Work Text:

Gabriel had a child, a nephilim. It was a well kept secret, as the archangel did not want anyone to make an attempt on their life. They were what mattered the most to him, and he was doing all he could to protect his kid from everything. The world was dangerous. Heaven? Hell? All the same, if anybody knew, they would be in utter danger. Therefore he tried to keep them protected. He was good to create fake realities, so he hid them as much as he could, from their birth to these days.

However, as they grew up, he knew he could not hide them from the Earth for so long. Gabriel wanted to wait for a special moment to show what he loved the most from his own father’s creation — the human world. He had showed them bits and let them out sometimes for rare moments.

He had trained them to have some control about their power, it worked well, which reassured him, nobody was going to be hurt. He also knew that if they had to, they could use their abilities to protect themselves.

Needless to say, he had never been so proud of anything in his life, and he truly had felt his fatherhood at this particular moment, with his beloved Y/N.

This day was the special day Gabriel had waited for, probably even more than the nephilim themselves. He knocked at his kid’s room, he was happy to find them still asleep, he did not even have the heart to wake them up, although he knew he had to.

He pulled the curtains so the light was brightening up the room. Some photos framed on the walls were now fully visible, it was mostly pictures of them both together, on a few, Castiel and Balthazar were visible with their nibling — they were the only two who knew — and seeing those pictures made him smile, his whole family.

“Morning, cutipie!” Gabriel said with the biggest grin as he kissed their forehead before ruffling their H/C hair. “Happy birthday!”

“Dad! It’s too early!” Y/N mumbled as they rolled in their bedsheet even more.

“It’s never too early to celebrate a birthday.” He pouted a little. “As it’s your seventeenth birthday… I thought of a little surprise for you. And by little, I mean huge surprise.”

“Surprise?” Suddenly the nephilim’s eyes were wide open, now curious about what their father had on his mind.

“For that you gotta be up. Wear something you like, we’re going out for the day.”

Out?!” They repeated in disbelief. “Do you mean out like outside?”

“Yuppers. You’re old enough, and I’ve been really proud of you and how you’ve worked out with your lil’ powers of yours, as you perfected the ability to hide your angelic side, I know you will be safe.” He explained very proudly.

“You mean… there won’t be either Uncle Cassie or Uncle Balthy to watch over me?” They asked still shocked, they were used to go outside only with their uncles.

“Nope. Only me. I thought we could spend some dad kiddo time, unless you want them to be there too?” He paused. “That’s fully okay too, it’s your day, bubblegum.”

“You’re kidding? Of course I want some time with you, we’re the best greatest chaotic duo ever!” They grinned.

Gabriel chuckled. He was glad to be able to make his teen happy. Them getting quickly up to hug him was the best gesture of love he could have hoped for. He hugged them back tightly as well. Their wings were touching, it was part of their hugging rituals.

Gabriel had a few golden feathers in his white immaculate wings, whereas Y/N had full golden wings with a few white streaks.

“Love you my cupcake.”

“Love you too.” They replied back. “Dad?” They asked after a minute.

“Yeah?”

“Never stop with the pet names, please.” They pouted for a few seconds before smiling.

“Promise, I won’t stop unless you tell me to.” He gently pinched their cheek.

They always loved their father using nicknames, it had always made them feel special. They were right, to Gabriel, they were the most special being of all creation. He could have given everything to them in a finger snap.

“I’ll prepare you some breakfast and then we’ll go, okay?” Gabriel continued.

Prepare? You? The actual Trickster?” They scoffed.

“Come when you’re ready and you’ll see.” He winked looking proud of himself.

Gabriel vanished out of the room, and Y/N quickly changed from their pyjamas to their casual clothes. They were curious about what their father was planning.

They decided to wear a F/C t-shirt with little embroidered bees around the area of their heart — a gift from Castiel a few years back — a flannel shirt — Balthazar always laughed about it because of how much they had a hunter look even though they had only heard about the Winchesters from Uncle Cassie — and an usual pair of jeans.

When they finally went to what they both used as a ‘kitchen’ as neither of them were usually cooking, they were shocked to see Gabriel with an apron which seemed to have been actually used.

“I already baked a cake for you. If it isn’t good don’t tell me.” The archangel laughed. “For real, tell me and I’ll make something else appear.”

The cake was a three-tier one, covered in frosting and fondant. It had small smileys on it, it was rainbow coloured, and had a wonky lettering on top Happy birthday Y/N with a big heart next to it. They were moved, they were aware that Gabriel was always outdoing himself to make them happy as much as he could and they were always almost tearing up as he was fully nailing it.

“Oh crap I forgot the most important thing!” He cried out looking at the cake.

“What, dad?” They asked tilting their head.

“Candles! We can’t have a birthday cake without candles!”

Gabriel snapped his fingers and candles appeared on the cake which made Y/N chuckle. He snapped his fingers again to make them light up.

Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you my dear Y/N,
happy birthday to you!
” Gabriel sang. “Blow out the candles and make a wish.” He looked at them lovingly.

The nephilim blew out the candles and then closed their eyes. I wish my dad and I to be happy. They wished with all their strength.

As Gabriel cut the cake, Y/N was amazed. All the layers had different colours and it looked almost perfect. When they tasted it, it felt mind blowing. It was everything they liked, the flavours were perfectly blending together.

“Dad, it’s so good!” They exclaimed.

Gabriel smiled as he was reassured and also took a spoonful of cake in his mouth.

“Very glad you like it, like father like kiddo, you have a great taste when it comes to everything sweet.” He was proud.

Once they were done, Gabriel waited for Y/N to be ready and then they appeared directly in a city. They were holding their father’s hand and the archangel was holding theirs tightly.

The nephilim was amazed, usually when they came to what they considered to be the real world, they always had to avoid crowded places. Anything was so new to them, they looked at everything with shiny eyes. Gabriel was incredibly happy to see them like that.

He showed them what he liked the most, humanity itself of course, candy stores. As they both went out of the stores they both had a big bag of candies each, and all the way they ended up munching on sweets.

Then Gabriel brought Y/N to Disneyland. The archangel knew it was his kid dream and he wanted their day to be the most special of all. To make it even more incredible he brought them to France — what they were not aware of was that Gabriel was planning to slowly bring them to every Disneyland but that was a surprise he had still in his sleeves for later.

Gabriel managed to get them an ‘it’s my birthday’ badge and attached it to Y/N’s flannel. They were ecstatic as every cast member were wishing them a happy birthday.

“Can you believe it, dad? That’s so cool!” They had a huge smile.

“That’s your special day, gumdrop.” He also smiled as he ruffled their hair gently once again.

They managed to do all the rides from both parks — a little bit of angelic powers helped — and Y/N was ecstatic. They ended up getting all the photographs from the rides printed, the nephilim loved seeing their dad and themselves having genuine faces of happiness on it.

Y/N was already thinking about the pictures hanging up on their walls, especially the ones from Hyperspace Mountain and the Tower of Terror because of Gabriel’s facial expression which was utterly priceless.

At the end of the day, Gabriel brought them to the Walt’s, the fanciest restaurant of the resort. For the archangel, nothing was too fancy for his kid, their happiness was all that mattered. And he was happy that it seemed to work fairly well, he could see Y/N’s grace shining very bright in a pure beam of light.

As the grande finale of the day, they ended up watching the fireworks and the mapping show on the Sleeping Beauty Castle. The nephilim was once again impressed, to them it looked like small shiny colourful stars.

They remembered as a child when their father was making little bright sort of sparkling fireworks with his hands to make them happy, they felt incredibly nostalgic as they rested their head on Gabriel’s shoulder.

He looked at them, he was incredibly moved. His small child was growing up. He rested his head against theirs. This moment was marked in their minds forever, even Y/N was aware that this would become one of their core memory.

When the fireworks ended, they both went into a tight hug.

“Thanks, dad.” They whispered.

“You don’t have to thank me, jellybean. Anything for you. Let’s go back home, I have one last surprise which is awaiting for you.”

“Another one?” They gasped.

“Of course.” He winked.

They went out of the park slowly hands in hands before vanishing to their pocket fakish reality which was their home.

“Close your eyes, sugarplum.” Gabriel said.

Y/N did as they were told. They were excited to discover what their father was plotting. It was only when they heard small meows that they were grinning knowing exactly what it was.

“I guess you can open your eyes now.” He chuckled.

A kitten was on the table, meowing at them.

“You’re responsible enough to take care of her and I know you told me you wanted a pet multiple times, so I thought about it and decided that I could grant you that wish. I mean, I might have found her alone in the streets as I was having a bit of fun as being Loki.” He shrugged.

Y/N chuckled, they loved seeing their father like this, even if he was all jokes, tricks and pranks, he was big-hearted. He did not like to show this soft side much, however they fully knew it was there, and they were happy to be able to see it.

“Does she have a name?” Y/N asked.

“Nope. Your choice, honey bun.”

The nephilim had a few seconds of thoughts before blurting out “Heaven!”

“Why?” Gabriel looked surprised.

“Because I know you miss it and I won’t replace it but… we’re our family and we’re here. Me and her.” They held the kitten, Heaven looked at the archangel with big round eyes. “Also uncles Cassie and Balthy of course.” They finally added.

“Oh… Y/N…” Gabriel petted the kitten’s head before hugging his child once again. “Thank you.”

“No dad, thank you for being there for me.”

“Happy birthday, my little trickster-to-be.”

That was how Y/N knew Gabriel would alway be there for them, and with now a new member in their family added, they knew a great year was ahead, full of great surprises as now they could freely roam on Earth.
