Underestimation

Summary:

In which Deadlock underestimates how effective an agent Mirage can be.

Work Text:

Deadlock had previously heard about Mirage, the Autobot who could hide in plain sight. When he had been given the mission requiring him to infiltrate a base where this particular Autobot was stationed, Deadlock hadn't been sure what exactly to anticipate. He had never seen Mirage in action and the briefing hadn't explained much other than that Mirage would be the chief threat to success.

No matter.

Besides, Deadlock had been on infiltration missions before. All he needed to do was secure some intel stored on-site. He knew what he was doing. It would fine. Straightforward. A quick in and out job for the boss.

Getting inside the base had been oddly easy enough when one could creep in on silent feet and hide like a waiting nightmare in the gray spaces between shadows. The Autobots seemed to be careless in this installation's security.

However, when, in a seemingly empty side passage, a hand materialized in front of his face to cover his mouth, Deadlock froze, off guard.

"Are you lost?" a voice whispered into his audio sensors. The muzzle of a blaster was pressed against his back.

Deadlock realized all at once the magnitude of his error in judgment.
