Let's Begin!

Let's Begin!

2017, Autumn.

The path was pitch dark as the headlights of a car flashed on the road. Boyoung clenched the steering and hit the accelerator. Her short brown hair was messed up, her deep round eyes were moist and her delicate lips were quivering. She was trying to run away from the worst feeling of her life. Betrayal had ripped her heart out. As she passed every house, every tree, every pole, and every garden on the way, she desperately hoped that her past would stay behind her. Hardly did she know that it wasn't so simple.

A wrong turn and lack of focus made her lose control of the wheels. Boyoung squeezed her eyes shut as she realized she was going to hit a pole. But the horrors of her life scared her more than the horror of death.

2020, Spring,

Boyoung felt a jerk in her heart as she came out of the horrifying memories of her accident three years ago. She looked around her living room and the couch she was sitting on to ensure everything was fine. She grabbed the back of her shoulder and rubbed it to soothe her pain.

"Are you okay?"  a silvery voice made her look up.

"Do Hyun-ah!" Boyoung immediately stood up. "I was waiting for you," she said.

"I just came, but you look very stressed, what happened?" Dohyun asked. Being an actress herself, she had known Boyoung for quite some time but they were only casual friends.

"Um," Boyoung cleared her throat and took deep breaths trying to figure out what to say.

Dohyun understood that Boyoung did not want to talk about it, so she changed the topic.

"Oh, by the way... why did you call me here? You said it was urgent,"  she asked.

Boyoung offered her a glass of water as they took their seat.

"I wanted to talk to you about the new show again," she said. "Do you think it is a good idea?"

A few months ago both Park Bo Young and Shin Do Hyun were offered the role of best friends in a new show, where Boyoung was the lead and Dohyun was the second parallel lead. Ever since then, Boyoung had been in a dilemma about whether to accept it or not. There was no specific reason for her conflict, she loved the script and was good friends with the director, but she still felt anxious.

"What happened? Are you not happy with the script?" Dohyun asked.

"I like the script, but..." Boyoung started breathing heavily. "Today I have to give them the confirmation and it's making me nervous," she explained.

Ever since the Autumn of 2017, it had been tough for Boyoung to start anything new. She was afraid of the unknown and something always seemed to draw her back. It had already taken her a lot of courage to do her last show, and it was getting even more difficult to accept another one. Any type of commitment made her stressed beyond limits.

"Umm..." Dohyun understood that Boyoung needed someone's support to accept the role. She extended her hand and kept it on Boyoung's shivering hands. "Eonnie... I will always be there with you, don't worry,"  she said.

The care and support in Dohyun's voice were all that Boyoung needed. It was the first time she had called her 'Eonnie' and it made her feel attached to Dohyun instantly.

"Do you think I will do well?" Boyoung asked with hope.

"Yes, I am sure..."  Dohyun reassured. "You are the best actress out there, no one else can do this role better than you, trust me,"

The sincerity in Dohyun's eyes somehow boosted Boyoung's confidence. She smiled and picked up her phone to call her manager and give confirmation for the show. Dohyun was delighted to see her make that decision.

"I am looking forward to working with you, Eonnie..." she said.

"Me too," Boyoung replied with a faint smile.

Soon after that, Dohyun left. Boyoung was feeling better after meeting her. But it was still not easy for her to completely trust anyone. Every time she started getting close to someone, her skepticism would draw her back. She took a few deep breaths and switched on the TV to distract her mind from any negative thoughts.

* News Flash *

Known for his breathtaking charm and good looks, actor Seo In Guk has accepted the lead role in TVN's new show, Doom at your service.

Boyoung was taken aback.

Did he accept the offer?  -  She thought to herself, getting nervous as she looked at the screen with her eyes wide open.

"Inguk-sshi, are you excited to be part of a fantasy drama?" the girl who interviewed him appeared to be bewitched by his beauty.

Seo In Guk flashed a smile at the girl as his faint dimples touched the side of his crimson lips. His sharp jaws and chiseled cheekbones made him look unreal.

"Of course I am, and I hope you all will enjoy the show very much,"  he said looking at the camera and bowed. His voice was soft and low, yet, impactful.

Greeting the reporters for the last time, he walked back to his car surrounded by bodyguards. Seo In Guk was at the peak of his career. He was popularly known as the man who never aged. On his way back home, he watched the paparazzi and various groups of girls following his car.

"All of them seem to be bewitched by you, Sir," the driver remarked.

Inguk smirked as his cheeks turned red.

"That's just one of my talents," he chuckled. "bewitching people,"

~

With good looks, a good career, a lavish office, and a luxurious home, Seo In Guk had everything he ever wanted. But what he enjoyed the most was relaxing on his couch on a rainy day sipping wine and enjoying some slow music.

After a busy day, he was relishing one such evening when someone came to his door. He went to check and to his surprise, it was one of his best friends, Kwon Sohyun.

"Congratulations on the new show," Sohyun exclaimed.

"Thank You, come in," Inguk said as he welcomed him.

"I am here too, Oppa..." Sohyun's cousin Hayun came running at the door.

She was a beautiful girl, and a couple of years younger than Sohyun but they were both good friends of Inguk. He welcomed her inside and offered them some snacks.

"So, when is the script reading?" Sohyun asked.

"It is next week," Inguk replied.

"Ah, and Soohyuk is going to be there too! Amazing isn't it?" Sohyun exclaimed.

Inguk and Sohyun had been childhood friends, but they met Lee Soohyuk in college and became best friends with him. They were like brothers and their bond was unbreakable.

"Yes, indeed, I am very happy," Inguk smiled.

"The cast is amazing, I just heard that Park Bo Young's agency confirmed it too," Sohyun said.

Inguk took a deep breath and nodded.

"She is a good actress, I'm looking forward to working with her," he said.

"But Oppa, is she a good match for you?"  Hayun asked.

Inguk's brows crossed in a frown but he smiled calmly.

"I'm sure she is," he said. "Why would you say that?"  he was confused.

"Hayun-ah, go and make some coffee for us please," Sohyun frowned at her.

Hayun sighed and walked towards the kitchen. She had always admired Inguk. Being close to him and his family, she often felt possessive of him. One couldn't deny that it was impossible not to fall for Inguk. She had fallen for him too, but she never dared to speak up.

While waiting for the milk to boil, Hayun suddenly realized that both Inguk and Sohyun were busy talking. It was the perfect time for her to sneak into the 'Mystery Room' of Inguk's home. She quietly walked past the hall and reached the door of that room. Inguk would always lock the room before entertaining guests. But since that evening Sohyun and Hayun arrived without prior intimation, he got no time to do that.

Hayun was always curious to know what was inside that room to get a better understanding of Inguk's life. That evening, she had the perfect moment to find out. She held the door knob which was cold as ice. But the moment she tried to open it, she felt a strong hold on her wrist. In a panic, she screamed and looked to her side. Inguk was standing right there staring at her.

"Oppa..." she said in horror, "I... I was ..."

"Hayun-ah, I've told you many times not to go in this room, right?" he said in a flat tone.

"I'm sorry," she said and walked away immediately. As much as she loved him, she did not want to face his wrath.

Sohyun and Hayun stayed for dinner and left. But Hayun's actions had upset Sohyun.

"What were you doing back there?" Sohyun taunted her once they were in their car. "That comment about his new female lead? Trying to get into his room? Seriously?"

"I'm sorry, okay? I am also his friend, why can't I be concerned about him a little?" she asked.

"I know why you're so 'concerned' about him, but I have told you many times that you cannot be with him, it is impossible,"  he explained.

"Why not?" Hayun asked.

"You already know it, we cannot change our destiny.." Sohyun took a deep breath. "our lives are different," he whispered.

Hayun had no option but to listen to her cousin. She clenched her fists and thought to herself - If there's anyone else destined for him, I will destroy her.

~

Thousands of women blocked the roads to have one look at Seo In Guk who was spotted in a clothing store. Sources tell that he even greeted some of his fans but was in a hurry to leave.

"What is wrong with these girls?" Boyoung sipped on her coffee while watching the news.

That morning, it took her three long hours to reach her agency's office, thanks to the girls storming the street to have one look at Seo In Guk. Boyoung could never understand their obsession with him. Besides, she was annoyed that she had to wait so long in the traffic and it wasted half of her day.

"Well, he's the sexiest man alive, what else do you expect?"  said Boyoung's manager Ari.

Boyoung frowned at her.

"Just because he looks good doesn't mean he should be given so much importance!"  she said.

Ari kept her laptop aside and sighed. She looked at Boyoung and shook her head.

"Do you have some problem with him?"  she asked. "He's your next male lead, in case you've forgotten,"

Boyoung rolled her eyes and sighed. She thought for a while, she did not want to sound negative but it was often difficult for her to control her emotions.

"It's nothing personal, but... I think people should value a person's character more than the looks," Boyoung stated. "All these girls are blocking roads for him but they don't even know if he is a good person!"

"Boyoung..." Ari pursed her lips and looked at her. "You are overreacting, I know you are pissed because we had to face traffic, but it doesn't make Seo In Guk a bad person!"

Boyoung didn't say anything after that, but it kept bothering her how she was going to work with him. He was different from any of her previous co-stars. There was something strange about him, something which always made her doubt him and repulse him.

~

Grabbing the script book tightly in her hands, Boyoung was trying to rehearse her lines. The text was pretty tough to remember and it had a lot of hidden emotions and meanings. Every time she tried to mug up her lines, she lost focus. Something was bothering her. An unknown force that was making her anxious about the future.

"You can do it Boyoungie," she said to herself and took a deep breath.

She was walking on her balcony at night preparing for the script reading which was the next day. Her long locks of hair fell on her delicate shoulders. When the moonlight fell on her silvery silk nightdress, it appeared as if she was glowing from within. Her deep round eyes were moist and her lips were pale. It took her a lot of effort to bring emotions to her face. Her past was always bothering her, blocking every good memory and anticipation of a good future.

Boyoung grabbed her shoulder, the injuries of her past still hurt her. It wouldn't have taken much time for her to slip into a series of negative thoughts but a phone call broke her focus. The call was from Do Hyun.

"Hi, Dohyun" she greeted.

"Hello Eonnie, how are you?"  Dohyun asked.

"I'm good Dohyun," Boyoung replied.

"Are you preparing for tomorrow's script reading?"  she asked.

"Yes, the lines are pretty tough," Boyoung chuckled nervously.

"Don't worry about it, I know you will do it,"  Dohyun assured.

"Thanks a lot,"

"If you don't mind, let's go together, I will pick you up in the morning," Dohyun offered.

"Oh, sure, that would be great, thank you..."

"Okay, good night Eonnie,"

"Good night Dohyun-ah,"

When Boyoung cut the call, she took a sigh of relief. That's when she realized that she was stressed about going alone and meeting new people on the script reading. What Dohyun said gave her strength that there was someone she could rely on. Boyoung smiled and took a deep breath before continuing to practice her lines.

~

"Inguk-shhi, please look at me"  !!!! "Oppa, Hi,"  !!!! "Seo In Guk-shhi please say sign my album,"

A crowd had gathered around Lee Soo Hyuk's agency. Seo In Guk hurried past the crowd. He was there to pick up Soohyuk for the script reading, as he was cast as the second parallel lead in the drama.

"Ah, you're here...," Soohyuk sighed when he saw Inguk get inside his office. He had been waiting for quite some time.

"Huh, you look so good, I am very excited," Inguk hugged him and smiled brightly. "Sorry for being late,"

"Oh, no problem, you look fantastic by the way," Soohyuk remarked.

Inguk smirked as his pale skin turned crimson. He wore a black-and-white sweater with black sleeves and a huge white square on the body. He kept his hair messy and wore specs that day.

"Thanks. My manager picked a stupid purple sweater for me to match the theme of the show, I hated it," Inguk said. "It took me hours to convince him to let me wear this, huh,"

"I know, he has some obsession with these things," Soohyuk chuckled. "Well, I'm ready to go," he said.

He was a man of few words. When he was in college, he hardly talked to anyone. But Inguk and Sohyun were the only ones who consistently tried to befriend him and he had to give up eventually. Slowly he found his soul brothers in them. All three of them were different in personalities but they complimented each other so well that their bond became stronger with time.

"Let's go, the crowd is going crazy outside," Inguk said looking out of the window.

"Classic you, attracting a crowd," Soohyuk chuckled.

"It's getting a bit annoying nowadays,"  Inguk said getting worried about the amount of his fans flocking around him all the time. "But I can't help it," he turned to Soohyuk and shrugged. "I mean, I can't  just stop being charming, right?"

They shared a good laugh before heading towards the car. Bodyguards were always a must for Seo In Guk, no matter where he would go. He quickly got to the car with Soohyuk and headed for the script reading as his bodyguards followed him in another car behind him.

~

"Ari, I think I picked a different outfit for the script reading, right?"  Boyoung helplessly pointed out at a purple sweater kept in front of her. She was in her bathrobe getting the makeup done. But she was confused when she saw a different outfit in the room.

"Uh... Actually," Ari bit her lips and looked away, figuring out how to explain it to Boyoung.

"What happened? "  Boyoung asked.

"I picked this purple one for you, it is also from the same sponsor, you can wear this too, it looks better," Ari tried to justify herself.

"What is the real reason, Ari?"  Boyoung asked looking into her eyes.

Ari had no option but to tell the truth. She was afraid that it would get Boyoung angry, but she couldn't avoid it.

"See, last night I got a call from Seo In Guk's manager and he told me to pick something purple for you so that it can match his outfit," Ari said in one go.

"What?" Boyoung was annoyed. "Who is he to decide what I should wear? It's just a script reading,"

"His team said there will be press and they will take pictures of you two together, so he needs to make sure everything is perfect. That's how he works," Ari explained.

Boyoung laughed sarcastically and got up from her chair. Wearing matching wardrobes at various events was common for drama leads. But it was just the script reading and the very first time she was going to meet Seo In Guk in person. They didn't even have to give any screen tests earlier. It was outright overwhelming and rude for his manager to force a dress choice on her without discussing before.

"How can he be the one to decide all this? If we had to wear matching wardrobes as the drama leads then it should have been a consensual decision!"  Boyoung objected.

"I know Boyoungie... but I got his call yesterday itself," Ari said.

"Why didn't you say no to him?" Boyoung asked.

"I didn't want to invite trouble," Ari shrugged. "And I thought it is a good idea to wear matching outfits on script reading," she smiled nervously.

Boyoung sighed and shook her head.

"Wearing matching outfits is not the problem, Ari. It's the fact that he didn't even care to discuss it with me and directly imposed it on us," Boyoung got annoyed.

"I'm sorry Boyoung, I didn't think about that," Ari felt apologetic.

"I'm sure it was Seo In Guk's idea and his choice! What does he think of himself? Does he think he's going to be the only star in the room? And he can decide everything on his own?" Boyoung kept getting angrier.

"Boyoungie, relax..." Ari tried to calm her down.

"No way Ari, I am not going to do what he wants! It is time to break his arrogance!" Boyoung fumed.

"Boyoung but..."

"Get me the outfit which I picked. I don't care if it matches with Mr. Seo In Guk or not!" Boyoung said sternly.

Ari quietly nodded and brought back the outfit which Boyoung had picked before. It was a black sweater with a white collar and a vertical white band in the middle. She had paired it with white jeans.
