Chapter Text
Bakugo stepped forward, his palms crackling, in what would have been an intimidating display for a normal person. But Izuku had faced a being beyond comprehension and come out on top. Some sparklers were no longer enough to intimidate him.
Nor was it enough to intimidate Pony, Raphtalia, or Wyndia. Bakugo found himself pinned to the ground with swords pointed at his neck and a large ball of black fire aimed at him. "Get the fuck off me bitches! I need to kill Deku!"
Raising his hand in a placating gesture, Izuku said "Let him up. You know he isn't a threat to me."
As Bakugo was let up and spared from a deadly fate, he blasted towards Izuku. "Not a threat to you?!" He threw an explosion in Izuku's face, obscuring the Shield Hero from view. However, when the smoke cleared, Izuku was completely unphased. Not even his uniform was singed. "Fuck you! You disappear for a month after the Entrance Exam! You don't show up to school, you don't come home! The old hag and Auntie were worried sick about you! Your name wasn't even in the top thirty-four this year! You failed the exam! Yet here you are, in the hero student's dorm!"
He threw a punch, only for a loud crack to echo out. Bakugo cursed, clutching his now broken fist. He had thrown that punch with everything he had, but the moment it collided with Izuku's chest, it broke. "Fuck!"
"Bakugo." Izuku said calmly. "You can't beat me anymore." Bakugo lunged for Izuku with his non-broken hand, an explosion charging up to once again attempt to blow Izuku to kingdom come, but Izuku sidestepped and threw a right hook that broke Bakugo's nose and threw him out the still open door of the dorms. "Stop this now, before I have to really hurt you."
Bakugo didn't get up. After a minute of no movement from the blond boy, Izuku got worried and went to check on him. Bakugo was breathing but had been knocked out from the hit. Izuku sighed. "You have so much potential for good. But you're just like Itsuki. Too stuck in your own head to be the hero you could be." Izuku carried Bakugo inside and set him down on the floor, healing his broken nose and hand.
He then looked over to Mina to apologize, only to see her holding a very strange item. It had three curved blades around a circular handle. "The vassal glaive." Izuku said, shocked he had found the wielder so soon. "Where did you find it?"
Mina looked down at her weapon, before dismissing it. "I found it in the woods near my house. It looked like it had been there for decades." She then looked at Izuku suspiciously. "How do you know its name?"
Izuku summoned his shield to his hand. "This is the Legendary Shield of Melromarc. I am the Shield Hero." He explained. "The vassal glaive is one of this world's weapons. There are eight. Two are likely already in the hands of villains. Two more are likely in the hands of heroes or hero hopefuls." Izuku expected to see at least one of those weapons here at U.A. Just not being wielded by literally the first person to walk in the door. "And you hold one of the other eight. Yours is the Vassal Glaive."
"And them?" Mina pointed to the weapons that had been summoned by Pony, Raphtalia and Wyndia. "Which ones do they have?"
Pulling out his notebook and writing Mina's name next to the vassal glaive, he then flipped to another page. This one containing all the unique weapons of Melromarc. "Pony wields Durandal. Raphtalia has Excalibur and Calibur. And Wyndia has the Seven Star Staff, also called the Vassal Staff."
"Okay. And they were all in Melromarc?"
"Correct." Izuku said. "Each one was found in Melromarc and chose them as their wielders. I was summoned to Melromarc's world from this one and became the Shield Hero."
Izuku popped his head into the kitchen and said "I'll be going out for a bit. Can one of you call Nezu and tell him that I found the owner of the Vassal Glaive?"
Inko and Hisashi looked just as surprised as Izuku had been. "Already? How many people have shown up?" Izuku's father asked.
"Two. Oh, and don't mind Bakugo being unconscious. I'll deal with him later." That made Inko and Hisashi look worried. But before they could ask questions, Izuku left and went back over to Mina. "Follow me to the training grounds. I need to see what you can do."
Mina was taken aback. "Seriously? I just got here! I haven't even put my stuff up! And I don't even know you!"
Two of those issues, Izuku could solve. He explained "The moment you were chosen by that weapon, your path to be a hero changed. You can't be trained normally anymore. That means no waiting around for you to get comfortable unfortunately. As for your stuff, your room is 4-B. Filo, Rifana, Keel!" Izuku's three children woke from their nap and got up. "Take these boxes to room 4-B! Don't look inside them but get them there. Then meet me at Ground Alpha."
"As for not knowing me, we unfortunately don't have time for that right now. But I will be one of your teachers this year. If you want, I can get Principal Nezu on the phone and he can vouch for me. But we need to go." Izuku all but picked Mina up and carried her out of the dorms.
She tried to argue but went along with it eventually. "This is technically kidnapping you know?" She grumbled but didn't resist anymore, just walked along with Izuku to where Ground Alpha was.
By the time they got to ground Alpha, Izuku and Mina had been joined by Pony, Raphtalia, Wyndia, FIlo, Rifana, Keel, and Melty. A more unfamiliar face was there as well. "Hello Aizawa. I assume you know why we're here." Izuku said politely.
"I do. Nezu said you found one already." The tired teacher said. "And it's Mr. Aizawa to you. Even if you are technically a teacher."
Mina looked at both teachers incredulously. "Wait, you were serious about that? I thought you were messing with me!"
"No, he was not. Midoriya is the first year Magic Teacher." Aizawa explained. "I will be your homeroom teacher and one of your heroics teachers. But that's beside the point. Midoriya, what do you want her to do first?"
Izuku walked a good ten feet away and said "First, summon your weapon. Then, throw it at me as hard as you can."
That didn't happen, as Mina was still reeling from what she had learned. "Magic! You're going to teach me magic?"
"Yes, I am. You'll have your first magic class sometime during your first week of school." Izuku explained. "But for now, follow my instructions."
Once again, Mina did not follow instructions. "But what if I hurt you?"
"You can't." Pony explained. "He's taken attacks from dragons before. A novice like you won't hurt him unless you have some sort of skill that bypasses defense. And even then, it would take a lot more power than you have to do any real damage."
With her worries put at ease the best they could be, Mina finally summoned her weapon and threw it as hard as she could. Halfway through the throw, acid coated the blades. It impacted Izuku's chest with a solid amount of force, but once again failed to even since his uniform. "Impressive." Izuku said. "Most low-level monsters would die in a single hit from that."
Despite Izuku's words, Mina couldn't help but feel disappointed. Sure, she had been told she couldn't hurt him, but her glaive hadn't even damaged his school uniform. Raphtalia put her hand on Mina's shoulder and said "You're quite powerful for someone who has no real training. You'll reach our level in time. I guarantee it. Look, your attack did something as well."
Mina looked up and saw that, while it took a while, the acid had melted a portion of Izuku's shirt. The skin beneath it was irritated, but not really damaged. Izuku waved his hand, and the acid burned away, and the damage healed. Even his uniform repaired itself. "Before you ask, yes, that was magic. Like I said, you'll start learning it during your first week of school. After that, you're free to come to me for extra lessons."
"Cool!" Mina had stars in her eyes as she saw an example of magic. When she was younger, she always wanted to learn magic. Now it wasn't just a dream that would never come through, it was a reality! "So, you said I could never be a regular hero student after I picked up my glaive. What did you mean by that?"
Izuku looked conflicted. Should he allow her to continue to live in ignorance for a little longer, or should he break the news to her as soon as possible to have another capable fighter to protect people? Eventually, Aizawa made the choice for him. The sleepy teacher said "You are now considered an elite champion of this world. One who will defend your country against the waves."
"The waves?" Mina asked.
After Mina asked that question, Izuku sighed. "I wanted to give you some time to adjust, but it seems Mr. Aizawa has other plans. Look here." Izuku opened up a portal to a cavern under U.A. Inside the cavers was a golden hourglass. "This is called a Dragon Hourglass. We discovered it soon after Melromarc appeared. Anywhere there is a Dragon Hourglass, a wave can happen. A wave is where the sky turns red, and countless rifts open up in the sky. Then, monsters will pour from those rifts until the wave boss is defeated. If warriors from another world show up, then a timer will start. The wave goes until the end of that timer even if the boss monster is killed."
"Killed? You have to kill these monsters?" Mina asked, not liking the sound of that.
Izuku nodded. "You have to understand, these aren't like the normal monsters of Melromarc that will mostly leave you alone if you leave them alone. They're sole purpose is to kill anyone and everyone around them. And they don't vanish after the wave ends. They stick around until they die. If we don't kill them, then somebody else will die to them."
"Listen! I didn't sign up to become a killer!" Mina pointed a finger at Izuku angrily. "You should have let everyone know about these wave things!"
As Izuku looked down in shame, Pony faced Mina and said "It isn't that simple. In Melromarc, almost everybody could fight. They could at least try to defend themselves during the waves. And even with that fact, people still killed themselves or went mad when the waves came. Here, where the average person can't defend themselves in the slightest? It would cause mass panic so bad that not even the heroes could contain it. Not just suicides, riots. Looting. Innocent people getting hurt and dying to other people. It isn't a perfect solution to keep information about the waves as secret as possible. But it's the best solution we have right now. At least that's what the government thinks."
"As for killing," Aizawa said. "It's unfortunately likely you'll face a situation where lethal force is the only way to save lives. It's not something you usually hear about until your second year. But sometimes, the only way to keep people safe is to kill the villain threatening them. Think about it like this. Your quirk and your weapon are lethal if not used correctly. Neither one is suited for capture." Mina nodded, following along so far. "If a villain is faster, stronger, more skilled than you while you hold back, you have to stop holding back. If the choice is between saving a life or keeping your hands clean, which will you choose? If the answer isn't saving a life, then you're going after the wrong career."
It was the cold hard truth. If you couldn't be willing to kill to protect, then others would die from your inability to act. And heroes were forced to make that choice far more often than anyone should. "I understand. But killing will always be a last resort. Always."
Izuku said "And it always should. Against people. But against monsters, you have to be willing to go for the kill immediately. Unless your goal is to capture a monster to research them, then they have to be killed, or they'll just escape and kill again."
"How many have you killed?" Mina asked.
"Monsters? Too many to count. People? Only one. And it was the only way to stop them from killing a lot of innocent people. And getting a lot more killed through their followers." Izuku answered.
It chilled Mina to the bone to know that the kind boy in front of her had taken who knows how many monsters' lives, and the life of his fellow man. But she also understood why he had to do it. If monsters couldn't be stopped without killing, and couldn't be left alone or they would kill, then the only thing to do was kill them. But a man? There had to have been another way, right?
Izuku said "I know that look. You were thinking there might be another way. Besides me killing that man. I thought the same thing. I replayed that scenario over and over again in my head, desperately trying to find another way. And I never did. You'll drive yourself crazy trying. When you make that decision, because there will be a day where that decision has to be made, trust in yourself. Better than anyone else, you will know whether it is the right choice to make. And don't hesitate. Because hesitating will get you and whoever you're trying to protect killed."
While she still looked conflicted on the idea of killing, even if it was to save others, Mina said "I understand. Can we move away from the heavy stuff now?"
"Sure. Here, as an apology, I'll give you something. You won't be able to use it yet because I haven't taught you any magic, but once you do it'll give you a fun transportation option. It's something my father and I made together." Izuku pulled out a small bottle with a floating blue orb in it and handed it to Mina.
Mina looked at the bottle with sparkling eyes. "Ooh! What does it do?"
Pulling out an identical bottle, then realizing he gave Mina his own personal one and quickly switching them, Izuku explained "In that bottle your holding is a mana orb. It's currently unattuned, so it can't do much. But once you learn how to use magic to a proficient degree, you can attune it to yourself. This specific mana orb has been created with transportation in mind. Until we know your magical affinity or affinities if you have multiple, we can't be sure what form it will take."
"And what form does yours take?" Mina asked. Izuku uncorked the bottle, and the mana orb floated out, turning from blue to the same shade of green as Izuku's hair. It then burst into a large ball of flames, which Izuku sat on cross-legged. "Cool!"
Izuku pointed to where everyone else had taken out their out mounts and gotten on them. Pony had her lightning cloud, similar to the spell she managed to create which was the inspiration for this invention. Raphtalia had what looked like a small floating sun that was hard to look directly at. Filo had a small tornado. Melty and Rifana had small whirlpools, while Keel had a similar tornado to Filo, but with small rocks and dust in it. Wyndia didn't have one of the magic mounts, instead riding on her wolf companion.
When Mina saw the wolf, she squealed in happiness. "Can I ride it with you?" Wyndia patted the wolf's back right behind her.
"Climb aboard. Just be sure to pay him the fee." Wyndia said. "Don't worry though, the fee is pets."
Mina practically danced over to the wolf and climbed on his back, the wolf being easily big enough for the two of them now that he had grown up a little. "Does he have a name?"
Wyndia smiled and said "He does. His name is Dusk."
The group rode back to the dorms in style, only to see that more students had arrived.
A few hours later, everyone had arrived. Bakugo had regained consciousness, grumbling at how Izuku had cheated and hadn't really won that fight. And it was finally time for everyone to introduce themselves.
Izuku decided to start. "Welcome everyone to your first year at U.A High School. As you can see, things look a little different than usual. Our class of heroes is fifty people, instead of the usual forty split up into two classes. I'm sure you all know why if you read your letters."
A girl with long black hair and a mature figure said "Because a new continent and country appeared. That country is far behind the rest of the world in most ways. Ten of the strongest combatants were chosen to become the first heroes of that country, with U.A being the chosen school for their training."
"Correct. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Midoriya Izuku, one of your classmates as well as a teacher here."
Questions started flowing when Izuku said that. Izuku called on one of the students who had asked first. "Why are you a teacher if you're still a student?"
"Because I'm one of the most qualified people to teach you all in the newest addition to U.A's heroics curriculum." Izuku answered.
There was a cry of "Bullshit! What could you possibly be qualified to teach Deku? How to wet your pants and run away crying?" It didn't take a genius to know who asked that question.
"I'm so glad you asked Bakugo. For the next three years, I will be your magic instructor. For those not caught up on current events, Melromarc is a country and continent of magic and monsters. Over time, that magic has been spreading to the rest of the world. And it's my job to teach it to you. Now, no further interruptions from you Bakugo. You're already on thin ice for attacking a teacher. While I can't expel you, any further attempts to attack me outside of training will be reported to those who can."
Bakugo silently fumed but knew enough to not try anything now. He was just barely smart enough to recognize that his position at this school was on the line. The next question was obvious. "Who are the ten chosen from Melromarc?"
"Melromarcian students, sound off. One at a time. Starting with the Cardinal Heroes." Izuku commanded.
Each one introduced themselves in turn. "Motoyasu Kitamura. The Spear hero."
"Ren Amaki. The Sword Hero."
"Itsuki Kawasumi. The Bow Hero."
"Melty Q Melromarc. First in Line for the throne, and a member of the Shield Hero's party, and the Book Hero."
"Eclair Seaetto. Not a legendary hero unfortunately, but I am also a member of the Shield Hero's party."
"Filo Midoriya! And the Claw Hero!"
"I'm Keel Midoriya. I'm the Scythe Hero."
"And I'm Rifana Midoriya. The Fan Hero."
"Wyndia. I have no last name yet. And I am the Staff Hero."
"I guess that just leaves me. I'm Raphtalia. I'm the wielder of Excalibur and Calibur."
Raphtalia's introduction got a gasp of shock from a girl with vines for hair. "Impossible! Excalibur has been lost to the ages! And it has no counterpart! You lie!" Raphtalia looked to Izuku for help.
The Shield Hero said "She isn't lying. You need to remember two things. First of all, the Excalibur of this world may be lost to the ages, but Raphtalia's Excalibur comes from Melromarc. Second, it isn't talked about as much, but Calibur, also often called Caliburn, does exist. One was the Sword in the stone, and when that one broke King Arthur got another sword from the Lady in the Lake." Alongside quirks, mythology and religion was another topic Izuku was quite knowledgeable on.
"Impossible!" The girl pulled out her phone and did some searching. After a minute she looked embarrassed and said "Ah. I see. My apologies. It seems I still have much to learn about my own religion.
Pony snorted in amusement and said "I should also technically be included in that list of people from Melromarc. I'm the wielder of Durandal." She summoned her sword to show it off, mostly to try and get a reaction out of the vine haired girl again. Unfortunately, no such reaction came this time. Though it was clear that the girl was struggling not to say something.
Then, one of the other students said "Um, can we address the elephant in the room? Some of these kids don't even look like they're in middle school yet. And yet here they are in a heroics class? Is this some sort of joke?" The boy had strange elbows. "And a few of them look just a little too old to be high schoolers."
"These are the ten strongest fighters in Melromarc if you exclude Pony and I since we're originally from Japan. Melromarc can't afford to wait for those who are too young to grow old enough, nor can they lose those too old to be in high school. If you're worried about hurting the younger ones, don't. Most of you wouldn't last two seconds against them." Izuku said.
The introductions continued, with everyone saying their names and quirks, as well as any special talents they had. Bakugo told them all to fuck off, and the one named Todoroki gave everyone the cold shoulder as well, but everyone else seemed mostly happy to socialize. Izuku then moved on to the real point of the introductions. "Now, since the appearance of Melromarc, has anyone discovered they could summon a strange weapon, or found a strange weapon in the woods or something?"
The red-haired boy named Ejiro Kirishima spoke up. "About a week after Melromarc appeared, I discovered I could summon this." A two-handed mace appeared in Kirishima's hand. It was less of a mace and more of a morningstar, but Izuku recognized it nontheless.
"The Legendary Mace of this world, making you the Mace Hero. Anyone else?"
The black haired girl, Momo Yaoyorozu, said "I am similar. Though it is not a mace." A halberd formed in her hands. "At first I thought it was just a unique weapon I made with my quirk, but it seems not based on what you are saying."
"You're right. That's the Legendary Halberd. You're the Halberd Hero now!" Pony said.
Nobody else stepped forward except for Mina, who showed off her Glaive. Izuku said "Those of you with Legendary or Vassal Weapons, come with me. We have training to do. Everyone else, you're free to do what you want. If you want to join us for training, then you're free to do so, but don't be surprised if you have trouble keeping up. These are all extremely powerful magical weapons that put the wielder in a league above everyone else."
Once again Izuku took everyone to ground Alpha. Aizawa once again met them there for the training.
"Show me what you can do!"
