“Date-san!” Gotou said in exasperation, doing a fast power walk thing to keep up with Date, who was taking long strides to get to his target, an oden cart he hadn’t seen before.
“Come on, Gotou-chan, a break is good for you!” Date said with a laugh, his eyes crinkling up in the way Gotou knew that meant he thought his husband was being extra cute.
Gotou sighed and fell in step with Date, allowing a few seconds of hair tousling before swatting his hand away.
“Welcome,” said the cart owner once they reached it. There were customers there already: two young men, one in a delivery outfit and one in an outfit that was very, very blue. Gotou blinked at it, wondering for a second if that the Greeed were expanding, before shaking his head and sitting next to Date.
“Surprised by the youngsters, again, Gotou-chan?” Date asked, nearly nudging Gotou off his chair. “Whoops.” He grabbed Gotou by his vest and hauled him up.
“What would you like?”
“Oh, whatever you recommend,” Date said with his winning smile.
The cart owner, an older man with glasses, smiled back. “You’re just like Tarou and Noi-chan, aren’t you?”
At the sounds of their names, the two customers looked up.
“Oh? You two like oden too?” Date asked. “Good and hearty, isn’t it?”
“Yes. That makes us have a bond, then," the guy in the delivery suit said.
“You hear that, Gotou-chan? A bond!”
“I hear it,” Gotou muttered. It sounded a bit like Hino’s reaching-out-a-hand out thing. Did that make the blue guy with feathers a desire kaijin too?
The cart owner gave Date his bowl. “And for you?”
Gotou looked at the choices and gave his order, finding that it was nearly as good as his and Date’s usual cart.
“So, you’re a delivery boy for Shirokuma Express?” Date asked around a mouthful of konjac. “They have good service!”
The Shirokuma employee nodded before asking the cart owner for more eggs and radish. Date wasn’t offended at all, instead digging into his oden. Gotou could feel the searching look of the blue guy, a bit like Ankh, but somehow…opposite.
“Noi-chan, do you want more too?” The cart owner asked.
Well, that made the blue guy…Noi? And Tarou was the delivery service boy. Not that it really mattered to Gotou.
“So you guys are buddies?” Date asked.
“Sworn enemies,” Tarou said calmly. “Since he is a Nouto and I am the descendent of the Don Clan.”
“Ah, kinda like Hino and Anko, then, huh?”
Gotou frowned. “I don’t think they declared themselves ‘sworn enemies’, though.”
Date shrugged, flashing a grin at Gotou and winking at him.
Something seemed to capture Tarou and Noi’s attention, both of them pushing their bowls back and dropping their money on the table. Tarou brought out a yellow gun out of nowhere, and it was like the two of them had disappeared. Gotou exchanged a glance with Date before shrugging.
“Oh, did Tarou and Noi-chan leave?” asked the cart owner.
“Seemed like something came up,” Date said. “Kinda like it would come up for us, huh, Gotou-chan?”
“Don’t remind me,” Gotou grumbled.
“Ah, but Gotou-chan, that’s how we met!”
