Work Text:
When Jin Cheonhee got back to his room after a day of training, his body was exhausted, any rest he could get would be greatly appreciated. He went to get a change of clothes and went to bed, the heaviness of his body making it easier for him to fall asleep.
The next morning, Cheonhee noticed something glinting on the bedside table. Curious, he went to check what it was, only to find that it was a lightweight silver bracelet. He took it from its place on the table in order to get a closer look at the accessory.
The bracelet was simple but had small, vine-like engravings, adding a nice touch to the design. He sensed no malice from the object and decided to put it on to see what it would look like on him. The vine-like design made it seem as if silver vines were growing on his arm, and the cool temperature of the metal made him like it even more.
From then on, he wore the bracelet wherever he went, only taking it off when needed. Not once was the little white dragon not seen without silver vines crawling on his arm.
Next was a ring.
Jin Cheonhee spotted a silver ring in the same place the bracelet was put. The ring was very similar to the bracelet. With the same vine-like design etched into the cool metal, Cheonhee did the same as before, he put it on and went about his day.
The others around him took note of the silver vines growing on his finger, now more curious than ever to know what the reason was for the young man to be wearing the similarly designed jewelry.
It only took a short while for his master to notice the silver accessory, wondering idly where it had come from.
"Cheonhee." The white-haired man called. Jin Cheonhee raised his from the medicinal book he was reading, giving his master his full attention.
The older hummed, "Where did you get that bracelet of yours?"
Cheonhee stilled, pausing to think of a proper answer. It wasn't like he could just say I found it on my bedside table one morning without invoking a scolding from his master. After all, it wasn’t like he actually knew where it had come from.
“U-uh, a friend gave it to me..?” The younger grimaced at the words he uttered, it sounded more like a question than a statement, most likely making the older even more suspicious. He almost sighed in relief when his master said nothing in return, while Yoohoo, who was standing near the entrance of the room, only raised an eyebrow.
Then it was a bag of freshly made tanghulu.
This time however the little gift wasn’t placed on his bedside table, instead, it was carefully sneaked under his table, the decorative tablecloth covering it easily. Cheonhee probably wouldn't have noticed if he wasn't the type of person to sit down and do work first thing in the morning. The tanghulu looked as red and shiny as ever, indicating that the person who put it there shouldn’t have left not too long ago.
Cheonhee’s stomach rumbled at the sight of the sweet, he knew as a doctor that eating sweets before eating anything else wasn’t a good idea, but another part of himself wanted to completely devour the delicious-looking treat.
But alas, someone knocked on his door, making him quickly place the bag underneath his table, where it originally had been.
“Come in.”
A servant stepped in, “Young Master, the Master has informed me to remind you of your upcoming surgery in a few hours.”
Cheonhee nodded his head, “A yes..thank you for the reminder, I’ll be sure to be ready before the scheduled time.”
If anyone saw the little white dragon munching on a stick of tanghulu while resting after surgery, no one said a thing.
Footsteps were heard from behind him, Jin Cheonhee quickly glanced behind his shoulder, spotting a familiar black-clad figure in the darkness of his room.
“Yeo Halyun?”
“!?”
In the dark of his room, the set of black and red robes flinched slightly as if not expecting someone to call out their name. A lamp was suddenly lit, bathing the room in light and illuminating the stiff face of his sworn brother.
The other looked like a child caught stealing, especially with his arm outstretched toward his bedside table while holding a small box. Jin Cheonhee raised an eyebrow.
“You— what are you doing awake at this time!?” Yeo Halyun asked, a baffled look on his usually unexpressive face. Cheonhee only shrugged sheepishly, making his sworn brother instead look at him, unimpressed.
“Hyung…”
“OKAYOKAY—I may have been pulling an all-nighter but that’s honestly not important— wait. Why are you the one making me explain myself? You should explain first what you’ve been doing here.”
Halyun looked away, suddenly finding the wall more interesting than their conversation, “Nothing.”
They both knew that was bullshit but said absolutely nothing.
Instead, Cheonhee motioned the other to come to sit on the floor by the table, he moved the unfinished paperwork aside in neat piles, giving more space for Yeo Halyun. The other simply sighed before complying, they chatted for a while, catching up on each others’ lives. Cheonhee did most of the talking, but not once did he mind.
