Work Text:
Crimes are what shape the negative part of our society. Whether it’s robbing a bank, spray painting a crude word on a building, or even stabbing someone, these crimes shall not be forgiven.
This rule especially applies for attempted mass genocide across an entire region.
“...a whole machine. A machine that was going to destroy the entire world, Lysandre!” A rather angry professor shouted about, as he ran into the living room of his, and this supposive Lysandre’s, home.
“Augustine, you aren’t even listening to me!” Another man followed the equally frustrated professor into that exact same living room. “I’ve been trying to tell you this entire time, it was for the great or good!”
“The great or- the great or good?!” Augustine shifted his entire body to face the taller man that was now in front of him. “Yes, because wiping out the entirety of humanity and Pokémon will make this world better! Ah, hm, yes! You are absolutely right, that makes perfect sense!”
Lysandre was starting to grow aggravated at his partner’s false perspective on his motives. His hands clenched into tight fists, attempting to contain himself from yelling even louder. Despite this, it didn’t seem to work too well in keeping him quiet. “There you go again, you not understanding a single word I have said!” He snapped back at the professor. “Besides, other people would be there. The chosen ones would-”
“Ohhh, the chosen ones, you mean the doofuses that also think blowing up the world is a good idea to make it more attractive?” Professor Sycamore raised a brow as he crossed his arms. He was attempting to look as intimidating as possible. However, it wasn’t proven very effective, as Lysandre was standing right in front of him. A tall, and rather scary looking man standing in front of him.
“Doofuses?!” He started to yell even louder than before as he waved his arms in the air. “You can’t even begin to call us such a foul name when you, yourself are quite possibly one of the dumbest people alive.”
Augustine let out a rather loud gasp as he processed the words that came out of his boyfriend’s mouth. “Dumb? Dumb?! Try calling me dumb again when I show you my college degree in Mega Evolution!” He huffed and glared up at Lysandre.
“People with college degrees can still be complete dunces, you know?” Lysandre’s expression did not seem to change, other than his eyebrow being raised. “What about that researcher from Hoenn? He had a college degree and thought it would be okay to evaporate all of the water from the world.”
“How dare you compare me to Maxie!” The professor pointed his finger at him as he shouted. “If anyone should be compared to Maxie, it should be you, Lysandre!” He moved his finger away from him and put his hand on his hip. “You both tried to wipe out certain life forms from existing and thought nothing was wrong with it! Oh, and you also have a college degree. So you’re both dumbasses!”
Now it was Lysandre’s turn to share a dramatic gasp. “Don’t compare me to that imbecile!” He put a hand up to his chest in both shock and anger. “My plan was much more developed than his could have ever been! I am a very intelligent man who doesn’t deserve to be compared to him.”
“You mean to tell me that having a more developed plan to wipe out an entire plane of existence then someone else makes you more intelligent?” Augustine raised a brow again, before scoffing and turning his head away from the taller man. “If anything, it would be an insult to Maxie to compare him to you.”
“For the last time, Augustine, it wasn’t genocide!” Lysandre started waving his arms in front of the professor again, attempting to prove his point. “It was to make the planet beautiful again, to get rid of everything ugly and wrong from this world.”
“I don’t think you would’ve gotten rid of everything ugly.” He glared at Lysandre as he tapped his watch on his wrist with his finger. “You would’ve still been on the planet, afterall.”
“Are you calling me ugly?!” Lysandre edged closer to the professor, trying to intimidate him.
“Figure it out yourself.”
“Augustine, we have been dating for a very long time, you would’ve rejected my offer to be my boyfriend if you thought I was ugly.”
Professor Sycamore’s face went into an expression of slight shock and confusion. 'Damn, he does have a point…' He thought to himself, as he shifted his eyes away from Lysandre, but he still didn’t want to admit he was right. “Well, maybe I lost attraction to you after you attempted to kill everyone! Mhm, yup!”
Lysandre just stared at him, attempting to process what he had just heard. “That doesn’t even make any sense..” He mumbled, slightly.
“Maybe it’ll make more sense if I break up with you.” Augustine immediately covered his mouth when he said those words. He didn’t actually mean it, he was just angry with Lysandre and his poor actions. It didn’t seem like Lysandre was taking his little sentence too kindly.
“I’ll go pack up my stuff, then.” He turned away from the professor and started heading towards another room.
Professor Sycamore was going to speak up and tell him how wrong he was, but he was stubborn. He didn’t want to admit to Lysandre that he was right. He was very wrong. His brain tried to convince himself that breaking up with a disturbed man like Lysandre would benefit him, so he didn’t bother saying another word to him.
Lysandre was about to head towards their bedroom that they shared, until he felt a little bump on his shoulder as he was walking. He turned around and noticed that an egg was starting to wobble in place. The egg that Lysandre and Augustine promised to parent together when it hatched. The man wasn't a cruel, heartless being and wouldn’t watch the egg tumble onto the floor and become scrambled. Lysandre quickly grabbed onto the unborn Pokémon, just as it was about to fall and gently held it in his arms.
Augustine seemed to be watching the entire time when it was all happening. Every emotion was being processed all at once as he saw the egg almost fall to the floor. The man sighed in relief as Lysandre saved the egg from near death. “Oh, thank Arceus.” He held his hand to his heart as he breathed out.
The taller man let out his own sigh of relief and he rubbed the egg with his gloved hand. Despite the egg being a symbol of his and the professor’s relationship, he was just glad the unborn Pokémon was okay.
Well, that relief both the men shared with each other didn’t last long, as the egg began to wiggle in Lysandre’s grasp. The man’s eyes widened as he looked down at the egg he was holding, and Lysandre could’ve sworn that he felt his heart stop beating for a moment. “Uh oh-”
“The egg!” Augustine gasped pretty loudly as he rushed over to Lysandre’s side. “You fool, what did you do to the poor thing?!” He looked up at the taller man and glared at him. “First mass genocide, and now you screwed up the egg!”
“What? You think this is my fault?” Lysandre looked down at his boyfriend, if that was even the correct term for him anymore, and glared right back at him. “This is clearly your fault! If you hadn't said such cruel words, then maybe the egg would’ve been okay.”
“Here we go again, you trying to put the blame on someone else,” The professor waved his hands around with an annoyed expression on his face. The egg’s shaking seemed to be getting more aggressive. “Yes, because it's never your fault, because you’re always right. Dear Arceus, you can never be wrong, huh?!”
“And there you go again with your idiotic assumptions about me!” Lysandre pointed his finger at Augustine and scoffed. “You always think I’m the bad guy here. I’m getting sick of your crude accusations about me.” The egg’s shell started to crack open as the two men argued. They both seemed to have not noticed any of the hatching Pokémon’s movements.
“I keep mentioning those accusations because they are true! You are a very terrible, cruel man-”
“Nyeeeaaaaa!!! Nyea! Nyeaaaa!!!”
The two men turned their attention towards the noise that was coming from the egg, or, rather from the Pokémon that had just hatched from the said egg.
It was a Skitty! A very upset Skitty, because the first thing she had to witness in her tiny, little world was her supposive parents arguing. “Nyeaah!” The Pokémon cried as she squirmed in Lysandre’s arms.
“Oh my Arceus-” Augustine choked back a gasp as he held the Skitty with his arms. He and Lysandre were both holding the baby Pokémon. “No no! Please don’t cry, little one! It’s okay, shhh..” He attempted to calm the Skitty down by lowering his voice down and changing his tone to something calmer.
Lysandre’s angry expression soon turned to worry and guilt as he saw the little Skitty cry in both his and the professor’s arms. “Shhhh, it’s okay. It’s okay, little bébé.” The man’s tone changed within an instance as he tried to calm the kitten Pokémon’s sobs.
The Skitty looked at both Lysandre and Professor Sycamore. It was still crying, but it seemed to have calmed down just a tad. Perhaps the two men’s fighting was the reason for the crying, and they both were well aware of it.
“Skitty…” Augustine patted her head and moved closer to Lysandre, practically leaning against him, at this point. “We didn’t mean to upset you. Look, we’re both happy dads now. Mmmm?” He started smiling at the Pokémon and nodding his head.
Lysandre glanced over at the professor for a moment, then turned his gaze back to Skitty and leaned against the man next to him. He gave out a smile of his own, both out of comfort, and slight happiness that he was sharing such an emotional experience with Augustine.
The baby Pokémon looked back and forth between Lysandre and Sycamore for a moment, then started giving them both a little smile of her own. “Nyaa! Nyeh yea!” She giggled and began squirming with joy in both of their arms.
Augustine’s face started to beam with joy, as he witnessed Skitty dance with happiness in his and Lysandre’s grasp. It was truly a moment in his life that he would never forget. He involuntarily leaned into Lysandre more, practically pressing his face up against him and squishing his own cheek. “Aww, look at you. Such an adorable little Pokémon! You have the cutest smile.”
As the professor praised the wiggly Pokémon in front of him, Lysandre came to a realization. This Skitty needed not just Augustine, and not just Lysandre, but the both of them. Together. Just how they both intended it to be before their whole argument. He watched the baby Pokémon for a little while longer, until he turned to the professor, who was tickling her tummy. “Augustine. I’ve realized something.”
Professor Sycamore didn’t realize Lysandre was talking to him at first, but then quickly moved his head off of the man and stared directly at him. “Pardon me, what have you realized, Lysandre?” He tilted his head to the side, still petting Skitty with his hand.
Lysandre looked at the Pokémon for a moment, then back at Augustine. “We can’t separate from each other. This Skitty needs us both.” He gave a few head scratches on the Skitty’s head as he glanced away from Sycamore. “And, I know you probably wouldn’t want to be around me, but-”
“Lysandre, ignore what I said earlier.” The shorter man put a hand on Lysandre’s shoulder, trying to give him a reassuring smile. “I wasn’t thinking about my choice of words. I may not agree with what you did, but I still want you in my life. Even if this Skitty wasn’t here with us, I still want to be with you.”
Despite all of the sweet words he had heard from Augustine before, he had never gotten this flustered from him before. Perhaps the argument that happened not even five minutes ago between the two might’ve been a reason to make him all red. “Augustine…” He mumbled a little as he put an arm around his waist. He began to smile at him as he pulled his lover closer to him. “I feel the same way with you. I know we don’t agree on everything, but sometimes our differences make our conversations more interesting and fun.”
“Like our conversations about crocs with socks?” Sycamore grinned as he tilted his head to the side.
“Besides that one.” Lysandre rolled his eyes, but in a more playful manner. “What I’m trying to say here is that I want to be with you still. I understand you were mad. I guess…” He couldn’t believe he was admitting this to the professor. “...I guess my machine was a little dangerous to the environment.”
A small smirk appeared across Augustine’s face. “Ah, so you finally admit that I’m right?”
Lysandre let out a scoff, but he was still smiling. “Yeah, I guess I am. You know that you’re an intelligent man, you are right most of the time.”
The professor started to laugh. “You flatter me too much, you know that, mon cher?” He pulled the man closer to him.
Before Lysandre could respond to his partner’s comment, the Pokémon that the two were holding started wiggling around again. “Nyaah! Nyea!” The Skitty was waving its little legs around, begging for attention from her parents.
The taller man laughed at the baby Pokémon and poked its cheek, playfully. “She seems to be a little bit of an attention seeker. Takes after someone I know.” He grinned at Augustine, then gave him a wink.
The professor laughed a little and pulled on Lysandre’s cheek. “What? Her own father?”
“My boyfriend,” He moved his face closer to his partner's, still having that cheerful expression on his face. “Who also happens to be the father of this Skitty.”
“I’m just making sure I know which father you are referring to, mon amour.” The professor rubbed Lysandre’s cheek for a moment, before pulling him into a brief kiss. It was nice to share such a tender and caring moment after a nasty fight.
Lysandre pulled his face away from Augustine's and smiled at him. “Hm, let's not waste anymore time and leave Skitty to watch us kiss.” He looked back down at the Pokémon and patted her head. “Wouldn’t you agree with me, little one?”
“Nyeaahh!! Nye nyea!” The Skitty wiggled in place, nodding her head around. It seemed like she was agreeing with Lysandre’s statement.
Professor Sycamore let out another gleeful laugh as he watched the Pokémon’s reaction. “Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's go see if we can find some yarn and stuffies for Skitty.” He turned around and held onto Lysandre’s hand before walking to the living room.
Lysandre intertwined their fingers together and followed the professor, still holding onto the baby Pokémon in his other arm. “I’m sure I have some old toys that Pyroar used to play with when he was a little Litleo.” He hummed a note, trying to think of where those toys might be.
“Aww, like little hand me downs!" Augustine cooed and turned back to look at Lysandre, then Skitty. ”You’re going to be getting some of your big brother’s toys! Aren’t you excited?”
“Nyeaaaahah!” The Skitty exclaimed with joy, squirming in Lysandre’s arms with excitement.
Perhaps some crimes can be forgiven. Forgiven through the power of Skitty.
