Work Text:

‘’We’ll target the Flying Dutchman. We’re the only ship that can catch her,” Cordelia smiled innocently, ignoring the wary eyes and the pale faces scrutinizing her.

Gibbs murmured under his breath. “Maelstrom! Saints preserve us.’’

Barbossa, who joined their crew after she convinced Jack to let him in, contemplated her words. “Aye. That be true. Let’s brace the yards, set the stay sails and turn her winward!”

She knew that among the crew he was the one who suspected her the most. She tried to hide her magic but didn’t always succeed.

Since she embraced the mantle of the Mistress of Death and decided to leave her dimension and look for her true Soulmate, the powers she had trouble controlling when she was Cordelia Potter answered to her as easily as her next breath.

Everything changed when she followed Jack Sparrow to the Land of The Dead—or Davy Jones’ Locker, as Pirates referred to it.

The Soulmate Bond was abiding warmth that drew her to him like a Siren’s call.

The tender lines on her face flowed into an amused smile and she wondered how would Ron and Hermione react to Jack.

However, she would trade a day in the company of the deceitful, shrewd, eccentric Captain with all the gold in her vaults and all the lives she was promised by Death.

Jack’s voice boomed as the Flying Dutchman got closer. “More speed! She’s on our stern and gaining! Move it, landlubbers!”

She exchanged a fleeting look with Will Turner and saw the determination in his eyes.

He was set on saving his father, even though leaving Elizabeth behind was eating at him.

Collecting wayward souls was her primordial mission. However, it saddened her that the two lovers had to part ways for the upcoming years.

Someone had to do the job and ferry souls to the Underworld.

“You’re worrying,” Jack stepped behind her and ran his fingers through her long, unbound hair.

“I hate what I’m about to do,” she confessed.

He shrugged and kissed her nape. “I would’ve liked to say avoid the choice altogether, don’t change the facts and let someone else dispatch Jones. But this is not who you’re, me bony lass.”

Cordelia shook her head and he grinned.

She told him her story during the long sailing trip they took chasing The Flying Dutchman and intending to end Jones’ Curse.

“You have a way of reshuffling one's priorities. Haven’t I met you, I would’ve volunteered to slip aboard the Dutchman, find the heart and stab the beating thing. Turner Senior goes free from his debt, and Will enjoys a long life with his charming murderess.”

Cordelia snorted. “Out of all the things you can do, would you do that?”

Barbossa’s shout startled them. “More speed! Angle yard to port!”

Jack glared at his nemesis.

When she lifted an eyebrow, he smiled with oozing charm. “Aye, I would. I would be free forever. Free to sail the seas, beyond the edges of the map, free from death itself. Crew aboard the Dutchman is one thing, but Captain? Sign me up.”

She caressed his goatee and smirked. “And this?”

His deep, soulful eyes widened and he faked a shudder. “Sink me! I don’t have the face for tentacles.”

Cordelia laughed. “That’s what I thought. Kissing you might become tricky, too.

“Avast ye!” Barbossa screamed. “We’re fighting. Save yer flirting for later.”

Jack cursed under his breath before his eyes shone with a familiar mischievous glint. “Oy, Barbossa. I thought you were the old salt of the brinny deep.”

Cordelia poked his side. “Behave. We’re about to face Jones.”

Jack shrugged. “I can’t help but run a rig every now and then.”

Hector glared at them and Jack, at last, joined him.

Everyone paused, looking across at the enemy.

Pintel and Ragetti aimed.

Gibbs came down the gangway. ‘’Hold till we lay board-and-board!’’

Jack brought the Black Pearl around and three a look at Will.

Will turner’s fate was bound to the ocean. It was The Fates' verdict and no Mortal could flee his destiny.

Cordelia headed toward a pale Elizabeth Swann and whispered. “Everything will be fine, I promise.”

“But….he will leave me. I sense his resolution. He will choose his father over me and —“

Gently, Cordelia’s hand went to Elizabeth’s chest, where her heart beat furiously, then to her tummy.

The blond woman’s eyes flared with understanding. “The man you love will never leave you. He’s always here. You’ll meet again one day at sunrise.”

Elizabeth sniffed and her eyes hardened with determination. “For him, I’ll wait an eternity.”

Cordelia smiled wistfully. “You won’t have to.”

Her moment with her new friend was cut short when cannon fire thundered as the two ships battled across the abyss.

The crewmen raced through the length of the deck as cannonballs screamed past.

Barbossa laughed heartily and Jack smirked.

Even Jack the Monkey clapped his tiny hands, then jumped landing on Jack’s shoulder.

“Scurvy monster,” her pirate whined but she heard the affection he secretly held for the one-of-a-kind pet.

“Hah. It be too late to alter course now, Mateys! We’ll have seafood for dinner.”

Jack exchanged a meaningful look with her and she nodded.

A moment later, she apparated by his side and took them to Jones’ cabin.

She took the chest out of her pocket and enlarged it.

“It’s time,” Jack rubbed his hands together.

“Yes, it is,” Cordelia agreed.

He drew his sword out and tipped his hat.

After a hasty kiss, he stood by her side waiting for the upcoming confrontation.

In a blink, as if sensing his beating heart, Jones was there, sword drawn and at the ready.

“I can set you free, Jones,” Cordelia said coolly, knowing his answer beforehand.

He studied her for a silent moment and when he spoke, the words that came out of his mouth were laced with so much pain and loathing. “Yer are Sparrow's wench. The lass that managed to tame him. I heard tales about you.”

Jack gasped in indignation. “Oy, octopus. No wench can tame Captain Jack Sparrow. I’m as free as the wind.”

Cordelia cleared her throat and he sobered.

She looked at Jones. “This is it Jones. Let go of what ails you. While seeking your vengeance, you committed many crimes and abused your powers.”

He curled his tentacles around his sword and hissed. “Have you ever loved, wench? Have you given your heart truly just to have it stabbed mercilessly? My freedom was forfeited long ago. There is no way back for me.”

Decision made, he leapt at Jack and their swords clashed.

Cordelia waved her hand, making the tentacle fragment that tried to climb her leg and steal the chest disappear.

The mast shook and she knew that the time was nearing.

Will joined the fight and was floored when Bootstrap Bill charged at him.

“Father…” he breathed.

But the older pirate was too far gone to recognize his son. Will was forced to defend himself, even reluctantly.

Cordelia closed her eyes and the chest disappeared.

She was no longer Cordelia Potter. She was Cordelia Peverell, the Mistress of Death and she had a balance to uphold.

Jack kept Jones busy while she followed Will and his father’s fight.

Cordelia winced when Bootstrap’s sword lifted. Mindlessly, Jones’ heart lifted from her hand, floating toward its new target.

Time stilled and Jones tried to wade in and reach his prize.

Her eyes narrowed on the man who refused redemption, the monster who caused the Pirates of the Seven Seas so much pain and loss.

“No, you don’t,” she said coldly and threw a Severing Charm at his tentacles, making him writhe in agony.

“Ye —‘’ he breathed raggedly.

“I wanted to give you a peaceful trip to the Land of the Dead but look what you’ve done. You made a father and his son face off.”

Jack gasped and without turning, she knew that Bootstrap had stabbed Will like Death predicted during his last visit.

The floating heart reached its destination the moment Bootstraps’ eyes cleared.

“Will! William, my son!” he screamed.

Cordelia strode forward and laid a comforting hand on the grieving father’s shoulder. “You know what you have to do.”

Jones bent in agony, unable to fight her Full Bind-Body Curse.

Bootstrap squeezed the still-beating heart, his other hand clutching his son’s hand.

Elizabeth, who had joined the deck, cried and raced toward the dying Will.

She cradled him in her arms and whispered in his ear.

Her eyes pleaded with Bootstrap to end her lover’s pain and he bit his lip.

He enclosed Will’s cold hand over the sword’s hilt and directed it to stab the heart.

Cordelia let go of her Curse and Jones clawed at his heart, crying out in anguish.

“Death has been waiting for you, Davy Jones and no one can forestall Death’s judgment,” she said.

Every pirate aboard held their breath as Jones stood on shaking legs and then fell onto the rail, plummeting down into the sea to join his Calypso at last.

Cordelia pulled Elizabeth up, urging her to step away from Will while the Dutchman Crew started moving toward their new Captain.

“It’s time to leave,” she soothed.

She took Jack’s hand and together, they apparated to the Black Pearl.

Barbossa, who was turning the wheel onward trying to flee, groaned. “Shiver me timbers!”

Jack smirked. “That's what life is, boyo. Ye can never outwit Captain Jack Sparrow and his lassie.”
