Chapter Text
"Thank you for showing me around the school," Blaze Dance said, gazing around at the colorful entrance hall. "Uh, Flash, was it?"
Flash nodded. "Yeah, good meeting you..."
"Blaze Dance. Ya know, cuz I have red hair? I mean, I guess it's black mostly and the red is kinda faded, I need to redye it, I really hate the natural yellow underneath it."
"Yeah. Hey! You should sit with me and my friends at lunch tomorrow!"
"Yeah? Who're your friends?"
"They're really into-"
"COMING THROUGH!"
A rainbow blur sped past them, leaving a rainbow trail in their wake.
Blaze blinked, ignoring the hair that blew into her face, in favor of trying to wrap her head around the split second occurrence.
"Uh... What?"
Flash looked unbothered. He leaned down and picked up her beanie.
"Oh, that was just Rainbow Dash. Surely you've seen the news, we have to be all over it by now?"
Blaze shook her head as she took her beanie back. "I watch CNN10 every now and then...?"
"Well, we have a... Special group of girls at our school. And by special I mean..."
"Superpowered?"
Flash scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, yeah, uh, they have powers."
"And Rainbow Dash must live up to her name. Rainbow. The trail. Dash. The speed. I see it."
"She's also got rainbow hair. Pretty wild. There's also Applejack, shes got super strength, Rarity with some kind of crystal barrier thing, Pinkiepie with... exploding... sprinkles? Sunset shimmer and see into people's minds, Fluttershy can talk to animals, and Twilight Sparkle, she's telekinetic."
Blaze didn't miss the blush creeping on his cheeks.
"So do I get to meet any of them?"
"I mean, sure, but if you're hoping to be in their friend group, you can just give up on that. They're really tight knit, I used to date one of them and they still spend the vast majority of their time around each other, I'm fairly certain they're attached at the hin or something."
"Well, I'm sure I can still be their friend, even if not in the in-crowd."
"Heh, I like your thinking," Flash laughed.
At that moment, the bell rang, and students started filing our if their classes.
"See you later, Blaze!" Flash waved over his shoulder as he dashed down the hallway.
Here she was, her first full day of school.
Blaze shook in her boots, but from excitement or nerves, she had no clue. Unfortunately, that shaking let to her dropping her favorite book. It landed at the base of the stand statue stand, which presently had no statue on it.
As she leaned to pick the book up, her fingers brushed over the stone, but to her astonishment, instead of stopping at the stone as physics normally entails, her hand continued through the stone with a magical pink glow.
Book forgotten, she "touched" the stone again, this time putting her hand all the way through.
"What in the-"
"I would recommend avoiding that."
Blaze whipped around. A girl in a blue dress and a black leather jacket stood.
"Sorry, it's just that-" she looked away for a second, "it's a magical portal to a different dimension. Going through it would cause a lot of confusion on both your part and the denizens of that world."
Blaze stole another disbelieving glance at the stone portal.
"Uh, yeah..."
"Anyways, I'm Sunset Shimmer." She held out her hand, which Blaze took.
"Blaze Dance, just moved her from uptown. Flash told me about you. You're one of the superpower girls?"
Sunset chuckled. "Yeah. I noticed we have the same hair color. Had to do a double take when I first saw you. Thought I had finally met my counterpart."
"Your counterpart?"
"Long story. Oh, hey Dash!"
Blaze inspected a strand of her black hair. Sunset waved to a girl with blue skin and rainbow hair walking up with her earbuds in.
Dash looked up with a hum and removed an earbud.
"Sunset, hey! Who's this?"
"Blaze Dance."
"I- uh, just moved here."
"Well, since you met me," Dash said with a sly smile, "your life just got 20% cooler."
"I don't doubt it! Hehehe!"
"Oh!" Dash bent down and picked up Blaze's book, which she had forgotten about. "Your book!"
She held it out, and Blaze took it, brushing fingers as she did so. Which was completely normal, why did that draw her attention??
"Ooh, Fighter cats, I always loved that series, who's your favorite character?"
"Uh, Grey Strip."
"Meh, he's kinda lame. But you can like what you like, I guess. Anyways, I gotta dash. Haha, get it? Dash?" And with that, she ran off towards the front doors, but at an average person's run speed.
"Well," Sunset said. "You weren't obvious at all."
"I wasn't- what? What are you talking about?"
Sunset merely rolled her eyes with a sigh and smile.
"It's nothing. I'll catch you later, Blaze, yeah?"
"Uh, sure?"
"Knock knock," Blaze called as she tapped on the wooden doors of the costume shop.
"Come in, dear, come in!" A feminine voice responded.
Blaze pushed open the door made her way into a room chock full of colorful outfits. A white and purple girls with a measuring tape around her neck and a pin cushion strapped to her wrist sat as a sewing machine.
"Ooh, welcome, welcome! What's your name and what brings you here?" The girl asked as she finished her stich and stood up.
"Blaze Dance. I'm new here so I thought that I could find some friends by joining a few clubs."
The girl clapped her hands together. "Ooh, are you smart. My name is Rarity, president of the sewing and costuming club." She held out her hand, which Blaze shook. "Now what kind of activities are you interested in?"
"Well, I am interested in fashion design which is why I thought I'd try this place-"
Rarity's eyes lit up and she grabbed Blaze's wrist and pulled her over to a specific outfit.
"Perhaps you can help me if you like fashion? This outfit is for a particularly athletic friend, Rainbow Dash."
"I keep hearing about her."
"But I'm worried the vest is too tight. Too tight and she can't move. Not tight enough and she'd look more like Indiana James with a stunning outfit."
Blaze inspected the piece for a second.
"What it you used a ribbon to fasten it rather than buttons, and it went all the way around? That way she can adjust the tightness and still get a cute little bow? Also trim the sleeves closer to the neck for more arm mobility."
Rarity's eyes glowed. "Dearie, you are a genius. You absolutely should join this club!"
Blaze chuckled. "Uh, thanks. By the way," she poked at a couple holes in the back of the outfit , very deliberately put there. "What are these for"
"Ah well, a couple of my friends can, ahem, sprout wings. I just wanted to make measurements to make sure they wouldn't rip the outfit."
"Sprout wings? I thought you guys just had like special powers or something?"
"Mm, well, it's difficult to explain. Actually the wings came before the powers thing." Rarity selected a blue ribbon from a drawer. "Actually, Dash likes to show off her wings and ears. She's likely on the field right now playing soccer. If she gets too riled up, I'm sure she'll -as we say- pony up."
"I- well, sure, I guess I could... Um... Check that... Out..."
Rarity turned to her and raised a smug eyebrow.
"She does like an audience, no matter how big."
Blaze quickly nodded her head. "Yeah! Thanks! For being so welcoming! I, um, think I'm going to go see-meet- uh, watch her and uh... Mnnnnnn, BYE!"
