the sunlight shines a little brighter, the weight of the world’s a little lighter, the stars lean in a little closer, all because of you

Summary:

Kira's hair had lightened considerably, or at least that's what Natasha swore.

However, her eyes remained large, round, and a grayish green. The iris was outlined by a darker hue, but they didn't quite reach the grape green of Wanda's. In color, they were strikingly similar to Natasha's. And although in shape, they could resemble those of her other mother, she was still too small to risk deciding from whom she had inherited her gaze.

However, there was no doubt about her little nose.

Kira's hair had lightened considerably, or at least that's what Natasha swore by.

However, there was no doubt about her nose. Wanda burst into laughter every time Natasha made any mention of it. Irina had provided the necessary photo archives of Wanda right after she was born to prove that, indeed, that nose was unmistakably Maximoff. And Natasha loved looking at those photos. She really could spend hours counting the countless similarities between her daughter and the love of her life.

Of course, it was clear that physical appearance was not the most important thing for either of them. But they couldn't ignore the fact that they had created a completely beautiful girl who brought together the most beautiful features of both mothers.

Kira was only two weeks old, and everything was on track for her to be a very charming baby. A simple smile from her chubby lips made everyone in her family drool over her.

"I've never met such a cheerful baby, dear. She's too young to smile so much," Melina remarked one afternoon as she held her in her arms, Alexei by her side, making faces at her.

Natasha nodded, like a proud mother. "She's beautiful, and she loves charming everyone." She smiled, looking at her parents so enchanted by their granddaughter.

“She got that from you," Wanda said playfully, extending her hand to take Natasha's and squeezing it affectionately.

Natasha furrowed her brow, "You think so?" she asked uncertainly.

"Of course. You're charming without even trying." Wanda replied tenderly.

Family afternoons had been a common occurrence since Kira's birth. Sometimes they were visited by the Romanoffs, sometimes by the Maximoffs. Many times, they organized gatherings all together, which filled Wanda's heart with an uncontrollable amount of love. She remembered how terrified she had been to tell her mother that she was pregnant with Natasha at first. She remembered the arguments they had because they couldn't get over her ex-boyfriend, with whom Wanda had been for such a long time, and normally, her parents had become very fond of him. She remembered that loss that had completely destroyed them as a family.

But there she saw her mother and Melina taking turns to shower their daughter with kisses and affection, and then everything was worth it. And although Irina and Oleg's smiles had lost a certain sparkle for a while, when they held Kira in their arms, that sparkle returned and was completed with a love impossible to explain in words. Because mother's love is probably the purest and immeasurable of all. But she would never underestimate grandmother's love.

"Well, it's time for Kira to come to her favorite aunt," Yelena complained, looking at her mother and extending her arms to reach for the baby.

And now it was time for Kate and Yelena to shower Kira with love. Wanda had read millions of articles where one of the most common feelings mothers experienced in the postpartum period, aside from the terrible fatigue, was jealousy. Many mothers expressed the desire to cuddle with their children without anyone bothering them, including the co-parent.

Sokovian as she was, Wanda was already somewhat jealous by nature. However, she understood that Kira was the first baby in the family, and of course, there was a lot of excitement and love to go around from everyone. So, fortunately, she hadn't felt those jealousies yet.

Besides, she felt that when she breastfed, it created a completely special connection with Kira, something that, for example, Natasha couldn't experience. But the physical recognition she felt from her daughter was inevitable. Having been inside her for 9 months had its rewards, of course. And Natasha understood that completely.

Natasha loved that moment when she could watch Wanda breastfeeding Kira, where her little hand spread out against her mother's chest, and her eyes, the same shade of green she had recognized in her great love's gaze for so long, looked at Wanda with so much tenderness, almost as if thanking her for providing that nourishment.

There were times when Natasha didn't want to interrupt that exchange of glances between mother and daughter, feeling more like butterflies in her stomach than the time when Wanda admitted to being in love with her years ago. But other times, she couldn't help but lean on Wanda's shoulder, and then those little eyes, identical to her own, looked at her. If she made a funny face, Kira would smile, and milk would dribble from her lips, and Wanda would get annoyed while wiping her with a bib. But she really loved those moments they shared, just the three of them. Alone. Sharing the family intimacy they both cherished.

"The color of her hair is really unusual," Kate observed. "It's brown, but it turns reddish in the light."

"Nat thinks she might become a redhead," Wanda commented, laughing. "I wouldn't mind if she did, but I'd like to share some other traits with the baby I carried for nine months, you know?" She added playfully, making her family laugh.

"It's clear she looks more like Nat, yes," Yelena accepted, holding the baby who was attentively looking around. "Sorry, Wands, she's a Romanoff from the tip of her hair to her chubby little toes."

Wanda laughed, "Maybe with the next one, I'll get a bit more lucky with the gene distribution," she commented casually.

It was evident that the desire to expand the family existed, and it seemed that it wasn't a desire shared only by Wanda and Natasha.

"Damn, I want a baby like this, love," Kate whispered to her girlfriend, who initially looked at her in surprise. But then she nodded. Of course, she also wanted to start her own family with her one true love.
