Chapter Text
Kase was in her room working out per usual ready to keep her position as team captain on the lacrosse team tomorrow at tryouts while listening to some music through her headphones. Since she had her headphones on she couldn’t hear Stiles downstairs banging on her front door.
Her dad, who was trying to sleep, on the other hand could hear Stiles banging on the door at 10pm on a school night, so he went downstairs to yell at her best friend. “Stilinski! McCall! What are you doing here! It is a school night and the FIRST day of school, and some of us are trying to get a good night's sleep unlike you delinquents”
Stiles jumped back at the sound of his voice and put on a not so innocent smile “Hey coach! How ya doing? Is Kase awake? What am I thinking, of course she is. Anyway I need to talk to her so if you could just step aside and let me go upstairs, that would be great” He said talking real fast and Bobby just stared at him before he moved aside and swept his hand towards the stairs “Sweet! Thanks! Scott come on”
“I know this is difficult for the two of you but please try and not wake me up or I’ll kick both of you off of the team” He threatened before he went back to his room and slammed his door shut
Stiles and Scott went up the stairs behind him ready to push Kase down the stairs to go to the woods with them. Scott pushed Kase’s door open to see and hear that she had changed to a speaker now instead of her headphones. Scott and Stiles watched their friend do pull ups to The Greatest Showman soundtrack, Stiles looked at Scott before they both started laughing at Kase who dropped down from the pull up bar and just stared at them “What are y’all doing in my room? Actually, how did y’all get into my house?” She said grabbing her towel and drying her body off
“You’re dad let us in” Scott said looking Kase up and down before his eyes trailed back up to Kase who was looking at him with a raised eyebrow “So uh wanna go look for a dead body with us?” Scott asked and Kase just laughed and nodded her head “We’ll be outside the door when your ready” Scott said before he quickly left the room with Stiles and Stiles was just laughing at him
Kase walked downstairs to grab her keys “If you get caught Stiles, we won’t have a ride home so I’m going to grab my car too and park it far away from yours so it doesn’t seem as if you are here with others” Kase said picking her keys up and turning to face Scott and Stiles who were both looking at her with a raised eyebrow “What?”
“Why do you always assume what we are doing is going to get us in trouble with the law?” Stiles said, narrowing his eyes at Kase forgetting that Scott had mentioned the dead body “Why can’t we just hang out in the woods?” Stiles said crossing his arms and huffing
“You mean besides the fact that y’all asked me if I wanted to find a dead body? Everything we do is sketchy, now let's go before your dad finds the body before us” Kase said walking pass Stiles to go to her car, Scott rolled his eyes and followed Stiles to his car while he was mumbling underneath his breath
BEACON HILLS PRESERVE
The two cars pull into the preserve and Kase drives far away from the jeep. Once Stiles and Scott are done with their conversation from earlier they walk over to Kase who was fiddling with something “What are you doing?” Scott said leaning against the car and looking into Kase’s trunk
“Grabbing some flashlights and making sure they work” Kase said before she straightened up and handed Stiles a flashlight before she bent back down and grabbed a knife “Don’t look at me like that” Kase closed her trunk and started to walk in the woods while turning the flashlight on “Y’all gonna come with me or are y’all just gonna stand there” The boys jogged over to her and starting making their way through the woods
“Are we seriously doing this” Scott asked walking next to Stiles
Stiles turned his head to Scott “You’re the one who is always bitching about how nothing happens in this town” Stiles said before he turned back to where he was walking “Kinda seems like a you problem since you’re always complaining” He said patting Scott’s back and walking after Kase
Scott just stared at Stiles and started walking behind him explaining himself “I was trying to get a good night's sleep before practice tomorrow” He said and Stiles just scoffed from where he was “What?”
Stiles replied snidely “Because sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort. Plus you are competing with Jackson and our absolute tank of a friend. You may not have noticed but she’s unusually buff” Stiles said shaking his head at Scott who kept trying to explain himself of why he wanted to try out
“No, I’m playing this year! I’m gonna make the first line actually” Scott said proudly and both Stiles and Kase just burst out laughing “Come on guys believe in me! Kase!”
“I can’t help you bro, you’re a twig! Unless you magically get stronger, I wouldn’t count on making first line” Kase said stopping so they could catch up with her “Anyway that’s the spirit!”
Stiles agreed with her “See! That’s what you need to hear! Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one” Stiles said patting Scott on the back
They were walking in silence looking for the body when Scott spoke up from behind them in a sarcastic tone “Did y’all ever think about what half of the body we are supposed to be finding?” Stiles and Kase just stopped in there tracks and looked at each other before they turned their heads towards Scott
“Well…no”
“Great and uh… what if whoever killed the body is still out here? Did y’all think of that either or no?” Scott said sarcastically again and Kase just kept walking ahead as if she didn’t hear him “Kase what are you going to do? That person cut a body in half and you just have a knife” Scott said concerned but Kase just kept walking forward
“Well that was something I didn’t think of…” Stiles said and Scott just laughed in amusement and rolls his eyes as they stark climbing up a hill
“Very comforting to hear that you’ve planned this out with your usual attention to detail” Scott and Kase said at the same time
“I know”
Scott's breathing starts to become rapid, shallow, and wheezy as the two continue up the hill, with Scott struggling to keep up with Stiles and Kase’s quick pace “Maybe the severe ashmatic should be the one with a flashlight” Scott leans his back against a nearby tree as he pulls his inhaler out of his pocket. However, when Stiles and Kase keep pushing on, Scott continues to make his way up the hill after them. When they see a handful of people ahead of them waving flashlights around as part of the search, Stiles, Kase and Scott dive behind a large fallen tree branch as they plan their next move, turning off the flashlights so they don't attract attention.
Unfortunately for all of them, Stiles' impatience eventually wins out, and he whispers back to Scott and Kase as he jumps up and runs toward the action “Wait Stiles!” The two of them whispered and shouted at him and Stiles just waved his hand at them telling them to come on “Stiles!” They whisper shouted at him again but Stiles just kept on going
Kase looked at Scott and picked up his inhaler and shoved it in his hand “Dude, you’re gonna die if you don’t take a few hits of this” She said and Scott just nodded his head. Scott quickly takes a hit from his inhaler before scrambling to catch up with him. He tries his best to call after his best friend without also alerting anyone else that they are there.
“Stiles! Stiles!” Stiles finally hears the last attempt to call his name, but the split second of distraction causes the nearby K9 officer to start barking at him, scaring him so much he falls backwards onto the ground. The deputy with the search dog immediately points his flashlight at Stiles as he tries to recover from the shock
“Hold it right there!” The deputy shouted and Stiles put his hands up while Scott and Kase, several meters behind him, hid behind a nearby tree, pressing their backs to it and Scott closed his eyes as though it would keep him from being seen. Just then, another male voice is heard-- it is Noah Stilinski, Stiles' father and the Sheriff of Beacon County.
“Hang on, hang on” Stiles stands to his feet, shielding his eyes from the bright flashlight held toward him by the deputy “This little delinquent here belongs to me”
Stiles tries to play it cool and greet his dad “Dad! How ya doing?”
Sheriff looks at Stiles with a mix of frustration, exasperation, and exhaustion “So do you listen to all of my phone calls?” Stiles laughed and said no, Stilinski gave Stiles a look, and Stiles finished his sentence by saying that he doesn’t listen to the boring ones. The Sheriff just sighs and nods as though he's accepted this truth about his son before looking around the surrounding area “Where’s your usual partners in crime?” Stiles immediately tried to play dumb
“Scott and Kase? Scott’s at home, he said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for the first day back to school tomorrow” Stiles said rubbing his head sheepishly
“And Kasey?” Sheriff said not buying a single bit of what stiles was saying
Stiles rubbed his head even more “Well Kase is at home…working out like usual but she did say that she was gonna stop by the florist because she forgot to put something away so if her car isn’t there then she’s at the florist” Stiles said lying on the spot and Kase just silently groaned from where she was because she didn’t have the keys on her.
Sheriff just stared in disbelief as Stiles just kept on lying to him. Stiles rocked back on his feet and clapped his hands “Just little ol me…alone…in the forest…by myself” He said and it is obvious that the sheriff doesn't buy what Stiles is saying, and he lifts his flashlight and tries to get a look around to find Scott and Kase, who are still hiding behind the tree
“Scott! Kasey! You guys out there? Scott? Kasey?” He shouted into the woods. When Scott and Kase don't materialize in front of him, the sheriff reluctantly determines that they aren’t with Stiles after all. He then sighs before grabbing Stiles roughly by the back of the neck and steering him toward the entrance to the preserve. “Well, young man, I'm gonna walk you back to your car... And then you and I are gonna have a conversation about something called invasion of privacy.”
As Stiles and the sheriff leave, Kase and Scott just looked at each other grateful that Kase had brought her car with them or else they would be screwed “Let’s move before they start coming this way” Kase said and Scott just started walking ahead following the same path that they had walked to get here.
Thunder and lightning flicker overhead as they carefully make their way back, Scott is pulling up the hood to his sweatshirt to try to keep his head dry from the steady rain. It's evident that he's unnerved by the sounds of the forest animals around him, but when he makes it to a foggy clearing, he becomes unnerved by the fact that it falls totally silent. He pulls his inhaler out of his hoodie once again and shakes it, intending to take another hit when suddenly, a herd of deer begin frantically stampeding toward them, trampling the two of them over and causing his inhaler to fly several meters away from where they were on the ground.
Once the deer have cleared out, Kase gets up to her feet and helps Scott up to. Together the two of them start looking for his inhaler with the flashlight that was flickering on and off “Oh come on! Don’t die on me” Kase muttered underneath her breath tapping the flashlight on her hands a few times while she was doing that, she heard Scott fall again so she turned the flashlight to where he was walking ahead of her and saw him on the ground next to half of a body.
Once Scott registered the body, he scrambled away from it and fell down the hill that they were on. Kase runs over to the side of the hill where he was and jumped down which wasn’t a good idea because she landed on the knife that went through her leg “Fuck” She takes the knife out of her leg and stumbles over to Scott to help him up. Scott wraps his arm around her and together the two of them make their way out of the woods wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.
Suddenly there was a growl behind the two of them causing them to freeze in fear. The two of them looked at each other before they turned to see what was behind them only to see a large wolf with glowing red eyes standing there. Out of instinct the two of them quickly tried to run from the wolf but the wolf was much faster and leapt at the two of them. The two of them fell over, though they attempted to crawl away the beast grabbed Scott’s ankle and dragged him closer just to bite him on the right hip.
Kase takes the bloody knife in her hand and crawls over to Scott to stab the beast even if it did little to stop it. The beast turns its head towards Kase and viciously bites her on her shoulder, Kase shouts out in pain and the beast runs away from them clearly not wanting to kill them just yet. Scott crawls over to Kase and the two of them help each other up so they can get out of the woods.
They stumbled into the road and were nearly hit by an SUV but luckily the car missed them. The two of them stumbled over to where Kase had parked and Scott was looking at his wound while Kase was looking through her trunk looking for the bandages she kept in there “Hey Scott come here and let me dress your wounds” She said standing up and looking at Scott who had lifted his jacket up to look at his wound
Scott wobbled over to her and sat down on the trunk of the car after she had closed it. Scott sat still enough for her to carefully wrap his wound up “Fucking Stiles, why did he just run off like that?” Kase said talking to herself while she finished up with Scott’s wound and started working on her shoulder
“We should probably get going since the beast could still be looking for us especially considering that we are literally bleeding out right now” Scott said pointing to Kase’s blood covered shirt and she nodded and threw the rest of the bandages in the back seat and got in the driver seat.
While they were driving away there was a loud wolf howl in the distance which made Kase slam her foot down on the gas
