Chapter Text
“Deku! Over here!”
Izuku turned away from Hitoshi to look at the reporter calling his attention.
“How do you feel about the arsonist being found guilty on all accounts?” The reporter asked, holding a microphone out towards him as the cameraman behind them focused the camera on him.
Izuku gave the camera his best sunshine smile. “This is the only outcome to be expected of the situation. We had too much evidence for the trial to go any other way.”
“Did you hear about the new law that the Prime Minister implemented this morning?” They asked.
Izuku tilted his head. “I haven’t had the chance to even look at my phone today. I’ve been a bit tied up at the trial, unfortunately.”
“He implemented a new anti-discriminatory law,” the reporter explained. “He said that the heroes and other leaders in society have inspired him to make society a safer place for the LGBT+ community.”
Izuku’s eyebrows couldn’t have risen any further as he gaped at the reporter. “Hitoshi!” He yelled, grabbing his boyfriend’s arm. “Toshi, did you hear that? We did that!”
Hitoshi laughed. “Thank you for informing us. This is wonderful news.”
The reporter laughed and turned to Kacchan to try and ask him questions about the trial and new law as well.
“I can’t believe this!” Izuku said. “We caught the Prime Minister's attention!”
“I think it’d be hard not to have caught his attention with how big this case got,” Aizawa said, walking up to them. “But either way, I’m proud of you both. Not only are you amazing heroes, but you’re changing society. You’ll both make it into the history books one day.”
“Oh gods,” Hitoshi said with a shudder. “Don’t say that.”
Aizawa laughed and ruffled their hair. “No more big cases for a while, okay? This was too much stress for me.”
“What, you getting old or something?” Kacchan asked, having escaped from the reporter.
Aizawa raised an eyebrow at him. “You all gave me gray hairs when you were students. Each big mission that each of you takes only gives me more.”
“You’re just a softy under all your gruffness,” Kacchan scoffed. “We can take care of ourselves y’know.”
“Of course you can,” Aizawa said. “I wouldn’t have let you graduate otherwise.”
“We love you too, Dadzawa,” Hitoshi said before running away. Izuku laughed and followed quickly after him with Aizawa hot on their tail.
The arsonist was paying for his crimes and everything was finally setting back to normal.
The phone rang again and Hitoshi glared at it. One more ring and he was going to-
“Hey! What’s up?” Izuku asked, finally answering the call.
“First, you almost let the call go to voicemail. Rude,” Hitoshi said, turning his attention away from his phone back to the computer. “Second, when you asked if I could finish the bouquet orders, I didn’t think that there was going to be ten of them!”
Izuku laughed. “Hun, it’s proposal and wedding season. What did you expect?”
“Oh, don’t you ‘hun’ me,” Hitoshi pouted. “How long is this interview going to even take?”
“I’m not sure, but they’re calling me on stage, so I really gotta go now. I love you!” Izuku said.
“Love you too, brat. Bye,” Hitoshi said, letting Izuku hang up the phone. He looked at the computer again and sighed. At least the shop was closed so he didn’t have to worry about customers coming in.
The first order was easy enough, stating exactly what flowers were needed.
The second order gave him a color scheme and said that it was for an anniversary, so that didn’t take too long either.
The third one just said ‘white wedding’ and Hitoshi skipped it because who orders a bouquet and just writes ‘white wedding’? Izuku could deal with that one when he got back.
The fourth bouquet was trickier in the sense that they were out of one of the flowers requested, so he had to call their supplier to get the flowers delivered the next day before the bouquet got picked up.
The fifth bouquet just gave a color scheme, so Hitoshi picked out random flowers and created a bouquet, but he put it in a vase in case Izuku wanted to adjust it later.
After that he took a break for an hour to put some more time into a commission drawing for a tattoo. The customer had requested a pokemon tattoo of Eevee with a flower crown and he was adding flowers around the tattoo as well.
The sixth bouquet was for a wedding with wine red and white for the colors. That one was easy enough, especially since the bride requested specific flowers to be added.
The seventh bouquet was for another wedding, this time in forest green and white. The only additional request was the exclusion of roses, which made the bouquet a lot easier.
The eighth bouquet was for a proposal with the color request of blue which was interesting, but he made it work.
The ninth bouquet was for an anniversary again. They requested the addition of at least one calla lily with 6 flowers on the stem, which was a fun side quest for Hitoshi as he dug through their collection. He was able to include six stems of calla lilies that each had six flowers on them.
The tenth bouquet was yet another proposal bouquet. They requested purple roses for the commitment to a long term relationship, coneflower for strength and healing, and ferns for protection and happiness. Hitoshi added some baby’s breath to symbolize more love and also add contrast between the two bold colors. He wrapped it in green paper and tied it off with a purple ribbon and went back to the computer, collapsing in the chair when he realized that he was finally done for the day.
“Hey Toshi,” Izuku said, walking through the door.
“Was that not locked?” Hitoshi asked, not bothering to sit up.
Izuku laughed. “No, anyone could’ve just walked right on in since I left apparently.” He made a show of locking the door before walking up to the counter and pulling out his wallet.
“What are you doing?” Hitoshi asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Paying for the bouquet I ordered, of course,” Izuku said.
Hitoshi sat up as he ran through all the bouquets he’d made. “And which one would that be?”
“You seriously didn’t even question the color scheme?” Izuku asked, tilting his head.
“You- wh- oh .” Hitoshi slumped further back into the chair as he felt his face heating up.
“I just have one last touch to add to it,” Izuku said. He walked over and pulled the bouquet out of the fridge and put something inside of it before walking back over to Hitoshi who had started shaking his head.
“Shinsou Hitoshi,” Izuku said, dropping to one knee in front of Hitoshi’s chair and holding out the bouquet which now displayed a gorgeous silver ring with inlaid emeralds and amethyst. “You are the Hades to my Persephone. You stayed with me through the loss of my mom and helped me rebuild my life. We’re partners, we’re boyfriends, but I want to be more. As Persephone married Hades, will you accept my proposal and let me marry you?”
Tears streamed down Hitoshi’s face as he nodded and pulled his boyfri- no, fiance up to kiss him. “As Persephone brought light and life into Hades’ life, so did you brighten mine. You match my energy as Persephone helped rule the dead alongside Hades and I hope that we can forever keep this balance of light and dark. I don’t have a kingdom to rule with you, but I hope that by accepting this proposal, we shall make the world our own and rule each day of our lives by each other’s side.”
Izuku was crying now too, which was only fair… and expected. “I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you too,” Hitoshi said as Izuku slipped the ring onto Hitoshi’s finger. “But also, you’re still a brat.”
“What!” Izuku protested. “I- you- bouquet! Proposal!”
Hitoshi laughed and reached into his pocket, pulling out a ring box. “I was planning on having a romantic dinner tonight and doing the same to you.”
Izuku burst out laughing with a fresh wave of tears.
“But, really, Izu,” Hitoshi said as he slipped the ring he’d gotten for Izuku onto his finger. “We have to be at the restaurant in an hour.”
“Hitoshi!” Izuku screamed before scrambling up the stairs to get ready.
Hitoshi chuckled, but sobered up as he looked down at the ring on his finger, a soft smile growing.
“Rebecca, this is our lovely Hitoshi,” Aiden said, pulling her towards the couple. “He’s a grumpy pessimist and a hopeless romantic.”
“You really have the oddest ways of describing personalities,” Rebecca sighed.
“He’s my fiance,” Izuku offered with a shrug, trying his hardest not to dance with happiness at the new term. “We went to school together and he helped me a lot after my mom died and also when I finally went back to Japan.”
Rebecca nodded. “Yeah, I know. Henry told us all about how cute the two of you are.” Aiden made gagging motions, but Rebecca ignored her and stepped closer, sticking out her hand. “I’m Rebecca, the secretary here and also the one that was in charge of keeping these two out of too much trouble.”
“Hey!” Izuku and Aiden protested at the same time.
Hitoshi chuckled and shook the girl’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you. And thank you for helping Izuku while he was out here.”
“It was no problem at all,” Rebecca said, pulling Izuku into a side hug. Izuku rested his head on hers. “He really grows on you quickly.”
Hitoshi nodded. “I made the mistake of saying that I wasn’t at UA to make friends and it became his life mission to win me over. I lasted one week.”
“Izuku’s office is long since cleared out, but I just have to show you a picture in my office,” Aiden said, pushing them all towards the elevators. Luckily, Aiden had thought ahead and brought somebody with her to cover Rebecca’s shift so that she could join them for a couple of hours to catch up.
“Not that I’m not stoked to see you again, but what brought you back?” Rebecca asked as they all got in the elevator.
“Well, first off I promised Aiden and Henry that I’d make a trip soon,” Izuku said. “Second, we decided that we needed a vacation to celebrate our proposal.”
“Ignore him. The real reason we’re here is because we forced him to take time off of work after the arsonist was dealt with,” Hitoshi added.
“Are you going to run over here every time that they suspend you from work?” Aiden laughed.
“No, you ass ,” Izuku said, lightly hitting her shoulder. “I figured that if both of us were suspended from work, then we could make a trip out here to relax. So, I convinced Aizawa to make Hitoshi take a break with me.”
“San Francisco is not really known as a relaxing place,” Rebecca said, scrunching her nose.
“Big cities always have relaxing areas though,” Hitoshi pointed out.
Rebecca shrugged. “You got me there.”
The elevator dinged and they arrived at the proper floor. Izuku ended up losing the three of them as a crowd of his old hero coworkers demanded to know why he was back, how Japan was, and why he left in such a rush in the first place. It took him at least ten minutes to disengage from his old friends, but he found Hitoshi laughing at pictures that Aiden was showing of Izuku plastered at their old company parties.
“Didn’t think you’d ever be a party boy,” Hitoshi said when he noticed Izuku.
Izuku just sighed and plopped onto Aiden’s desk, knowing there was no way to stop this. “I can’t decide if this is worse than Auntie showing Henry and Aiden all of my baby pictures or the other way around.”
“Either way, you have no way of stopping it,” Aiden said smugly.
Izuku rolled his eyes. “I’m univiting you to the wedding.”
“Oh really?” Aiden asked.
“Really,” Izuku said with a smirk.
“3, 2, 1,” Rebecca sounded off. As soon as she said ‘one’ Izuku took off running down the hallway with Aiden hot on his tail.
Even if he had only come to California to escape bad memories, he had filled the place with good memories and hoped that he and Hitoshi could make even more in the years to come.
