing around the dorm, hair crazily pinned up in an assortment of clips.
It wasn’t until a couple months later that Hagakure brought up the question while having a spa afternoon with Aoyama, Midoriya, and the girls. (The two boys were honorary members of their care club since Midoriya could expertly braid hair, and Aoyama provided a lot of skin care tips)
“Hey, Mina, why do you always do your hair funny on the weekends?” Hagakure inquired from where Midoriya was braiding her invisible hair.
“Huh?” The pink haired teen looked up from where she was intently painting her nails a butter yellow. “Oh, my mom and I used to do it every weekend.” She replied sounding melancholy. “It was our mother-daughter time. But it’s so hard to arrange for home visits now.”
Home visits had to be scheduled weeks in advance, and the student would need either a teacher, or pro-hero escort to take them to their home and wait there until they were taken back to the school. “It seems silly to go through all the hassle to pin up hair. Like, I get that the school wants to keep us safe, but I get kinda homesick.”
“I can see what I can do to get you a home visit.” Yaoyorozu spoke up. “It’s my job as Vice-Rep to assist you in these things.”
Ashido gave her a grateful smile. “Thanks Momo, but you don’t have to, we came up with a solution! We video call every Sunday morning, and we do our hair over the phone.”
“Aww that sounds so sweet!” Uraraka cooed. “I want to meet your mother.”
“My mom would love you guys.” Ashido laughed before pausing, “Although… She’s kinda excentric. She’d want to do your hair though, she’s a hairdresser and loves doing it.”
Midoriya let out a chuckle pulling on his curly bangs. “I should go see her next time I get off campus; I definitely need a haircut soon.”
Ashido suddenly straightened a strange glint in her eyes. “I can do your hair, Midoriya! My mom’s taught me a whole lot! It’ll save you a trip.” She leapt to her feet. “We can do it in the kitchen! C’mon Mido!”
“What-” Midoriya yelped as Ashido dragged him off the couch towards the kitchen.
“It’ll be fun!”
“I’ll cut your hair, she said. It’ll be fun she said.” Midoriya moped sitting on a stool in the middle of the kitchen. His hair looked like a wet mop, and he looked miserable.
“Relax Mido. I even cut my own hair, and you’ve seen how good it looks.” Ashido assured him, squirting his hair with the spray bottle again before pulling out her pink hair cutting scissors. “I’ll just give it a trim, alright?”
“Right.” Midoriya nodded, freezing in place like a statue so she could cut his hair.
The pinkette hummed along to a popular pop song playing from her phone as she trimmed his curls. And later…
“Alrighty Mido! There you go! That wasn’t that bad now, was it?” Ashido grinned.
“No, it really wasn’t.” Midoriya chuckled sheepishly.
“Wow! Nice job!” Uraraka piped up from the couch.
“Isn’t he cute, Ochako?” Ashido smirked teasingly. Uraraka’s face turned bright pink. “Well?” Ashido raised an eyebrow.
Uraraka nodded mutely, hiding her flushed face behind her hands. Midoriya tilted his head in confusion. “Are you all right, Uraraka.”
“I’m fine!” She replied squeakily spinning around and slouching into the couch. Jiro let out a snicker.
“You look Tres Magnifique!” Aoyama complemented, striking a pose.
“Thanks Aoyama.” Midoriya grinned standing up and shaking the hair off of his shirt.
“Go take a shower, or you’ll get all itchy.” Ashido gave him a light playful shove. “Now you’ll look good at your work-study!”
“Yes! Thank you, Ashido!” Midoriya gave her a grateful bow before disappearing to clean up.
Of course, that was how Ashido became the assigned hair trimmer of Class 1A. Once word spread, she even started a business cutting hair for other students, setting up in an empty classroom on certain weekends.
And of course, she used the money she made to buy snacks for the weekly Class 1A Movie nights; A tradition that had started when the entire class learned that Todoroki had never seen Disney movies.
