Laughter and chatter filled his ears.
He would be lying if he said it wasn't a pleasant sound really. Listening to those sad men and women gambling away their money, hoping for more of it. Just sad really.
The lights of this casino were low, setting a slow and calm mood for the night, maybe even a little sensual if you had the right company.
"Wha- Impossible!"
"This guy has to be cheating."
"He's lying!"
"I promise, there was never once a moment he cheated."
"King…"
Of course, someone like Kokichi always had the right company for whatever occasion.
(Sometimes even he couldn't believe that was true.)
Kokichi grinned and turned his head to the gorgeous man standing behind him. His eyes trailed down the other's deceivingly petite figure, looking so stunning in the dim lights.
Blue hair was slicked back and behind his ear, a pearl necklace lay comfortably on his pale neck. The bluenette was wearing a tight, white button up that was tucked into white, latex, high waisted shorts. A black, crossed harness hugged his chest tightly, and he wore black, ankle high boots, with white ankle bracelets.
His face was obscured by the fancy mask on his face, but his eyes shone through in their beautiful gray-gold color. The mask was white and lined with blue rhinestones and faded blue color. The straps were blue like his hair and a trail of gold beads hung down and looped back around to the back of his head, on the side of the mask were white feathers that curved upwards and trailed down to his shoulder blades, giving him a more angelic presence.
Kokichi himself was dressed in a white button-down shirt with a black choker on his throat. His white pants were connected to a harness that went over his shoulder and crossed at the back with a metal ring. He had on knee high black and white heeled boots and his white coat was held by his beloved.
The mask on his face was also white based, but it had a much more clowney look with a blue gem for the tear and a pink one for a heart, the rim of the mask was purple in color and had two purple rhinestones on the edges, complimenting his mischievous purple eyes perfectly. The straps of his mask were also the color of his hair that was tied up and slicked back; gold beads curtained the sides of his head with black feathers trailing back just like the bluenette’s, giving a much dark aura to his presence.
Kokichi turned his full attention to his beloved with enthusiasm. “Yeees, my Beloved~?” He sang sweetly. The man sighed next to him, “You’ve angered them enough don’t you think?” The bluenette said while unfolding the white coat in his arms. Kokichi pouted before gently tugging on his love' wrist. This made the other raise an eyebrow curiously, and he leaned down when Kokichi signaled him to.
“I haven’t finished until you’ve watched me, Shuichi.” He whispered delightfully. Shuichi’s face flushed, but he let out an exasperated sigh. “Just one more game then.” Shuichi permitted, to which Kokichi giggled cheerfully. “Nishishi~ Yes! Another round, host-chan!”
The host nodded and began to shuffle the cards as most of the players leaned forward slightly in anticipation, watching each other closely. Kokichi himself leaned back and wrapped an arm around Shuichi's waist. Shuichi eyed him quizzically, as if to ask what he was doing.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Gasp! Are you judging me for needing emotional support!? How cruel!" Kokichi cried dramatically. This made Shuichi roll his eyes, clearly used to the other's antics, but still being slightly exasperated by them.
"Hardly. You wouldn't need emotional support for this anyway." Shuichi stated, reaching for Kokichi's hand of cards that had been passed out and giving them to him. Kokichi pouted but smiled as he took the cards, not bothering to let Shuichi go.
"Awwwe man, my hand is so mediocre." The purplenette drawled. It wasn't a bad hand in actuality, it was actually pretty good. He specifically said mediocre because it confuses the players more as to what he has. They don't know if it's good or bad.
Shuichi watched carefully as the game began. He didn't expect for this round to be all that long, and it wasn't as he predicted. If you really look, you can tell what these people were thinking regardless of their poker faces. Although Shuichi himself wasn't skilled enough for that, Kokichi certainly was and no matter how many times he played, he always seemed to be lucky enough to get a good hand, it was even better that he was basically a master at this game.
Kokichi caressed Shuichi's waist lightly as he kicked his feet up on the table and threw down a ten. A chorus of grumbles rang out as a portion of money was pushed to him. He's been racking up quite a bit of money the whole night. Shuichi isn't surprised though; he always comes back with more money than he left with when he goes to gamble.
By the time the game ended, Kokichi was a dozen times richer than before, and everyone else who played lost basically all their money.
Kokichi stood up and stretched, letting out a pleased sigh at the Popping of his joints. He plucked his coat from Shuichi's hands, throwing it over his shoulders casually before taking up the money that he won.
"Welp! It was a good game ladies and gentlemen. A wonderful night will be nothing but your money grave." Kokichi said, waving the money around before shoving it in his bag that was sat beside him.
Kokichi spun around on his heel, wrapped an arm around Shuichi's waist again and started to walk with him.
"It's quite a lovely night, isn't it my beloved?" Kokichi asked him coyly, to which Shuichi nodded. "I suppose it is." He responded. The bluenette turned his head to look around before pausing.
"Oh, she's here, with someone else too." He stated. This statement made Kokichi swivel his head trying to see what his love was looking at and he was surprised to see that he was in fact correct.
Maki Harukawa. She was the detective currently on their case and has been on it the longest. Kokichi really had to commend her on her stubbornness, it made their heists even more interesting than before, and they found great joy in the chase.
Right now, she was dressed in a simple off the shoulder red dress that hugged her figure snuggly and gave her an elegant silhouette, she wore stiletto boots to go with it. Her long hair was tied up into a tight bun with a pin in it, her bangs falling down to her chin. She had on a simple black and red mask with a gold strap securing it to her face and dark red lipstick on her lips. She clearly didn't want to stand out too much here.
On the other hand, the guy next to her wasn't being quite as subtle, especially not with all that galaxy print.
The guy beside her wore a galaxy print button up with a dark purple vest over it. He wore a galaxy print coat with only one arm through the sleeve. His mask was, as expected, galaxy themed with the planet Saturn passing through the eye hole. He had on black dress pants with a galaxy gradient and-
"Is he wearing fucking crocs!?" Kokichi exclaimed in indignation. Shuichi stared and nodded slowly, not really understanding what he was seeing.
"I..did he not have any shoes to wear or…?" Shuichi tried to guess. This only made Kokichi snort in amusement. "You want to go bother them, don't you?" Shuichi asked, but it was more of a statement than a question.
A waitress walked by them as Kokichi giggled thinking of how he'll play with their little detective this time. "You know me too well, beloved. I really need to up my game." He claimed.
Shuichi smiled slightly and handed him a glass of red wine before taking a sip of his own whiskey. He licked his lips with a hum before saying, "I suppose you can try."
Kokichi watched as Shuichi escaped his hold and walked up to the duo, his back was straightened, and he rolled his shoulders back with his head held high. The swing in his hips clearly played up a sassier appearance and captured Kokichi's full attention.
Fuck.
Kokichi shook himself from his daze and quickly caught up, taking his coat off his shoulders and throwing it over Shuichi's instead. He hunched his posture and shoved his hands into his front pockets.
"Excuse me?" Shuichi said once they reached the duo. Maki paused what she was saying and turned to look at them. For a moment, her eyes narrowed minisculely, that would normally be a sign to panic, but the way she was looking at them seemed more as if her social battery was on 30%, so Kokichi didn't bother to stop Shuichi.
"Yes?" Maki answered. "So, so sorry to trouble you, sweets, but I was wondering where you got that pin, it looks gorgeous." Shuichi said with a smile. He did seem like he did want it. Alright, next thing on the list to steal then.
"Oh. I got it from a Chinese jewelry store in Wisteria, Kyoko.” She informed. Shuichi’s eyes lit up at this. “I hadn’t realized they had Chinese jewelry stores there! I’ll need to find it next time, thank you!” He said gratefully.
Kokichi looked at the guy next to her to see him looking Shuichi up and down quizzically. This blatant staring irked Kokichi so he spoke up. “U-uhm, is there a p-problem, sir?” He asked, with the slightest bit of an edge in his anxious tone.
The guy blinked, then rubbed the back of his neck with a nervous chuckle. “Nah, not really, it’s just…” He trailed off before turning to Shuichi and looking a bit serious, which slightly unnerved Shuichi.
“Are you a girl or a guy?” The silence amongst the group was so loud Kokichi could basically hear the crickets. Maki slapped him in the back of the head, making him yelp in pain. “Maki-roll! What was that for!?” Maki glared at him. “Do you want to die?”
Kokichi raised an eyebrow. So, the little detective has a boyfriend? That’s some news. On the other hand, Shuichi’s face showed clear confusion and a little disbelief. Couldn’t really blame him, Kokichi didn’t know how he didn’t notice by the very male voice Shuichi had. Though it is a very pretty voice, airy and sweet but can also transition to a low rumble, just something he personally admired.
“Well…that’s an odd question, but I’m a guy.” The guy gaped. “No way! You're too pretty to be a dude!” He exclaimed in disbelief. Shuichi laughed bashfully, but Kokichi’s gaze hardened immediately. He really didn’t like this guy, and it’s only been five minutes.
The galaxy clad man noticed Kokichi’s harsh glaring and flinched back. “Woah dude, what’d I do!?” He exclaimed with the tiniest bit of fright. Maki face palmed, “Kaito…” She sighed, clearly used to, but exasperated by the man’s idiocy.
A shine caught Kokichi’s attention from the corner of his eye. Purple and small, easily blending in with the scenery but the methodical blinking made it clear to him that it was different.
‘-... . --. .. -.‘
Begin.
Perfect timing. Kokichi looped his arm around Shuichi’s waist and pulled him flush against his side. “I hope you can see the problem now, sir. ” Kokichi turned the two away from them and walked away from the man who was just now realizing his mistake, and Maki who looked beyond done with people in general.
“It’s time?” Shuichi asked. “Yup! Kind of a bummer though, I didn’t even get to mess with them!” Kokichi whined disappointedly. Shuichi smiled slightly at him, “You would’ve found that guy’s house, put neon green hair dye in his shampoo and heated up both sides of his pillow sooner than just taunting him.” Shuichi said as they walked up the stairs to the second floor, heading to the bathroom.
Kokichi laughed. “Are you so sure?” Shuichi raised an eyebrow as they entered the bathroom, and Kokichi detached himself from the other to open the window. “With the way you were looking at him, you looked as though you were going to kill him.” Shuichi said as he took off the coat and flipped it inside out so that the checkered side was on top. Kokichi took it from him and grabbed an extravagant top hat and veiled sun hat from the railing outside.
He handed the sun hat to Shuichi as he responded. “Oh, so I’m an impulsive killer now?” Shuichi sputtered, “Of course not! You’d never kill a man.” He said matter-of-factly, taking a different mask out of the hat that was designed for night vision the moment they went into the dark and putting it on, shoving the hat on his head right after.
Kokichi giggled as he also swapped masks and put his own hat on his head. “I’m kidding~! Saihara-chan is getting so worked up!” He teased cheekily. Shuichi closed the veil, completely blocking Kokichi’s view of his face.
“Aww, He’s pouting now~.” Kokichi cooed. “Now who said I was pouting?” Shuichi huffed. Kokichi jumped off the windowsill and walked up to Shuichi. He slipped a hand through the veil and caressed his beloved’s cheek. Shuichi reached up to hold the hand on his cheek as Kokichi opened the veil to see that Shuichi was indeed pouting.
“Your cute face said so, Love!” He said, lifting his mask slightly to place a sweet kiss to the other’s lips. Shuichi smiled and kissed Kokichi back, relishing in the feeling of soft lips against his. When they parted again, Shuichi playfully closed the veil in Kokichi’s face.
Kokichi gasped in offense. “My Beloved! You’re cutting me off now!? I thought we had something? A connection!” Shuichi laughed at his dramatics, heels clicking as he walked to the window sill and put one foot on it.
Shuichi opened the veil again, revealing his smiling face as he blew a kiss to his love. “Of course not, Darling. I love you.” He said before jumping up to the next floor, leaving Kokichi absolutely floored.
He never failed to catch Kokichi off guard, and every time they had a heist he went from anxious, reserved and cute to outgoing, free, hot and even cuter . And Miu wondered why he loved this guy at first.
Holy fucking shit was he in love .
Kokichi quickly followed behind his partner, who was waiting for him on the roof with Hearts, a short girl with blonde pigtails. “What took you so long, Boss?” Hearts asked, crossing her arms with a pout.
“Well, if you really want to know~, your beloved Queen is just a little too good at su-” Shuichi slapped a hand over Kokichi’s mouth. He couldn’t see his face, but he was sure that Shuichi was blushing himself dead.
“Lies. Don’t listen to him, sweetie.” Shuichi said. Hearts laughed and nodded. “Will do!” Kokichi gasped in offense as Shuichi slid his mask down for him. “Are you choosing the Queen over your King!?” Hearst stared at him for a bit before nodding and saying “Yeah, Queen’s orders.”
Kokichi also stared back before shrugging, “Fair enough.” Shuichi sighed as the three made their way to the center of the roof where a red ‘x’ was spray painted over a very cracked part of the concrete which looked intentional. “Queen.” Shuichi hummed in acknowledgement. “Will we ever get to see your face?” Hearts asked curiously.
Shuichi took a moment to think about it. “Eventually I suppose.” Hearts lit up at this and started cheering excitedly. Kokichi couldn’t really blame her. DICE has never actually seen Shuichi’s face, for privacy reasons really, because Kokichi’s sure they’d freak out if they found out his identity as a detective. A pretty famous one at that.
Not to mention, if they ever saw him outside of heists, they would be completely jarred by the personality change. It’d be like looking at two different people with the same face. At least, that's how it felt for Kokichi when he took Shuichi on his first heist. That was definitely one of the most surprising things about his lovely detective.
“Alright, alright. That’s enough excitement for now. Go and tell Jack that they need to turn off the lights.” Hearts’ mood immediately soured. “Why do I have to go all the way to the electrical room to tell them. Can’t we just call them?” She whined. Shuichi felt as though he were looking at a pair of twins, but he always felt that way with these two.
“Nooope! Like I said before, in a place like this there’s bound to be a few types of security. I let the morse code pass because there were no hints there, but we’ve got detective’\s on the case, they could easily have someone on hand who’s ready to intercept any calls or messages given via any kind of radio communication, and you’re the fastest in the group.” Kokichi explained.
Hearts groaned and trudged her way to the other side of the roof. “You better buy me a lot of donuts for this!” She yelled. “I’ll buy you tons if you do good~!” Kokichi sang in response. Hearts jumped off the side, hurrying to inform Jack of the next step.
“Well, we’ve got about a minute and a half before the lights go out. Wanna remake that Titanic scene on the ledge?” Kokichi didn’t even need to see Shuichi to know he was deadpanning.
“No, we aren’t doing that.” He flatly rejected. “Damn it!” Kokichi cursed. Shuichi walked to one corner of the roof and opened the ventilation shaft. He took a pair of black gloves out of his pocket, slipped them on and grabbed a hammer and nail from inside.
He walked back over to Kokichi and kneeled down in front of the crack. “Now I get that you’re a very unorthodox person, but this is just ridiculous and dangerous.” Kokichi smirked. “Of course, but Jack will inform Ace, Diamonds and Clubs beforehand to evacuate any guests from the fourth floor.”
“I’m well aware, but still, are you sure there won’t be any stragglers?” Shuichi asked, positioning the nail directly in the center. “Yup! Ace is intimidating, Diamonds is sexy and people just feel the need to listen to Clubs so all will be well.” He reassured.
Suddenly, the two heard a lot of panic going in the building under them and Shuichi wasted no time lifting the hammer up and slamming it onto the head of the nail with all his strength. This made that area of the roof crumble and fall. Kokichi grabbed Shuichi by the arm and pulled him back so that they didn’t fall through.
“Thank you.” Shuichi thanked. Kokichi nodded and scooped him into his arms, carrying him as he jumped into the hole. The moment they were in the dark, the masks allowed them to see through it as they were designed to. Kokichi prepared himself quickly and he landed onto three pairs of hands belonging to Ace, Clubs and Joker as they threw the two into the air.
Kokichi tossed Shuichi towards the chandelier where he grabbed onto it and hoisted himself up properly as Kokichi also grabbed hold of a branch of diamonds. Shuichi grabbed him by the cape and hauled him up, making the shorter yelp.
“Hey! You could’ve been a little gentler, y’know!” Kokichi complained. Shuichi chuckled and leaned down, opening a compartment in his boots and pulling out a bag. He unfolded it and pulled out two carving knives, tossing one to Kokichi and the two quickly got to work as the guests panicked. They had about five minutes to get as many diamonds as they could before the lights came back on, they hadn’t expected to grab all of them, but definitely quite a bit of them.
The two men laughed quietly as they gathered up the priceless jewels, almost as if they were kids at a birthday party picking up candy from the pinata. The bag was almost completely full by the time they were done. Shuichi tied it closed tightly and swung it over his shoulder.
The very next moment, the lights came on as planned and they looked down to see the two detectives evacuating the guests while looking for the two thieves at the same time.
“Yoo hoo~ Over here!” Kokichi shouted. The duo simultaneously looked up and looked appalled by the display, before Maki seemed to understand what had just happened. She scowled and shouted, “Get down here and hand over those jewels!”.
“Hmm, no can do Haru-chan! These are essential for a very important task I have to do! Hey, hey, did you know that if I don’t get it done in 48 hours then I’ll die?” He taunted. Maki glared even harder. “Then die!” She exclaimed, enraged.
“Ooh! Feisty.” Kokichi teased. Shuichi leaned down with a flourish. “Hey! Who’s that?” He asked, pointing at Kaito. He already knew who he was from their early conversation, but he asked just to be a little cheeky.
Kaito looked offended that Shuichi didn’t know him. “I’m Kaito Momota! Luminary of the stars!” He introduced, putting a fist up. Shuichi visibly cringed at that introduction. “...Forget I asked.” He mumbled before perking up.
“Oh, wait a minute! Are you Akihiro Momota’s grandson?” He asked. Kaito looked alarmed, so did Maki actually. They had no clue how he knew that. “How do you know my grandpa!?” He shouted infuriated.
“I used to be a detective too!” Kokichi choked out a laugh at the quote, but it definitely wasn’t entirely wrong. The difference is that he is still a detective. This information took them off their guard, and Kokichi used that moment to once again pick up Shuichi and throw them a playful “Au revoir!” before jumping out from the hole they had created previously.
He was sure those two detectives would try and follow them. Since there were two of them, it would only make sense if one followed from the ground and the other chased after them directly. It’s simply something he knew Maki would do.
When Kokichi jumped to another roof, Shuichi tossed the bag off the side, and when they reached the other side of the roof an identical bag filled with unidentified objects was tossed up to them. Shuichi caught it and Kokichi set him down, now they were both running and jumping across rooftops.
Just like Kokichi predicted, it didn’t take long for Maki to catch up to them, she was a fast runner after all. The three ran, two against one and one of them had a bag of ‘loot’ with them. Shuichi holding the bag made him an obvious target, but that was exactly the plan.
The two thieves split ways by jumping to two different rooftops and as predicted once again, Maki prioritized the bag over catching Kokichi. So far so good really, all Kokichi had to do now was be weary of the other guy. It’s the first time he’s seen him so he doesn’t know how good he is on the field, although he doesn't look like much, it’s best to be safe than sorry.
Kokichi ran a good distance away before he began to descend. He ran down a flight of stairs that was on a rooftop all the way to the bottom and came out the back entrance. He dashed to the meet up location, running through the winding alleyway for a good few minutes before finding the rest of the gang.
“You have the bag?” He asked as soon as he was in ear shot. “Loaded up in the back, boss.” Ace informed frankly. Kokichi nodded and did a quick headcount to make sure everyone was there before opening the trunk and opening the bag. Once he made sure that they had exactly what they stole, he quickly got in the passenger seat.
“Everybody in, we got about ten minutes to get to him.” The gang nodded before they all filed into the van and Jack got in the front seat, stepping on the gas the moment the doors all closed.
The van sped down the road, passing out other cars and ignoring many angry honks. “Spades, hand me the grappling hook.” Kokichi commanded, holding out his hand for the item. Spades gave him the grappling hook and Kokichi examined it, making sure it’s condition was perfect and it wasn’t jammed.
“Boss, yer actin’ real jittery there.” Ace pointed out, and he wasn’t wrong either. Kokichi was jittery for obvious reasons, he didn’t want anything bad to happen to his beloved. Initially, he hadn’t wanted to go through with this part of the plan, it was extremely dangerous, and they only had one shot for various reasons, but Shuichi insisted that they could do it and that Kokichi shouldn’t worry about him. Who was Kokichi to doubt him?
“Nah, you’re seeing things, country boy.” He lied, trying to play it off, but they all could see how queasy he was from the way he fidgeted with the hook. “Queen’s an incredibly agile person, clever, smart and creative too, you shouldn’t worry too much.” Clubs reassured, putting a hand on Kokichi’s shoulder. Kokichi inhaled and exhaled deeply, doing his best to calm his racing heart.
“Alright.” He sighed. He’s just gotta trust that this will work and not worry about what could be. “Hey guys, gals and enby pals. We’ve got a cop car on our tail.” Diamonds informed whilst looking out the back window. Jack looked in the side mirror before accelerating their speed.
“Looks like a guy with purple hair and a goatee.” They said simply and Kokichi kissed his teeth. “Jack, get us as far away from that car as possible.” He commanded, to which Jack did his best to do as told.
“Woah, what’s up with that guy to make you so bitter? Is he bad or something?” Hearts asked. Kokichi scoffed, “Nothing much, just a guy being a little too comfortable around your beloved Queen.” He heard a few snickers around the back and whipped his head around to playfully glare at his gaggle of clowns.
“Hey! This is a serious matter y’know!” Kokichi complained. “S-sorry, haha, It’s just that I can really imagine that, cause Queen’s got quite the looks, not to mention a nice body!” Diamonds said. Kokichi grabbed her foot, making her yelp as he pulled off her shoe and threw it at her.
“Only I can talk about the features of my Beloved, excuse you!” He yelled. The rest of them all started laughing as Kokichi pulled off her other shoe and started to attack her with it. Diamonds grabbed her other shoe and started to fight back.
Soon Jack took a sharp turn which alerted all of them. Kokichi dropped the shoe and checked the grappling hook one last time before opening up the passenger door and looking out.
On the rooftops he could see two silhouettes running and jumping from building to building. Kokichi watched them until the first silhouette’s head turned downwards and caught sight of them. Shuichi ran as fast as he could before turning around and spilling the contents of the bag onto the concrete, which were hundreds of small balls and beads. This made Maki trip and fall to the ground as Shuichi ran to the edge of the building and jumped straight off.
Kokichi raised the grappling hook. The timing here was everything, and Shuichi trusted him enough to get it right, he couldn’t mess this up. Another moment passed and he shot the hook to the building across from him, firing straight into Shuichi’s path as the grappling hook reeled him forward.
Kokichi shot through the air, holding out an arm to catch Shuichi as he fell. The closer he got, the faster his heart beat in fear, anticipation and most of all, adrenaline. Once they were close, Shuichi looked in his direction, and for a split second Kokichi could see his face, and a grin was stretched from one cheek to the other, bright and beautiful.
Kokichi caught him, and once the hook got near to its end, he unhooked it from where it had caught onto the ledge, turned around and shot back at the van, hooking onto the top and activating the reeling mechanism again.
As they went flying to the ground, Shuichi laughed. Bright, loud and free. Kokichi himself couldn’t contain his own smile. Once they got close to the van, Jack jumped into the passenger seat and the two came crashing into the driver’s seat. Shuichi wasted no time throwing Kokichi into the back, closing the driver’s door and putting his foot on the petal.
He put his hand on the gear handle and made a sharp turn, making the whole van do a 180 which three the gang of clowns into the door, screaming with terror and excitement. Kokichi didn’t even have to see it to know that Shuichi had a wide and almost manic grin on his face. Shuichi drove into the oncoming traffic, expertly maneuvering through the many cars and blinding lights.
They drove right past Kaito too, and everyone in the back seat lifted their masks to show their smiles and mockingly stuck out their tongues. Kokichi laughed boisterously at this display, those idiot clowns never failed to make him laugh.
As they sped down the streets again, the group all cheered for another successful heist. Kokichi leaned over to the front seat and pushed his head under Shuichi’s veil, he lifted up his mask and pressed a kiss to his love’s cheek.
“I’m driving, King.” Kokichi leaned back, snickering at both Shuichi’s response and the mockingly disgusted noises DICE made.
God, did he love his boyfriend and their idiot clown gang.
