Summary
(Book One of the Contrivance series.) Near future America. A government lottery chooses one household from each state to participate in Contrivance each year. Those chosen are put into an elaborate, televised simulation of an apocalyptic scenario, until one household remains. But this isn't about them. This is barely about Contrivance at all.
The producers of Contrivance, the Devisers, live haunted by their annual creation and have no one but each other. Monsters? Or genius misfits looking for a challenge?
When Contrivance dissidents take the Devisers hostage, secrets come out amongst the tight knit group. The young Lead Deviser, Lavender, revisits her dark past as the former Lead Deviser's apprentice, all she did to get where she is. Her aging mentor, Malka, struggles in her role as a Deviser, her former apprentice's subordinate. As they face the fallout of their secrets revealed long after the hostage situation and interrogation, they push themselves further than ever to prepare for the worst case scenarios. But their power games have always been complex, and one can only play interrogator for so long before real questions come to light.

Francisco was very good at being awake.
(...) This was how the others would find him when, very frequently, there would come a knock on his door.
Some nights, it was Lavender. More often than either of them would like to admit, it was Lavender.

Summary
(Book Two of the Contrivance series.) Reeling from recent events, Lavender sets out to prove that Contrivance, the annual death game, and its Devisers, still have a hopeful future. Among preparing for new potential threats and filling in pieces that are now missing, she takes on a young apprentice of her own, Waverly. But history has a way of repeating itself, especially when wounds from the past haven't healed, and dangerous cycles haven't been broken. Waverly might have what it takes to be a Deviser one day, but that's far from the only question left to answer.

Summary
In near future America, after the government discovers a human trafficking ring that considers itself a kinky secret society, the Lead Deviser offers four of the society's key members a unique bargain: spend a few months in Contrivance Headquarters doing some platonic experiential power dynamic education with her, in exchange for all related charges and threats being dropped, or face Contrivance—the Devisers' annual, televised death game—along with many of their friends. It's an easy choice, but there's still a lot to face when two worlds of secrets, power, pain, and love collide. They might just have more in common than they think.
Crossover AU set about a year after I'll Give You Book 3 and in the middle of Contrivance Book 1 (Chapters 8-31), in a world where those timelines have always aligned, featuring all major characters from both series and set primarily within Contrivance Headquarters.
