Guns are pointed at him, but he can barely lift his sword. She laughs derisively.
“You done already? Bet if you ran back home with that sorry face they’d pity you enough to accept you right away.”
Shirley is right but Cedric doesn’t want that at all. He wants anything but that.
Cedric has worked hard before, been physically and mentally exhausted, but this is the first time he’s worked hard for his own sake, for a choice he’s made freely. If he gives up…

He grits his teeth, stands up, and fights.
Kurt’s hands are still stinging hours later. He normally enjoys a hard rock climb, but he’s never done one so desperately before.

Attending Thors Branch Academy was not a mistake. Joining Class VII was not a mistake. In fact, it was exactly what he needed in order to see. In order to become who he truly wants to be.
