Chapter Text
It was Homecoming, one of the most important parties in all teenagers lives, and of course Aradia was missing a date. Being a freaky goth girl, you’d think she’d have people drooling all over her. Too bad they run away at the sight of her bone collection. As Aradia leaned against the hard plastered wall of the school gymnasium she couldn’t help but cross her arms in boredom. Around her crowds of trolls and humans danced to the loud music being blasted in all directions. Unfortunately for her this party would last all night and she had another year to wait until she could drive. From the corner of her eye she spotted a friend from chemistry walking over. Aradia never knew Nepeta all that well but she hadn’t thought she’d be so much of a social recuse to wear her regular clothes to a party. The cat girl circled closer preparing to pounce on the unsuspecting goth. Then when the time was right… *CRASH*. Nepeta took her chance sending her and Aradia flying into a nearby table.
“:33 < H33H33! Hi Aradia!” She giggled seemingly unbothered by the mess she had just caused.
Aradia shook off any shock from the attack before looking up at Nepeta “0uch… hey Nepeta”, she smiled softly.
The cat girl sharpened her claws on Aradia’s chest causing her to cringe at the pain “Uh, y0u’ve kinda kn0cked 0ver a t0n 0f stuff..?”
Nepeta examined her surroundings “:33 < Oh! Oopsies..” She jumped back onto her feet ignoring the stares from the other students.
Aradia took this as her chance to escape from the cat girl’s grasp, stabilizing herself onto both feet. Nepeta awkwardly pulled the table upright, giggling nervously. She focused her attention back to Aradia “:33 < Soooooo, who did mew go with to Homecoming?” She smiled mischievously rubbing her hands (paws?) together. Aradia stared blankly at the cat girl, if she tells her she came alone the monster will take the opportunity to play matchmaker. Nepeta could never live this down, that girl took her ships very seriously. Aradia had to make up an excuse and fast. Looking around the room frantically she grabbed the nearest loser “Him! Yes I went with uhh…”. The nerdy guy looked at her with a confused expression “What-“. Aradia blocked his mouth with her hand “what’s y0ur name? Trust me with this” She whispered nervously. “Iit’2 2ollux” the guy whispered back, his brows furrowing. Aradia turned back to Nepeta who’s been standing there watching them closely, “Yes! This is my date, uh S0llux Y0u said?” The guy, or Sollux, nods in response. Nepeta gasps in joy “:33 < really?! I don’t think I’ve ever s33n this guy befurr”, She squints suspiciously “:33 < have mew b33n k33ping a secret matespritship???”
Aradia smiles awkwardly “n0, 0f c0urse n0t! We were actually just… leaving! Yeah, y0u w0uldn’t want t0 keep us t0tally matesprits fr0m d0ing matesprit things…?”. Sollux gives her a judgmental stare but Nepeta is fooled otherwise.
“:33 < I guess that’s true… but you have to tell me everything! I n33d to know what’s going on with this suppawsedly purrfect pairing.” She widens her smile showing off the sharp teeth neatly tucked into her mouth.
Sollux turns to Aradia concerned for his wellbeing but she was already halfway through dragging him out the gymnasium door. “Ha yes, bye Nepeta. See you later but I have business with my very real matesprit” she gives the cat girl one final wave and they were both out the door.
“:33 < awww! Cute!!!” Nepeta squeals as they leave, “:33 < wait where did Equius go?”
Outside in the long school halls Aradia slams her body against the doors, closing them tightly. Sollux glares at her unamused by this interruption. “S0 s0rry about that, I um c0uldn’t let Nepeta find 0ut about my… l0neliness?” She tilts her head laughing worriedly, unsure whether an excuse this poor would ever work on this guy. Sollux raises an eyebrow before scoffing and reaching into his pocket pulling out what appeared to be a Nintendo 3DS, “Whatever ii wanted an excu2e two leave thii2 place anyway.” Now that the room was much quieter Aradia could fully hear the losers voice… and damn did she not expect him to have such strong a lisp. I mean this guy was obviously a nerd but Jegus. The two sat there in silence as the dude started playing video games on the console. Despite being the newest model the thing looked like it had been through hell and back.
Aradia couldn’t help but stare at the Redditer curiously. This guy surpassed any normal nerdiness level by a longshot, she was almost mesmerized by his poor posture and ability to have no social life. “Well we might have t0 pretend fill each 0ther’s quadrants f0r n0w, at least until it’s safe f0r me t0 pretend break up with y0u?” She looked back to Sollux expectingly, no response.
The loser was busy with his 3DS, after a moment of awkwardly watching him fiddle with the machine Aradia poked him, supposedly to focus his attention. Sollux looked up from his very important gaming session only to be met by Aradia’s wide eyed stares.
“Oh, uh yeah ii’ll do that” he squinted his eyes or at least you’d assume he did, not much could be seen behind the red and blue glasses resting on his face.
Aradia smiled, feeling fulfillment as he agrees to the complicated, extremely stupid, and completely unnecessary plan.
