Work Text:

It was a bright, warm, sunny day when Minji's worst nightmare finally came true. Her girlfriend, her highschool sweetheart, had cheated on her with her bestfriend.

She found Siyeon and Bora kissing in front of the Biology building where she usually met up with her now ex-girlfriend. Her heart squeeze in her chest, an aching pain spreading throughout as tears slowly dropped from her eyes. Siyeon had barely even glanced at her as Bora displayed the fakest sympathy Minji had ever seen.

"I'm so sorry you had to see that Jiu." She said, contemptment seeping from her lips, "We meant to tell you, but never found the right time."

With tears still dripping from her eyes and shock coating her face, Bora and Siyeon turned their back, a whispered 'sorry' coming from Siyeon's lips as they walked away hand in hand.

Now, Minji had suspicions that Siyeon was drifiting away from her, but she had talked to Siyeon about reconnecting and they had fleshed out a plan! Never in her wild imagination did she envision her girlfriend and best friend to be parading around with each other.

Minji turned around and slowly trudged back to the dorms.

Suddenly, she felt herself falling, but was abruptly stopped by muscular arms and the warm scent of sandalwood.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay? I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going! Wait. You're crying. Oh no, stupid Kim Yoohyeon, now you made her cry! Are you hurt somewhere?”

Minji looked up and found herself face to face with the warm, sweet, handsome, star of the volleyball team: Kim Yoohyeon. That explains the muscular arms. Wait. Stop thinking about her arms Minji, get it together.

As Yoohyeon was checking her over for any possible injuries, Minji snapped out of her stupor before Yoohyeon exploded from the unnecessary stress over her well-being.

"No! I'm okay yoohyeon. Well...not really, but it's not your fault," Minji calmly stated wiping the lingering tears from her eyelashes.

"Oh, that's good! Well not that your hurt, but just that I didn't aid in any more hurt." Yoohyeon slightly smiled helping Minji up and resting her hands on Minji's forearms making them tingle.

Minji smiled back. Both of them seemed to be entranced with each other as they continued to stare into each others eyes.

'Were her eyes always that deep brown?' Minji thought.

Minji and Yoohyeon shared a couple classes: world history and college algebra. They were fairly acquainted seldom speaking to each other as well as working on a group project. Of course, Minji had noticed how good looking and gentlemanly Yoohyeon was, always holding open doors, helping her classmates carry things or pull out their chair, but didn't pay too close attention as she had a girlfriend. Yoohyeon was always followed around by other girls entranced by her looks and behavior and she kindly accepted their company although respectfully rejected their advances and confessions.

"Would you be my fake girlfriend?" Minji suddenly blurted out, catching them both off guard.

"Huh?" Yoohyeon asked, eyebrows twisting dramatically in confusion.

"I-I mean- I just found out my girlfriend of two years has been cheating on me with my best friend and maybe you can get a break from your followers?" Minji stuttered out embarrassed by her blunt question, looking everywhere but the girl in front of her.

Little did she know that Yoohyeon had been harboring a crush on her since she had laid on eyes on Minji, and maybe this was a hasty decision, but it seemed like a golden oppurtunity to Yoohyeon.

"Sure," Yoohyeon said after a moment, "I wouldn't mind a break and I'm always up for a little revenge, but are you sure you want to do this? I mean, you're heart just got broken."

"Yes I am sure I want to do this. Thank you so much." Minji breathed out a sigh of relief as she squeezed Yoohyeon into a hug slightly nuzzling her face into the other girl's neck taking comfort in the warmth waiting for her there.

She did not notice the blush on Yoohyeon's face as she did so.

~~~~~~
"Oh.....what did I get myself into....." Yoohyeon groaned as she plopped onto her dorm room bed.
"What did you do this time Yooh?" Her roommate, Yubin, asked calmly as she continued to do her homework.
"I agreed to be fake girlfriends with my crush...." She muttered into the pillow.
"Kim Minji? THE Kim Minji? I thought she had a girlfriend? Lee...Siyeon was it?" Yubin pondered now turning aorund, intrigued.
"She did, but that piece of garbage had been cheating on Minji with her bestfriend." Yoohyeon sighed out, sitting up in the bed.
"So, you decided to help her get revenge then?" Yubin asked, sounding more like a statement.
"Yep. But if I'm being honest with myself I really just wanted a chance to get closer to her," Yoohyeon sighed putting her face in her hand, "We're goin to start hanging out tomorrow to get people talking."
"Isn't that too early?" Yubin asked raising her eyebrow's.
"We're just going to establish that we know eachother before we jump into the whole girlfriend thing," Yoohyeon explained gesturing wildly with her hands,"hopefully I don't dig myself too deep."
~~~~~~

"Looks like we're not the only ones who had this idea," Yoohyeon said looking around at all the other students sitting under trees or out in the warm sun hunched over their computer or notebooks.

When they found a tree with good shade, Yoohyeon pulled out the blanket and gently laid it down, dropping her bag rather roughly on top of it and lazily stretching out on the mat. She felt Minji gently sitting beside her and breathing in the crisp fresh air.

"Hey." Minji suddenly said with a teasing lilt in her voice, " Don't fall asleep. You're supposed to study."

She reached her hand over and quickly scribbled her fingers on the sliver of skin poking out from Yoohyeon's T-shirt having ridden up from stretching.

"Ah!" Yoohyeon squealed jerking away, "Heeey....I was relaxing...."

Minji smirked, pointing at Yoohyeon's bag as if to say 'study'. Yoohyeon could hear her mother's voice commanding her to do the same and pouted.

"Geez..so bossy..." Yoohyeon grumbled, sitting up to grab her books.

"You like it." Minji stated, grabbing her sketchbooks and pencil.

Yoohyeon rolled her eyes, lightly blushing.

Over the course of a few weeks they had become good friends. Yoohyeon had become better at the whole 'PDA' thing and was proud of herself for being able to cuddle with Minji without blushing. They had established their relationship on social media a week prior with multiple people expressing their excitement and dismay at the star volleyball player's now 'taken' status.

As Yoohyeon hunched over to study her notes some hair fell into her face. As she reached up to tuck it behind her ear, her hand bumped into Minji's as the other girl had also reached over, gently continuing to do so. Unfortunately, Yoohyeon had not mastered the art of not blushing at small actions like this, thus, her ears turned bright red.

"Thanks..." Yoohyeon muttered.

Minji smiled to herself now, turning her attention to her sketchbook before the girl beside her exploded from any further teasing.

She focused on drawing the golden monarch butterfly just a few feet away, and the pillowy (is that how you spell that?) white clouds, and finally the breathtaking girl beside her.

At this point, Minji was very familiar with the shape of Yoohyeon's face, but she still took her time sketching the outline of her firm jaw and beautiful eyes. She swore she had never felt more at peace with a slight breeze, warm sun, and the handsome girl beside her.

Suddenly, she felt lips whispering in her ear and a warm body beside her, "Wow..., I look amazing...You're an incredible artist"

Minji turned her head slightly and watched those endless brown eyes admire her sketch.

"I have an idea." Minji whispered, putting down her sketchbook.

She urged Yoohyeon to sit against the tree patting her knee until her legs opened and plopped herself down in between them. Then she placed her sketchbook just in frame, so you could clearly tell it was Yoohyeon and made sure that their linked hands against her waist were in clear view as well. She snapped a picture and waited until the desired people liked it before relaxing into Yoohyeon's strong arms.

"You're a genius." Yoohyeon whispered lightly kissing her cheek.

Minji felt her cheeks warm at the small action. She hadn't mastered the art either.

They drifted off into a light slumber cuddled as they were.

~~~~~~
Minji felt like she had tried everything. She kissed Yoohyeon and showed off the varsity jacket whenever they were in view of Siyeon and Bora, even passionately hugging pr making out, but no reaction was granted by Siyeon. Ever. It was clear to Minji now that Siyeon had lost care for her long before Minji caught her and there was nothing she could do except resign to her fate.
She turned to Yoohyeon with tears brimming in her eyes, "We can end this now. It didn't work."
Yoohyeon watched Minji slowly walk away trying to hold back tears.
~~~~~~

Once again, Yoohyeon flopped into her bed, her roommate swiveling in her chair with a look of confusion on her face.

"Alright, what happened? You've been smiling like a lovesick puppy for a month and a half." Yubin asked standing up and sitting next to Yoohyeon's limp body on the bed.

"She decided to end it. Siyeon doesn't care..." Yoohyeon muttered feeling an aching pain spreading throughout her chest.

"Oh....I'm so sorry Yooh....come here...." Yubin said, sympathy coating her words as she pulled Yoohyeon into a hug.

"Heh...Lee Yubin giving a hug? That's a once in a lifetime opportunity." Yoohyeon giggled leaning into her.

"Oh, shut it you big puppy." Yubin rolled her eyes, smiling.

"You know, you should take this opportunity to confess your real feelings for her. Now that she's not so hung up on Siyeon, she could be open to you." Yubin suggested, stroking her friend's hair.

"You think she even likes me?" Yoohyeon muttered, pondering the suggestion.

"Of course! You're nothing but a gentleman. Not to mention very handsome." Yubin exclaimed, looking at Yoohyeon in disbelief.

"Hmm..." Yoohyeon furrowed her eyebrows in thought, "alright. I'll confess to her tomorrow."

Yubin smiled glad that her friend was taking a chance to be with her crush.

~~~~~~
Yoohyeon panted as she jogged to the English majors building, flowers and coffee in hand. Frantically looking around for the girl of her dreams, she spotted Minji leaving through the side door.
Rushing over to her, she stopped abruptly in front of Minji.
"Yoohyeon?" Minji gasped, "What are you doing here?"
"I haven't been completely honest with you Minji." Yoohyeon said, looking her in the eyes determined to tell the girl her feelings.
"What do you mean?" Minji raised her eyebrows, her eyes sparkling with a sliver of hope.
"I said that I would become your fake girlfriend to get my followers off my back, but that wasn't true." Yoohyeon said taking a shaky breath preparing herself for what she was about to declare, "I really like you Minji and I wanted to get closer to you to maybe be able to ask this question. Would you do me the honor of allowing me to take you on a date?"
Minji stared, dumbfounded. Yoohyeon liked her? Since when? She wanted to go on a date?
Yoohyeon started to nervously fidget, waiting for a response.
"So?" she shyly asked.
"Yes-yes-yes-I would love to go on a date with you." Minji emphatically stated, smiling widely.
Yoohyeon returned the smile and gently set the gifts down before pulling Minji into a firm hug, both nuzzling into each other's warmth. Minji gripped the back of her sweatshirt as tears of happiness stung the corners of her eyes.
They both slowly pulled back before leaning in, gently pressing their lips together releasing hums of content.
Minji felt sparks tingle down her spine as Yoohyeon gently cupped the side of her face to deepen the kiss.
Finally, when they reluctantly pulled back for air their foreheads met to rest on each other as they both started to giggle with the overwhelming happiness enveloping them both.
Yoohyeon felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
