Chapter Text

The story begins on the planet of Mobius. The camera zooms in on Mobius and slowly descends toward the planet's surface. On the planet is an island called South Island, and on that island is a natural paradise known as Green Hill Zone or simply Green Hills. A blue light zips through the terrain and land of South Island. That blue light belongs to a blue hedgehog. His name is Sonic the Hedgehog.

"So, Let's start at the beginning."

Sonic running through the island.

"I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog, a little blue of super energy in an extremely handsome package.

Sonic runs across a ramp and shoots up into the air.

"Yeah!" Sonic shouted, smiling.

Sonic lands back on the ground and continues zipping through his island.

"I was born on June 23. Yeah, yeah, long time, don't question it. And for over thirty years, I've been a hero in my world.  Speaking of which, this is the island where I'm from. It's called South Island, located on the planet of Mobius."

Sonic running through the island. He runs towards a beach. There, he stops to take a break. He lays down on the sand and relaxes.

"It has everything. Sandy beaches..."

Sonic stops relaxing, gets up, and continues running. He runs towards a waterfall and drinks the fresh water from it.

"Casacading waterfalls..."

When he's done drinking from the waterfall, Sonic continues running.

"Public access to loop-de-loops.

Sonic, smiling, runs through a bunch of loop-de-loops for fun.

" And I never have to catch a school bus because I can run across the entire island in less than two seconds. "

Sonic runs through the last loop-de-loop and continues running straight.

"I know! Pretty sweet island. Right?"

Sonic slows down and enters a small village on the island.

"I was born with extraordinary powers and was told to keep them a secret."

Sonic goes to one of the houses in the village and enters it.

"And like any kid, I did the exact opposite."

Sonic goes to the living room to hang out with his parents. Their names are Bernadette Hedgehog and Jules Hedgehog. Bernadette is Sonic's mother, and Jules is his father.

"Those are my parents. My mom, Bernadette, and my dad, Jules. I live with them, and they good care of me.  They're basically Obi-Wan Kenobi... if Obi-Wan Kenobi split in two and became two hedgehogs, one that is female and made from flesh and blood and the other that is male and a robot. That's what it's like living on South Island. And I figure you know the rest. "

Sonic freeing a bird inside one of Dr. Robotnik's robots.

"I freed some innocent animals from slavery..."

Sonic hanging out with Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Rouge, Cream, and Big in the park at the village.

"...made some friends..."

Sonic fighting Dr. Robotnik in his fortress.

" ...and battled my enemies, especially Eggman."

At the cliff, Sonic appears as he walks towards the edge of the cliff.

" Yep. I saved the world a bunch of times. It's kinda tough. You see, in this world, I'm real."

Sonic sits on the cliff, smiling as he looks at the sunset.

"But in your world, I'm a famous character in the whole canon." Sonic said, breaking the fourth wall and revealing to be narrating.

Montage of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game.

"For over thirty years in your world, my franchise started with my video games..."

Sonic reading several Sonic the Hedgehog comics.

"... I have my comics like the Archie comic book series, the IDW comic book series, and the Fleetway comic book series..."

Montage of Sonic SATAM.

"...I also have my TV shows like the Western cartoons The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic SATAM, and Sonic Underground, the anime Sonic X, and the CGI cartoons Sonic Boom and Sonic Prime. I also got a two-part OVA..."

Montage of the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film.

" And finally, I got my very own films made by Paramount Pictures. The cast looks way past cool!"

Sonic, who is laying on the grass and looking up at the night sky. A shooting star passes by.

"  But I know that I won't be able to find the answer here on South Island. The reason I'm here alone is because I thought it'll be nice for me to travel solo for a little while. And you know what I've been thinking about? I always wondering what's your world look like, and who knows? I would love to travel there if that would happen. And it would be awesome."

Sonic smiles before closing his eyes and imagine his dream adventure in the real world would be amazing. Before he takes off, running around the island.

"So, I'm off to explore the world and find the answer to the itch."

He runs off into the night sky, leaving behind a trail of blue light.

"Beep!" "Beep!" "Beep!"

The sound of an alarm clock is heard in the background. The alarm clock on a nightstand. It's ringing loudly. A hand turns it off. The hand belongs to a teenage boy named Cillian Darcy. He wakes up as he opens his eyes and sits up. He yawns and stretches his arm.

Then, he gets out of his bed and walks to the bathroom. Cillian standing in front of his bathroom mirror while brushing his teeth. He spits out a bit of toothpaste foam into the sink and stares at himself in the mirror before putting on his glasses. He grabs a Sonic the Hedgehog pendant on his dresser.

Cillian grabs the necklace and puts it on. Cillian's a total Sonic the Hedgehog fan much like everyone else. He likes the newer games, but he doesn't mind playing the classics. When he's done getting dressed for school, he leaves his room. His mother, Lisa Breyer, is in the kitchen. She's cooking breakfast for him and herself. Cillian appears as he walks downstairs to the kitchen and sees his mom.

"Morning, mom." Cillian said.

"Good morning, Cillian. I guess you smelled breakfast." Lisa said.

"Yeah, summer's almost here. I'm ready for it." Cillian said.

"I'm sure you are. I just want you to remember that summer break is also a great time to focus on your studies." Lisa said.

"I know, mom. I promise I'll get some studying done." Cillian said.

"That's my boy!" Lisa said smiling. "Now, go ahead and have some breakfast before you head off to school."

Cillian sits at the kitchen table and starts eating his breakfast: a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes with a side bowl of fruit salad and a glass of orange juice. Lisa smiles at him. He smiles back at her.

"Listen, I'll be working late tonight. So, I'm leaving you the money for pizza." Lisa said.

"Okay." Cillian said.

"Good. Oh, and Cillian?" Lisa asked.

"Yes, Mom?" Cillian asked.

"Please try to move on from what your step-father done." Lisa said to her son.

"Yeah, I'll try." Cillian said.

"Good, I'll see you later." Lisa said, smiling.

After Lisa left for work, Cillian hopes that that he'll redeem for what his step-father done. His step-father was kind of a joke in the town, famous for his tendency to start projects with great enthusiasm and then abandon them later on due to lack of interest. Soon, Cillian finishes his breakfast. He grabs his bag and walks to school.

The school he goes to is Eleanor Roosevelt High School. It's a high school in New York City. He sees his only friend, Rory Mayne, walking by. Rory is the school jock who defends Cillian from bullies.

"Hey, Rory." Cillian said.

"Hey, bud. What's up?" Rory asked his best friend.

"Nothing much. What's about you? How's it going?" Cillian asked.

"Eh. it's going pretty well. Thanks for asking. So, are you ready for the summer?" Rory asked.

"Yeah, can't wait!" Cillian said to Rory.

"That's good. Well, see you at lunch, Cillian." Rory said.

"Okay. See ya." Cillian said.

Rory walks away as he goes to his class. Cillian takes a deep breath and smiles before walking to his first class.

In the cafeteria, Cillian took a second to adjust to the deafening din of hundreds of teenagers talking and laughing. He walked past a table full of popular girls and saw his best friend from elementary school, Hannah, sitting with them, laughing at something all the other girls were laughing about. Cillian and Hannah had been inseparable from kindergarten through fifth grade, playing on the swings or jumping rope together at every recess and playing video games or board games at each other's houses after school.

But in middle school, popularity started to become more and more important to Hannah, and she drifted away from Cillian and toward the crowd who was always giggling about clothes and boys. What Cillian understands but Hannah does not is that those girls never accept Hannah as more than a hanger-on. Hannah lives in a plain little house in a plain little neighborhood and doesn't have the money or social status to make the cut. The popular girls don't push her away, but they never let her into their inner circle, either. It makes Cillian sad that Hannah prefers to accept crumbs from the popular girls rather than real friendship from him. But then, a lot of things make Cillian sad. Cillian sees Rory and sits with him.

"Y'know, I was thinking." Rory said, smiling.

"What?" Cillian asked.

"Now that we're going to be juniors, well, I think it's about time we got you a girlfriend next year." Rory said.

Cillian ponders the thought, somewhat uneasily.

"How am I going to find a girlfriend?" Cillian asked.

"Well, there's Gail Justin, the girl with a mustache." Rory said.

Rory points at Gail Justin, the girl with a mustache, talking to her boyfriend, who also has a mustache.

"She's taken." Cillian said. "Besides, I don't like girls with facial hair."

"Oh, right." Rory said. " Good point. Well, there's also Sally Hayes, one of the sophomores at the school."

Sally Hayes, a 16-year-old girl who is also sophomore at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. She walks by Cillian, smiles at him, and winks at him.

"See? She likes you." Rory said, smiling.

"I guess a relationship isn't out of the question." Cillian said.

"Yeah, I think it's time for you to take the plunge. I'll help you out." Rory said, smiling.

"Alright. Thanks, Rory." Cillian said.

"No problem." Rory said.

A local jock named Rex walks to the two boys and sits with them.

"Hey boys, what's going on?" Rex asked.

"We're gonna find Cillian a girl." Rory said.

"Oh, I can help as well if you like, Cillian." Rex said smiling.

"I'm good, guys. Really. Thank you." Cillian said, politely.

"Alright, if you're sure. Well, we better get to class. Lunch is almost over." Rory said.

The boys stand up and leave the cafeteria.

The sound of the bell rings, signalling the end of the school day. Cillian and Rory walk out of the school. As they walk, they talk about their plans for the summer.

"So, what do you want to do this summer?" Rory asked.

"I want to spend some time with my mom." Cillian said.

"That's a great idea. You should also go on some adventures with us." Rory said.

Cillian was shocked about the boys' upcoming road trip this summer. He knew that he promised his mother that he can focus on his studies. He decided to join them.

"Yeah. That sounds like fun." Cillian said, smiling.

"Alright, it's a plan then. Well, see you tomorrow." Rory said, smiling.

"See ya, Rory." Cillian said.

Rory walks away to meet up with the football team. Cillian's about to head home until...

"Cillian." A voice said, whispering to him.

Cillian sees someone. It's Mrs. Mayne, Rory's mother and Cillian's den mother. He walked towards her.

"Mrs. Mayne, I just saw Rory..." Cillian said before being cutted off when Mrs. Mayne shushes him.

"Do you remember what Saturday is?" Mrs. Mayne asked.

"The final game of the school year?" Cillian asked.

"No. It's the big birthday." Mrs. Mayne said smiling.

Cillian looks confused for a bit until he realizes what she means.

"It's Rory's birthday. Now, what I thought we would is to give him a party he will never forget." Mrs. Mayne said.

"Oh. Uh, yeah. About that. You know, I don't think Saturday is such a good day." Cillian said to Mrs. Mayne.

"But it's his birthday." Mrs. Mayne said.

"Well, yeah, but see, I have this thing going on that night." Cillian said.

"Cillian Darcy, I am surprised at you. You are Rory's oldest and closest friend in the whole wide world. I can't even conceive of having a surprise party for Rory if you're not there. He'd be so disappointed. He'd never forgive either of us. Now, who should we invite?" Mrs Mayne asked, guilt tripping Cillian.

"You mean you haven't invited anyone?" Cillian asked.

"About twenty-five kids would be perfect, don't you think?" Mrs. Mayne asked.

Cillian couldn't handle the guilt trip.

"Yes." Cillian said in defeat.

The next day at school, Cillian's in tech class, fixing his old PlayStation 2 console. Rory finds him working and decided to talk to him.

"Hey." Rory said.

"Sup, Roar? Aren't you supposed to hang with the jocks?" Cillian asked.

"Nah, they have detention after school." Rory said, smiling. "What's with the old PS2?"

"Oh, it broke this morning, so I have to fix it." Cillian said.

"Cool. You know, it's my birthday tomorrow. Listen, the Big Game is postponed till next weekend but I'm going out for dinner tomorrow night, and later on, if you wanted to stop by..." Rory said.

"I'd love to but I'm going to be tied up pretty late." Cillian said.

"It's cool, bud." Rory said smiling.

"Happy birthday, man." Cillian said, patting his best friend on the back.

Rory smiles at his friend and give him a fist bump before he leaves. Rex walks inside of the tech class and sees Cillian.

"Hey, did he find out about the party?" Rex asked.

"No. It's a relief." Cillian said. "So, who did you invite?"

"The others, Hannah, you." Rex said to Cillian.

"Rex, Mrs Mayne wanted me to invite you as well." Cillian said.

"I hate surprise parties." Re said.

"Come on, man. Do it for Rory." Cillian said.

"Fine. Just for him, but not for you." Rex said, finally agreed.

"Thanks, Rex. And believe me, the party's going to be a total disaster when nobody shows up." Cillian said.

"I'll see what I can do, okay bud?" Rex asked.

"Okay." Cillian said.

Rex smiles and exits the tech class.

In his bedroom, Cillian's been doing some homework until he gets a notification text on his smartphone that Rory's birthday bash is coming up in a few minutes. Lisa's at work. So, Cillian orders some pizza. He knows he has to study for the summer as he promised, but he needs to have fun. Cillian smiles and decides to sneak out.

At Rory's house where Cillian enters to help the Mayne family gather. He's part of their family due to his friendship with Rory.

"Steven, I asked you not to do that. Cillian, where are all the kids you invited? Rory's gonna be here any minute." Mrs. Mayne said.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure who's coming yet." Cillian said.

"That was your department." Mrs. Mayne said irritated.

"Well, yeah, I know. But I told you it was gonna be hard on such short notice to get everyone together." Cillian said to Mrs. Mayne.

"That's alright. I understand. It's Rory's birthday, and I'm sure he'll appreciate whatever we have." Mrs. Mayne said.

"Yeah. I'm sure you did the best you could." Cillian said, sarcastic.

"Get everybody in the foyer, please. He's gonna be here any second." Mrs. Mayne said.

Cillian feels uncomfortable about the party and thinks he made a mistake about coming here.

"Okay, Cillian." Mr. Mayne said. "You heard what the woman said. Let's have a party."

So, Cillian helps the Maynes set up the party. They put up the decorations and prepare the food. Soon, the party is ready. Mrs. Mayne senses Rory, her son, approaching.

"Here he comes. Quick! Hide!" Mrs. Mayne said.

They all hide, and sure enough, Rory arrives. He enters the room and looks around in confusion.

"Hello? Is anyone home?" Rory asked.

Rory turns on the lights, and his family and Cillian come out of hiding.

"Surprise! Happy birthday, Rory!" Everyone shouted.

Rory is surprised to find the house party-ready. He is delighted and thanks everyone for their hard work.

"Wow! This is amazing! Thanks!" Rory said smiling.

Rory's friends arrive as well and are awestruck by the decorations around the interior of the house. Rory smiles gleefully and hugs everyone. Cillian, Rory, and his friends partying in his house. They all enjoy the party and have a great time. Cillian feels relieved and happy to have been part of the surprise. He knows that he made the right choice by coming over and helping out. But what they don't know is that Rory's friends Oliver, Jenny, Maisie, Milly, Rex, Jake, Jenny, Oliver, Olivia, Toni, and Axel act like jerks and refuse to participate in the activities.

"Psst. Hey babe. Wanna make out?" Oliver asked his girlfriend.

Jenny giggles and nods. Oliver and Jenny sneak upstairs to make out in Rory's little brother's bedroom. Mrs. Mayne intervenes and throws them out of the house, and the others act really indignant and walk out of the party.

"You can come with us if you want, bud." Rex said to Cillian.

"It's okay. I'll stay." Cillian said to Rex.

"Cool bro. I'll see you at school." Rex said, smiling.

Rex exits the house. Rory turns to Cillian.

"Thanks for everything." Rory said.

"No problem, bud. Let's go get some birthday cake, shall we?" Cillian asked.

"Let's." Rory said, walking to the others.

"Excuse me. This is my favorite part." Mrs. Mayne said, looking around for some matches. "Um, Cillian, we don't have any matches."

Cillian closed his eyes in annoyance and irritation that he couldn't take it anymore.

"I'll get them." Rory said.

"Get the lighter off my desk, son." Mr. Mayne said.

"Okay." Rory said.

Rory walks to his father's den to get the lighter from the drawer. While finding it, he finds a gun. He has a good idea in mind. Cillian walks in.

"Hey, Cillian. Check this out." Rory said, starts twirling the gun for him.

"Rory, really?" Cillian asked.

Cillian ended up sees the gun that Rory is playing with and gasps.

"Rory. Rory, put that gun down!" Cillian shouted.

Rory accidentally throws the gun high up to the ceiling. Then, it falls down and hits him on the head. He collapses on the floor. Cillian gasps in shock.

"Rory?" Cillian asked.

Rory is unconscious. Cillian starts to back away.

"Help!" Cillian shouted.

Cillian runs out of Rory's father's den to get Mr. and Mrs. Mayne and everyone else. They all rush to help him. Mrs. Mayne calls 911.

"Hello? 911? My son is hurt! Send in the ambulance!" Mrs. Mayne cried on the phone.

Soon, the ambulance shows up and parks near Rory's house. Two paramedics get out of the vehicle and take out a stretcher. They enter the house, put Rory on the stretcher, and take him inside the ambulance. They get back into the vehicle, and it drives away to the hospital. Rory lays in the hospital bed, with his parents and Cillian standing around him. He wakes up, and his parents and Cillian are relieved.

"Why wouldn't you do that, Cillian?" Rory asked, coldly.

"What?" Cillian asked.

"You should've stopped me from doing it. This is the worst birthday ever! You're the worst friend ever! I hate you! Get out of here!" Rory shouted angrily.

Cillian was shocked that his only friend hates him.

"Get out!" Rory shouted.

"But, Rory, we're friends." Cillian said to Rory.

"Nice try! And you are uninvited to my upcoming road trip!" Rory said, coldly.

"Aw, come on, Rory!" Cillian said.

"No chance, we're not friends, uninvited!" Rory shouted angrily. "Get out!"

The Maynes glare at him. Lisa enters the hospital to see what's going on.

"Hey, what's going on here?" Lisa asked.

"Your son hurt our baby!" Mrs. Mayne shouted angrily. "So, we're suing!"

"Suing?" Lisa asked.

"Wait until you hear from my attorney." Mr. Mayne said angrily.

Lisa's driving the car with Cillian's sitting shotguns.

"Mom, say something, please." Cillian said.

Lisa sighs.

"You could've been killed. You know that, right?" Lisa asked. "I can't believe you could be so cruel."

"Mom, it wasn't me. I tried to tell Rory to put the gun down and that's it." Cillian said to his mom.

"I know. And now the Maynes are suing you for his death. Ellen Marks is preparing to organize an intervention. You don't want that, do you?" Lisa asked.

"No, I don't, mom!" Cillian said.

Lisa looks at her son and holds his hand. She's not mad at him, she's just disappointed. Cillian looks at the city of New York and realizes they missed the next exit.

"Hey, we missed the next exit." Cillian said, looking at the city.

"I know." Lisa said. "We're not going home."

"What? Where are we going anyway?" Cillian said, confused.

"To the airport. Your flight to LA leaves in an hour." Lisa said.

Cillian was shocked what his mom just saying. "Wait, I'm going to LA?" He asked.

"Yes. I packed your suitcase and your games are in it. Might be good for two weeks. You're gonna stay with your father's until all of this blows over." Lisa said.

Cillian was shocked what his mom just said about his dad. "Wait, my dad? I don't even know him." He said.

"I know, but all you need to know that he's part of your family. He wants to use two weeks just to get to know him." Lisa said, explaining to him about his dad.

"Really? Mom, I have summer break coming soon. I have to travel. It's just too soon." Cillian said.

"You don't have a choice, Cillian." Lisa said.

"Do I gotta go to court or something?" Cillian asked in worried.

"No. No, your father, he made calls. He fixed everything. It's all done. He has contacts with the best lawyer to help." Lisa said.

"Oh, good." Cillian said in relief.

"Just give him a chance. If it doesn't work out, that's fine. You can travel around the world." Lisa said to Cillian.

"Just two weeks?" Cillian asked.

"That's all I'm asking." Lisa said, begging him.

Cillian has no choice but to decided to give his dad a chance. "Alright." He said.

Lisa's car arrives at the airport. Cillian gets out of the car and looks at her, tears flowing from his eyes. He looks away and enters the airport. Lisa sighs and shakes her head. She drives away. Cillian boarding the plane headed for Los Angeles. He's worried that his father will hate him. He sits in his seat, closes his eyes, and begins napping.
