girl's night

Summary:

Ling Wen is overworked. Shi Qingxuan has a plan.

Notes:

Hi! I hope you enjoy this!

I like to use she/her and he/him pronouns for Shi Qingxuan most of the time. In this fic, only she/her are used due to the form Shi Qingxuan is in.

This is set probably just a bit before Xie Lian's third ascension.

Work Text:

“Ling Wen! Ling Wen-zhenjun!”

Ling Wen had been contemplating whether she could get away with strangling the next person to bring her a problem. The answer was most likely no, although she’d wager that Jun Wu would let her get away with a great deal as long as the Heavenly Court kept running smoothly. Unfortunately, the particular person who now required her attention was someone who would be missed, and she would never do that to Shi Wudu.

Sighing, Ling Wen looked up to see Shi Qingxuan, dressed up and donning her female form.

“Can I help you, Lady Windmaster?” Ling Wen asked, not bothering to hide the exhaustion in her voice.

“I’m here to help you, actually!” Shi Qingxuan said, beaming at Ling Wen with the kind of energy that made people tired just to look at. “I’m here to take you on a girl’s day!”

Ling Wen stared blankly at the Windmaster. Had she really just heard that? A girl’s day? First of all, what made Shi Qingxuan think that Ling Wen had the time or inclination to get dragged out for whatever Shi Qingxuan thought a “girl’s day” should entail? Second of all, Shi Qingxuan didn’t even like Ling Wen. She thought Shi Wudu had bad taste in friends. So why would she offer Ling Wen a social invite?

“Why?” Ling Wen asked finally.

Shi Qingxuan pouted, but she didn’t deny that Ling Wen had a reason to ask. “I know you and I aren’t friends, but gege has been stressed recently, and he won’t let me help him! So I thought he’d be less stressed if his friends were less stressed, and I’d rather help you have some fun than Pei Ming.”

The thing was, Shi Qingxuan wasn’t wrong. Shi Wudu had been stressed lately, although Ling Wen hadn’t realized that it had gotten bad enough for Shi Qingxuan to seek her out voluntarily. Ling Wen had been too busy sorting out the latest incredible mess someone had managed to create.

They can handle it their fucking selves for a few hours, she decided impulsively. And if there was anything the Young Lord Who Poured Wine was good for…

“Fine,” she said out loud. “You’re bringing the alcohol.”
