If Only You Had Common Sense (Sadly Abandoned)

Summary:

Some sense gets knocked into major characters rather and nothing (read: everything) changes.
How will Midoriya and other hero's combat the rise of villains with their now honed intellect? Well let's find out.

Old Summary: What if the major characters in My Hero had common sense? Well let's find out.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Midoriya knew what he was and what he was worth, but that didn’t stop him from dreaming of being the number one hero. Until he found a hidden section of the hero forum known as underground rankings. Underground ranking? He’d heard of the hero ranking but why would there be a different ranking section? He clicked through it and quickly found out why. These heroes had zero information published. There was only a hero name, that was it. But this wasn’t what intrigued him. No, it was the number next to the underground ranking that showed what their real ranking would be if they were a part of it.

And that, is what brought him to have 17 tabs open, desperately searching for clips of the number one underground hero, Eraserhead. He would be an unbelievable 3rd place on the normal list had he not been an underground hero. So far, he had only found one video and all it had was the rustling of cloth, a red flash, and the muffled sounds of fighting, and that was after multiple hours of searching. So he decided to search the other heroes and found someone he recognized, Ms. Joke. She was listed as a semi-underground hero and was on both rankings due to this status. All the videos he found of her displayed not only her quirk, but her pure physical prowess. That was when he decided, he would become an underground hero and become the number one underground hero at that.

Now the only issue was getting in shape for the UA exam. He only had three years and wanted to be as fit as possible and know as many fighting techniques as possible. He could do this, maybe. He should probably focus on getting in shape and one or two fighting styles for now. He could learn other styles once he was in UA.

It had been a month and his effort was finally starting to show. The only issue with this was that this would mean that others would also see his progress. Which meant that Bakugou would see his progress. God, it would suck if that happened, I would probably get cornered and burnt aga-

A loud and brash voice cut in, “OI Deku, Stop mumbling before I beat your ass.”

“S-sorry Kacchan… I d-didn’t know I was mumbling…” Stupid! He should’ve known that he was mumbling since he was starting to panic.

“Just top talking already, I don’t want to hear your voice for the rest of the damn day,” Bakgou cut in right as the bell rang.

Oh boy, Midoriya knew that he was in trouble now. Kacchan never spoke calmly to him unless it was when his mom could overhear.

Midoriya tried to run out of class as fast as possible after the bell rang but Bakugou was hto on his heels and caught him and dragged him into an empty classroom. “Why the FUCK have you started working out. Don’t even fucking try to deny that you haven’t, I can clearly see that you put on muscle in the past month,” Bakugou whispered harshly in his ear after closing and locking the door.

    “W-w-well, I-I thought that m-maybe I c-could be an un-underground h-hero instead of a d-daylight one s-since I don’t have a q-quirk,” He shakily got out as Bakugou's hands crackled from his quirk.

Bakugou started laughing at him and said, “So you finally fucking realized you couldn’t be the number one hero. What a damn dream come true for me. At least you know your place now.,” He also has something else to add, which worried Midoriya even more, “Now before I tell you something, I need you to promise me that it will never leave this room, got it?

    “G-got it k-kacchan. I-It won’t l-leave my lips, e-ever.”

“Good. I wanted to tell you that I’m happy that you finally realized what I was trying to beat into your head after all these years. I’ve been trying to get you to realize that you couldn’t be the number one hero, but you can do something else. And that was being a damn underground hero , it’s the best way since you don’t have a damn quirk, but you’re smart as hell.” Midoriya was about to interject saying that he wasn’t as smart as Bakugou but he cut him off and said “Don’t even try to deny it, I know that you get better scores on the tests than me, even if the teachers make your scores lower because of you being quirkless. Hell, I bet you even started high school classes since you always seem to know the answers to questions we haven’t even learned in class yet.”

This got Midoriya out of his stupor and he realized that what Bakugou was saying was true.  And realized that he went through 5 fucking years of abuse from Kacchan and the teachers just because he didn’t have a quirk and Kacchan couldn’t bring yourself to talk to me. At least I know that he isn’t as much of a dick anymore. As Midoriya realized this, Bakugou said something that he couldn’t hear. “Sorry Kacchan, what’d you say?”

“I fucking said, that you’re still fucking useless and that I still have to be a dick to you since everyone will act fucking weird if I started being nice to you.” Kacchan huffed as he continued talking, “So don’t think that this is your free pass through middle school. I’m going to put you through a… training of sorts while I still can.”

The next day marked the start of Midoriya’s ‘training’ with Bakugou and it also marked the day where his grades and life were no longer suffering due to his quirkless status. He found his new goal, to become the Number One Underground Hero and mirror Bakugou’s Number One Hero status.

Chapter Text

“Now, I know that you all have bright futures ahead of you but it’s time to pick what highschool  you want to go to and what profession you want to be. But who am I kidding, You all want to be heroes!”  Midoriya idly listened to his teacher as he was going over his notes on underground heroes, specifically Eraserhead when Bakugou's brash voice called out, “Oi teach, don’t lump me in with all these other extras. I aced the UA mock test and plan to become the best hero to ever exist!”

“Now now everyone, you need to calm down and stop using your quirks as quirk use without a license is illegal but I do have some interesting news for everyone here,” Midoriya quickly realized what the teacher was talking about and braced for the insults that could come flying his way. “It says here that Midoriya also plans on applying to UA, not only that, but also to Shiketsu.” The class erupted into chaos after hearing this. The weak, quirkless, Deku decided he was going to apply to the top hero schools in the country? Yeah right.

“Deku? Get into UA or Shiketsu? No way, his useless ass would probably hurt another student and get arrested!” One student with extendable fingers yelled out while everyone was showing off their quirks from the earlier announcement.

“Yeah right, as if the useless fuck would get into the best schools.” another student who had wings yelled out. Meanwhile, MIdoriya was just curling in on himself from all the attention. Bakugou on the other hand, was just sitting quietly to himself, which was weird since he was always the leader of the pack when it came to yelling and berating Deku.

“Oi Bakugou, why aren’t you saying anything? You think he can actually make it in?” the guy with the wings asked, breaking the tension that was slowly enveloping the room.

“If the nerd wants to apply, then he can. It’s not like smarts will get you everywhere,” Bakugou huffed as he was getting ready to take his notes out for the next class.

“Bakugou, we all know that you’re the smartest student in this school. Even your grades reflect that, why are you supporting Deku now?” The fingers guy said.

“Because I know Deku, and I know that he’s taking some sort of highschool level class already. Don’t tell me you useless extras haven’t seen him breezing by the classes when we learn something new,” Bakugou announced. The teacher took this as his time to prevent anything that could damage Bakugou’s reputation and said “Alright class, it’s time to settle down, the Math teacher should be here any second.” This got the class to settle down and everyone got their notes out, ready to begin another grueling year.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the day and Midoriya tried to get out early but the guy with the fingers quirk and the guy with the wings stopping him and held him in class before he could get out of the door and whispered in his ear “You’re going to stay with us for a bit. We need to have a talk of sorts with you.”

Midoriya was nervous, not that he would be hurt, that happened every day, but that something worse would happen. Of course, this got him muttering about the possibilities of things that could happen, which caught the attention of the other two who were waiting for the class to empty. “Deku, stop muttering before I do something worse than Bakugou ever did,” fingers told him as he watched with a cold gaze.

“S-sorry, w-what did you g-guys want t-to talk a-about?” Midoriya asked as his mind was going a thousand miles a minute as it searched for a way out. But the next words that came out of their mouths would haunt him for years to come.

“Well, Deku. We just wanted to tell you that if you even think about applying to UA with Bakugou or even going through with applying to Shiketsu, that you should just be useful for once and save yourself some heartache by taking a nosedive off the roof and hope you get a quirk in the next life,” with that, the two left him in the classroom broken. But this wouldn’t deter him from becoming a hero. No, this would only bring him higher.

He was taking a long way home, hoping to catch some heroes out and maybe get their autographs. He had heard that two new heroes had made their debut today! And he missed it! There was no way that he was going to miss another chance at getting a new heroes autograph, especially one that he could see more often to analyze. But while he was lost in thought, he didn’t notice the sound of the manhole opening, or the sound of sludge moving across the ground until it was too late.

“Oh boy did I get lucky, a medium-sized skinsuit that will blend in with the crowds. Don’t move, this will only hurt a lot.” The sludge monster was forcing itself down his esophagus and causing him to start blacking out. He was clawing at the sludge, hoping, praying that a hero would come save him and that he would be able to become a hero. But his vision was fading when he heard the faint sound of wind pressure before he was knocked out.

He awoke sometime later from a hand slapping him repeatedly. He opened his eyes to see All Might, thank god he was save- wait… ALL MIGHT. He just had to get his autograph. Oh wait, HE ALREADY GAVE HIM ONE. This was going to be a family heirloom. Midoriya was finally brought out of the clouds when he heard All MIght asking if he was alright.

“ARE YOU ALRIGHT MY BOY? YOU WERE UNCONSCIOUS FOR A FEW MINUTES AND I WAS GOING TO CALL AN AMBULANCE IF YOU DIDN'T WAKE UP SOONER.”

“Y-Yeah.. I’m alright. Just in shock about getting your autograph. But I have a question for you before you leave.” MIdoriya said after getting his mind straight because there he was, talking to ALL MIGHT of all people.

“I’M SORRY YOUNG MAN, BUT I HAVE TO GO. THIS LITTLE GUY WON'T GET TO THE POLICE STATION BY HIMSELF.” All Might said as he patted his pocket where there was a 2-liter filled with sludge and got ready to take to the skies  when he heard the sound of shoes on concrete coming closer to him just as he jumped.

All Might was in the air when he felt that one of his legs was slightly heavier than the other and that was when he looked down and saw the young boy who he had saved clinging onto his pant leg and looked for a place to land, hoping that he had enough time left to explain thing to him.

Midoriya was berating himself, he was stupid and decided to cling to All Might’s leg just to ask him one question instead of asking him on the forums. Stupid. But now he was on a rooftop gathering what was left of his nerves after the horrifying flight when he heard a wet cough from behind him.

“Young boy, why did you grab onto my pant leg like that. It could’ve been very dangerous.” A voice asked him from inside a bunch of steam. And when the steam cleared, Midoriya saw a silky looking man standing in the place of All Might. Midoriya realized something, this was why All Might hadn’t been as active in his recent years. It was subtle, but there was a dip in the amount of time he was seen out patrolling. His mind was cut short when he heard All Might (?) clear his throat so he could actually get a word in.

“Yes, I got an injury 5 years ago and it caused me to not be able to hold my hero form for long and it started at 14 hours a day but it’s slowly dwindled to only 3. You have a good mind but I’m wondering why you aren’t freaking out that the number one hero is just an sick man who can barely stand.” All Might explained as he was sitting down to catch his breath.

“I think I’m in shock. And I assumed that something had to have gone on with you since you were slowly reducing the amount of time you were out heroing. Also, was it the fight with Toxic Chainsaw that made you like this? I remember that he was a tough fight for you. But I don’t remember this happening.” Midoriya explained as he had his notebook open, ready to write down what the number one hero had to say.

“No, that punk could barely scratch me. This fight was covered up. Imagine what the public would think if they found out about a villain that was just as stong as me. But this villain fight is known as the Shibuya explosion and it left me in critical condition for a few weeks. It wasn’t pleasant but it had to be done.” All Might finished his story about the villain fight only to notice Midoriya scribbling something down in his notebook and remembered something from earlier. “Now what was it that you wanted to ask me young man?”

“Oh, I wanted to ask you if it was possible for someone to be an underground hero without a quirk. I’ve been researching them and can’t figure anything out.” Midoriya asked as he was still writing.

“Well, with the proper training, anyone can be a hero. But underground heroics is a very gritty profession and is arguably harder than aboveground. But my answer is yes, with the proper training of course.” All Might responded after thinking for a little bit.

Midoriya burst into tears and hugged All Might saying thank you between sobs. When All Might finally got him off and asked why he was crying, he was surprised by his answer. “Everyone I know has told me that I can’t become a hero without a quirk, but you, the number one hero, just told me I can do it. It’s my dream come true.”

“Well, I’m sorry to cut this short, but I have to take the villain to the police. Please get down safely and go home. You need rest.” Adn with that statement, All Might puffed up into his hero form and was about to blast away when he asked one more thing. “What is your name, young man?”

“Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku. Thank you for believing in me.” Midoriya called out as All Might blasted off and he opened the door on the roof to go down to the ground and back home again.

It was not 20 minutes later when Midoriya heard the sounds of explosions and found himself walking toward the crowd. He really does have a knack for finding hero fights doesn’t he? He made his way to the front of the crowd and his eyes widened at what he saw. It was the sludge villain! He had escaped! He was going through his memory, trying to figure out when the villain escaped and realized that the bottle had fallen out of All Might's  pocket when he had grabbed him. He was so stupid! And that was when he heard an explosion and saw ash blonde hair and red eyes poking through the sludge. Next thing he knew, he was running towards the villain with his bag off and throwing it at his eyes while he screamed “Kacchan!”

Toshinori Yagi was watching from the crowd, hoping the heroes could handle the situation when he saw a familiar head of green hair rush through the crowd towards the villain and start scraping at the villain, hoping to get his friend out of the sludge. All Might started muttering and buffing himself up. “Pathetic. PatheTIC. PATHETIC. HOW CAN I BE THE NUMBER ONE HERO WHEN I HAD TO HAVE A CHILD ACT BEFORE I DID. DON’T WORRY CITIZENS. I AM HERE! TEXAS SHAASSSSH!” All Might punched the air and the wind pressure it blew the villain away and saved the two children. It also caused the clouds to clear away and the sun started shining. The crowd went wild at the appearance of All Might and the reporters started swarming him while the other heroes attended to Midoriya and the other kid.

Midoriya was getting helped by Kamui Woods when the hero whispered in his ear “Thank you for your help, but please don’t put yourself in danger again.” and with that, he left Midoriya with the paramedics and went over to Bakugou and told him off. “You, kid. You have a good quirk but don’t use it in public. You made it harder for us to capture the villain and get close enough to get you out. Please think before doing something like trying to fight a villain by yourself.” With that. Midoriya was cleared by the paramedics and went to walk home when Bakugou grabbed him and said “Don’t think this makes you a hero. Both of us had to get All Might to save us so don’t go getting a big head.” and left afterwards. Leaving Midoriya to walk home.

Midoriya was walking near the beach when he heard footsteps come running up to him and a voice yelling “I AM HERE!!! TO THANK YOU FOR YOU- * blech *” Steam surrounded All Might as he went down to his hero form and coughed up blood. “Sorry you had to see that, Young Midoriya. But I wanted to ask you something before you made it home. What was going through your mind when you went to save that Bakugou boy?”

“I don’t know sir, all I remember was standing in the crowd one second then being out in the open with my bag halfway off my shoulders.” Midoriya responded as he was shaking with joy of meeting All Might a second time in one day. “Your feet just moved you say? Well, I’ve decided. I want you to inherit my quirk and become my successor!” All might stated as he was standing over Midoriya who looked like he was about to break the ground below him with how fast he was moving.

“Wait. Inherit your quirk? What does that even mean? Your quirk has been the topic of discussion for years! People always suspected you had a strength enhancer but some also wondered about some transformative quirks and even mutation ones!” Midoriya continued to list the theories about All Might’s quirk when he felt a hand hit the top of his head.

“Now is not the time for theories. I need your answer. Will you accept my quirk and become my successor?” All Might asked as Midoriya was rubbing the top of his head and answered eagerly “Yes Sir! I’ll do it!”

“No hesitation. I like that. Now that I have your answer, meet me at Dagobah Beach at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. Be sure to get home safe and get plenty of rest. See you in the morning, Young Midoriya.” With that, All Might left towards his own apartment while Midoriya raced home, hoping that he would have Katsudon for dinner.

Chapter Text

Midoirya woke up to his alarm thinking ‘why am I waking up at 4:30? It’s the weekend and I don’t have school. Did I decide to start a new schedule?’ And that was when it hit him, he was supposed to meet with All Might today at Dagobah beach. He got dressed in a flash, ate a small breakfast, and left a note for his mom saying he was going on an early run. He sprinted to the beach and saw All Might in his skinny form standing next to a truck and yelled out “SENSEI!” to get his attention.

Toshinori Yagi was minding his business, waiting for Midoriya to get to the beach, he was running late, but that wasn’t an issue for the first day. And that was when he heard someone yell “SENSEI” from a ways away. The small blob got closer and Toshinori could make out the forest green hair of his successor and smiled as the young boy was coming toward him in a full sprint. Midoriya finally stopped next to his teacher (?) and caught his breath as All MIght started talking. “Young Midoriya, I hope I didn’t disrupt your schedule too much by asking you to come here so early, but you’re going to have to get used to it, because you will be coming here every morning so we can make you a proper vessel for my quirk.” Midoriya interjected with a confused voice, “Wait, I thought you said that I was worthy of being your successor. What do you mean ‘making me into a proper vessel’?”

All Might proceeded to explain to him that even though he already has a good amount of muscle on him, he still needs more to handle the amount of power that comes with One for All. Midoirya nodded in understanding as he started muttering to himself about the theoretical power he would have and then gasped as he finally figured out why he was at the beach turned dump and looked to All Might. “So you’re saying that I need to build more muscle and the way you want me to do that is by cleaning this beach? Do you have any idea how long this will take, even with me having a decent amount of muscle on me already? It’ll take months! What about practice with it? I’ll at least need a functioning quirk to take the entrance exam.” A cough from All Might stopped Midoriya from explaining even more and allowed the man to speak. “With your current build, I expect the cleaning to take 7 months, leaving us 3 for quirk training where I will be calling in my old teacher to help you out. Hopefully he goes easy on you because he made my years at UA a living hell. I pray to every god out there that he goes easy on you, I don’t want you to experience what happened to me” All Might shuddered at the last statement before continuing, “But before that, my real name is Toshinori Yagi and you will be calling me Mr. Yagi while I am in this form so that way nobody accidentally overhears us. And even further, I want to talk to your mother about this and get her filled in on absolutely everything since this affects her just as much as it affects you. That’s the real reason why I called you here this early.”

Midoriya realized what Mr. Yagi was saying and told him his address and to come around 3 as he started jogging back home.

Midoriya got one foot in the door when his mom barreled into him sobbing as she started asking him questions. “Sorry mom, I can’t hear you when your face is buried into my shirt.”

Inko extracted herself from her son's shirt and started fussing over him. “Oh, my baby! Why were you gone for so long? I know you said you were going for a run but your runs don't normally last for 2 hours. And then you weren't answering your messages. I thought I had lost you!” It was at that moment that Midoirya realized that he forgot his phone in his panic to get out the door in time. “Sorry mom, I forgot my phone here when I was leaving. I’ll be sure to bring it next time I go out early. But I have to tell you something, I met a personal trainer of sorts and he’s going to be coming by at three to make sure you  know about how he’s training me and what he’s training me in. I met him while I was on my run and he decided he wanted to help me get into UA.”

Inko burst into tears at the fact that someone was willing to train her baby boy to help him become a hero since almost nobody would want to train a quirkless kid in this part of Musutafu. “Okay, thank you for letting me know about it. I’ll be sure to get some tea ready whenever he comes around. But you need to get your homework done, even though you already started highschool courses online, you, mister, still need to do your homework from middle school so you don't fail. You don’t want to wait another year before applying to UA do you? And don’t think I didn’t notice you purposefully getting things wrong on your worksheets, and don’t even start with an excuse, I know that you can do this stuff with your eyes closed so just make it easier and do your best okay?” Inko grabbed the ladle she was using to make breakfast and waved it at Izuku menacingly in those last few sentences just to get her point across.

Getting her point, Izuku answered back as he went to grab the syllabus from Monday to see exactly what he would be doing this year and how far ahead he would need to be to stay at his current progression,  “Alright mom, I’ll be sure to get everything right this year.” and whispered under his breath as he started flipping through the syllabus, “ A small boost to my gpa couldn’t be anything bad right?” His mom responded “You better, now come over here and help me make your breakfast. I know that you haven’t eaten much today, a banana doesn’t count as much,  and you just went on a run, you need to eat.” With that, Izuku got up and took over from where she left off and had breakfast ready in the next 15 minutes.

After having breakfast, Izuku went through the syllabus and then started researching more heroes as well as the do’s and don’ts of training and before he knew it, it was approaching 3 o’clock. Which meant that All Might would be over soon. All Might. In his house . Who knew that this day would come, definitely not Izuku.

He had just started the kettle when he heard three sharp knocks from the door. He yelled to his mom that his trainer was at the door and went to the door to let him in. He opened the door, but instead of there being one person, there were three,  All Might, a short elderly man, and an animal in a suit. It took a second from Izuku to process this but he eventually got out of his stupor and invited them inside and said that tea would be ready in a little bit.

His mother walked out soon after everyone sat down and immediately asked him something, “Izuku, dear, why are there three people in the living room. I thought you said that only your trainer would be here to talk about the process.” Before he could respond, All Might started speaking. “I’m sorry Mrs. Midoriya,” “It’s Ms. Midoriya, I haven’t been Mrs. Midoriya in a long time.” “Sorry, but as I was saying, I had planned for it to be only me but I was talking with my colleagues and they told me to bring them along to help plan things better and I wasn’t able to get in contact with young Midoriya to let him know about the change.”

“It’s alright, I just wasn’t expecting this many people to be here. Izuku, I think the tea is done, please go get it please while I get introduced with the three of them.” “Yes ma’am, I’ll be back in a second.”

When Izuku got back, everyone was still in one piece so that was good. But everyone was completely still and his mom had a look of resignation on her face, so, being the good person he is, he asked what happened. “What happened while I was gone? I was only out of the room for a minute.  Also, tea, anyone?” His mom answered him first, “Well, the three in front of me decided that it would be best to wait for you to get back before introducing themselves for reasons they don’t want to tell me.” Well, that was something to hear. “Alright then, I’m here now so let’s start with the introductions.”

Yagi replied first, “Very well then, my name is Yagi Toshinori and I am the one that has decided to train Young Midoriya here.” The old man went next, stating in a rough voice “I’m Gran Tornino, I’m here to help this oaf properly teach.” The rat, bear, mouse, thing went next and his introduction was completely unexpected. “Hello! Am I a bear, rat or a mouse? Well that doesn’t matter right now since I am the principal of UA and am here to provide much needed insight on certain situations we will be talking about soon!”

The first of the two to snap out of their shock was his mother and quickly asked another question. “Toshinori-san… why is the principal of UA in my living room?” Toshinori stood up and responded “Well, he’s here because of this.” Inko watched in shock as Toshinori bulked up into his All Might form before quickly shrinking down, coughing up blood into a handkerchief. “The truth is, I am All Might and I got a very serious injury years ago that limits the amount of time I can be a hero. Now, before you ask anything, I want you to let Nezu speak for a second so he can fully explain the in’s and out’s of what this means.” Inko nodded and looked to Nezu, as if letting him know that he could start speaking. “Alright Ms. Midoriya. This secret obviously cannot get out as it would cause a national panic. But there is more to this than just that. All Might has deemed Izuku worthy of being his successor and want to pass his quirk to him once he is trained. Before you ask, All Might’s quirk is a stockpiling quirk that has been passed down between multiple heroes and has grown in strength between each user, and All Might intends to make Izuku the 9th user but the transfer of the quirk will not happen unless you give us the okay. If you do not want Izuku to get the quirk, we will prepare him as best we can and he can go into the world of underground heroics under the tutelage of one of our teachers instead of being in the limelight. Any questions or concerns involving this?” Inko sat there in shock as she was processing even more information before giving her answer. “As long as he will be safe, I am okay with you guys training him and with All MIght giving him his quirk. But only if you make sure that he stays safe and that you tell me everything you plan on doing today.”

Gran Torino’s voice cuts in after the small silence. “That’s why I’m here, I’ll be the one training him in various forms of martial arts and fighting while Yagi has him bulk up. The time management was made by Nezu, the nutritional plan and strength training by Yagi, and everything else by me. If need be, all three of us can help with the cost of everything and Nezu is even willing to teach Midoriya himself since he has found out about the unsavory conditions in his middle school. We are also planning on letting him take the recommendation exam if he wants as none of us three have used our spot for recommending students. But all of this falls onto whatever you two think is best.”

Inko looks up to Izuku, who’s nervously muttering about the plan and how it would work and shaking in excitement that he would get the opportunity to learn from Nezu himself, they meet each other's eyes, one a pleading emerald and the other an understanding forest green. It was then that Inko provides her response. “I will let you train him. But I do want weekly updates on his progress and that you tell me as soon as anything goes wrong. Other than that, I don’t think I will need financial help since I can always go back to my old job as a lawyer if the money that Izuku’s dad sends isn’t enough to cover the cost and I think it would be great if Nezu-san taught Izuku here, he’s already taking high school level classes online so I think he’s smart enough to handle himself.”

Nezu was the first to speak after Inko finished her speech. “Wonderful. Thank you for this opportunity Ms. Midoriya, I will contact you as soon as I can with all the information regarding the schedule.” Nezu started getting up and continued what he was saying, “But I think it is time we made our leave. Thank you for having us over and thank you for the tea.”

Everyone said their farewells and soon it was just Izuku and his mother in the house. Izuku was still in awe that it wasn’t just All Might in his living room, Nezu, the principal of UA , was there and willing to teach him. But his mind was cut short when his mom pulled his shirt with her quirk, pulling him along with it too. Midoriya immediately thought ‘Uh oh, this can’t be good.’ and he was exactly right in his assumption when he heard the next words that came out of her mouth..

“Now Izuku, I know I said I wouldn’t ask about school anymore but with what Gran Torino said.  I don’t think I can ignore this. And no lying, I will be able to tell if you do.” Izuku just nodded his head meekly and said “yes ma’am” while he sat down on the couch to start an hour long interrogation from his mother.

Notes:

I've been working on this chapter for a little while but it's finally here. Next chapter is going to take longer than this since I have a research paper and a band assessment coming up soon so I'm going to be focusing on that. But I hope you enjoyed the chapter and I will either see you in the comments or at my next update!

Criticism is always welcome, just don't be a dick about it.

Chapter Text

Izuku sat uncomfortably on the couch with his mom sitting across from him, her eyes demanding the truth. They sat there for another minute before Izuku couldn’t take the silence and broke. It started with innocent stuff at first, like how the teachers sometimes ignored him at the start of middle school but it slowly got even more in depth. But as the explanation went on, Inko noticed that Izuku only ever said ‘his bully’ instead of their actual names. But she doesn’t want to push too hard since she already knew that Izuku would  go into a full blown panic attack if she pressed any further than she already has. It was then that Izuku got to his first day in his 3rd year of middle school. It was just a few days ago but Inko could tell that this memory harbored a lot more pain than his other ones.

“The bell rang, class started like usual. But this time, the teacher had the high school request forms on his desk and basically told everyone that they were going to become heroes and they started showing off their quirks. Eventually, the teacher singled me out by saying that I was still aiming for UA and everyone started yelling at me. It wasn’t too long after that classes started and the day passed. The ending bell rang and everyone rushed out of the room except for 3 of my bullies and they held me back in the class, the teacher didn’t even look at us. And then th-they. They told me to ʲᵘᵐᵖ ᵒᶠᶠ ᵃ ʳᵒᵒᶠ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵖʳᵃʸ ᶠᵒʳ ᵃ ᵠᵘᶦʳᵏ ᶦⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ⁿᵉˣᵗ ˡᶦᶠᵉ.” Izuku finished the sentence in a small voice that Inko couldn’t hear, and sadly, she had to ask him to repeat it so she could hear. And when Izuku says that his mom was mad, she was mad mad. Like, death-glare level mad. She only gave out her death-glare to people who directly insulted me. And she had that glare in her eyes, looking straight at the table. It was starting to scare him. Luckily, his mom stopped her glare and looked softly towards him and started speaking, “I’m sorry that I made you go through all of that. But I am proud of you for bringing it up to me. I won’t tell anyone if you don’t want me to but I won’t hesitate to tell the police and Nezu if you come home with any more injuries that aren’t from gym. But enough of that mopey talk, come help me make katsudon and I’ll go check my email to see if Nezu sent me the schedule and everything with it.”

The Midoriya household became enveloped in a soft silence that carried throughout dinner and all the way to when they fell asleep.

It was the next morning that Inko got an email from Nezu with the schedule and some additional information. Apparently, Nezu elected to tell his most trusted staff member with the secret since he would be Izuku’s teacher when he got into UA. That’s right, whe, not if. Even if her baby failed both the recommendation and normal exams, he would still be accepted through the only academic scholarship to ever be given. Nezu requested that she didn’t tell Izuku about this since that would only cause more stress. She took a look at the schedule and found that it was incredibly in depth and even had times for Izuku to rest and do whatever he wanted while still letting him have time to do homework. Inko sent an email back thanking him and also asked him to spare Aldera for now. They would get their share of justice soon, but only after she got her law license back and Izuku was accepted into UA. With that, she went to go wake Izuku up to talk with him about the schedule, which was supposed to start tomorrow morning.

As soon as she showed him the schedule, he started muttering about it. Who would’ve guessed. It took 20 minutes to get him to stop muttering and to actually look at the rest of the stuff like the meal plan, the order he will learn martial arts, and his tutoring with Nezu.

The first day of training was hell. He woke up early, got to the beach to meet Yagi and started cleaning for a few hours, went back home to get ready for school, and then cleaning for another few hours after school. But he was feeling better than ever since he actually had people looking out for him this time around. He didn’t have to specifically look for a gym that lets quirkless people, he didn’t have to just wing everything until he got it right. He had good teachers now, if you could call Yagi a good teacher.

Wednesday came faster than Izuku thought. It wouldn’t normally be a special day but now that he was on his new schedule, it was a day to look forward to. It was the only day of the week that Nezu would be tutoring him. Which meant he was going to UA, he would be setting foot in his dream school a year before he thought he would be! Izuku still had to clean the beach in the morning but he was free from his training in the afternoon to go meet Nezu.

Izuku had just gotten to the gate, wondering how he would get in without a pass when he heard someone shout from a distance, “Hey little listener!” Holy shit, it was Present Mic! One of his favorite heroes after All Might and Eraserhead! He was interrupted by Present Mic before he could go on his muttering spree. “ Nezu told me his personal student would be showing up soon and wanted me to give you a pass, make sure to keep it in a safe place whenever you get home.. Enjoy the school!” The yellow-haired hero left after that and left Izuku to navigate the massive school by himself. He didn’t even realize what a challenge it would be since he just me the Present Mic but he quickly found out how confusing the school could be. On one floor were the support classes and the floor above it had the second year business courses? Why had Nezu designed the school this way. It made no sense. Izuku had wandered around for half an hour before he found the mahogany wood that was the principal's office. He raised his hand to knock on the door when the door opened itself and Nezu told him to come in.

The office was a lot more normal than he expected, it housed a large desk that had multiple monitors, probably for the security cameras, it also had plenty of different chairs to sit in so anyone could be comfortable. It felt like home. Nezu stood from his desk and offered him tea before his explanation would start.

“Congratulations Izuku, you are the only student to get to my office in less than an hour, and you don’t even go to this school. Marvelous. Even including the teachers, there’s only two who beat your time. But that’s due to how long they have worked here.” Nezu’s eyes gleamed with excitement. “Anyways, let’s move over to the lesson for today. I want you to take a few tests for me so I can see what level you are currently at. I believe they will take you about 3 hours to do. There’s an extra desk in the corner, please feel free to do whatever you need to be comfortable. Let me know when you finish the test and you will be done for the day.”

Izuku opened the packet and began his work. The test was easy to begin with, but it slowly got harder and harder as it started to introduce some essay questions and highschool level work. It was only after 4 hours that he felt satisfied, he could have turned it in earlier but he spent an hour looking back through to make sure he didn’t make any mistakes. It was then that Izuku realized that Principal Nezu’s guess for time had been spot on. How the supergenius guessed, he had no clue. But he was intrigued and hoped that he would teach him how to do that someday.

Izuku said his goodbye’s to Nezu and left to go home, satisfied with what he presented to Nezu and looked forward to the next special training day. Saturday, his martial arts and sparring day.

Meanwhile, back at UA, Nezu was in disbelief. This test was his Hell Test, something that could accurately figure out someone’s IQ level while also testing their academics. The fastest person to ever complete this test was Eraserhead himself, who took 5 hours, and he was tested recently. Izuku Midoriya, a child, just finished his test in 4 hours, technically 3 if you didn’t count him going back through to check his answers. Sure, Nezu had said that he should finish in 3 hours, but that was only a joke. Only people who bordered on being genius could get that time. And from his calculations, Midoriya was damn close to being. His test showed that he had an IQ of 157 points. Only 43 points shy of Nezu himself. He was going to have fun teaching this boy.

Saturday came earlier than anyone would’ve expected and Midoriya was bouncing off the walls while waiting for Gran Torino to come and pick him up from the apartment. He had only waited 15 minutes, but it had felt like years. But finally, finally , someone knocked on the door. Midoriya opened it only to immediately get drop-kicked by a yellow blur. He was recovering his breath when he heard Gran Torino’s gruff voice tell him to go outside to the car and that he’d be out in a bit, he just needed to talk to his mother for a bit.

After 15 minutes, Gran Torino came back outside and drove them to a warehouse that apparently had a gym, freerunning course, and a ring in it. Gran shot inside and told Midoirya to meet him in the ring after he got changed. The next 2 hours could only be called a slaughter. Izuku thought Gran Torino would go easy on him since he had close to zero fighting experience but no, he just had to go full throttle and make him eat the mat every time he stood up. It was only after the 2nd hour that he was able to dodge the first blow, but he was quickly brought down by another one. It was only then, that Gran Torino calls it and has him take a breather.

“Alright kid, what did you do wrong for over 2 hours.” Izuku thinks for a bit before reaching an understanding and answered. “I kept trying to wait and look for a pattern or opening instead of just relying on my instincts, no matter how small they are. I also didn’t try to move from my original spot in any way shape or form.”

“Good, you recognized your weakness. But this is it for the day, we’ll pick this up next week and instead of a one-sided beat down, it will be me teaching you the basics. I just wanted to see what you already knew. Now come on, it’s getting late and your mother wants you home by 6.”

Izuku ate dinner and then collapsed in his bed exhausted after the sparring finally caught up to him. It was then when it hit him, the first week had passed, he was finally starting to make progress. He could only imagine what he could be like in a few months. His eyes got heavy and he passed out on top of his blankets with a massive smile on his face.

Notes:

My school work has picked up even more than I thought, so I might start writing more to reduce stress but who knows. Hope you enjoyed the chapter. I plan to have a few timeskips in the next chapters to get through the Pre-UA stuff as fast as I can without leaving important details out. I'm thinking that there should be 2 or 3 chapters before the recommendation exam. And then another 1 or 2 chapters after that before I actually get to the start of UA.

Enough of releasing my plans. Criticism and theories are always welcome, please give feedback if you want to see something added to this and I'll give it some consideration. Peace!

Chapter 5: The First Term Passes

Summary:

The end of the first term makes a new age for Midoriya that has him at the top of his class, with a new teacher, and has him breaking his own records.

Notes:

Smaller chapter for this one. I think Midoriya will be getting OfA next chapter, but idk. I only have a rough outline of this shit.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Midoriya shrunk in on himself as the teacher started to call out the scores for the first term in ascending order. He didn’t want the attention that would come to him when his classmates figured out that he outscored Bakugou, the star student of Aldera. His fears worsened as the teacher paused before announcing the top five, and what came out of the teachers mouth would cause the color to drain for Midoriya’s face.

“Alright everybody, instead of just calling out the top five scorers in the class, we will have them come up to the front of the class and have them try to figure out the order they placed. So, can I have Midoriya Izuku, Bakugou Katsuki, Sato Akira, Takahashi Haruto, and Kobayashi Fuji come up to the front and order themselves from lowest to highest score, left to right.” The teacher finished his explanation and the 4 other students immediately placed themselves to the right of Midoriya, assuming that he was just barely in the top 5. Of course, Bakugou took his place on the far right and was smirking all the while.

“Now then, the predicted order is Midoriya in 5th, Takahashi in 4th, Akira in 3rd, Kobayashi in 2nd, and Bakugou in 1st. Now, everyone please move from where they were and I will call out the correct order. Starting with 5th place, Takahashi, with a score of 87%, please take your spot.” The class erupted into chaos as they learned that Midoriya was higher than 5th place, they calmed down quickly and the teacher soon called out the next name, “Kobayashi, with a score of 92%, please take your spot at 4th place.” More complaints about where Midoriya placed were shouted but were hushed quickly and the teacher continued “Akira, with a score of 95%, please take your spot in 3rd place.” At this point, the entire class was rioting at the fact that Midoriya placed this high. But then they were soon quieted as the teacher announced the next name. “For these last two, I’m going to announce their scores first, then their names. With a score of 99% for second place, and a score of 100% for first. Will Bakugou please proceed to his spot at 2nd and Midoriya to his spot at 1st.” The class was silent for a moment before it erupted into accusations of cheating or bribing the teachers to give him a 100 but it was soon squashed when Bakugou started yelling over them “QUIET DOWN YOU DAMN EXTRAS. Deku over here got fucking lucky, he probably guessed on most of the questions and got them right. Big deal, it was one exam. The next one will have me at the top.”

Classes continued as normal, but with some extra glares thrown Midoirya’s way. The bell rang for dismissal and 2 people made their way over to Midoriya to keep him in place. But the issue was, Midoriya was already out the door, getting lost in the crowd.

Izuku’s mind was going a mile a minute, he had gotten first in the finals, which was expected but still, he had barely gotten out of class before his classmates got to him, and he had just managed to sneak by the people waiting for him at the gate. Man, he would have to thank Gran Torino again for teaching him how to get out of unwanted positions.

He started to jog home so he could get changed to go to the beach when he heard the small pops of Bakugou’s quirk and instead stopped, hoping they could talk things out instead. Seeing that Izuku was stopped, Bakugou started speaking, “Oi nerd. Don’t go and get a big head just because you outplaced me by one damn point. I will catch up to you by the end of this term and I will get first place. Just to show you what you’ll be going up against. Now hurry the fuck up and go home. I don’t want to worry Auntie Inko or make you fuck up your beach cleaning bullshit. Don’t fucking ask, I already know that you’ve been cleaning the beach for strength straining. I would have too if I didn’t have my own weights.” With that heartfelt (?) goodbye, Bakugou started jogging in the direction of his house, leaving a shocked Midoriya.

The next few hours of training went by quickly, and soon, Midoriya was back in his room looking at the hero news of the day to see if anything interesting happened before going to bed for the night.

It was Saturday. Which meant it was combat training day, which also meant that he would be eating the floor for many hours. He had yet to get one hit on Gran Torino in the 4 months he had been training with him. It seemed like every time Midoriya got close to keeping up, he bumped it up another notch. Midoriya just hoped that Gran would go a little easier on him today but with how Gran Torino acted, that would not be the case. But when he got to the gym, there wasn’t anyone there. He checked his messages to make sure that he would be in the gym today but it was pitch black inside. He didn’t even hear the slight wind that came from Gran Torino’s quirk.

It was then, while Midoriya was distracted, that a figure clad in a black jumpsuit and armed with a gray scarf jumped down from the rafters with next to zero noise, went to capture Midoriya, who had just barely reacted when he heard the scarf.

Aizawa Shouta, lesser known as Eraserhead, had been surprised when Nezu had him meet with a veteran hero to talk about taking over a kid's combat training for a few months. But imagine his surprise when the kid came to the warehouse and was able to react to his movements, even if it was right before he was caught. He was even more surprised when the kid recognized him , an underground hero who takes very extensive measures to make himself unknown. Midoriya was starting to mutter about the capture weapon and Eraserhead himself when he was interrupted. “Alright kid, as you somehow know, I’m Aizaw Shouta, or Eraserhead. Gran Torino asked me to come and teach you for a few months since he didn’t want you to build any bad habits by fighting only him. So, we’re going to get in the ring and spar for a while, and only after that, will I answer your questions. Deal?” Midoriya nodded vigorously before going off to the locker room to change into his workout clothes.

When Midoriya got back, they started sparring and Midoriya quickly realized just how outclassed he was in combat. Every attack, feint, or block he tried was seen through and brutally punished by Eraserhead. After 3 hours, Midoriya had finally learned to wait for an opening after the other tried to attack, but he still wasn’t ready for the pure speed that Eraser possessed. Only after another hour did Eraser call it, hoping to let Midoriya rest and realize what he was doing wrong and where he could improve. In all of the spars he did today, he was either wrapped up in the capture scarf, pinned with his arm behind his back, or in a chokehold. But, it was the best 4 hours of his life because he just sparred with the Eraserhead.

“Alright kid, go ahead and ask your questions. I will try to answer your questions, but there are limitations to what I am legally allowed to.” With that, Midoriya got his notebook out and got ready to write as he started asking question after question. “What’s it like being an underground hero? What’s the most dangerous mission you’ve been on? What’s your capture scarf made from? Do you have any job besides being a hero?”

“It’s tiring and a lot harder than you think, I can’t tell you, It’s made from a special alloy but I can’t tell you what alloy it is, I teach at UA. In that order. And just so you know, All Might told me about his quirk and that he plans to pass it to you whenever you’re done bulking up so you don’t have to dance around it whenever you do get it. Now hurry up and go home, I’ll see you next week.”

It was on Monday that Yagi had him in a weightroom to measure how far he had gotten since he cleaned about 3 three quarters of the beach at this point. He had just finished warming up when he saw Yagi set up a deadlift for him, but this deadlift was 500 pounds even. Why Yagi used the imperial system, he had no clue. But he got chalked up, got his wraps ready, and made sure his lifting belt was secure before starting the lift. It was surprisingly easy to get it up, but then again, he had been dragging cars on the beach for months at this point, so it was to be expected. But then Yagi just had to be the bearer of bad news and told him that he was supposed to clean that weight, not deadlift. Oh boy, this was going to be a long day.

After 3 hours of figuring out new maxes and then lifting for the day, Midoriya went home exhausted, but it was a good exhausted. For the first time in a long time, he felt accomplished.

Chapter Text

It had been another three months and Midoriya had done it. After 6 months of progress, the beach was clean and was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life. The sense of accomplishment was in his body and he could not be more proud of what he had done. But now comes the next hurdle, getting and mastering One for All. So, Midoriya called All Might and told him to come to the beach.

15 minutes later, All Might was there, looking out into the sea as he had a smile plastered on his face before facing Midoriya. “Well then, you don’t know just how proud of you I am for doing this in such a short time. But you know what comes next, it’s time for you to get One for All. I prepared a smoothie that has a little bit of my blood in it so it’ll go down easier. My master used hair and let me tell you, it was not a pleasant feeling. Please contact me whenever you feel the power settle inside you, then we’ll go to UA to test it out.” After All Might was done speaking, Midoriya started to drink the smoothie and went back to looking out at the water and asking a question. “So, Yagi-sensei, what do you think will happen when I use One for All? I mean, you must have some idea of what will happen since you want me to test it at UA?” “Well, I honestly don’t know what will happen. You could use it at 100% like I was able to, or you could break your entire body. That’s why we’re doing it at UA, I don’t want anything horrible happening to you.”

“Hmm. That makes a lot of sense actually. I guess I’ll see you in a few hours. I don’t really know what I’m going to be doing for my training anymore though. I’m sure you and Nezu-sensei will figure that out though. Bye Yagi-sensei, I’ll see you in a bit.” Midoriya started to walk off before All Might interrupted him. “Make sure you tell your mother about this, I don’t want my head to be gone after this just because you didn’t tell her you got the quirk already. Now go home, get some rest. You’ve earned it.”

It was a few hours later when Midoriya felt a surge of power through him while browsing the hero forums. and it was then that he shot up and yelled to his mom that he’d be heading down to UA to start the testing and that he should be back before dinner. He hopes. The call with All Might was short, just a quick notification that the power had settled and that he was on his way to UA. It was time to test.

A 20 minute jog later and he was passing through the gates of UA, going right to Training Ground Beta to start his tests. When he arrived, there were five people, All Might, Nezu, Aizawa, Gran Torino, and, holy shit, was that Recovery Girl? Aizawa was the first one to notice him and told the others that he was here. Nezu quickly introduced him to Recovery Girl, holy shit, it’s the Recovery Girl, the same one that had been leading the medical field for decades, and then instructed him to step into the circle and just throw a punch towards the street.

He stepped into the circle, felt for the power that was inside of him, building it in his arm, and punched. The wind pressure alone was strong enough to blow everyone back a few feet and the force from the punch completely destroyed everything in front of him. And then the pain hit. His arm was shattered, and it turned a nasty shade of purple. Midoriya got one good look at it before saying “oh, look at that” before passing out.

Midoriya woke up staring at a white ceiling, strange, he could’ve sworn that he was outside at Ground Beta. I wonder what happened? And then it hit him, the punch, the wind pressure, and the shattered arm. He sat up slowly and looked at everything around him. There was All Might sitting in the chair next to the bed, Aizawa standing in the doorway, Nezu at that small table drinking tea, and Gran Torino leaning against the wall. Gran was the first to notice that he was up and instantly started telling him off.

“What the fuck were you thinking by only holding that power in your arm?! You know how loads work right? You spread the weight out over a larger area to reduce stress and the risk of breaking. You concentrated all of that raw power that is in One for All into your goddamn hand . Are you a fucking idiot? You didn’t even try to lower the output. What has all the training with me and Aizawa been doing to you. You need to learn control.” After that, colorful, speech, Gran huffed and went out to get Recovery Gril to check on him. But he wasn’t safe just yet, he had to deal with Aizawa.

“You already know what I’m gonna say kid. But were you even thinking when you did that? I know The Rat told you to punch but you didn’t even try to lower your power output. Imagine if you did that in the field, you’d be out of commission from just one move. You need to learn restraint, especially since you have more raw power than All Might. Just try to think next time.”

After getting scolded twice, Midoriya was ready to go back to sleep, but there was still his check-up and the test of his max power. So sleep could wait, and then Recovery Girl walked in, clipboard in hand.  “Alright, let’s see if you have any extra damage from you not thinking before punching, I thought you were smarter than this.” A quick checkup later, and he was free to test again, but only after a few harsh words from Recovery Girl. “If I see you in here again because you were too stupid to think before acting, I’m going to let you heal the slow way. But that’ll only be after you gain control, so after today, I will not treat One for All related injuries with my quirk unless there was good reason. Now scram.”

Back at the testing ground, Midoriya got back into the circle and started to spread as little power as he could across his body, hoping to not die. After what felt like an hour, he finally found a balance of his power, he estimated it was roughly 4% of his punch earlier, but it could be lower than his actual power. When he opened his eyes, he was greeted by green lightning covering his body and emitting a soft light. It was only after he looked to Nezu and told him that he should be good that he was given the go-ahead to punch again.

The destruction that followed wasn’t nearly as powerful as his punch earlier, but it was still enough to knock some trash cans down the street and produce some wind pressure along with it. Midoriya went back with everyone else and waiting for Nezu to say his results and observations he may have. After 5 minutes of silence, Nezu finally started talking.

“Well, that punch definitely wasn't as strong. But, by my estimate, it was roughly 4% of the power he displayed and only about 3% of what I expect to be his full power. How interesting.” Everyone else was in shock that that was only 3% of his estimated full power and that he would become the strongest person in Japan, maybe even the world. Aizawa was the first one to snap out of the schock and make his observations. “Well, while he can become extremely strong. Strength is nothing without technique and combat training. So, from now one, you will have combat training with me and Gran twice a week. But before that, you need to focus on getting that power spread out faster, fast enough that you can respond before you get hit.” Midoriya nodded in understanding, figuring that he took too long to get his power right, but turned to All Might before his train of thought could go off into who knows what.

Surprisingly, All Might was deep in thought on how he could further train his successor now that he had his power. But he got that out of his mind as he focused on what was happening now. “Well, the first things I see wrong with what you did was taking too long to power up, but that will come with time, and that you will probably have power level issues like I did when I first started out. You’re probably going to have to figure out how much power, or force from your punches, you use when you fight. As just 4% is enough to injure many people. But other than that? You just need to work on control and getting stronger, which means you can use the gym equipment that we have in the warehouse. But enough of that, congratulations my boy. You did it. You are one step closer to becoming the new Symbol.”

After everyone got their observations in, they had Midoriya do a few more tests before sending him home to rest up for the night since he had a busy week ahead of him, he had to train for the Recommendation exam that he would be taking soon. But before he worried about that, he had to tell his mother everything over dinner. He was just that much closer to getting to his goal of becoming the best he can be, The Symbol of Hope.

Notes:

Hope y'all enjoyed, sorry that the chapters have been a bit shorter, I really just want to get to the Recommendation Exam and the normal one. Midoriya was sitting in his living room, waiting to find out who his sponsor would be for the exam because all his mentors said that ‘he would have to wait and see.’ what a load of bullshit, they only wanted to get his mind off the exam itself, which wouldn’t happen. While Midoriya was tapping his foot angrily in wait for his sponsor, there were three sharp knocks at the door. This could mean two things; One, Gran Torino was his sponsor, or Two, someone was mimicking Grans knocking pattern to trick him, and the only one who could do that well enough is Aizawa. So it was between Gran Torino and Aizawa… the two harshest teachers he had ever had. yay.

Midoriya went to look through the peek-hole and only saw a glimpse of yellow, further confirming his suspicions. And when he finally opened the door, Midoriya saw a man in a long, yellow sleeping bag slurping on a jelly packet. Great, it was Aizawa sponsoring him… his second favorite hero and least favorite mentor. How the man can be both is still a mystery to Midoriya, well, not really. The man completes all of his hero work with brutal efficiency and applies that to his teaching style, which makes him the worst taskmaster of all time, but the results that are produced are evident.

“Come on, Problem Child, we have to be at UA in 30 minutes if we want to make it on time, and be in the car in a minute.” With that, Aizawa slithered? Out of the doorway and made his way down to his car. After yelling a quick ‘Goodbye’ to his mother, Midoriya raced after Aizaw because he knew the man would leave him if he didn’t get down there in less than a minute. Sure enough, the both of them were on their way to UA no later than a minute after Aizawa told him they were leaving.

The drive to UA consisted of a few minutes of small talk and many minutes of Midoriya trying to get over his anxiety about having to do well in the exam. So overall, it was uneventful, luckily.

The duo made it to UA with 5 minutes left until Nezu started announcing what the exam would consist of and they made it to the auditorium itself right as Nezu started talking.

“Am I a bear, rat, or a mouse? That’s not important as I am the principal of UA! Welcome everyone, to the recommendation exams. Only four of you will make it in today, the rest of you will have to take the standard exam in order to be placed in the hero course. Of course, some of you might be placed in different courses such as Support or Business if you show potential for that in the written exam, but enough of that, let’s get on to what this exam will consist of. There will be three sections, a written, a practical, and an interview. You will have 3 hours for the written exam, 2 hours are allocated for the practical, and each of you will have a 10 minute interview with me. Now, will you please follow an Ectoplasm clone to your testing location. You will have 3 hours to finish the test once you are given it.” Nezu stepped down from the podium after his explanation and let the students go to their own classrooms, while he went to his office to start monitoring the testing rooms to see if anyone was discreet enough to cheat on the test with a pro hero in the room.

Midoriya was placed in class 2-F for the written exam, with Snipe as the proctor, and the tests were already on the desks. When everyone was seated, Snipe told them that if he caught anyone cheating, they would be removed from school grounds and not allowed to take the normal entrance exam. Midoriya realized Snipe’s choice of, if he saw, so if someone was discreet enough, they could cheat and be completely fine, but he didn’t think anyone would try to cheat after what Snipe told them. Oh well, their loss.

The test flew by for Midoriya, he only took 30 minutes to complete the test and spent another 30 checking over his answers and making sure he didn’t have any spelling mistakes on the essay questions. Midoriya went up to Snipe to turn it in and only received what seemed like an amused look from the hero before getting told to go to the cafeteria until Nezu told them to make their way to the auditorium for the announcement of the practical.

Midoriya had only just finished his katsudon from Lunch Rush when some of the others started to fill the bare cafeteria. The first ones to get their food and sit down were a tall, raven-haired girl, another girl with purple hair, a reserved guy with bi-colored hair, a boisterous bald guy, and a guy whose head seemed like a skull. The five quickly got their food and sat down away from one another, except for one.

The purple headed girl made her way over to Midoriya and stood next to the table before asking a question. “Is this seat taken?” Midoriya, intrigued by the situation, told her that nobody was sitting there and that she was free to sit down. Before the girl started to eat, Midoriya couldn’t contain his curiosity and tried to start a conversation with her, but she beat him to it and introduced herself. “Setsuna Tokage, nice to meet ya.”

“Izuku Midoriya, nice to meet you too. Is there any reason why you decided to sit at my table instead of one of the many, open ones?”

“I wanted to know how the hell you finished that exam in an hour. I like to think that I’m smart, I’ve been the top in my school for a long time, but I took just over 2 hours to be done. How did you do it?” Before Midoriya could respond, Nezu’s voice came over the speaker. “Knight to E2.” Midoriya responded immediately. “Rook to E7, checkmate.” Nezu came over the loudspeaker once again. “Most impressive, I didn’t even see that one coming. You get 3 more hours for your research. Enjoy your lunch.”

Tokage just stared at Midoriya in shock but the silence was quickly filled with a question. “What the fuck just happened? How in the fuck do you know Nezu and how in the world did you play chess with him, the smartest being in Japan, and win.” Midoriya rubbed the back of his head sheepishly before responding. “Well… I’ve been taking private lessons with him for a while now but we only started the chess stuff recently. I think that should answer 3 of your questions.” Tokage, dumbfounded, started thinking about how smart Midoriya must be to get private lessons from Nezu himself. Her thought process was cut off by Midoriya. “It’s really not that big of a deal, my middle school teachers graded me extremely harshly, like college level harsh, because I was a late bloomer. I only got my quirk about a month ago.”  Midoriya rubbed the back of his head sheepishly after bringing up his once-quirklessness. “Holy shit dude, not only are you really smart, but you made such an impression on Eraserhead that you got registered for the recommendation exam while you were quirkless? Talk about amazing.” Midoriya was in shock that Tokage was able to recognize the pro hero but then remembered that he saw her with Midnight while he was looking around the auditorium.

The two continued to talk, exchanging stories they had from their childhoods when Nezu’s voice came over the intercom right as the last student gave his bowl back to Lunch Rush. “Attention students, please make your way to the auditorium for the announcement of your practical exam.” Tokage and Midoriya made their way to the auditorium at a leisurely pace and ended up being the last ones to make it into the room and to their seats.

Present Mic was the one to announce what the practical would be, which turned out to be a 3km race in one of the training grounds, specifically Training Ground Beta, the one that Midoriya had the most experience in. Present Mic then announced the groups and Midoriya saw himself in the first group with Shoto Todoroki, Inasa Yoarashi, and Juzo Honenuki. Three of the five that got to the cafeteria after him, but before everyone else. Tokage was placed in group 3 with Momo Yaoroyozu, rounding out the 5 that finished the test earlier than almost all the other students.

Midoriya made his way to Ground Beta after changing into his tracksuit and started stretching, hoping that he had enough time to finish his routine before everyone else got there.

He had just barely finished his stretches when his group was called up to the starting line. Midoriya immediately started analyzing his opponents based on their ready positions for the race. Todoroki seemed to get into a a variation of a runner's stance, Yoarashi was standing on the line itself, not in any stance whatsoever, and Honenuki was as close to the ground as he could get without laying down on it. Midoriya filed away this information and quickly got ready for the race to start.

30 seconds later, the buzzer sounded and everyone was off to complete the course. Midoriya was among the frontrunners with Todoroki and Yoarashi when they came across the first obstacle, a 4 story, vertical wall. Yoarashi just flew over it, Todoroki made a pillar of ice under his feet, and Honenuki swam up the wall. Midoriya, wanting to show off a little bit, bounced between two buildings that were near the wall until he was high enough, then cleared it. The race continued with Yoarashi, Todoroki, and Midoriya steadily making a large gap between the rest of the students with Honenuki catching up every once in a while.

The three front-runners made it to the last straight away and started using whatever energy they had left to get the lead after being stuck in a deadlocked tie for 1st. Todoroki produced even more ice, more violent winds surrounded Yoarashi, and Midoriya dialed it up to 8%, much to the protest of his bones. They made it past the finish line at almost the exact same time before the bot at the end started calling out the times, “Izuku Midoriya, 1st place, 10 minutes 31 second and 32 milliseconds. Inasa Yoarashi, 2nd place, time: 10 minutes 31 seconds and 67 milliseconds. Shoto Todoroki, 3rd place, time: 10 minutes 32 seconds and 3 milliseconds.” Midoriya was relieved that he managed to just barely take 1st place and let out a sigh of relief as he caught his breath, Yoarashi didn’t seem to be upset but clearly didn’t have as much energy as he did before the race, and Todoroki just scowled at the third place and stalked off. Honenuki managed to make it to the end a little bit after the first three, securing a 4th place in their group with a time of 10 minutes, 56 seconds, and 83 milliseconds.

Midoriya congratulated everyone who finished the race, no matter their position, before going to try and find Tokage before her group had to go.

He wasn’t able to find her in time, but did manage to catch her after the race and they talked about what they thought was difficult about it and what they could do to improve next time they had to run an obstacle course.

Once everyone had finished the obstacle course, Present Mic announced the top 10 times, not showing the names.

First - 10:31.031.

Second - 10:31.067.

Third 10:32.003.

Fourth - 10:56.083.

Fifth - 11:27.673.

Sixth - 11:36.852.

Seventh - 13:54.063.

Eighth - 13:56.472.

Ninth - 14:17.563.

Tenth - 14:47.235.

Midoriya was in shock that he got the top time, but quickly got excited to see that the 5 times behind him were the 5 people that he was keeping an eye on, he would be sure to let Nezu know about them in the interview.

The students made their way back to the auditorium so they could get ready for the interview with Nezu, Midoriya was called first, as he had expected and walked into the room with a confidence he hadn't felt since he first got his quirk, and told Nezu something that he hadn't expected to cross his mind that day. “Hey Nezu-sensei, I don’t want to get in on recommendation, I found 5 people who I think could do better if they got in instead of me. Besides, I’ve decided I want to try and break All Might’s legendary record of 150 points on the entrance exam.” Nezu took a moment to think before responding. “Very well Midoriya, who are the 5 you think deserve to make it in off recommendations.” Midoriya beamed before going onto an in-depth analysis of the 5 students before he was cut off by Nezu, who reminded him of the 10 minute time limit for the interview, so Midoriya tried to keep his analysis of each person short but still ran 3 minutes over the time he had for it and was penalized the 3 extra hours he was given to work of his research in the next lesson.

Midoriya walked out of the school with Aizawa feeling accomplished, he had scored 1st overall in the recommendation exam, which meant that he wasn’t behind his peers when it came to quirk usage, but that he was ahead of them.

Aizawa drove Midoriya back to his apartment and was quickly dragged into staying for dinner to celebrate Midoriya’s performance in the exam. Dinner was, of course, katsudon and the two adults listened carefully while the younger Midoriya was explaining what happened after Aizawa left.

Dinner went on for another hour before Aizawa had to leave to get ready for his patrol and the two Midoriya’s had to go to sleep. The younger of the two didn’t get to sleep right away as he got a message right before he laid his head on the pillow, it was from Tokage.

Dino-Lady: YOOOO! I GOT INNNNN!

GreenBean: Congratulations! I rejected Nezu’s offer to get in, I want to prove myself in the normal entrance exams by beating All Mights Record!

Dino-Lady: Please tell me you didn’t reject it just so I could get in.

GreenBean: No no no. That’s not what happened, I just want to prove myself, especially since I haven’t had my quirk for as long as everyone else.

Dino-Lady: Good, but I better see you in UA once the school year starts.

GreenBean: I promise that I’ll be there, might not be in the same class, but I’ll definitely make it in.

Dino-Lady: Hell yeah! But if I don’t see you at UA, I’ll eat my shoe and try to kill Nezu, but the second part probably won’t work.

GreenBean: Probably not, but I’m tired as hell and I have to wake up early tomorrow for training. I'll talk to you tomorrow, Tokage. Goodnight.

Dino-Lady: You’re going to work out the day after the UA recommendation exam? Wack. Night Broccoli Head.

GreenBean: Broccoli Head?

Dino-Lady: Your hair’s green and fluffy, Broccoli Head.

GreenBean: Alright then, Imma just gts.

Midoriya put his phone on his desk before finally laying down, he fell asleep before his head hit the pillow and had a smile plastered on his face in his sleep.

Notes:

This was a bitch to write but I did it, procrastinating my English work at the same time. yay. Idk if there will be romance, but please let me know what you would like to see if there was (Midoriya is straight in this).

Hope you enjoyed the chapter and let me know in the comments if you find any errors or anything similar.

Also, please let me know if you guys want me to slow down the progression of the story and add more detail, it might make updates a little slower but it won't be too much of an issue for me. Have a great night/day! - A_Person33

Chapter Text

All Midoriya felt for the past month was pain, and it was all because he decided to take the normal entrance exam instead of getting in on recommendation. If his ‘old’ training was an 8 on a scale of 10 then whatever he was doing now was a 23. Aizawa and Gran decided to start double teaming him for spars, so he was coming home with a lot more bruises. Nezu was now only showing him 10 seconds of a 3 minute long clip and wanting him to give analysis of his level, the fucking rat . And, of course, there was All Might, who put him through increasingly difficult stretches, a fucking marathon for a warmup,  and made him lift only 5 pounds below his PR’s. So it was safe to say that he was beyond relieved when they all gave him the 3 days before the entrance as rest days.

But those rest days had passed and it was the day of the entrance exam. Midoriya’s nerves were shot and it didn’t help that Tokage had practically threatened to kill him if he didn’t get in. But there was at least one saving grace, his mom. She had made him a full English breakfast and helped him calm his anxiety multiple times before he left the house, she even helped him make sure that he didn’t forget anything he would need in the exam. He was still nervous, don't get him wrong, but the help from his mom helped him calm his nerves enough that he wouldn’t make any careless mistakes before leaving. Anything after he left on the other hand? That was all on him. But before he could get lost in his head again,  he was gently reminded that he had to go if he didn’t want to miss the train .

The walk to the train wasn’t as bad as Midoriya had thought it would be, but the train ride to UA itself had him almost overthinking everything. He probably would have lost his mind if it wasn’t for Tokage constantly texting him with either reassurance that he would do great, threatening to strangle him if he didn’t pass, or just sending him random memes or jokes, whether they be Midoriya Appropriate or not.

Dino-Lady changed their name to The Bitchasaurus

GreenBean: What the fuck Tokage, why

The Bitchasaurus: why not? Its funny!

GreenBean: It’s not even that funny! Did you have to stick with the dinosaur theme?

The Bitchasaurus: Says the one that thinks a blue T-Shirt that says “Red Shirt” is funny. And yes, dinosaurs are amazing and will always be part of my name.

GreenBean: Oh boo-hoo, at least I have some taste in humor that isn’t just an innuendo.

The Bitchasaurus: HEY! I’m not that bad

GreenBean: Yes you are Tokage, the first meme you sent me, if you could even call it that, had the most obvious innuendo that I had to make sure that I wouldn’t accidentally show it to my mom because she would think that we were dating and I do not want to explain that to my mom.

The Bitchasaurus: Well, that wouldn’t be too bad

GreenBean: Which part Tokage

The Bitchasaurus: :)

GreenBean: WHICH PART TOKAGE

GreenBean: Y’Know what, you don’t get naming privileges anymore

GreenBean removed Setsuna Tokage’s nickname

Setsuna Tokage: HEY! That isn’t fair.

GreenBean: yes it is

Setsuna Tokage: You took my dinosaurs away, it isn’t fair

GreenBean: You don’t deserve dinosaurs right now

Setsuna Tokage: You’re a bitch

GreenBean: I know, Nezu taught me how :)

Setsuna Tokage: I could teach you how to do something

GreenBean: This is what I mean, you only do innuendo’s

Setsuna Tokage: I don’t know what you’re talking about I~zu~ku~

GreenBean:

GreenBean: Fine, I’ll give you your name back

GreenBean changed Setsuna Tokage’s name to iFuckingLoveDinosaurs

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: You’re too easy

GreenBean: Maybe you’re just too much

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Rude

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: GreenBean doesn’t fit you anymore, pick a different name

GreenBean: Why? I like this name

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: It was nice when we first started talking, it made me think you were this innocent saint, then you started being an absolute terror

GreenBean: You can blame Nezu for that

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Fuck that Rat

System: Don’t forget that I’m the one that taught Midoriya here how to access this apps servers

GreenBean: Please let me have some sense of privacy Nezu-sensei

System: Fine, but only because you’re my student

GreenBean: Thank you.

System: You should probably get up though, you at UA’s stop

GreenBean: Holy shit, the doors closed right as I stepped out. How the fuck do you do that

System: It’s a secret :)

GreenBean: Now that that’s over with, I can actually calm down

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Are we not going to comment on the fact that Nezu’s in here

GreenBean: No, he does what he wants

System: No, I do what I want

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Creepy as fuck but okay

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Wait, Nezu, can you change Midoriya’s name to something else since he won’t do it himself

System changed GreenBean’s name to ChaosIncarnateJr

ChaosIncarnateJr: Why do you do this to me sensei.

System: I’m bored, also, watch out for the brick

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: brick?

System: Give Midoriya a few seconds and he’ll respond, he’s talking to a girl right now

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Ouuu, what a player

Midoriya fucking hated Nezu, he wouldn’t say it out loud though. It was nice of him that he warned him about the train, but the fucking brick in the walkway as soon as he hit it? What the hell man.

While Midoriya was about to go into a roll, he felt his weight disappear and he wasn’t falling anymore. His confused look was apparently really obvious because he heard a voice to his right start explaining something.

“Sorry about that, it’s because of my quirk that you aren’t falling, I can make anything I touch with all 5 fingers weightless. Wouldn’t want to fall on the day of the exam would we?” The voice oriented him so that he wouldn’t fall on his face as soon as they released their quirk and then Midoriya was able to actually see who had ‘saved’ him from falling. It was a girl. A cute girl. A very cute girl with a very cool quirk.

Midoriya’s mind was going so fast that he couldn’t even mumble and he didn’t notice that the girl left to go find her testing room. He finally got out of his head a few minutes later after brainstorming how useful an anti-gravity quirk could be and looked down at his phone to see what had happened while he was thinking.

And then immediately told Tokage that he had to go and that they would talk after the exam from embarrassment of  what he read.

The written exam was ridiculously easy compared to Nezu’s tests, Midoriya was pretty sure that Nezu had him doing college level stuff at this point. But that wasn’t what was on Midoriya’s mind now, it was the practical. He made his way to the auditorium with all the other hero-hopefuls and quickly found his seat. Which was right next to Bakugou. Shit.Their relationship wasn’t nearly as bad as what it used to be but it still wasn’t the best.

As Midoriya sat down, the lights dimmed and there were spotlights trained on the stage, and then Present Mic came out and that was when Midoriya started hyperfocusing on whatever the hero would say to try and find loopholes in what he could get away with.

“Welcome all hero-hopefuls, can I get a YEAH!” Nobody responded to the voice hero and there was a rather long awkward silence afterwards. “Keeping it mellow, I understand. Well, onto the explanation, all of you were given a packet that tells you which testing site you will be going to and it contains all the information about the exam, but I will be explaining things as well.” Midoriya immediately looked to the top of his paper to see ‘Testing Ground Beta’ and also looked over at Bakugou’s to see ‘Testing Ground Alpha’ along with him looking over at his paper before Bakugou muttered something under his breath that nobody would have normally been able to hear but Aizawa had forced him to learn how to not rely on just his eyes. “So they don’t want people from the same school teaming up. Too bad I can’t crush the nerd.” When Bakugou finally noticed that Midoriya had looked at his paper he gained an offended look. “Why are you looking at my paper you damn Nerd? Too busy being relieved that you don’t have to try and go through the scraps that’ll be behind me?”

In all honesty, Midoriya was relieved that he wasn’t going to be in the same testing site as Bakugou, it would make it so he could use his quirk freely without Bakugou screaming his head off about Midoriya looking down on him. But there wasn’t much time for Bakugou to grill him further as Present Mic had started explaining each robot and their purposes. Midoriya didn’t really pay attention to that and instead focused on the packet in front of him.  Most wouldn’t bother with it because they assumed Present Mic would explain everything they needed to know, but the only things that he would say were the most important parts, such as the major rules, the estimated difficulty ranking for each robot (1-Pointer - E: 2-Pointer - D: 3-Pointer - C), and that was about it. Everything else about the exam was in the packet, like the weak points for each robot on their respective pages and how large each robot was. But all the way in the back of the packet, was something that caught Midoriya’s eye: Rescue Points and how they were earned. And the page after that had information on the 0-Pointer (Difficulty rating - A) along with how many robots of each type were in each area. Ground Beta had a sizable amount more than any other area, probably because Midoriya was in it, but he was too busy analyzing exactly where each weak point was and how he would incapacitate the 0-Pointer whenever it came.

Apparently, Midoriya had been muttering because someone from the audience asked Present Mic a question and then pointed him out. “Excuse me Present Mic, but the pamphlet clearly states that there are 4 robots and you’ve only talked about 3 of them, this is very disgraceful that UA could make such a mistake. And you, with the green hair, if you aren’t going to take this exam seriously, then please don’t dustract others around you with your muttering.”

“Thank you examinee for pointing that out! I was going to get to it in a little bit but I guess I’ll explain it now. The final robot is just meant to be a small obstacle and is worth 0-points. Try to avoid them if you can and there’s only 1 of them per testing ground. With that, I wish all of you examinees luck and I will see you all at your testing grounds before the exam starts. Go ahead and get ready for the practical.” After Present Mic explained the last robot, he let everyone loose to get changed into clothes for the practical and to eat a last minute snack.

—-----

Midoriya arrived at Ground Beta and saw that there was that uptight guy from the auditorium along with the nice girl from before the written exam already waiting with the latter trying to calm down. He went to approach her to try and help her get control of her nerves when the uptight guy with blue hair stepped in front of him. “Excuse me, as you can clearly see, that girl is trying to calm down and you shouldn’t try to sabotage other examinees.” Midoriya was shocked that the boy would think that he was trying to sabotage other people but managed to say something back. “I met that girl at the entrance to UA and she saved me from falling, I just wanted to go thank her and help her from a potential panic attack because she looks super close to actually having one of them. Please think before you accuse people of not caring or sabotaging others.” The boy didn’t even get to talk back to Midoriya when Present Mic yelled out “START!” and Midoriya was already in the training ground using 7% of One for All and completely destroyed a 1-pointer before Present Mic started speaking again. “You don’t get countdowns in  real life! That kid has that right idea! Go go go!” With that, the exam started in full.

It had only been 2 minute into the exam when Midoriya had to pull someone out of the way of a 3-pointer before they got hurt. They didn't take too kindly to him ‘stealing their points’ but it was a better alternative to them getting hit. After Midoriya made sure they were okay, he ran off again, in search of a quiet place with nobody else where he could start gathering more points.

Not even a minute later, he came across an examinee with lilac hair loudly complaining that the exam was robots, and that he couldn’t even use his quirk to get any points. Hearing this, Midoriya dropped down form the roof he was on and gave the boy some tips about the robots, like the weak points, along with giving him a piece of a broken robot the boy could use to destroy the robots easier before running off again to find more robots.

5 minutes had passed in the exam when Midoriya took a small break to mentally count how many points he had so far. He counted 48 points and there was still another 3 minutes before the 0-pointer was released, so he had time to plan before he had to take out the 0-pointer so nobody would get hurt. He also estimated that he had 15 or 20 Rescue Points from saving that one guy from a 3-pointer along with helping out that guy with the lilac hair. Midoriya couldn’t dwell on the plan or what had happened so far because he heard some of the other examinees get closer to where he was, when one of them, who sounded like that blue haired boy, yelled out his score of 35 points. That announcement of points made Midoriya kick it into high gear and he ran off on the roofs, trying to gather more points before the 0-pointer appeared.

Right when Present Mic called the 2 minute warning, Midoriya felt the ground shake as the 0-pointer was released somewhere in the arena. He had gained another 28 points in the 3 minutes before the warning and felt that he didn’t need anymore points, he could pass without getting anymore.

He started looking around for the 0-pointer, knowing how big it was and started making his way across the roofs towards where he could see its massive figure in the distance.

By the time Midoriya got there, there was only a minute and a half left and the majority of everyone was running away, with the exception of some who were trying to squeeze out some more points while the robots were distracted, but they were extremely close to the 0-pointers path and he needed to get them out of the way just in case something happened while he tried to put the thing down. Midoriya was about to yell at everyone to get out of the area when he spotted the familiar boy with lilac hair yelling at people to run away and leave the other robots because the 0-pointer was almost on top of them and they needed to get out of there. Some argued but after saying a few words, the people who argued went silent and started running away and that was when Midoriya figured out the boy’s quirk, it was some sort of brainwashing.

Midoriya recentered his focus on the 0-pointer, and as he was about to start pelting it with light attacks, he heard someone say ‘ow’ and he saw the nice girl from earlier stuck underneath sime rubble. His vision went white and he screamed towards the boy with lilac hair to come over and help him get the girl out, the boy came quickly and after getting her out, the boy, who’s name he learned as Shinso, took the girl at his assistance towards the exit while he went to fight the 0-pointer, hoping to stop it as soon as he could.

Midoriya jumped up with 12% of his power, his bones creaking at the strain, and punched the 0-pointer in the face… with all of his power… on accident... because he was stressed about not being able to beat it with what he had access to… Chiyo was going to kill him. Oh well, he could live with the cane smacks as long as everyone else was okay.

Midoriya safely landed after bounding down the broken body of the 0-pointer along with the buildings themselves and sighed in relief when Present Mic announced the end of the exam. It was only after he started to relax that he felt the pain from his broken arm and he made his way to the exit, hoping that he could catch Recovery Girl before she left to the other exam sites.

Luckily, or unluckily as Midoriya would think, Recovery Girl was already waiting at the exit with a stern look on her face after seeing him with a broken arm. All Midoriya could offer was a small smile before getting on the stretcher and passing out from exhaustion and pain.

Midoriya woke up confused, exhausted, and in the infirmary. He wondered what had happened to make him go to the infirmary when he remembered what exactly he had done and cringed at the fact that everyone in his area had seen him shatter his arm. Midoriya didn’t get too much time alone with his thoughts before Recovery Girl came into the room and immediately started scolding him about what he had done.

“Do you have any idea how reckless you were. I know that you wanted to save that girl from the 0-pointer but did you seriously have to destroy it and break your arm in the process? You could have just picked her up and ran away, you could have even carried that other person who helped you so you didn’t have to hurt yourself. Yet here you are, in the infirmary 3 hours after the exam ended, with a newly healed arm. Do better next time.” After Recovery Girl was done scolding him, she went to take the IV out along with checking him over to make sure that he was good to go home, which he was.

As he was about the leave the infirmary, he thanked Recovery Girl for healing him and started on making his way home and making sure to text Tokage that he was fine and that he was pretty sure that he had passed, but he would have to wait a week for his results.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: YOOOOOO, your exam should be over, how did you do?

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Dude, where the fuck are you. You told me that the exam shouldn’t go past 4.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Did you fucking die on me, or did you do something equally stupid

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: You probably did something stupid

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: HELLOOOOOOOO, it’s been 2 hours since you should have ended, wtf happened to you

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Y’know what, fuck it. I’ll just start making sex jokes

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: No reaction to that? really?

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: BITCH, ANSWER ME.

ChaosIncarnateJr: I’m fine, don’t worry about me. And istg, if you start making sex joke again, i will get rid of your name.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Your wouldn’t dare

ChaosIncarnateJr: Try me

System change ChaosIncarnateJr’s name to RecklessGreen

RecklessGreen: Fuck off Nezu, I can’t even change it back

System: :)

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: What did you even do?

RecklessGreen: I used too much power and broke my arm, but I saved someone doing it so idc. I also think I made it in, I’m sure I got plenty enough points for it

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: You broke your fucking arm, wtf. You told me you could potentially hurt yourself if you went over your limit but that's bad, bad.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: You better have made it in, don't forget that I said that i would kill you if you didn’t

System: Please don’t murder my student Tokage, it’s illegal and I don’t want to cover it up for you

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Fine, i’ll just make him suffer

RecklessGreen: Please don’t. But I have to go explain this to my mom, eat, then pass out. I’ll tell you when I get my letter.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Alright, night you reckless piece of garbage

RecklessGreen: I’m a shining reckless piece of garbage, get it right.

RecklessGreen: Night dinosaur otaku

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Bitch

Midoriya sighed in relief once he laid down, the day was finally over and he didn’t have to deal with the stress of the exam itself, not to mention that he could sleep now. The written and practical exam took so much energy out of him, and Recovery Girl’s quirk didn’t help either. He put his phone on the charger and fell into a deep sleep, ending the most stressful day of his life so far.

Notes:

As i said earlier, I'm back, idk how long it'll be until the next chapter, but I think its going to be a relatively short filler chapter with Tokage. That's all the hints Im giving though.

Hope you enjoyed reading as always, please leave suggestions and feedback if you have any and have a great day!

p.s. - I wrote this in like 2 hours after getting a random burst of energy

Chapter 9: The Aftermath

Summary:

The Aftermath of the Entrance Exam and something special.

Notes:

Sorry for being gone for so long, I was dealing with a bunch of school stuff and just haven't had time to make the chapters until today.

But it's back now and I hope to update a little more often now that I'll actually have time.

Enjoy the chapter!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The week following the entrance exam had Midoriya more nervous than the entrance exam itself. He knew that he had passed, he had gotten plenty of villain points and he thought that he had gotten an equal amount of rescue points but that didn’t stop him from wondering if he failed because he broke his arm. He started to overthink and criticize everything he did in the practical and was only broken out of it when his mom screamed from across the house that his letter had arrived. Midoriya quickly made his way over to see his mom clutching an envelope with UA’s insignia. The wait was finally over.

Midoriya took the envelope to his room so he could see his results alone, just in case he managed to fail. He had gotten to his desk and was now gathering the courage to open the letter, fearful of what’s inside. Taking a deep breath, he opened the envelope, and then a black disc fell out. The disc laid inactive for a few seconds but then turned out, revealing a hologram that informed him of his results.

“I AM HERE!  AS A PROJECTION! You may be wondering why I am announcing these results but the truth is, I have actually accepted a teaching position at UA for this coming year! Wait what? I have to hurry this up? There's 40 more of these I have to do??!?! Alright, I’ll get on with it.

Sorry about that Young Midoriya, I will now announce your scores. Congratulations Young Midoriya, you passed the written exam with a 100%! But, as you know, there wasn’t just the written portion, there was the practical as well! And on that you scored an amazing 76 Villain Points, which would have put you in 2nd place overall… Had that been the only thing we were looking for! There was another category of points known as Rescue Points and from your heroic actions, you received another 85 points! You would have gotten 90, but due to your reckless actions, you got docked some points. This gives you a total of 161 points! Which not only puts you as the first place examinee, but you have even beaten my own record from when I took the exam! There is a letter that accompanies this disc that contains all the information that you will need for your admission to UA.

Young Midoriya, Welcome to Your Hero Academia!”

The screen hologram went black and Midoriya burst into tears, finally realizing that he made it to his dream school and that he could finally be a hero. The commotion caused his mom to burst into the room and she thought the worst as she saw him crying and burst into tears as well. And she only cried even harder when he told her that he had made it in, and that he was going to be a hero.

After the emotional mess that was his acceptance letter, he ate dinner and went to text Setsuna that he had managed to get in.

RecklessGreen: I MADE IT IN!!!!!!

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: I fucking told you that you would

RecklessGreen: Yeah, but now this is real! I can be a hero!

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Fuck yeah you can, what class are you in, and what place did you get?

RecklessGreen: Im in 1A, and I managed to get 1st.

RecklessGreen: I  knew I scored high but I didn’t think I managed to take 1st.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: You deserve it, how far ahead of 2nd were you since I know you did some stupid shit if you took 1st place.

RecklessGreen: 84 points…

RecklessGreen: I swear I didn’t mean to take 1st place by that much, but it just happened!

RecklessGreen: I didn’t even know if my idea would’ve actually worked!

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: hot damn, you even hotter than I thought. But stfu, you got in and you deserve that 1st place.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: But now that we know you got in, we should celebrate! Let’s go to the mall and the arcade tomorrow.

RecklessGreen: Fine, but you never told me what class you got into. I should at least know if I need to be prepared for you in my class next year.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Fuck yeah, let’s meet up outside the mall in Kiyashi Ward around 11. Oh, and im in 1B, so you wont have to deal with me, sadly.

RecklessGreen: Alright, see you then. But I have to go meet up with someone rq, cya!

Midoriya had gotten a text from All Might to meet him at the beach as soon as he could so Midoriya yelled to his mom that he was going to meet with Yagi and that he’d be back later.

A quick run later and Midoriya was already digging his feet into the sand, sprinting to where Yagi was standing. He may or may not have used his quirk to get there faster but nobody needed to know.

“Welcome, Young Midoriya. I take it that you had only recently gotten your letter?” Yagi looked at Midoriya with an intrigued face as the boy was basically jumping up and down from excitement.

“YEAH! I can’t believe that I took 1st place! And that I beat your highscore! What even was it? And when the hell did you take the job at UA? Is that why you haven't answered any calls or texts in the past week?”

“Slow down there my boy, you need to give me time to actually answer the questions. First, my score on the entrance exam was a 136, and Endeavors was a 129. And, until you, we were the only 2 who had ever broken the 100 point barrier, and even then, we were among the few that broke the 70 point barrier, which you and Young Bakugou also managed to do. IAS for the UA stuff, I had originally planned to scout out my successor from the students but that changed when I found you. Now I'm going to be working there to train the next generation, and yes, I couldn't contact you per UA policies. Why and how the fuck are you floating.”

In Midoriya’s excitement, along with All Might basically calling him his son, he had unknowingly started floating, something that had both him and All Might confused.

“Uhhhhh, I don’t know! This has never happened before! Is this my quirk?” No, that can’t be, I’m quirkless. Could this be One for All? Maybe it doesn’t just stockpile power but maybe quirks too?” As Midoriya went on to mumble about the possibilities, he missed the sad look on All Might’s face as he recognized how Midoriya was floating. It was the quirk of his deceased predecessor, Float, from Nana Shimura. In All Might’s shock, he missed the multiple attempts that midoriya made to call his attention and was blindsided by Midoriya slapping him on the arm. “All Might, do you know what this could be?” All might got out of his stupor and quickly went to answer. “Yes, Young Midoriya, you are currently using the quirk of my predecessor, Float. It helped her fly and defeat villain more easily since she also had the strength enhancement like we do, just to a lower degree. But enough of that, we need to figure out exactly how this even happened. Your theory of it being One for All is the most probable but we need to delve deeper. I’ll have to call in Gran to help you actually learn to fly but that shouldn’t be an issue. We’ll pick this up and also let Aizawa know about this the next time you train with him. Get some rest young midoriya, you’ll need it for what’s coming for you once you’re in UA.”

With that confusing goodbye, All Might and Midoriya made their separate ways home to turn in for the night. If only Midoriya knew just how scared All might was whenever he started floating.

After making it home that night and explaining everything to his mom, he went to bed, wanting to get the day over with and get closer and closer to his first day at UA high. But before that, he had to deal with a few more weeks of middle school.

Midoriya made it to school the next morning with no issues, there was no verbal lashings from other students or the teachers and there wasn’t even anything he needed to clean off his desk. Bakugou was just as abrasive as he had been, but he seemed to be in a worse mood than usual. Midoriya would quickly find out why when their teacher called both him and Bakugou to go to the principal's office and that they were excused for the rest of the period. Midoriya had been expecting this and was mentally bracing himself for Bakugou’s outburst once he realized that Midoriya had been the one to take 1st place from him. The walk to the principal’s office was more tense than either would have liked and Midoriya was sweating much more than usual once they got to the door. The principal called them in once they knocked and they both sat as far away from each other as they possibly could, for completely different reasons. Midoriya only blanched even further once the principal started speaking.

“First off, I want to say congratulations to both of you for making it into UA’s hero course, I couldn’t believe it when UA emailed me saying that not only did Bakugou here make it into UA, but Midoriya did as well. And that wasn’t even the most shocking part! Not only did both of you make it in, by a miracle, you guys took first and second place in the entire thing! Again, congratulations to both of you. Bakugou, for getting the highest number of Villain points than anyone else in the exam, adn to Midoriya who broke the school record for both the written and practical exam. You two are free to go back to your classes, please hurry, you wouldn’t want to miss anything.” With that, the principal started gathering papers and shooed them out of his office and Midoriya was instantly met with questions from Bakugou.

“How the hell did you do it, nerd. I was supposed to be the only one from this school to make it in, I was the one who was supposed to take first palace, not some quirkless reject. How did you take first place from me, how did you do it, what bullshit system did you find?” Bakugou started crackling his palms as his questions went on and on, Midoriya only had one answer to that, powering up his quirk to show Bakugou that he wasn’t useless anymore, he couldn’t and wouldn’t, be pushed around and be treated like a pebble.

“This is how, Kacchan. I was a late bloomer and only got my quirk a few months ago, I’ve been practicing with it tirelessly for months, hoping to get as good as everyone else. And I was able to accomplish what I wanted. I never wanted to ake first palace from you, but it happened. And it was through Rescue Points, it was only mentioned in the packet that nobody bothered to read so I think I was the only one that knew about it. I got more than half of my points from them, but the written exam was just me, I couldn't do anything but study to prepare for that.” Bakugou was staring in disbelief at Midoriya’s quirk, still comprehending what he had just heard before he replied. “Fine then, I guess I’ll have to put you in you place once we start at UA. I refuse to trail behind a nobody that only just got their quirk.” After making his statement, Bakugou stomped off back to the classroom, giving midoriya time to breathe and power down his quirk.

The rest of the day went by normally, but the teachers had started to notably act differently around Midoriya now that they knew that he had made it into UA as the top scorer. The final bell rang and Midoriya ran home, hoping that he could just go to sleep and not have to deal with explaining anything to anybody anymore, still confused at what had happened in his dream the night before.

He had opened his eyes to find that he was completely alone in a black void, he was startled to see a woman appear out of thin air. Midoriya tried to call out, but couldn’t, finding that he didn’t have a mouth to speak out of. Before he could try and run away, the woman started speaking. “Hello there, you’re probably wondering what this is and why you’re here. It’s honestly a tough answer but the best answer that I can give is that this is One for All and that you’re here so I can explain everything going on with this quirk. First off, my name is Nana Shimura and I’m the owner of the quirk that you used earlier. I’m also Toshi’s predecessor, the 7th wielder of One for All. I don’t know why the others aren’t here but we can only assume that you haven’t unlocked enough power yet. Enough of that though. We, the vestiges in OfA, believe that we have found the order that you will be getting our quirks, which is something that nobody has done before so we’re in the dark just like you. Finding out the One for All stockpiled quirks was fun though, I’m getting off track.

Anyway, we think that since my quirk is the easiest to handle, you manifested it relatively early, but the others don’t have quirks that are as safe as mine so you’ll need to build up strength to get them. As of now, we think you’ll get quirks when you’re able to safely use 20%, 30%, 55%, and 70%. There’s 6 quirks but we think that you’ll get 2 of them at 30%, we don’t know how this works so don’t try asking. But now you just need to focus on my quirk and the strength aspect of One for All. Float does exactly what it says, it lets you float, but with the powerup that One for All gave it, I was able to fly and you will too. You’ll definitely need to learn from Sora, sorry, Gran Torino, but you should do fine. As for the strength aspect, just keep building muscle and try to meditate and slowly go up in percentage until you can’t take it. It should help your body get used to the quirk. But I think we’re out of time, I don’t know how long it will be until we’ll be able to see you again so please, tell Toshi hi for me. I think he needs it after seeing what happened to him. Be good Izuku!”

The conversation in the dream had only lasted a few minutes, but it felt like hours because of shock. Midoriya was still thinking of how to tell All Might and Gran, but that could wait for another day, all he wanted to do now was eat, research heroes, and sleep.

Notes:

Chapter 10: More Training and What's to Come

Summary:

Training, plus some more.

Notes:

Hey! Im Back! (only after a 7 month break but hey, dont judge me) there will be more notes at the end of the chapter but I hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Midoriya had just finished what he assumed was his last round of training Float for the first time and he was absolutely exhausted.

Gran had dedicated all of his combat training to training Float, which was a great thing, if it wasn’t for the absolue Hell the training he was being put through. He had to float around the room collecting white balloons while avoiding the black balloons.  It wasn’t necessarily hard training but it forced him to focus more than he thought he would have to. But the finesse required to both focus on his own speed so he didn’t disturb the black balloons around him and his positioning in the air so he could correctly dodge any surprises Gran threw at him  was a lot more than he expected.

Midoriya has zoned out while Gran talked about what had happened on his last run and he only zoned back in when the older hero told him that the number of black balloons would be increasing for not only his next and final run, but all future training sessions . Why Gran thought that increasing the number of balloons was a good idea was beyond Midoriya, he had only just barely managed to finish the ‘course’ twice out of the countless runs he did.

The next run could only be described as the second level of Hell. Instead of adding 5 or maybe 10 more black balloons to the already existing 30, Gran decided to fucking DOUBLE them. It was at this moment that Midoriya officially decided that he hated Gran’s training. What made it even worse was that Gran decided to turn off the lights in the middle of his run.

The amount of expletives that came out of Midoriya’s mouth when the lights went off would only have you assume he and Bakugo had switched bodies. Of course Gran’s only response to this was cackling like mad while speaking just a few words: “Now that’s what I’m talking about.”

It was was milliseconds after Midoriya’s dignified response of “Fuck you Gran” that he hit a balloon and popped it out of anger. Gran turned on the lights after hearing the pop and went over to Midoriya to give him his final debrief before letting him go for the day.

“You did well kid, even with double the amount of black balloons and the lights getting ‘accidentally’ shut off,” Midoriya scowled when Gran mentioned the lights. But that didn’t stop the elderly hero  from continuing his debrief. “However, you losing your cool when the lights went out as well as when you hit the balloon was no bueno. Work on your level-headedness in the future. But that’s enough for the day, go home.”

Gran finished his debrief and immediately started mumbling about taiyaki and how he wanted to grab some. Midoriya, however, was thinking about his last performance. He had done well before the lights cut off but looking back, the green boy disoriented himself when the lights did cut off that he wasn’t able to remember the general direction of where things were, even with the low light his quirk was giving off.

Deciding that he had spent too much time thinking, Midoriya shook his head free of his thoughts and set off on his jog from the warehouse back home, all the while thinking about how he was 2 days away from his first day at UA.

And boy was that idea surreal. Midoriya had spent countless days dreaming of going to the best hero school to exist in the eastern hemisphere, but here he was, less than 48 hours from stepping foot onto the legendary campus. The idea was so foreign to him that he had completely ignored the fact that he was the number 1 pick for the recommendation exam, which he then decided to reject admission from that DURING THE TEST, and instead took the standard entrance exam where he beat the score of the greatest hero to ever exist. Of course, all of this had been pointed out to him from multiple people, including said greatest hero along with the principal of UA himself. But Midoriya just couldn’t seem to grasp this idea.

All of this thought went away as soon as Midoriya went through the door of the apartment he has called home for the past 15 years. His mother smothered him in worry and hugs justas she always has when he got back from training with the grouchy old man known as Gran Torino.

After 15 minutes of calming her down stating that it was still just some more float training (hoooo boy, was it a tough thing to explain to his mom that he’d be getting 6 more quirks on top of his already powerful strength enhancer. Let’s just say that the apartment was almost flooded 3 times and his mother had gone through several liters of water), his mother had subsided and let him know that dinner was lamost ready and that it’d be Katsudon in preparation that it was after his last training session before he went to UA.

True to his mother’s word, dinner was ready not even 15 minutes after he got home and he let out a sound that would be described as a ‘food orgasm’ by Tokage. His mother hadn’t given him a second glance as this was a common occurrence from Izuku after not having her Katsudon in a while. Izuku, however, was conscious of the nouse he had just made and looked up in embarrassment, his face slowly turing red. After seeing that his mom paid him no attention, Midoriya swiftly went back to eating and thinking about his coming year at UA along with everything that came with it.

Nezu had already told Midoriya that he would be taken out of his classes every other day to keep up with his lessons, but would be given the level of work he was on in the classes he did attend rather than the normal coursework as Midoriya was soundly ahead in all classes (except for Modern Hero Art since Nezu refused to teach Midoriya ANYTHING).

Spending more time with Nezu was going to be both a blessing and a curse. Midoriya could admit that he has progressed his work faster with Nezu than any standard class or self-taught course. But, along with this came Nezu’s maddening skill to push Midoriya just thin enough to where he barely finished assignments in the allotted time. Midoriya had always been a careful person with his work, checking it over multiple times for errors once he had finished, so just barely finishing in time shoved his anxiety through the roof as he hadn’t had time to correct his errors. Nezu had assured him that there was a purpose for this, but the chimera hadn’t told the green haired teen exactly what the purpose was, so the teen was left to only guess.

Enough of Nezu and his maddening knowledge. Midoriya was more so worried on his heroics classes. He knew that All Might was joining the teaching staff, but he also Knew how bad of a teacher All Might was. Midoriya also knew just exactly who his homeroom teacher would be, and that terrified him more than his lessons with Nezu, for his homeroom teacher was none other than one Shouta Aizawa, otherwise known as Eraserhead and is notorious for expelling students if they showed zero potential. Now Midoriya knew he had more than zero potential since the man had taught him before and was impressed, but the lingering feeling of not being enough constantly encroached on Midoriya’s mind.

And finally was his classmates. Midoriya already knew that Bakugo would be placed in his class since Aizawa was always given students with inherently more destructive quirks since he could shut them down. But that wasn’t his main concern, as Midoriya has dealt with being in the same class as Bakugo for the past 11 years. The real concern was the fact that Todoroki was in his class. Even though the recommendation exams were months ago, Midoriya could still remember the empty-eyed teen glare at him with such Malice that made him feel uneasy. Mentally, Midoriya knew that nothing would actually go wrong, but he would always have that worry subconsciously.

Now that he had been properly lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice that one green haired, dinosaur loving teen had messaged him over and over again, trying to get his attention.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Yo green man

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: UA in 2 days, how does it feel?

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Ik im really nervous but also excited

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: its been 15 minutes where tf are you

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: 30 minutes now, theres no way you got caught up in ANOTHER villain attack

RecklessGreen: Nope, just got lost in thought about UA

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: Oh thank god

RecklessGreen: Anyway, im ridiculously nervous for UA. Mainly bc of who will be in my class

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: how the hell do you know who’s in your class?

RecklessGreen: Eraser is my teacher. He gets the desructive quirks. Which means I get Todoroki in my class.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs:  Todoroki? Is that the Ice Guy? And didn’t he stare daggers at you when you beat him?

RecklessGreen: That’s the one. Todoroki is Endeavors last name l, so im surprised his kid doesn’t have a fire quirk.  Still don’t know what his problem is tho

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: eh, you’ll figure it out later and you’ll be fine

RecklessGreen: Maybe

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: 100%

RecklessGreen: Again, maybe.

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: eh, i dont agree. Anyway, im tired as FUCK and am going to bed now. ttyl, Might catch you in the halls in a few days, who knows

RecklessGreen: It’s 8 fucking pm, you’re always up longer thanI am and I go to sleep at 9. No way you’re tired

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: I’m not, let’s just say that I’m in need of a little…. ~stress relief~ before I go to bed and that might last a few hours

RecklessGreen: y’know….i think that’s my cue to quickly get the fuck off my phone and go to sleep early

iFuckingLoveDinosaurs: : D

Midoriya did, in fact, try to go to sleep right after his message with Tokage, but wasn’t able to because he was overthinking about UA. Again. He decided that enough was enough and started to just pour his thought into analyzing one of the quirks Nezu had given him, and he did this until he had literally fallen asleep at his desk, only awoken when his head slammed down with a loud bang. Realizing that it was 3 in the fucking morning, Midoriya decided that tomorrow would be his one “fuck this shit” day of the month where he was free to not follow the strict regiment he had grown accustomed to in the past 11 months, and quickly flopped on his bed to drift into blissful sleep.

Notes:

As said earlier I'm back after a 7 month break. I had originally planned to keep this how it was and make a new fic. But I just couldn't leave this unfinished so I wrote this entire chapter in the span of an hour. Updates will be very sporadic as I navigate a full time job, moving, and starting college in the fall, but there will be updates.

After reading a frankly ridiculous amount of fics, I've grown more confident in my ability to portray things in writing but I will say that I'm nowhere near the level of my AO3 writing idols such as Skeleton_Of_Society (Author of Midoriya: Plus Three-Sixty-Five [Yes, I did take the balloon float training from his fic, it's just such an amazing idea]), Clouds (Author of the For Want of a Nail collection), and Zarconath (Author of Revolution in Green). They have given me plenty of inspiration for both writing as well as content and I cannot thank them enough even if they don't know who I am.

Again, hope you enjoyed and please leave some feedback since it is much appriciated!

Chapter 11: The First Day Flies By

Summary:

First day at UA, quirk test ensues, what happens?

Notes:

Woohoo, new chapter. Took me a good minute to get the beginning down, I'm still not happy with it but it's passable. Still managed to complete the chapter in about 2 hours.

Hope y'all enjoy

Chapter Text

The beginning of Izuku’s day was rather normal for how big of a milestone he would be accomplishing today. It followed his normal routine of waking up, browsing the hero forums for an hour or two, then getting out of bed to make breakfast for him and his mom before he got ready for the day. However, today was only slightly different as Izuku would be putting on a different school uniform than his traditional gakuran from Aldera. He’d be putting on the UA uniform in all of its grey and green glory.

After breakfast finished and Izuku had finished getting ready, his mom started fretting over him making sure that he had absolutely everything he could possibly need for the day.

“Are you sure you have everything? Your tissues? Your handkerchief? Did you tie your tie correctly?” Izuku blanched at that last question as he had unequivocally failed at tying his tie no matter how many times he attempted it, but he shook his head fondly at his mother as she fretted over him. After all, she was still his mother and he was making such a huge step in his academic and professional career.

With a few words to his mother about not wanting to be late on the first day of school, Izuku left the apartment, ready for whatever was thrown at him.

Midoriya was not ready for whatever was thrown at him.

Midoriya has walked through the gates of UA many times throughout the past year, including for the entrance exams themselves, but he wasn’t ready for the novelty of walking through the gates in uniform . So he stood there in front of the gates like a dumbass until the boisterous voice of  a certain friend pulled him out of his stupor.

“Yo Green. You gonna keep standing in front of the gates like a dumbass or you actually gonna walk in and get to class on time?” Tokage stood a few yards away, inside the gates of UA, looking both concerned for Midoriya and just about ready to laugh her ass off as he stared at the gates in wonder.

Midoriya quickly shook his thoughts from his head and tried to think of a snarky reply to the purple-headed menace but couldn’t and just settled for saying “My bad, got caught up in thought that I’m actually here, at UA. ” Tokage just laughed loudly at his response and then berated him saying that he deserved his spot  with all the work he had put in in the past 10 months, including rejecting a spot from the recommendation exams . This earned the purple-haired teen a glare from Midoriya as they started walking to their classes.

And then Midoriya got lost with Tokage. You’d think that the guy that had been in UA many many times over the past 10 months would know where the classes would be right? Wrong. Neezu had decided to shuffle around all of the classes (excluding the support course as you can’t really move the blast rooms) so that they were placed randomly over the school. One hallway would have 1C and 1D, while the next floor would have 3A and 3B.

Needless to say, both the teens had only just managed to get to their respective classes and sit down before the bell rang out. Well, one of them got to sit down.

Midoriya glanced around the room from the door in confusion as he waited for Aizawa. All the seats were full. He was 100% sure he was in the right class, as he could see both Todoroki and Bakugou sitting down, ignoring the world. But that didn’t change his confusion from every single seat being filled and it certainly didn’t change the weird looks he had gotten from other students in the class, specifically one from a midget with purple balls on his head. It was as Midoriya was glancing around the room that he could notice Aizawa in his Yellow Abomination(™) behind the podium, looking irritated and gesturing to him to be quiet. Midoriya understood exactly what was happening as he counted to 5 before Aizawa finally rose from where he was and started speaking.

“It took you guys over 20 seconds to quiet down, and only one of you even noticed I was in the room. This will not do,” Multiple students shivered at the look the teacher gave to the entire class before he continued to speak. “Before this drags on any longer, take these gym uniforms, get changed, and meet me on the athletic field.” There were some students that burst out in questions about if they were attending the opening ceremony and where even was the athletic field but a glare from Aizawa with his quirk active quieted them all down. “Midoriya here knows the way, just follow him. I expect all of you to be ready at the athletic field in 10 minutes. If even one of you is late, there will be consequences.” More students shivered at the statement before Aizawa leveled his gaze at Midoriya before speaking. “Midoriya. If you don’t get to the field by 5 minutes, you’re expelled.” There was even more outburst at the statement but Aizawa wasn’t having it and slithered out of the classroom while Midoriya started frantically handing out uniforms to the students and made his way to the locker rooms.

It took them a minute to get from their class to the locker rooms. It took Midoriya 3 minutes to get changed and explain to the other guys where the athletic field was before he sprinted off in that general direction. It took another 45 seconds from Midoriya to get to the athletic field at full sprint, heaving in oxygen as he asked Aizawa if he had made it in time, which his answer was a non-commital grunt, which Midoriya took as a yes and breathed a sigh of relief while waiting for the rest of his class.

5 minutes later, the rest of the class was assembled in front of Aizawa in their gym uniforms waiting for instruction, with a few taking worried glances at Midoriya as he was still breathing heavily from sprinting to the field. It was then that Aizawa started speaking.

“There’s no time to waste in heroics so today, we will be doing a Quirk Apprehension Test. It’s the standard 8 physical tests you took in middle school but this time, you can use your quirks. It’s irrational that you haven’t been able to work to your full potential on these tests. Today, we will remedy that.” Most students looked on in amazement before Aizawa continued speaking. “Bakugou, you got the highest number of villain points correct?” A proud nod came from the boy. “Good, what was your record for the ball throw in middle school?” A proud smile graced the boys face as he stated a flat 70 meters. Aizawa only nodded before speaking once more, “Great, now try it with your quirk.” That was all the teacher said as he tossed a ball to Bakugou. The boy looked down at the ball once before a viscous smile came to his faced as he screamed “DIE” when he threw the ball with a massive explosion coming from his hands.

The class looked on in wonder as Aizawa turned a phone screen to them showing the number for Bakugou’s throw. An astounding 785.3 meters. Several students started talking about how cool and amazing it is that they were able to use their quirks and as this statement left the students mouth, Midoriya cringed and a feral smile came to Aizawa’s face. “Awesome, you say… you all are aiming to be heroes after 3 years. And you think it’s all fun and games? How about this, some of you may have noticed that there were only 20 desks in the class while there's 21 of you here, I have a solution to that. The student who scores the lowest across these 8 events will be judged hopeless and will be expelled.” The entire class (excluding Midoriya), burst out about how unfair it was before a glare from their teacher silenced them all. “Enough chit-chat, let’s get these tests done.”

The first test was the 50 meter dash, there were a few outstanding performers such as Tenya Iida, who clocked in at 3.04 seconds; Bakugou, who clocked his time at 4.07 seconds; and Yuga Aoyama, who used ingeniously used his quirk to boost him to get a time of 5.15 seconds. Due to the odd number of students, Midoriya had to go by himself, just as he was about to go, Aizawa gave him a few words of encouragement. “Midoriya, before this test I have one thing to say to you. If you don’t show improvement for All of the 8 tests from what I tested a month ago, you Will  be removed from the hero course and you Will be taking all of your classes for the year with Nezu.” Midoriya turned bleach white at Aizawa’s words as his face set into an expression of grim determination before he blasted off the start line with 10% of One for All, scoring an impressive 2.78 seconds, beating out the top performer and beating his previous score by 0.2 seconds.

The tests went on, with Midoriya either massively improving his scores due to float, such as the standing long jump, or he was minimally improving due to the boost from One for All not being a cure all, such as his situation with the flexibility test where he only improved by half a centimeter. It all fell apart when it came to the Ball Throw, the 6th of the 8 tests. Midoriya was just getting done marveling at the gravity girls, Uraraka if he remembered her name correctly, score of Infinity when he was called up, and then he was subsequently called out by his teacher.

“Midoriya. Before the test, I want you to know that I know that you have been holding back. I know you have more power behind that quirk of yours. Now show me it.” Aizawa gave a subtle nod to the boy as Midoriya was busy decoding his teacher's words before he finally understood. Aizawa wants him to push past his limits, to work around his comfort zone, both as a show to the rest of the class as well as an example that nothing less than his best would be accepted on the ball throw. Another silent, judging look from Aizawa also revealed that no broken bones would be allowed. Midoriya took a deep breath before stepping into the circle, ready for whatever pain comes from what he’s about to do.

Midoriya silently thought to himself dontbreakdontbreakdontbreakdontbreak as he charged his body up to 18%, as high as he was comfortable with going considering Aizawa’s unspoken threat if he broke a bone. As Midoriya got as comfortable as he could with his bones creaking in protest at the jump in power  and threatening to snap, he took a deep breath in and out before throwing the ball as hard as he could, producing a small dust cloud around him as his arm screamed in pain.

As Midoriya recovered from the pain, Aizawa turned the phone around, thoroughly impressed at Midoriya’s willingness to almost break himself to go above and beyond, showing a score of 803.7 meters. The sigh of relief from Midoriya was almost silent in the uproar from the class, but noticed by 3 people. Aizawa, Bakugou, and a kid with purple hair that seemed to defy gravity and eyebags that rivaled their teacher. Midoriya earned a look of approval from the first, an angry glare filled with competition from the second, and a spiteful glare from the third as they moved on to the last 2 tests.

Midoriya scored highly in both of the remaining tests, those being the push-ups along with the distance run, scoring the highest in the push-ups and finishing 4th in the distance run behind Iida, Todoroki, and Yaoroyozu, and was eagerly awaiting the results along with the rest of the class. There were some, like the recommendation students, who knew that they didn’t come last and seemed relaxed as they waited for the results. While 3 other students awaited their scores in fear as they knew they did badly in the majority of the tests, those being the purple midget, the invisible girl, and the guy with eyebags that compared to Aizawa’s. Midoriya thought to himself that he really needed to learn the names of the rest of the class as Aizawa started speaking.

“Moving along, it’s time for the results. I’ll give you 10 seconds to find your names before I make my announcement.” The screen Aizawa turned on showed the following list:

1st: Izuku Midoriya

2nd: Momo Yaoyorozu

3rd: Shoto Todoroki

4th: Katsuki Bakugou

5th: Fumikage Tokoyami

6th: Tenya Iida

7th: Mezo Shouji

8th:Mashirao Ojiro

9th: Ejiro Kirishima

10th: Mina Ashido

11th: Ochako Uraraka

12th: Koji Koda

13th: Rikido Sato

14th: Tsuyu Asui

15th: Yuga Aoyama

16th: Hanta Sero

17th: Denki Kaminari

18th: Kyoka Jiro

19th: Toru Hagakure

20th: Hitoshi Shinsou

21st: Minoru Mineta

There was a beat of silence before 2 students sighed with relief while one broke down crying. All of this happened right before Aizawa’s announcement, which should be happening any second.

“Mineta, you are expelled, report to the principal's office once you get changed,” gasps filled the class as they didn’t expect someone to actually get expelled, while Midoriya was just shaking his head, noting that Mineta shouldn’t have gotten last with his scores, but it was his actions towards the rest of the class, specifically females, that landed him in that spot. Midoriya wouldn’t vocalize this though, he valued his life thank you very much. Aizawa started speaking again, bringing Midoriya’s focus back on the real world. “The rest of you, take this as a lesson. Those of you at the top, don’t think you can coast on by, I will know if you slack. For those of you at the bottom, know that you have the lowest expectations, which means you have the most room to improve. I expect all of you to improve by the final exams for this semester, where I will do this test once again. And if I find your scores lacking significant improvement, you will be expelled just like Mineta was. Now go get changed, your syllabus is on the podium. You will get your assigned desks tomorrow. Dismissed.” With that, the class left to the locker rooms to get a shower and change back into their uniforms before heading back to class.

The rest of the day swept by in a flash, being infinitely more boring as it was just the standard first day of school spiels over and over again. The only excitement was lunch when Tokage decided to drag Midoriya over to her group of friends from 1B to figure out why his class wasn’t at orientation. Other than that, lunch was a quiet affair and the rest of the day went by quicker than Midoriya thought possible. At the final bell, Midoriya raced home so he could get some semblance of rest before UA’s brutal schedule kicked in and ran him into the dirt.

Notes:

Yeah so apparently it was closer to a year break instead of a 7 month one. I had forgotten that I had taken a small break before putting out the chapter stating I was ending the fic (which i deleted). So yeah.... my bad.

Chapter 12: Time to Battle pt.

Summary:

Hero Suits and Teams

Notes:

Yeah so I've had a huge case of writers block for the past 2 months but I was finally able to sit down and write this one out. I will be starting college relatively soon so don't expect too many more updates for the year, but I will try my best.

Hope you enjoy!!

Chapter Text

Everyone in Class 1-A was nervous and excited at the same time. After going through all their normal classes for the day, it was time for their first Heroics lesson. But first, they have to see who their teacher is.

The class waited in bated breaths as the seconds ticked by, eager to see their teacher. Midoriya sat there with a barely contained smirk, already knowing who their teacher would be. After all, the teacher had been his personal trainer for the past year. It was during these thoughts that the door to the classroom slammed open, and in came the teacher.

“I AM HERE,” All Might appeared in the doorway, leaning forward and holding himself by the doorframe. “COMING THROUGH THE DOOR AS A NORMAL PERSON!” Midoriya snickered as All Might was definitely NOT coming through the door as a normal person, all the while the rest of the class was in wonder at the sight of the number one hero. Murmurs rippled across the class as they finally finished taking in the sight, with a few noticing some small details, such as  Tsuyu Asui pointing out he was wearing a retro costume as well as Yaoyorozu pointing out that Eraserhead was standing quietly behind All Might.

All Might clapped to get the students' attention before starting to speak. “All right students! Today you will be having your first provisional heroics course! And we will be starting with Battle Trials!” The class went wild at this announcement, but it only lasted a few seconds as Aizawa’s piercing glare swept across the room, before speaking a few words himself. “Keep it down you Hellions, the battle trials will be closely monitored by not only All Might but myself as well. We can and Will stop things if someone goes too far,” Aizawa leveled a well-deserved glare at Midoriya before continuing. “If we do have to stop any of the trials for reckless endangerment, you better hope the principal expels you because I will make the rest of your first year a living hell.” Aizawa leveled one last glare on the class as they all took a sharp breath in at the last statement. All Might then got the attention of the class back.

“As Young Aizawa stated, we will be watching everyone closely to make sure no injuries occur. But before we get to that, there’s one thing we have to do first before we get to the trials.” All Might paused for a second, letting the class wait just a few more moments before starting to speak. “ And that is to take your first step as heroes by getting into your Hero Costumes!” Parts of the wall to the classroom came out with cases numbered 1 to 20, the class spoke in excited whispers as All Might begane speaking again. “All of these have been made by either us or an external support company using the specifications you sent us before school started! Please grab the case with your number, make your way down to the locker rooms to get changed, then meet us at Ground Beta!” With that, All Might and Aizawa left to go to the training grounds while the students ran to grab their costume.

The locker room was all talk of how exciting the training would be while everyone complimented each other's suits. Midoriya found himself lost in thought about his suit and how perfect it was, all before getting the most praise about his costume by the other boys, specifically from Iida and Todoroki, which both took note of the practicality behind it. Midoriya’s suit consisted of 3 layers, the first layer was a compression layer that provided Midoriya a reduction in lactic acid buildup, the second layer was Midoriya’s main source of protection and consisted of slash and bullet resistant pads, while the third layer was the showy layer, which had a baggy bodysuit that was a darker green than his hair and had some black accents to it along with a red belt that had many pockets for things like gauze, snacks, and navigation equipment (Midoriya had learned the hard way to not criticize being over prepared, that lesson was beat into him by Aizawa). The last 2 things were the gloves and shoes. Midoriya had originally wanted to keep his signature red high-tops but it was vetoed by Aizawa so he specifically requested Power Loader to make his combat boots a bright red, much to the irritation of Aizawa. And lastly were his gloves, they were white compression gloves that went past his elbow that helped ease muscle soreness in longer fights. It was after Midoriya had realized he had been spacing out when he noticed the other boys’ costumes. Iida’s was a massive suit of metal armor, but seemed to leave room for him to maneuver, Bakugo’s was exactly like Midoriya remembered from when he took peeks at his diagrams with a compression tank top and baggy pants with massive grenade-like gauntlets on his forearms. Kirishima’s was cause for a little concern as the boy didn't have a shirt, while Aoyama’s was also cause for concern as his was overly flamboyant with a style of armor that didn’t particularly protect from anything, he also had a cape, which was a big no in heroics at this point. The most interesting costume of them all so far was Shinso’s, the boy had a strikingly similar costume to their homeroom teacher, just excluding the capture weapon.

Shinso had noticed Midoriya’s gaze over him and immediately sent a glare his way as a reaction before doing a double take and realizing just how similar their costumes were in functionality, which was something Underground Hero’s tended to prioritize over the looks like other people’s costumes did. It was during this that Iida ushered everyone out of the locker room and towards Ground Beta as it was getting closer and closer to the deadline set by Aizawa and almost everyone was still utterly terrified of the man.

The 20 students arrived at the entrance of Ground Beta at virtually the same time, causing a stiff nod from Aizawa in approval before he started looking over some of the costumes, specifically the girls’ one’s as the support companies tend to get a bit overzealous in their designs, preferring skin tight bodysuits over suits that actually protect. Aizawa’s concerns, while valid, were not needed as all the girls seemed to have functional costumes for the type of hero they wanted to be (which was one of the questions in the analysis part of the written exam that helped Nezu weed out some of the bad seeds). Asui had a skintight suit, which Aizawa didn’t like, but it was acceptable since she was trying to become a water-based rescue hero. MIna’s was also a slight cause for concern but she had pointed out in her hero costume request form that she would be adding padding on an as-needed basis throughout her years in the hero course (assuming she didn’t flunk out), which was enough for Aizawa. Hagakure’s costume wasn’t visible except for her gloves and boots but Aizawa knew she actually had a suit on as he personally checked her request to find her requesting a suit made with her hair so that way it was invisible with her. The two other suits that were completely fine in Aizawa’s book were from Uraraka and Yaoyorozu. Uraraka had a skintight base but covered the majority of it with baggier clothes that had plenty of pockets. Yaoyorozu, on the other hand, still had a skin tight suit, but had enough skin coverage despite how quirk-created object’s ripped through fabric. This along with her cloak was more than enough to satisfy Aizawa’s concerns. Now, it was time her turned back to the explanation All Might was giving about the situation the students would be put through.

Midoriya was absorbing as much information about the situation they were being put through. The trials would be Villains vs. Heroes with teammates drawn by lots, much to the dismay of Iida and to the approval of Aizawa, as you could almost never actively choose who your teammate would be on a raid team. The Villains had 5 minutes to prepare and hide the mock bomb somewhere in the 5 story building, while the Hero team had those 5 minutes to plan their assault. After the 5 minutes are up, the two teams have 15 minutes where the Hero team can either take out both members of the Villain Team with capture tape, or they can lay a hand on the bomb for consecutive seconds. The Villain Team could also take out their opponents using capture tape, or they could stall until time was up then they would win as that would count as the bomb going off in the middle of the city. At the mention of the win conditions, the students started yelling in outrage how it was skewed towards the Villains before Aizawa leveled a quirk-assisted glare silencing them, before explaining that Villains almost always had the upper hand if they were fortified inside. This quelled the complaints enough for All Might to get the box that held the team assignments out. The students grabbed their team assignments before the match ups were announced.

The teams were as follows:

Team A - Midoriya and Shinso

Team B - Bakugo and Uraraka

Team C - Yaoyorozu and Ojiro

Team D - Shoji and Jiro

Team E - Kirishima and Hagakure

Team F - Todoroki and Asui

Team G - Mina and Tokoyami

Team H - Kaminari and Aoyama

Team I - Iida and Koda

Team J - Sero and Sato

All Might then started pulling balls for the match ups. “The Hero team is…….. TEAM A!” Much to Midoriya’s dismay, his group would be going first. “ And the Villain Team going against them… IS TEAM F!” This caused Shinso’s face to go as white as a sheet while Midoriya had his attention focused on the other team, more specifically, Todoroki, who was sending Midoriya a fierce glare as his team went inside the building and the teachers along with the rest of the students went to the observation deck.

It was after everyone was gone did Midoriya finally turn to Shinso with a feral smile and told him 4 simple words. “I have a plan.”

Notes:

As I said in the beginning note, I will be starting college soon so there will be a noticeable slow down for updates (as if it isnt random updates already). But hope y'all enjoyed! I had originally planned to have all the battles and such in this one chapter, but I wanted a chapter out asap because it didn't feel right leaving the work for 2 months. But part 2 will feature all the battles and the aftermath of each one. Update might be in a few days, might be in a month or so, who knows.

Chapter 13: Time to Battle pt.2

Summary:

The battle trials finally commence. Some succeed, some fail.

Notes:

Yeah so that "Chapter by the end of November was a lie. My bad. School kicked my ass more than I thought it would.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

To say that Shinso was disturbed would be an understatement. First, the green haired powerhouse gave him a smile that looked disturbingly feral and told him he had a plan. Then the boy spent the next few minutes on a muttering spree, something Shinso couldn’t even understand. It was only after Shinso finally got his bearings that Midoriya asked the inevitable question.

“Okay, Shinso, what’s your quirk? Need to know for some minor things in my plan. Obviously, I have an enhancement quirk but you seem to have a mental one.” Midoriya asked with a hopeful look in his eyes, but urged for an answer after seeing the hesitance from Shinso. And finally, Shinso answered, “My quirk is Brainwashing. If someone responds to me verbally, I can control them. The brainwashing breaks if someone experiences any type of pain.” Shinso had prepared for the disgust to come from Midoriya, but what he hadn’t prepared for, was Midoriya going on a muttering spree about how good the quirk was for underground heroics and that it would be absolutely perfect for the plan.

After Shinso knocked Midoriya out of his muttering, he was finally told the plan, and it was a relatively simple one. First, Midoriya would take point due to him having a physical quirk along with him having more gear on him. Second, if they encountered Todoroki by himself, it’d be up to Shinso to take control of him and get him out of the match (Midoriya helpfully supplied that comparing Todoroki to Endeavor would almost always get a response). Third, if both Todoroki and Asui are together in the room with the bomb, it would be Midoriya vs Todoroki and Shinso vs Asui, with Shinso trying to reach the bomb. And Fourth, if everything goes to shit and Midoriya is captured early on, play hide and seek with the “Villains” and just pray you can get to the bomb.

On the Villains side, things were not going well. Asui was trying to reason with Todoroki about staying together in the room with the bomb, but he wasn’t having any of it, stating that he wanted to “end things himself” and that “he didn’t need any help.” Asui huffed at this and just let Todoroki go, hoping that he’d at least get one of them, hopefully Midoriya, as Asui knew she had no chance against that sort of power.

All Might announced the start of the match almost exactly after 10 minutes had passed.

“HERO’S, YOU MAY BEGIN YOUR ASSAULT!”

With this go-ahead, Midoriya and Shinso head into the building, unknowingly walking face first into what would be a cold awakening.

The students in the observation deck immediately let out a surprised gasp as Todoroki let loose with his quirk and turned the entirety of the first floor into the second coming of the Ice Age. “Holy shit, how the hell are any of us supposed to go against THAT!” Karminari rattled out with not-so-helpful encouragement from Mina and Kirishima. All Might gave Kaminari a pointed look, as if to say that this was his only warning for that kind of language before he responded. “ Not everyone will have the same brute force that Todoroki has. I can think of quite a few heroes that have had success with non-offensive quirks. A good example is Iida Tensei, otherwise known as Ingenium, the brother of one of your classmates here. ”

Iida blanched at the outburst of the other students when the knowledge of his brother came to light. He hadn’t been purposefully hiding it from them, but he would rather not have to deal with people trying to get his brother's autograph from him; it had happened enough in the past that Iida knew to not proclaim that Ingenium was his brother everywhere he went. The class had finally calmed down from the double-whammy of both Todoroki’s power along with finding out who Iida’s brother was when Midoriya and Shinso recovered from the move and started their counter-attack.

The reenactment of the Ice Age was not something that Midoriya had expected but he was quick enough to not get trapped by the ice and was eventually able to free Shinso. It was then that they both heard frosty footsteps coming down the hallway, a quick motion from Midoriya told Shinso to be quiet as they waited from Todoroki to round the corner.

Eventually, the ice boy did turn the corner, expecting to see both his opponents trapped in ice, but rather saw both of them standing there, perfectly fine. A small gasp escaped his mouth at this before a small amount of anger entered him. “I guess I should’ve went even harder on that opening move. I wanted to get both of you out as soon as possible, you’re only obstacles in my path.” A glint came into Todoroki’s eyes as he prepared his next attack but it only further intensified at a comment from Shinso.

“Wow, going all out on the first attack. That’s awfully similar to our dear number 2 isn’t it? I thought he would’ve thought you finesse but I guess it's like father, like son isn't it?” Shinso said with a slight smirk at Todoroki’s reaction, “I am nothing like my father. You will not compare me to that man,” before taking hold of him with his quirk, quickly instructing him to walk towards the pair of heroes slowly.

Todoroki watched as his body moved towards the other students without him telling it to. Alarmed, he tried to activate his quirk with no success only to be snapped out of the weird, out of body experience, when someone flicked him after something was wrapped around his arm. It took barely a second for him to regain his senses before All Might announced his capture over the comms, also telling him to leave the building and return to the observation deck. Todoroki moved without hesitation, fully in thought about how he lost to someone so easily.

The two heroes, on the other hand, started to move towards the stairs, hoping to capitalize on it now being a 2v1 to end the match as soon as possible.

Asui, upon hearing All Might’s announcement, just huffed in annoyance before preparing to fight both the powerhouse of Midoriya and the wild card that is Shinso. She hoped that she could run the clock out but that was wishful thinking on her part.

Midoriya and Shinso quickly cleared the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors and finally made their way up to the 5th floor to find the last member of the villain team and the bomb along with it. Midoriya had planned the entire way up, telling Shinso to dead sprint for the bomb while he took Asui’s attention, figuring that it would be best for him, the more physical of the two, to take on the fight while the other went to the bomb, just incase Midoriya wasn’t able to best Asui in the one on one.

Asui was waiting for the two of them at the end of the hallway that led to the stairs, hoping that she would at least be able to capture one of them before they either captured her or disarmed the bomb.

Upon seeing Asui, Midoriya just nodded at Shinso, non verbally telling him to continue for the bomb as soon as he got the chance to, before he raced to Asui, body sparking with green electricity, hoping to end the match asap.

After fighting Midoriya for just a few seconds, Asui decided immediately that she never wanted to be on the opposite team ever again. Every punch left bruises and he was easily quick enough to punish every opening Asui gave him. There was only one saving grace of their fight, and that was that Asui was more flexible so she was able to dodge a few of the punches, and sometimes kicks, that came her way. But she was still being pushed back from Midoriya’s strength, not being able to find a single opening in his attacks.

Eventually, Asui tried to run at her first chance, hoping to be able to catch Shinso, who had run after Midoriya delivered a brutal roundhouse kick that managed to clip her in the side and ended up sending her into the wall. But just as she was about to reach the room that held the bomb, All Might called the match. “ The bomb has been defused, the round is over. HEROES WIN!

The 3 teens made their way back to the observation deck, Asui being helped there by Midoriya who apologized profusely for going too hard on her. Eventually, they arrived and saw all of their classmates, minus Koda, Todoroki, and Bakugou, huddled near the door, trying to be the first one to congratulate Midoriya on his win and also apologize to Asui for going through what she did.

The room was in chaos for a few second before All Might called attention to him. “ Students! Now is not the time to crowd the others. You will be able to ask them about what happened later, for now, it is time for analysis of the match along with declaring the match MVP!”

The students quieted at this before Aizawa picked up where All Might left off. “All right, that's enough. There was plenty wrong with both sides, I'll make this quick and go through each person, starting with Todoroki. I don’t know what made you think you could go at this alone but you just can’t. You made multiple errors in the planning phase and completely disregarded your teammate. Then you tried to fight both Midoriya and Shinso alone, an awful decision considering Midoriya scored the highest on the quirk test and you didn’t even know what Shinso’s quirk was. Overall, you need to learn that teamwork is essential to being a hero and that you should never rush into a fight without a plan or without knowing what someone's quirk.”

After a quick acknowledgement from Todoroki, Aizawa moved on.

“Next up is Asui. Overall, you did everything you could. You could use some more combat training since Midoriya wiped the floor with you, but you could have also used hit and run tactics instead of fighting possibly the physically strongest student in a one on one. Nice work”

A small kero from Asui was enough for Aizawa to move onto his next target.

“Shinso. Where to start with you. I understand that you were following Midoriya’s plan but you could’ve ended the match as soon as you saw Asui just by using your quirk. Going for the bomb was a smart idea, but when you have the numbers advantage, use it. I expect you to be in a more active role next time we run another battle trial.”

Shinso made a noncommittal noise at the analysis before Aizawa moved on once more.

“And onto perhaps the most annoying of you all. Problem Child, I admire your planning skills but for the love of God. Don’t try to solve everything with your fists. You could’ve ended the match by using the capture tape against Asui but you were so focused on beating her in a fight. I once again reiterate the numbers advantage. You’re smart Problem Child. Use that to your advantage throughout the fight instead of at the beginning.”

Midoriya made a small noise at the criticism before All Might opened the floor to the students. “ All right, or should I say All Might, now that Aizawa’s helpful commentary is over, it's time to pick the MVP! Students, who do you think should be the MVP based on what you saw? ”

All the other students started talking at once before a glare was leveled by Aizawa, causing all the students to shut up. It was only the bravest of them that continued speaking about who the match MVP should be.

“With all due respect to everyone in the match. There is a clear cut MVP from this. Midoriya. He planned everything from the beginning of the match against Todoroki, all the way to if everything fell apart. I haven’t heard of many heroes doing that much planning besides a select few. Yes, Midoriya was a bit too headstrong in trying to beat Asui in a fight, but otherwise he was essentially perfect in this exercise.” Yaoyorozu said thoughtfully, hoping it would be sufficient for Aizawa.

Excellent analysis Young Yaoyorozu! I don’t think we need much else for this match do we? ” All Might asked the students, receiving a lot of head shakes and some calling out no. With that, he called the MVP. “ All right then. With that, I name Young Midoriya as the match MVP!

The next matches went by as a blur for everyone, none of them were remotely as exciting as the first one.

Bakugou and Uraraka decimated Kaminari and Aoyama, with Bakugou taking advantage of the ability to be weightless, single handedly taking out the hero team. Bakugou was unanimously named the match MVP.

Ojiro and Yaoyorozu versus Sato and Sero was a little more interesting, with Momo making the door to the bomb room essentially untouchable, but Sato broke through the wall instead. But it ended up in a villain team win as Ojiro managed to take Sato down pretty easily due to having martial arts training and Sero quickly fell to the combined might of both members of the villain team. Ojiro won MVP, barely beating out Yaoyorozu for the spot.

Hagakure and Kirishima against Jiro and Shoji could only be described as a disaster. Magakure tried to ambush the two heroes but failed miserably since they both had advanced hearing. The two then moved onto the bomb room, where Kirishima put up a tough fight, he even took out Shoji by throwing himself as the six-armed boy, but was swiftly stunned by Jiro long enough to let her touch the bomb. Despite losing, Kirishima won MVP for him almost winning against the two heroes.

The next match was also a big disaster. The villain team, consisting of Mina and Tokoyami, had a good plan with Mina covering the windows and therefore making Dark Shadow stronger. BUt they didn’t really need the plan as the hero team, consisting of Iida and Koda, fell quickly to Dark Shadow since Iida was too strict and ended up monologuing as soon as he found the bomb. And Koda surrendered soon after as he isn’t all that good at hand to hand, especially against 3 opponents, counting Dark Shadow. Aizawa had some choice words for the younger brother of Ingenium but overall, Tokoyami was declared the MVP.

The class was definitely feeling the aftereffects of the battle trials, all of them slowly making their way to the train station to go home for the day. But there were few who weren’t too affected by everything but were also eager to go home and rest for the day. Overall, everyone in the class came out knowing they needed to improve but there was one specific student who had a knot in their stomach, feeling like something big was coming up.

Notes:

Hope y'all enjoyed the new chapter. Im trying to get a more consistent update schedule but classses, plus work, plus finals didn't help. I hope I'll be able to get another chapter out soon but I've said that before and it turned into a 7 month hiatus :/

Anyway, there's big things coming, not until after the sports festival, but there are going to be some shockers coming.

Sorry if the chapter felt like it had some repetitive moments, I just wanted to get done with it so I could get into some of the more fun parts

Chapter 14: Something Big is Coming

Summary:

Class Reps, a break in, and what comes next

Notes:

well hello there, im back with another chapter after 6 months of procrastination and writers block

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The start of the day after the battle trials was a slow one for many. The adrenaline and excitement from the day before were gone and they were back to their regularly scheduled classes. At least, that’s what the students in class 1-A thought until their teacher decided to open the day with a rather grim expression.

“Today is a day that will change your lives forever,” Aizawa stated as the entire class shook from his expression. “You will be choosing class representatives.”

The class collectively sighed in relief as there wasn’t a world ending threat or anything, but rather just a normal school activity. Everyone started talking over each other after Aizawa explained that he didn’t care how the decision was made, just that it was done by the end of homeroom. It was then that Iida decided to interject.

“Everyone! We need to act in a civilized manner! This is a very important decision for a very important position! I propose we hold a vote for this!” Iida was chopping his arm in the air as the class listened to him, with one adding onto his suggestion. “It’s a great suggestion, but I think we should add some form of nominations with seconding so that way people won’t vote for themselves.” Yaoyorozu added on as the class stared at the two of them, waiting for another suggestion but none came.

“Alright, I guess that means we start with the nominations. I’ll go first,” Shinso said dryly as he added on his nomination. “I nominate Midoriya, he was level-headed during the battle trials and was the top scorer in both the written and practical entrance exams.” Midoriya turned red and looked away at the nominations but not before Jiro seconded his nomination quicker than lightning.

Midoriya then nominated Yaoyorozu in turn, which was seconded by Ojiro. This caused her to turn a light shade of red and thank the two of them.

IIda and Tsu (as she told everyone to call her, even the teachers) were then nominated and seconded. A few others were nominated but none were seconded and the vote was to commence. Yaoyorozu made ballots and a ballot box with special ballots for the nominees so that they couldn't vote for themselves. The class had someone who wasn’t nominated count the votes, in this case it was Shinso. And write the results on the white board in descending order.

Midoriya - 12

Yaoyorozu - 4

Iida - 3

Tsu - 1

Midoriya nearly fainted, his name was at the top of the list for class rep and it wasn’t really a close race. He himself had voted for Tsuyu since she seemed like the best candidate but he couldn’t think of 12 people that would vote for him.

As Midoriya was having his inner meltdown, Yaoyorozu looked happy, Iida looked disappointed, and Tsu had a flat expression. All of this was soon washed away as Aizawa called for the class’s attention. “Well, that’s over with. Midoriya is your rep, and Yaoyorozu is the vice. Get back to your seats and get ready for English with Mic, he should be getting here soon.” It was milliseconds after he finished that Mic’s loud voice sounded just out of the door.

The first half of classes flew by for Midoriya and lunch was soon there. He got what he did every day, a chicken and rice bowl with low-calorie sauces due to his diet. Of course, his chicken and rice wasn’t bland like many others who had his regime, but rather extremely tasteful as Lunch Rush worked his magic. Midoriya was still in shock by his nomination and subsequent election, but he couldn’t dwell on it as Tokage called him to ‘their’ table, which had her plus the rest of his group, consisting of Iida, Shinso, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu.

Tokage kicked off the conversation with a question Midoriya knew was coming. “Assuming we’re on the same schedule, who ended up getting class rep for y’all?” Yoayorozu managed to beat Midoriya to the punch on responding. “It appears we are on the same schedule but Midoriya ended up getting class rep while I got vice rep. Did you end up getting class rep Togake?”

Aforementioned girl huffed before she explained what happened, “I just barely lost the position to one of my friends from middle school, but I did manage to steal the vice rep position. And this is just great for me since I can torment my green bean over here during the meetings throughout the year.” Tokage said that last part with a small smirk as she stared directly at Midoriya, who just shifted uncomfortably under her gaze before Iida cut in, “The class rep position is sacred at UA and you should not take it lightly! You should be diligent in your duties to do your class proud!” Everyone just looked at Iida in exasperation before acknowledging him and then getting back to normal and asking about everyone’s past to try and know eachother better.

Uraraka was in the middle of explaining her past and why she wanted to be a hero when the school alarms blared with “LEVEL 3 SECURITY HAS BEEN BROKEN. STUDENTS, PLEASE EVACUATE IN AN ORDERLY FASHION .” All the students in the cafeteria jumped up and sprinted to the door, pushing anyone and everyone out of their way. Midoriya and his group had jumped up too, but they hadn’t moved towards the door and just looked to the green haired teen, waiting for him to tell them what to do.

Midoriya had no idea what to do, he had the security levels drilled into his brain by Nezu but he was stuck in his brain trying to make a plan when he heard a few of his other classmates shout over the commotion that they were being crushed and that it was just the press. That shook him out of his stupor and then he looked over at his friends with a plan in his mind.

“Alright guys, I heard over the commotion that it was just the press, so Yaoyorozu, I need you to make a megaphone for me and I need you, Tokage, to take the megaphone with your head to the top of the doorway and yell at everyone to calm down after I do something to make a loud noise so they calm down,” Midoriya looked at the two people in question as he explained before asking the final question. “Everyone good with that?” they nodded and he got to work. “Good, you two get ready and take your chance while I figure out what to do.”

Lunch Rush would look back on this and tell all the teachers to never let Midoriya handle situations like this again as the boy had took a chunk out of two non-load bearing columns and smacked them together with his quirk, making an impossibly loud noise that quieted the students that were previously clamoring about getting out of the lunch room before one of the other students yelled at them to calm down and that it was just the press.

Midoriya had, of course, apologized to both Lunch Rush and Cementoss for the damage, but he looked proud at his actions.

Aizawa’s headache from his class had just grown tenfold because of the actions of the Problem Child. Yes, it was an effective way of getting everyone quiet, but he didn’t need to rip half of two columns out of the ground. And his headache was only getting worse since Nezu had called a staff meeting after sending the students home early after the break in. Dealing with The Rat had always been headache inducing.

“Alright, I’m sure you all know why we’re here. I tried to look over the security cameras to see what went wrong but all I saw was the wall being there one second but gone the next as reporters flooded in. Aizawa, you were there getting the press out of the campus, did you see anything out of the ordinary?” Nezu said with a gleam in his eyes as he addressed the teachers.

“I didn’t get to see who took the wall down but I did see the wall just rust away like it was nothing in less than a second as I was making my rounds of the campus. I take it that no reporter has a quirk like that on file?” Aizawa stated as he shifted ever so slightly under the Demon Rat’s stare before Nezu responded. “None that I’m aware of, would anyone know why there would specifically be a break in this year compared to any of our other ones?”

Present Mic responded almost immediately, “It has to be because of All Might doesn’t it? Maybe the reporters are going after him for an interview? But I don’t see why they would break down the security barriers to get to him.” Nezu hummed in response and started thinking.

“Maybe it was a distraction,” Midnight offered. “Someone might’ve caused a disruption at the front gate so they could sneak in and get something, but I don’t know any villain or criminal ballsy enough to try that besides Gentle Criminal, but he has an elasticity quirk. Nothing that could break down the barrier.”

Nezu hummed as he thought over Midnight’s words, something like that was possible, but he hadn't the slightest clue on who would do this or why it would happen, especially this year since they now had All Might on staff, whose presence makes crime all but disappear.

A few more minutes of thought later and it finally hit Nezu.

Aizawa shifted uncomfortably as a harsher gleam appeared in Nezu’s eyes right before he spoke, and what the principal told him made him slightly worried.

“All right, I think I have an idea on why this happened and what’s to come next. The press were obviously a distraction for someone to sneak in but the only way that would be possible without tripping the level 4 alarms would be with a warper,” everyone in the conference room went pale and shuddered at the thought of having a warper go against them. “And judging by everyone’s reactions, you can see how bad this could be.”

“With the possibility of there being a warper in the midst, there can only be one target if this was a declaration of war, that being the USJ trip class 1-A is going on next week. But, the infiltrator would have had to get into the teacher’s lounge and access the class schedule to find this out.” Nezu locked eyes with both Aizawa and All Might before speaking again. “Between Aizawa and All Might, I want you to raise your hand if you had a physical copy of the schedule despite having an electronic copy on the schools network, which is coded by me by the way so there should be no concerns with its safety.”

All Might sheepishly raised his hand, much to the concern of everyone in the room, before Nezu started speaking once again.

“Thank you for the honesty, Toshinori, but I unfortunately don't have cameras in the teachers lounge out of respect for your privacy. We can’t call off the trip based on a hunch but we can certainly bring back up to assist just in case. So please, give me some suggestions on how we should go about this.” Nezu finished before opening the room to any and all suggestions.

Aizawa just rolled his eyes as he knew that Nezu had already thought of a solution for this, but he still threw out his suggestion anyways. “How about we have The Big Three join the first years at the USJ? All 3 of them can rival the power of pretty much any teacher here and are basically pro’s in their own right, plus it gives me, All Might, and Thirteen a small break as they can oversee some of the rescue training if there isn’t an attack. That, and we can show those who think they’re ‘top dog’ that there are echelons of power above them.” Aizawa finished his suggestion with a light sigh as The Rat started cackling.

“Why of course that would be an acceptable solution, I will go ahead and contact them about this but leave out the thing about the possible attack. We all know Hado and how she can unintentionally tell the entire school about a secret.”

With that, the meeting was over and Aizawa had to meet with All Might and Thirteen about completely redoing the lesson plan now that they had 3 more chaperones, but that was something that could be done over the 4 days they had before the students were back in school. For now, he was looking forward to passing out on his bed for the night since he didn’t have patrol today.

Notes:

Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, I was hoping to add more to it but it just felt right to end after the staff meeting.

Anyways, Sorry for being gone so long, I had a LOT happen to me in the past 6 months. I dropped out of college, I moved 6 hours away, started working 70 hours a week, got kicked out, and a bunch more.

I should have a clear-ish schedule for the next few months but I am in no way promising more chapters as I have no clue when my gremlin brain will have me work on this again.

But please, leave any suggestions or theories you have in the comments and I'll be sure to try and get back to you guys. The feedback is helping me feel more confident about writing more than you guys know.

With that, I leave you until next time.

Chapter 15: The Fated Announcement (not a chapter)

Summary:

Announcement.

Chapter Text

I'm sure you guys can guess what this announcement is, and I apologize for it.

Sadly, I am retiring from writing for a while, which means this work is being abandoned. But on the bright side, at least you guys got a bit out of me and had some parts of what would've been a good story.

The first paragraph of ch.15 still hasn't been completed even after 5-6 months of deliberating....

The reason for me retiring is that I think I ended up being way too ambitious with my first story and ended up burning myself out. But hey, we live and we learn. There's also been a LOT of things happening in my personal life. As said in last chapters notes, I made the decision to drop out of college, moved to a different state, started running myself ragged with work, ended up getting kicked out of where I was staying so I moved to another state AGAIN, bounced around jobs, and now I'm deep in the process of joining the Air Force. I'm actually shipping out to basic in January. But that's all that happened to me and are really the main causes for me retiring.

But there is a possibility of me returning to writing at a later date, I won't say that it's a definite chance or even probable, but there's a chance. It could be after I finish Basic, it could be a year or two down the line, or it could be never. But even if I return to writing, there probably won't be as big of a project as this one is (or maybe not, who knows. I did have another Large fic in the works while writing this one).

Overall though, I'm glad that I started writing and that I got some of my work out there. While definitely not fully polished, it's something I'm proud of and sad to see no longer be worked on but I just don't have the motivation to keep writing for now.

If anyone would like to see this story through on their own, I would gladly gift this to you along with the outline.

That's that everyone, I hope you enjoyed what little story I had and I might see you guys at a later date.

Ciao
