A Connection

Summary:

Hiccup realizes he has a connection with Viggo.

Work Text:

Hiccup was captured by Krogan, Johann, and Viggo, and it didn’t look like there would be any getting out of it. Toothless had been separated from him, and Hiccup didn’t know whether or not his dragon would survive this. Or if he himself would…

“You know, Viggo, I thought you better than this,” Hiccup said as he was led along a tunnel. He’d been taken into a cavern, and there had been so many twists and turns that he didn’t know if he’d be able to find his way out again. “You said you respected me, and now you chain me up? Great way to show respect.”

“Is he always this grating?” Krogan asked. He was leading the way, a torch in one hand, his halberd in the other.

“Sadly, yes,” Johann answered. Hiccup was disappointed that these two were the ones talking, that he hadn’t gotten a rise out of Viggo, who was walking behind him.

“I thought we had something, me and you, Viggo,” Hiccup continued. He didn’t know why he was talking. Sometimes it was something he did while he was nervous. “After all, I did help you get rid of your lunatic brother.”

That seemed to do the trick. With a growl, Viggo was suddenly grabbing Hiccup and shoving him up against the tunnel wall, an arm to his throat. He could easily cut off his breathing in this position. Maybe Hiccup really was in over his head.

“You and I will talk later,” Viggo said, and there was anger in his eyes. But then, he leaned in, and Hiccup wasn’t sure what to expect, but he whispered: “Give me some time, and I can get you and Toothless out of here.”

Hiccup tried his best to not react to Viggo’s last words. He was going to help him and Toothless escape? Maybe they did have a connection beyond just respect. Maybe there was something tangible there that Hiccup could work with.

“Viggo, now isn’t the time to seduce him,” Johann said with a very clear roll of his eyes. “You’ll have your time with him, after we get the location of the lenses out of him.”

Hiccup gave Viggo a small smile, hoping that the shadows hid his face well. “Thank you,” he whispered. Viggo reacted with another growl, but he withdrew his arm, and shoved Hiccup back into line. Hiccup wasn’t feeling as hopeless now. He and Viggo did have some sort of connection. He was sure of that now. He tried not to let his happiness show as he was led on down the tunnel. So, instead, he slouched his shoulders and looked down at the ground, hoping he looked defeated. Behind him, Viggo had a hand on his shoulder, and instead of feeling threatening, it was a comfort.
