Summary
Jiang Cheng was struck by a deadly curse when they were young during a night hunt. The curse mark would grow until the time it would inevitably claim his life, and there was no cure.
Believing he owed everything to the Jiang Clan, Wei Wuxian, at the age of thirteen, learned how to perform a curse transfer, successfully transferring the curse to himself.
As a result of this sacrifice, Madam Yu was grateful and accepted Wei Wuxian as one of her children.
Wei Wuxian was content and prepared for the day when the curse would take its toll, ready to face death. However, everything changed when he met Lan Wangji.

Lan Wangji rushed his legs forwards, uncaring of the fresh wounds littered all over his back despite it causing him to uncharacteristically trip over his foot repeatedly. The wounds, not having healed yet since it had only been imprinted on him for not even an hour ago, ached in a way that would cripple anyone to their knees.
