Kiss It Better

Summary:

“Please explain something to me,” Iruka asked sounding exasperated. “If you’re the best shinobi our village has to offer, why do you always come back injured from every mission?”

Notes:

So… I’ve read hundreds of kkir fics since I joined the fandom and in most of them Kakashi returns from his missions injured. While I love me some hurt/comfort it got me thinking why the best shinobi Konoha has to offer almost never comes back unscathed even in the anime and this little drabble was born on my notes app.

This is not beta’d so if you find any spelling/grammar mistakes please let me know so I can correct them and provide you with a better reading experience 😊

Work Text:

“Please explain something to me,” Iruka asked sounding exasperated. “If you’re the best shinobi our village has to offer, why do you always come back injured from every mission?”

Kakashi had the fucking gall to eye smile at him so Iruka had to tamper down the impulse to hit the man already bleeding on his bathroom floor.

“For the same reason you have scars littered all over your body,” Kakashi replied quizzically.

Iruka frowned slightly. “I don’t follow…”

“What’s the cause of 98% of your injuries?” he asked instead.

“Excited pre-genin with shit aim learning how to throw sharp objects,” Iruka said, channeling a little bit more healing chakra to a particular nasty gash on Kakashi’s leg.

Kakashi nodded pleased with the answer.

“Mine is kinda similar,” he started explaining. “As mission captain my main goal is to make sure everyone under my command gets back home alive. If I have to take a kunai to a leg or take the brunt of an attack in order to make sure someone from my team survives I will.”

Iruka sighed. Of course Kakashi would put the life of others above his own. Iruka would do the exact same and that’s why he’s had more close calls than most shinobis on active duty.

“Okay that’s actually a pretty good excuse,” he conceded and finished closing up the gash. “I still don’t like it though…”

“I also don’t like it when you get home and tell me how close you were to losing an ear this time or how being hit with only four shuriken while protecting your students showed how much they have improved over the last couple of weeks,” Kakashi replied nonchalantly. “But I don’t say it because I’m not an hypocrite.”

Iruka snorted. “I’m still gonna talk to Tsunade and ask her to send you only on solo missions for a while.”

“Oh, please do!” Kakashi laughed. “I’d love to see Tsunade’s reaction to you bossing her around.”

Iruka chuckled as he finished patching Kakashi up. “All done,” he announced.

“There’s something missing,” Kakashi complained. Iruka could tell he was pouting underneath his mask.

“What?” Iruka played along.

“You haven’t kissed it better,” he replied.

Iruka couldn’t help the smile tugging at the corner of his lip. Kakashi, the most feared man in Konoha, asking him to kiss him better. As usual he caved rather quickly.

“Come here you big idiot.”

Iruka tugged Kakashi closer by his flack jacket, pulled his mask down and finally leaned in to properly kiss his boyfriend. He’d be as good as new tomorrow with how many times Iruka was planning to kiss him better.
