Summary
Two years have passed since Dana Scully walked out of the home she shared with Mulder.
Six months have passed since Stella Gibson's investigation in Belfast concluded.Scully, a Fulbright Scholar, has arrived in London for a year to investigate what makes for productive relationships between forensics / medical branches within police departments; trying to capture and understand more clearly the energy and verve she once shared with Mulder. Her investigation into what makes for a good working partnership in the criminal field puts her in the hands of Stella Gibson; freshly returned to field work and investigating a string of femicide throughout London.
Together they begin piecing together a complex series of murders...and maybe a whole lot more.

Something is going on with his partner, despite her refusal to share.
Her distance didn’t feel personal, or specific to him; although he felt it acutely. There was a hardness that had settled into her since the night on the couch that she seemed unable to remove from her face. A reticence was polluting her. During her cancer, he had watched Scully transfigure into a sack of bones with a very thinly stretched dermis. A marble sculpture; all pale, chiseled, unyielding. She had collected weight, gathered flesh to her bones again. Yet, in these weeks of distance, he saw something hollow returning to her. Her cheeks lost their flush, their rosy fullness. He missed her. -
